Apple Cider Vinegar and Baking Soda

Oh my goodness, this WORKS. Woke up pre dawn with a nasty UTI. Constant urgent need to pee. Very painful and uncomfortable urination with blood in my urine. By the morning I was thinking cancel yoga and ‘there goes Christmas' as no drs open, no script for antibiotics. Went to Earth clinic, found this.

I mixed 2-3 tablespoons ACV + 1/2 teaspoon Bicarbonate in a large glass of water. Tastes fine, down the hatch in one go.

20 minutes later, symptoms COMPLETLEY GONE. Miraculous. Went to yoga, no problems. Looking forward to Christmas 🤶

I get this quite regularly, so glad to have this cure as I prefer to avoid antibiotics. Thank you again EC. 💕

UTI infection, March 2023...Well this may be anecdotal evidence from a 70-year-old male but I had a UTI infection, which caused a lot of standing-on-your-tip-toes pain during voiding, and many nightly trips to the bathroom with little to show for it, but the urge was there, I ended up light headed with foggy brain function and with what can only be described as kicked in the balls swollen testicles, I went t to outpatients, they put me on intravenous anti-biotics I did this for 3 days, went home with an anti-biotic prescription for another 10 days, what seemed to be working stopped as soon as the meds were gone, then back to the hospital for another round of antibiotic intravenously, and still, it came back.

Then I thought I remembered from earth-clinic there was a treatment for an acidic body, I tried it again... I used1 decent-sized squeezed lime/lemon juice, 3/4 tsp of baking soda added in small increments (the fizzing never stops), and 1 tablespoon of ACV, mixed in distilled water, within 4 days the results were amazing this may be as I say anecdotal but if it walks like a duck, sounds like a duck, empirical data is much more than what scientist like to claim as not pure science, this worked for me and it worked damn well just throwing this out there...

Recent UTI affliction had me in a lil discomfort and a lot of annoyance, mostly confined to the proximity of the toilet. I made plantain tea but only had enough leaves for one cup, my prior experience showed requirement (and great results) from 3 cups. Took some vitamin c, Olive leaf, and grapefruit seed extract, large dose of LI but when I found blood in urine I really had to act.

Recently reminded of the benefits of baking soda, I knew raising the alkalinity of my body would be beneficial and immediately consumed a tsp with glass water. About an hour later I took another tsp, this time with 'medicinal' kombucha (kombucha second fermented with parsley, lemon buds and rosehips) instead of acv, purely because I have more kombucha because I make it, and good tsp or two of coconut oil.

I did this mix twice more that evening, taking the baking soda and water to bed with me so when I got up through the night I could take it. By bedtime I had had much improvement but in the morning everything was back to normal. Relief!!

A precaution I had read regarding UTI/bladder infection was if you didn't treat it long enough it would reach the kidneys and cause more problems. At the same time, baking soda is recommended for improving kidney function so I didn't really see a problem. Have continued to take two doses daily of the baking soda for a total of three days. I am now recommitted to the use of baking soda and used it on my son's chalazion which was soothing while acting as a poultice. If I had uti again I would go for the plantain, the results were almost immediate, but if unavailable because of travel, etc, my second choice with absolute confidence would definitely be the baking soda. Best to all.

Olive Leaf, Activated Charcoal

I have now successfully cured my UTI and kidney infections multiple times with olive leaf extract. I thankfully came across this life-saving remedy after frantically searching for alternatives to antibiotics after several trips to the hospital for my chronic and severe UTIs.

I take 3-4 capsules of olive leaf extract (standardized Olive Leaf 250 mg with 20% oleuropein) with each meal then take 2 capsules of activated charcoal 2 hours after and 2 hours before my next meal. I alternate these steps 3 times per day until all symptoms are gone. I then decrease to 2 capsules of Olive Leaf with each meal for 2 more days without the charcoal. (Not sure if this is necessary but Olive Leaf is safe so it can't hurt).

This week I received proof of how well this works: I started experiencing UTI symptoms and took a home UTI test that came back positive for leukocytes. I immediately began my Olive Leaf & Activated Charcoal protocol. Only two doses in, I had a urinalysis and blood work done and there was no sign of infection, bacteria or an elevated white blood cell count. WOW! I know it works well but was surprised because I was still experiencing some symptoms. Amazing!

Pink Himalayan Salt

I was desperate for something to cure an aggressive uti that had been leaving and coming back for 2 weeks. Garlic worked wonders on almost diminishing the infection but it kept lingering..The last thing I decided to try before giving into antibiotics worked!

Sipped 1/2 tsp of pink Himalayan salt in a glass of water. And of course drank multiple glasses of water afterwards. Literally almost IMMEDIATE results. The pain disappeared and within a few hours I felt normal again. I did consume another 1/2 tsp in water before bed just to make sure it didn't come back and it didnt!!! Just WOW. I'm going to incorporate this into my life on occasion to make sure another uti never has a chance.

Sea Salt

I had my first bladder infection in years and it was miserable! There was no way I would go to a doctor or take antibiotics so as usual whenever I have a health issue my first stop is Earth clinic! I knew some of the things to try, like the ever reliable ACV and D-mannose, but also learned about Uva Ursi. I faithfully took all these and they did provide a lot of relief from the symptoms but nothing was completely curing it. As the week dragged on I thought there must be something wrong with me since I wasn't able to get it to stop and so many had written in that ACV cured them in just a few days.

So I decided to give Ted's remedy of drinking sea salt in water - Thank you Ted! After just one glass it was cured and I waiting several weeks to write this just to make sure it was gone. While all the other remedies did help and I would definitely recommend them for relief, the sea salt water ultimately was the cure. If you're reading this you are probably feeling completely miserable so give it a try, it can't hurt!

Thanks to God for allowing me to find this site and the posts about lemons and UTI.

Today, in June 2021, I had tested negative on 2 different stick tests for UTI at 2 different doctor's offices. Shortly after my last visit, my bladder went into full 'attack' and was in relentless burning pain. I was desperate and took an AZO max strength. It gave some relief, but definitely not enough as I ended up in so much pain that I strongly contemplating going to the ER. I was searching the Internet for help. I saw this site had posts about lemons and uti. I read the reviews that said how they were in pain, or had bladder infections, or similar and that they used lemons and water, cold or hot, and thought I'd try it, too, since they said they felt virtually immediate relief. I prayed about it and told God that I would write a post if it helped me, too, so that hopefully my post could help someone, too!

So far, so good. I had Lakewood, organic lemon juice concentrate - no sugar, no extra anything - good stuff, nothing but pure lemon juice (I didn't have any actual lemons, but it's the same.) I took about 3 tablespoons of the liquid with about 10 ounces of water. I've made sure to go eliminate often and not hold it while doing this. It's been about 2 hours. I'm not 100% yet, but I'm definitely not feeling like my bladder is on fire any longer. I'm going to continue sipping/drinking it for the next few hours. I definitely recommend trying this!! I'll be in prayer that Jesus continues to heal me. I'll pray for others who read this and try it, too! May the God of enduring mercy bless you.

Water

I have gotten bladder infections for years, and doctors haven't been able to figure out why. I was taking antibiotics so regularly that I became allergic to them and ended up in the ER, blue, and struggling to breathe. Now I'm pretty much screwed if I ever get severely sick, and although the Drs are more than happy to experiment with very targeted antibiotics I might not be allergic to, I'm not so happy to try that. Especially after they told me I'd have to attempt it in a hospital setting only. So my search for alternatives began.

At this point I'm almost 40 years old. I've dealt with this for over 20 years, getting multiple infections per year. I've tried all sorts of teas, several Native American cures, I've done the ACV, and then the baking soda, but I truly hate the taste of both. Turns out if I'm persistent enough there are quite a few natural cures that EVENTUALLY work. But they take forever. As in...a week or two. Or three. That's a long time when you're running to the bathroom dozens of times a day! In talking with a Chinese herbalist about a year ago, it was recommended to me to quadruple my intake of water during a bladder infection, and that alone would be enough. The liquids flow through your bladder and urinary tract often enough so that your body can then handle the many fewer bacteria all by itself. I wasn't thrilled to hear this...I just wanted to buy some magic herb that would fix it.

Needless to say, I was VERY skeptical. (And sorta ticked I wasn't just sold a herb of some sort...what can I say? I've grown up with the American medical system and we like our convenience.) But it beat the ACV that I hate, right? So I tried it and now I won't use anything else. I'll be honest. I don't love running to the bathroom more than I already do during an infection, with the additional water intake. But it's not that much more inconvenient, since I'm already up every half hour or so when I've got an infection. And wouldn't you know it - it DOES work!! And it's next to free and doesn't taste horrid! You can't even imagine my surprise at this after trying so many other things over the years. And safe for children, but be careful with how much water you make little ones drink..they can't handle adult doses.

I found that drinking as much water as possible (more than his recommended 4x more) helped quicker. I drink a bottle of water per hour (16.9fl oz) until symptoms subside, then I usually do an additional couple hours just to be safe. I just set an hourly timer. If it goes off and I haven't finished my bottle, I finish it right then and I start a new one and a new timer. Repeat, until my body is better. It is so simple and so effective, and SAFE.

And while yes, too much water can kill you; healthy kidneys can handle a LITER of liquid an hour, so don't overdo it but you can do a lot and still be quite safe. You can slam the water or you can sip it. Doesn't matter. What matters is having it running through the plumbing as much as possible, so for me sipping it is more comfortable. You do what works for you. And you are NOT trying to hold all the water in. You don't need your bladder to be full and uncomfortable! When you feel you need to go to the bathroom, then go. You need to flush all that bacteria out so let the water do it's thing. Every sip you take you're making yourself better. Every time you pee, you're making yourself better. That Chinese herbalist was wiser than I gave him credit for, and our bodies are really rather awesome when you think about it.

VERY IMPORTANT: don't drink anything but water, and NO sugar. Which means no lemon water, either. You want nothing in the water that those little bacteria evil geniuses can survive off of. Try not to take in any sugar in your diet, either, so skip dessert and limit breads until you're better. No intercourse because that will make it worse, too. Just baby yourself for a day or two, drink water, eat lots of veggies. I even skip most fruits, too, because that's so easily converted to sugar. Thankfully I've got it down to just a day (or under) of having to do this now, so it never seems to be the big deal it was before.

How long until you're cured will depend. If you catch things quickly, I've had it all over with and GONE in under 4 hours...and that's including my additional 2 hrs of drinking I do after the spasms subside and I stop having the urge to pee every 5 minutes. Folks, the antibiotics I used to get for these didn't even work that fast! When I procrastinate sometimes it takes a full day before I'm cured. (And let's be honest here. I really don't like drinking water every hour either, so sometimes I'm human and put it off. I know I shouldn't. Sigh. But if you're quick about it you can be done with the darn ordeal! )

Now if you have an infection that's already been going on for awhile I'm not entirely sure this would work for you, because you'd have more bacteria built up in your system. I think it'd still work but may take longer than a few hours.

It's really worth a shot, has zero side effects, and should at least help serve as a stop-gap until you can find something else that works for you. You are literally flushing out the bad bacteria with every drink. Plus you won't gag from the taste. ;) Cheers!

I suffer from UTIs virtually every time I have sex. I just started dating someone new, so that has resulted in my getting a UTI about once a week for a few weeks now. In the past I tried taking D-Mannose and drinking unsweetened cranberry juice but that never helped. I used to take baking soda just to ease the burning sensation but of course that wasn't a cure either. A few weeks ago I went through an emotionally stressful time, during which I also developed a UTI that spread to my left kidney and I had to go to the ER and take a round of antibiotics, which I never want to resort to.

I had read about uva ursi in the past but there was never much solid feedback out it so I disregarded it for a long time. After the kidney episode, I was even more desperate to find an herbal remedy since it seems this issue is not going away for me. So I decided to give uva ursi a try.

I purchased two ounces of the dried leaves at my local health food store. I went home and weighed out 1 ounce on my herb scale and put it into a quart sized mason jar. Then I poured boiling water over the leaves and filled the jar to the top. I let it steep for twenty minutes. Then I strained out 1 cup of the infusion and drank it down.

PRAISE UVA URSI! It took away the burning sensation it just over an hour! I couldn't believe it! I mean I really couldn't believe it, it was just too good to be true. I continued to drink the rest of the quart of infusion over the rest of the day and the next day. I was so happy that when I got another UTI I was worried it wouldn't work the same as it did the first time. BUT IT DID! I have now gotten three UTIs in the past three weeks or so and have used uva ursi in the same way each time and gotten the sams results. The burning sensation is completely eliminated in an hour or so. I have only had to drink the 1 quart of infusion over a two day period each time and by then the UTI is resolved.

I encourage you to try uva ursi infusion if you suffer from recurrent UTIs. I know there are some warnings out there about prolonged use being harmful to the liver but I only have to take it for about two days to get relief. Truthfully, I only have to drink 1 cup to get relief, but I drink a whole quart over a two day period to ensure full recovery.

Borax

While I am a pro-advocate of ACV, it was not a protocol that worked for me for UTIs or bladder infections.

Having had too many UTIs to even count in the last 40 years, I researched long and hard to find something to prevent them rather than just treating them. Knowing that use of antibiotics caused me to have chronic candida issues, several years ago I began using Ted's borax protocol to eradicate the candida. The positive side effect that I have had is I have not had a UTI in 6 years. I have not had a recurrence of the kidney stone issue that I once had. (Once was more than enough).

I used the woman's dosage of 1/8 teaspoon in a liter (quart) of water, sipped throughout the day. I did 4 days on, 3 days off. I did this for several months. Then reduced it to every other month for several months. I now use the protocol several times a year, for a week or so, particularly before during and and after traveling as I tend to have issues with water in other parts of the country and the world. I take a small container of borax with me while traveling and just add a small pinch to water that I drink.

If I get even a small inkling that a UTI may be starting, I start drinking borax water, right away. And within the hour it disappears. In such cases I usually add a pinch to every glass of water throughout that day. It has always taken care of it.

No UTIs in 6 years, no antibiotics in 6 years. No craving sugar or starches either.

Hope this may,

Bj

I'm a 67 year old male who had ignored a urinary tract discomfort until it woke me up at 2:30 with acute pain. I read about the apple cider vinegar and baking soda cure, and went for it with 2 Tbs. of vinegar and the touch of baking soda. Back in bed it felt as if my whole body were being alkalized. After continuing with the treatment for 3 days, all the symptoms have gone, and I am grateful to this site for it's simple, effective wisdom.

Acidophilus

Acidophilus is the ONLY thing that works to PREVENT and treat UTI's. Ever since I gave birth to my daughter I get a bladder infection EVERYTIME I have sex, it was horrible. To top it off, I dont have insurance, and it would usually take more than one round of antibiotics to clear one up.

One winter, I was on my 4th round of antibiotics when I got on earthclinic to try to find an alternative cure. I tried ACV, EVCO, baking soda, sea salt, Olive leaf extract, and Oregano oil. None if it worked. It eased the pain, but did not clear things up for me. I also took Uva Ursi, and D-Mannose. The infection lingered. I still had painful pee, and sex! I drank ACV by the bottle, it was disgusting, but I was desperate!! I drank that and took coconut oil like it was my job.

Because, I am also prone to yeast infections, I tried several different kinds of Acidophilus, and I noticed a real improvement, but what cured me was an expensive brand specially formulated for women(can say names) with several different strands of acidophilus. There is a website, you guys can look it up. It was created and formulated over clinically trials, and 10 years of research and study, its great. It is expensive but SOOOOO WORTH IT! Its about $30 for 60 caplets. A month supply. I order it every month or every other month, its great. To prevent UTI's all you need is one pill a day. To treat a UTI, you will need 2 or more pills a day, and it may take up to a week to clear it out along with alot of water. These pills saved my life guys. Also, massive amounts of Goldenseal herb and Echinacea also helped me, but it was a pain! Who wants to take a dozen caps a day, Boring!!!

Baking Soda

I want to tell you of a cure that helped me once. In 1986 I had a bladder infection. I got them often and it would always cost me a hundred dollars to get rid of it. Fifty for the office call and fifty for the medicine that turned my urine red. My symptons were an intense feeling that I needed to urinate, but I could not. I would have intense pain and cold chills. Well I got it one day, and I didn't have the money to go to the doctor. I prayed and I heard a man's voice inside my head say: "Go in the kitchen and pour yourself nine ounces of pure water, put one level tablespoon of baking soda in it, stir and drink it down." Well, I had never in my life heard of doing that, but I obeyed the voice and did it. And pretty soon I could urinate without pain, and the water came out very soft! I only had to do that one more time and to this day I have not had another bladder infection! That's the only time that GOD spoke to me so clear! (Don't try the baking soda if you just had a bowl of chili as it might cause a reaction).

Frankincense

I recognized the beginnings of a UTI and started drinking ACV and more water, but when I started rubbing a couple of drops of Frankincense Essential Oil on my lower abdomen did I see results. I saw results within one day. I continued to rub several drops on my lower abdomen for a week and haven't had anymore symtoms of UTI. I am now two weeks past the original symptoms of UTI and haven't had any more more problems. I have recently tried to employ essential oils to take control of my health and am happy with the results.

Remedies for UTI on the go - no pun intended. :)

This week I had to travel 800 miles by car on Monday with some of my family. I was feeling fine when we left but started feeling poorly within the first hour. I had stomach cramps and diarrhea, which I at first thought was from taking too much magnesium the night before. But the cramping and diarrhea did not stop and I felt worse and worse. I was not driving, at least. As the day wore on I realized I had a fever. The pain continued to get worse though the diarrhea ceased. However, I realized that I had bladder pain when I emptied my bladder. I was starting to suspect bladder infection, though the diarrhea really threw me.

Turns out that bladder spasms (I am pretty sure that was the actual cramping I was experiencing) can cause diarrhea. We stopped at a Stuff Mart as I couldn't find any type of health food store. I was thrilled to be able to find the following things that I had decided I would use in lieu of my usual remedies for a uti (I usually use plantain tea and frankincense essential oil.) I included turmeric because I wasn't positive it was not some sort of intestinal infection, though in the end, I don't think it was. Turmeric is anti-infective anyway.)

  • 100% cranberry juice ( to fight UTI)
  • 100% concord grape juice (to cut the cranberry juice)
  • Raw and organic apple cider vinegar (for acetic acid to fight uti)
  • Raw turmeric powder (for infection)
  • Charcoal tablets (for diarrhea and infection)
  • Chamomile tea (antispasmodic)
  • Black tea (astringent)
  • Raw honey (antibacterial sweetener for tea)

I also bought plastic cups, straws, and a mug.

I usually bring tons of remedies on a trip. This time I had brought nearly nothing since I usually carried it all around for naught, and I was going to be flying home and didn't want to have to deal with extra baggage.

Before leaving the parking lot, after buying my remedies, I put the following in a plastic cup:

  • 2-3 T. raw apple cider vinegar
  • ½ cup cranberry juice
  • ¾ cup grape juice

And drank it as we drove on to our hotel.

The next day I spent in the hotel in bed. I tried to take a remedy every 2 hours.

I alternated between the vinegar/grape/cranberry drink and ½ cup milk kefir with about ¾ t. turmeric. (Not bad, actually.)

I also had mugs of chamomile or black tea with honey.

At night, when I woke up I would take charcoal tablets.

I realized I had an essential oil blend with me for my joints that had frankincense and juniperberry in it, along with several other oils, so I massaged that into my abdomen many times a day.

The second day I no longer had fever and the third day I was able to leave my hotel room though I continued with the remedies.

I was feeling a good bit better though I still had bladder pain unless I didn't move. I took a few doses of Tylenol over those days for pain.

By Thursday I was about 90% better and able to travel by plane.

All week I had only consumed my remedies, a couple of apples and some gingersnaps. I had no appetite at all and didn't really want to get my digestive system moving much while I was in the airport or on a plane.

It has been 6 days now and I feel completely myself.

I do not know how I went from not noticing symptoms to being so sick I was considering going to the hospital, but I did.

One thing I was pleased about was how pretty simple remedies and ones that can be found nearly anywhere completely eliminated the most painful uti I have ever experienced. I even was able to restock my charcoal supply without going to a health food store.

Apple Cider Vinegar and Baking Soda

In reply to Ann (Vernon, B.c.),

Some pathogens involved in UTI's can survive in alkaline environments and some can survive in an acidic environment. Baking soda is effective for some UTI's, but not all. The majority of UTI's are E. coli based and in those cases D Mannose, an active component of cranberry juice can be effective by binding to the E. coli bacteria and allowing it to pass through and out of the urinary tract before it has a chance to attach itself in the urinary tract/bladder and create problems. This is why cranberry juice is often recommended for UTI's, but the juice has a significant amount of sugar that may be counterproductive for some UTI's or other health conditions, hence the use of d-mannose which comes in a concentrated powder form that is usually mixed with water.

Salt or sea salt can also be effective for some UTI's. The EC section on that subject covers a lot of good ones and is worth reviewing.
