Apple Cider Vinegar

I was told by my doctor that my cholesterol was high (240). He put me on medication (lipitor.) I tried the medication for a couple of weeks but began to feel pain in my muscles, it felt like getting acupuncture, like if someone was inserting needles into my muscles. I called the doctor right away and he told me to stop taking the medication, he told me to try to diet and exercise. I did a little research and found info on apple cider vinegar . I also bought flax seed oil, fish oil, ester "C"and garlic supplements @ a local health food store i tried all of this for a couple of months along with exercise such as riding my bike. I recently did another blood test and found out from my doctor that my cholesterol was back to normal ranges! i was also suffering from acid reflux, which is also gone. I used to get pain in my chest which was from the acid reflux I used to think I was having a heart attack but it was the acid reflux which is also gone. the apple cider vinegar sure does work.

Freshly ground Flax Seed. Buy the Flax Seeds whole and organic. Grind them just before using... a few tablespoons per day on your food, salads, etc or just grind and eat them alone. Never substitute with pre-ground or the oil... they are not as effective at lowering cholesterol. Extra vitamin C helps too.

Many people with high cholesterol have tried this drink with much success.

Recipe:

1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar

Mix together and take 2 ounces before your largest meal everyday; only 2 ounces is needed for results.

Hello Art, and thanks so much your reply. I'm a bit shy of Soy Lecithin, as I heard that Sunflower Lecithin is the best, but also, I can't remember what it was that worried me about the Soy. I don't eat anything, or drink Soy so again, a bit shy of that. It may just have been something I read. I hope no one faints, but I do want to say that I believe, or am at least pretty secure with the info on high cholesterol not being dangerous, and that it's the Trigs divided by HDL that is the number to watch, mine is 3.0 right now, latest Lipids, but the total cholesterol is 511.

I want to bring that number down and my trigs were also lower in past tests and I was running at 300 plus with TC. I'm a bit afraid a doctor will dump me from his patient list if I don't take something to lower my C. I'm going to also reply to the Melatonin thread as I don't want to change the subject of this thread, but I have bad insomnia some nights, especially if I don't get any exercise during the day.

Thank you again, Denise!!

If soy lecithin granules is not to your liking for lowering cholesterol, another option is Fenugreek.

Red Yeast Rice
Posted by Alan M. (Atlanta, Ga.) on 10/29/2022

Red yeast rice antidote needed

Have always had good numbers on almost all health related things. Played 4 sports and when I couldn't anymore due to an injury, I took up walking some years ago. Now at 69, still walking 4-5 miles every day, I find myself with high cholesterol and triglycerides. Most of that is genetic, but I didn't expect it as I thought I could get around it by walking.

Tried red yeast rice about 2 weeks ago and developed extreme pain in my left thigh. Of course I have stopped taking it, but in the meantime I am almost unable to sleep because of the pain, going on about 5 days now.

Once I get moving the pain fades into the background and it seems to occur when I am laying down. I guess I'll go back to ACV which fixed my acid reflux a few years ago. Does anyone have an antidote to Red Yeast Rice?

That sounds awesome! How did you take it? Spread out through the day? With and without food? What are the initials of the brand you use? I've taken it before but didn't have your results. Probably didn't take large enough dosage, or perhaps not a good brand.

Thank you so much for sharing Brooklyn Baby

I would add Vitamin K2 to his regimen. It was researched a few years ago.. it is the mineral mover of the body...Moving excess minerals from arteries and into the bones. Study showed...To get enough one would need to eat 30# of broccoli per day. It is sometimes packaged with D. Less than 10$ for 3 months supply..

Great info! Mama, I'm curious to know what you think - I have high cholesterol (runs in the family but grand/parents have lived to 87-101) and blood sugar. After heart palps, doc recommended calcium test but noticed your husband was concerned about the radiation. I had a few c-scans & mri for a surgery last year, and another due this month. Not sure more radiation from the calcium test would be wise (mammogram also due). Being already thin, removing meat and eggs will take me down to 100# or less... but don't want statins or a heart attack. Thanks!

I just buy a bottle of it from Vitacost and take one pill a day so I don't get sinus infections. In the beginning I tried drinking the tea, many years ago, that stuff was horrible there's no way I could keep drinking it. Back in the 90s I got the Tea form from GNC stores.

Dietary Changes

★★☆☆☆

I'm on day 3 of a bone broth fast and had my work wellness check today. My cholesterol was thru the roof! I have kept track of my numbers for over 5 years and never had it anywhere close to this high. My theory is that my body is using stored fat for energy and so more fat was circulating in my bloodstream. Does this make sense? I already take 1000 mg niacin (with the flush) twice a day as well as 1 tbs Apple Cider Vinegar twice a day. I cannot take red rice yeast, as it's so close to a statin that I get pain from it. I'm doing the bone broth fast for 4 days, then plan to add homemade dairy kefir to the broth for another 4 days in an attempt to fix my ibs. I now have a referral from work to see the dr about high cholesterol and this makes me just sick. I don't want to be on medicines but, as an at-will employee, they can get rid of me for this if I don't comply with the dr's suggestions. BTW, I've lost 30 pounds in the past year and only have 15 to go to reach my goal, so I can do what it takes. I've worked so hard at diet and exercise and now this! How depressing.

J: Lots of good on-line health-food stores will pop up on any search-bar, so you can find all the items in one place, at a good price, and maybe free shipping.

Vit-C w/ Rose Hips 1 or 2 grms per day (outside meals) and Lysine 1 grm day (with meal). Grapeseed Extract 50-100mg per day or maybe less if incorporate also other antioxidants like Selenium + Vit-E (broad spectrum) + CoQ10. The Sel, E, CoQ10 combo is very important at reducing the bad side effects of statin meds.

500 or 1000mg Methionine per day and must purchase & take B-12/Folic Acid separately. Non-gmo Sun Lecithin is best if can find in triple strength. Lecithin is a natural form of Choline so you can take a supplement of Choline/Inositol, although the Methionine will convert to choline so it's an issue of options.

Also, and must back up a few steps and consider a Gallbladder Cleanse. Cholesterol Gallstones cause Fatty Liver cause chronic high cholesterol. Lots of info here on E.C.

Do these suggestion and slowly tapper off the toxic meds and get health back.

Per advice on EC, I have reduced my added sugar to practically nil. I don't eat food other than what I prepare, so that base is covered. I have started taking green tea extract + lemon oil + lysine in addition to my Apple Cider Vinegar and lecithin twice daily. I eat mainly vegetables w/ no added fats. Fats I do eat are coconut oil and maybe some olive oil (infrequently). I have been waiting to start the niacin till the weekend, in case I have unexpected side effects of these things. Will start w/ 50 mg for several days and work my way up (it lowers my bp too much and I faint if it's too high a dose). I lift weights several times/week, do qi gong daily and walk 2 mi/day. Anything else I should do? I want to get my cholesterol and triglyceride numbers in a good range by my next test mid-January. I don't have far to go, but want to do all I can (esp w/ holidays coming up, will be eating foods I don't usually eat, prepared by others so out of my control somewhat). Thanks.

Cholesterol is not an enemy. Inflamation is. Google about PLAC test which is a new test for inflamation doctors know nothing about. Get tested via privatemdlab (all paperwork done online), it is under $100, they also offer monthly coupons. No need for a doctors requisition (except few states). I would also recommend you know your calcium serum and ferritin serum numbers by heart. It should be below 10.2 for calcium and 40-60 for ferritin. Anything above these numbers MUST be investigated. Remember, doctors go by lab.ranges, not functional ranges.Do not listen to doctors about ferritin normal ranges and do not wait and see if your calcium is above 10.1, have PTH blood test done. So cholesterol should be the last of your worries if calculated ratios are normal (as I recommended already)

The article is dated 2006, and a lot changed since. The cause of heart disease is inflammation, not cholesterol. Cholesterol is like firefighters, inflammation is a fire. Possibly the supplements regime the article proposes reduced inflammation and as a consequence the liver sends less firefighters to fight diminished fire.

I was able to get my cholesterol down from 7.6 to 5.7 (still working on it!! ) by having porridge with oatbran added in the monrings, and taking niacin, a B vitamin that helps the liver from absorbing too much cholesterol. (Also a supplement - all natural - called Zero Chol) .. and ACV as well - and I also avoided surgery for nasal polyps by using colloidal silver, and acv. Brilliant!

Niacin
Posted by Bill (San Fernando, Philippines) on 08/27/2014

Some more information on Niacin. it's true that people will have differing flush reactions when taking higher dose niacin, but there are several other options open to you.

First, you can just try taking higher dose niacin at mealtimes.Taking it with food greatly lessens the flush effect because of slower absorption into the body with the food.

Secondly, you can take an aspirin 20 mins before you take the niacin. You will have very little, if any, flushing effects using this method.

Thirdly, you can supplement the no-flush niacin or inositol hexanicotinate which is the slow release niacin form that has no flushing effects at all. With this method you can take up to 1500 mgs twice a day with no side-effects.

Niacin
Posted by Bebe (In) on 03/29/2016

My husband's doctor told him to start out with 100 mg everyday for the first two weeks then up the dose, to another 100 mg in another two weeks til you get up to the 500 mg dose level, then leave it at the 500 mg dose every day once a day, any more than that would affect your kidneys.

Niacin
Posted by Donna (Florida) on 11/02/2021

Go slowly. Start with 100 mg a day and then work up. High dose too quickly can make you faint but isn't dangerous, just uncomfortable.

My doc has me on niacinamide 1000mg in am, then 3 250mg doses separated thru out the day. It lowers cholesterol and is a liver/body detox. Flushing happens but not all the time anymore. Research Dr. Hoffer, he wrote some very informative papers on niacin and vit C.

I take the ACV with 100% Grape juice. This is also supposed to be good for high Cholesterol. In March 2013 my Cholesterol was 249. On May 6, 2013 I had a heart attack (only 56 yrs. old). Of course they put me on statins. I could not tolerate them at all. Legs felt like knives being stabbed in them, migraine headache and very weak, no energy. I immediately went to EC website and found that ACV (2X a day), Niacin(1X a day), Red rice yeast (1200mg 2X a day), Ginkgo (1 X a day), Vit D3 (1X a day) and B-12 (1X a day). I take these supplements throughout the day. My Cholesterol has dropped all the way to 186!!!!!!!

Many people come to earth clinic after they realize the side effects from Statin drugs. Still the lies about cholesterol and heart disease are still lodged deeply in their minds. If they take the time to research heart disease, they will realize that addressing the cholesterol does not address heart disease. They will also realize that they wasted their time and neglected more important things regarding heart disease and health. They will also realize that you can eat as much cholesterol as you want and still have a healthy heart.

I would go to a good chiropractor to look at stiff neck problem. Stiff neck (along with headache) is one of the symptoms of chronic meningitis. Usually stiff neck due to cold from open window will go away.

There are all sorts of things for neuropathy but I would consider experimenting with seanol given that it addresses many other things besides the neuropathy. Maybe you luck out and it addresses other things. It is a more powerful and long lasting antioxidant than astaxanthin also but I would keep taking the astaxanthin also.

Statins
Posted by Timh (Ky, Usa) on 11/19/2013 2042 posts

Never take a statin without also taking CoQ10. Never take CoQ10 without also taking Selenium and Vit-E as these work best together. Muscle stiffness and soreness is a result of the statin depleting what little CoQ10 the body makes, and muscle wasting is the results. From personal experience, the best form of CoQ10 is combined w/ Glutathione. To help rebuild muscle eat quality meat or supplement Branch Chain Amino Acids (BCAA) and/or Creatine.

Dr Sinatra recommends splitting the statin tabs in half and in some cases quartered so as to reduce the bad side effects, while modifying the diet and supplementation.

Statins
Posted by Timh (Ky, Usa) on 11/20/2013 2042 posts

Elaine: Try Glutathione/CoQ10 combination for best results which should help w/ energy but for the ldl do take the red yeast rice twice daily plus a flush free niacin like niacinamide or inositol hexaniacinate 1 500mg 2x day. For the muscle loss take BCAA's and or Creatine (C also enhances muscle energy production very effectively).

Also, I have had very good results w/ L-Methionine 500 or 1000mg daily for fat burning. DMG works very well w/ Methionine for energy production and fat burning plus boosted detoxification.

You may also want to consider supplementing Coconut oil to enhance metabolism; lots of good reports on c.o. here. A good source of natural Iodine like Kelp will help metabolism by enhancing thyroid function. L-Tyrosine 500 mg daily will also boost thyroid and energy production. High ldl is almost always a side effect of low thyroid.

Cholesterol Testing
Posted by Mike 62 (Denver, Colorado) on 11/01/2013

Beth: Cells synthesize simple molecules in a 37 step process to make cholestrol. Total body content for your weight is 30g. Most ingested cholestrol is esterfied and poorly absorbed. Cholestrol intake in food has little, if any, effect on cholestrol levels. Cholestrol is required to maintain membranes, cell signaling, and provide insulation for more efficient conduction of impulses. Elevated levels of ldl, idl, and vldl are regarded as atherogenic. Resistan, a protein secreted by fat tissue, has been shown to increase production of these in liver cells, as do stress hormones. 85% of the food people eat is burned as fuel in the mitochondria. Good food makes clean energy. Bad food makes toxic by products like stress hormones and bad cholestrol. The best fuel is sugar from raw organic fruits. Fructose, not starch, is nessesary for cholestrol synthesis and the production of ubiquenol. I take the concentrates raw honey, raw organic whole dried cane juice, and raw organic buckwheat flour because they are more convenient and less costly. Nutritionists for world class athletes recommend taking carbs, oils, and proteins together 6 times a day in snacks rather than in 3 large meals. Raw proteins are much better than cooked. The proper ratio by weight is 85% carbs, 10% protein, and 5% oils. The proper ratio of oils is 50% saturated fat, I take coconut oil, 10% omega 3, 15% omega 6, and 25% omega 9.

Hello Prioris,

I really enjoy your informative posts.

You had on on one of my fav subjects...cardio issues and sugar consumption relationship, which you deny is, in fact causative; sugar has nothing to do with cardio (MI) problems you said. You also state that sugar consumption is about the same as around 1900.

What? No. I mean NO. How about an increase per capita from 40 pounds a year to 130 pounds a year.

Great charts and lots of information on per person concumption on "Daily Health Posts, Feb 13, 2013" ... there has been an explosion of sugar consumption especially with the advent of soft drinks.

I started reading about this huge consumption explosion about 35 years ago in the book, Sugar Blues.

And after much of my life eating too much sugar (ice cream at night) and getting me to pre diabetic condition, and seeing my dad die from diabetic complications, this subject is very serious in my analysis of the explosion of diabeties in America. I hope you do not believe that sugar has nothing to do with diabeties.

You correctly note that heart clotting is a recent phenomenon and it is. There is no corrolation you say because sugar intake is the same for the past 100 or so years. You are totally wrong about consumption but corrolation does not prove causation. You are correct about that. My belief is that the refining of grains has depleted our food of its anti clotting effectiveness; esp the loss of natural Vit E.

Loss of Vitamin E said the Doctors Shute and Shute (MD doctors who were brothers from Canada) who wrote extensively on this subject during the '50s is the cause of the increase in cardio problems. So I actually think you are correct in a way...sugar may not be THE causative reason for cardio problem but it may be one of the biggest reasons there is inflamation and oxidation in the veins and arteries because there is not enough E to neutralize the sugar (E acts as an anti oxident.)

And finally, there has been a change in the type of sugar we eat today compared to a hundred years ago; then it was much more raw in nature; more cane was present...fiber whereas today it is pure sugar. And the way sugar today is consumed has 50 percent fructose which impacts the liver much more profoundly than glucose alone. Glucose calories impact at only 1 out of about 27 calories on the pancreas where fructos is the entire caloric impact on the pancreas. This is much more glycemic impact than we would have see 100 years ago.

In other words, sugar has changed in quality as well as quantity.

Nigella Sativa
Posted by Art (Tustin, Ca. USA) on 03/05/2013
★★★★★

A recent human study that tested Nigella Sativa (Black Cumin Seed), an increasingly popular supplement, for its cholesterol lowering effects and had some positive results. They tested three different dosages over a 12 week period. The dosages were one gram per day, two grams per day and three grams per day. The two gram dose proved to be the most effective dose and was able to lower LDL cholesterol ( the bad one) and raise HDL cholesterol ( the good one) while lowering triglycerides! That's pretty impressive and there is a definite need for a supplement capable of doing just this with a good safety profile....... unlike the statins which can have some fairly serious side effects in some people.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3515953/

Another recent human study also using Nigella Sativa, found that it is also capable of lowering high blood pressure. That's quite a combination!

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23436437

Nigella Sativa (NS) is available at most on line vitamin suppliers as well as local health food stores and is reasonably priced as supplements go at the tested dosages in these two studies. NS has shown other potential health benefits and the number of studies are increasing. NS has been used in alternative medicine in other parts of the world for ages. I was able to find NS in 400mg capsules at 60 capsules per bottle for less than $4 online from a popular supplier. To reach the most effective dose in the cholesterol study would require 5 capsules per day or about 35 cents or less per day if my math is correct.

Colloidal lecithin. Find at your local health food store liquid form of lecithin. It digests better. Just a spoonful a day, and it soothes, calms, provides nutrition to nerves. Also keep bananas and cantaloupe or honeydew melon in the diet. If liquid lecithin is hard to swallow alone, stir it into orange juice or similar. Best to you.
