I got diverticulitis after I introduced elk meat into my diet ( elk meat is very lean) while living in Montana one spring 10 yrs ago. That summer went I on a camping trip(to oregon) and took elk jerky, a 5 pound bag of almonds and in the mornings would pick wild blackberries and eat almonds and jerky thru the day, within a week started getting pains and ended up in the ER , ( no help @ ER- gave me maalox).

Desperate for relief I visited a healthfood store in Brookings, OR and the kind store owner, (after asking me what I had been eating) quickly told me that the combination of elk, berries &almonds was causing diverticulitis. She then brought a tall bottle of Aloe Vera juice, some papaya juice & papaya tablets and told me to just start drinking the Aloe and to eat papaya tablets before each meal from now on - was cured within a few days. Free advice that saved me from more useless Dr. appts. and a lifetime of recurring problems.

I was really saddened when I met people who had had sometimes 5 surgeries for diverticulitis in Montana where elk is plentiful after that.... Once again -another example of medical community failing to help with something as simple as Aloe Vera juice & papaya for this awful, painful & sometimes life threatening condition. Even though I would tell people about this simple solution... They opted for believing their Dr.s advice that they needed surgery - after all Dr.s being a gift from God and all, win some, lose some "wisdom never lies" -Homer... Now I always check earthclinic before making a Dr. appt. to see if I can heal myself.

Grapefruit seed extract works miracles when combined with high quality vitamin C.

Usana has an amazing product called proflavanol-C that has both these ingredients. Google usana and read about it. I have been taking 2 per day and it has done wonders for my overall health.

Monica... You're getting GSE (grapefruit seed extract) mixed up with grapeseed oil. Grapeseed oil is for cooking. Grapefruit seed extract can be purchased at any health food store or natural foods market in either capsules or in liquid drop form. The common brand I use is Nutrabiotic.

Hi, I am extremely interested in finding out where can somebody buy the GSE oil? I live in San Diego and I've tried different places. I found the pills but I've been told that the oil is for cooking, so is there a specific place where I can get it, or is it really the cooking oil the one you mention? Also, If I got the pills can I start taking them daily and how many instead of the oil? Please reply, I am desperate trying to help my boyfriend with his diverticulitis problem. Thank you.

Several years ago I had diverticulitis to the extent that I just wanted to die. Somewhere I read about Apple Cider Vinegar and cayenne pepper.

This is the formula I used - 2 tablespoons Apple Cider Vinegar and 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper in 10 oz of water. In two hours I was feeling better. Using this formula for 3 days totally eliminated this problem. I have been using the Apple Cider Vinegar and cp for at least 10 years and it has fixed many other problems. Wishing you well.

GSE has kept my Diverticulitis at bay for 2 years. At the first dull ache, I drink 2oz orange juice mixed with 15 drops of GSE. Stir well as you drink it, because the GSE settles to the bottom instantly. Repeat 2-3 times a day, then decrease the drops in the following days as you improve. If I take one dose daily or every-other-day, using 6 drops with 2 oz orange juice, I never have attacks. This has kept me free of attacks for 2 years now.

Warning About Colon Cleanse

It is more likely that Psyllium & Bentonite clay stired up your current condition of small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) or even Demodex mites (parasites) both of which have been shown to cause Rosacea & Rhinophyma! Taking those 2 herbs WITHOUT combining them with an anti-parasite program or herbal "peristalsis" tonics will agravate diverticulitis in many people. Some people do have an allergy to these herbs but the allergy will subside after taking them. In your case it did not! As you claim they ruined your life? Did you self prescribe or did you consult a trained health professional? A Chinese herbal doctor can help with this problem! Both Rosacea & Rhinophyma are treatable with Diet changes & Chinese herbal medicine!

I found out I have diverticulosis the hard way... when it became a serious case of diverticulitis with a perforated intestine and peritonitis. I had to have a foot of my large intestine removed during emergency surgery and spent a week in the hospital.

Since then I've only had a couple minor bouts with pain, as I'm very careful what I eat now. However, this past week it became a daily problem - both pain and occasional nausea were really dragging me down, making me feel miserable.

I finally checked earthclinic and read the post about grapefruit seed extract. Lucky for me, I have some. I tried the 12 drops / glassful of water and within the first hour my symptoms were diminishing quite noticeably. After four hours they had completely disappeared. I did take one more "dose" six hours after the first one and, so far, I'm feeling great!

Now I know what to take - not sure if I'll do the daily regimen, as the stuff tastes rather unpleasant, and I rarely have any problems - but having it on hand certainly makes me feel better.

Thank you SO much for this info! You've saved me a trip to the doctor and taking antibiotics (which I hate to do).

My elderly mother had an acute case of diverticulitis. From July 2007 to July 2008 she was taken to the emergency room six times. Just around the 5th day of every other month (a two-month frequency) she would get an attack: First starting with a minor discomfort on the lower left side of her abdomen and gradually gaining intensity as the days went by up to the point she couldn't walk or do just about anything. Repeated tests, hospitalization and antibiotics were taking a toll on my mother, who otherwise is an energetic and enthusiastic 75 year-old person. Two meetings with a team of surgeons at her hospital, and the consensus was the removal of her entire colon. My mother though there was no other option. I though otherwise, since I educated myself about the disease and knew there could be other venues. I placed the surgeons on-hold while I experiment with different diets for my mother (none of them worked). I knew that the overgrowth of bad bacteria on her colon was a mayor factor. Now, if I only could kill them all.

Until I found this site. The testimony of "M F" (from Mineral Wells, Texas) was the key. I spent so much time reading about Grapefruit Seed Extract that I became convinced, this was worth a try. To all of you suffering from this condition read this with all your hope because I am not making this up: MY MOTHER STARTED TAKING THIS REMEDY LATE JULY OF 2008 AND AS OF THIS WRITING (MAY 29, 2009) SHE HAS NOT HAD ANY ATTACK (I myself am getting goosebumps as I say this), and she has been the person I'm always accustomed to see: energetic, active and in good humor.

Thanks to MF, thanks to this website, thanks to the Internet, thanks to the Supreme Being I believe in for giving me the opportunity to find this wonderful, natural medicine called Grapefruit Seed Extract. Please feel free to contact me if you need more information. I'm willing to share as much as possible.

About 10 years ago I got diverticulitis and peritonitis and was hospitalized for a week. My doctor told me that I would need an operation on my colon once I got healthier. My friend gave me some homemade noni juice to drink every morning and I took it for the 6 months after my hospital stay. When I went back to the doctor for a 6 month check up and to schedule the surgery, I no longer had any bad spots left on my colon. There was no reason to have surgery. My doctor put up the before and current xrays of my colon and asked me "What the heck did I do to cure myself like that!" I now make it myself and take it every morning.

I hope yu have a few minutes to read thru this. I've tried to keep it brief, but that's just not possible when praising ACV! There are NUMEROUS instances where ACV came to the rescue!!

1) I discovered ACV when my stomach ulcer was SO bad, every breath hurt, smoking just burned my stomach and, after eating, pain was constant. I was drinking liquid antacid straight from the bottle every few minutes.

A vegan friend told me that stuff was WORSE for me than the ulcer. He fixed an 8 oz glass of water with equal parts of ACV and honey (2 Tbs each; more honey if needed). By the time I took the THIRD swallow, I could feel the pain and pressure lessening like bubbles bursting inside. I started making it by the gallon (1/2 Cup ACV, 1/2 Cup honey and fill jug with water). Keep it in the fridge and shake before serving. I drank a glassful 30 minutes after EACH meal. In LESS than a month, I was symptom free and have had no problem since. I still smoke, I eat any/everything I want and no problems. I've fixed it for many, many people with acid reflux, chronic indigestion and diverticulitis. Every one of them was able to get off prescription meds within 3-4 weeks. (There's an additional regimen for curing diverticulitis. I'll send it in another time).

I started reading about ACV and found it balances Ph: if you're too acidic, it makes yu more alkaline and vice-versa....

In the past I've been troubled with Diverticulitis to the point I had to take anitbiotics. This would happen about every 3 to 4 months. I started taking Grapefruit Seed Extract when I'd feel an attack coming on. I would take 12 drops in a glass of water 4 times a day. After about 4 days the pain would subside. Then after several months I would have another attack and do the same. I finally got smart, I take 12 drops (GSE) in a glass of water each and every night with out fail. I am now free from the attacks and when I do feel like an attack is coming on I do the 12 drops (GSE) twice a day and soon go back to just once a day. I hope this helps others that are bothered with this condition, it has made a big difference in my life. I don't like to take antibotics. I have just found this web site and am really interested in reading about all the different cures and remedies. I'm going to try several of those mentioned.

Dietary Changes

I was diagnosed with diverticulosis a number of years ago. I tried a natural product called AMP Molocure which is suppose to be very concentrated and made from Aloe Vera. I followed the directions for an entire year. It was quite expensive and I don't feel that it did much of any good for me. I think the key is to change your eating habits and cleanse your colon. Last year [2006] I used a colon cleansing product available at herbdoc.com and while it seemed to help I still had periods where I would pass blood with bowel movements for 10 days after eating corn or a lot of peanut butter or strawberries, etc. Not giving up, a year later I did a second bowel cleanse and also a liver/gall bladder and kidney cleanse. I switched to a healthier diet which was vegetarian on weekdays and only ate meat on week-ends and then only natural or organic meats with no hormones or antibiotics. I also added oat bran to my diet twice a day and I drink fruit juice with green superfood [spirulina, chorella etc.]with frozen grapes (including the seeds) in a blender every morning. This seems to have worked! For the past 3 months I can eat corn and popcorn & all those other foods that caused me to bleed before with no problems. I feel no need of going for another colonoscopy - I know I'm better but I also know if I go back to eating processed foods and the rest of the typical American diet I can expect the diverticulosis to return. I'll be 61 in February 2008.

I digested Psyllium and Bentonite clay for a colon cleanse. This was to ruin my whole life and caused immediate gastritis and triggered rosacea/rhinophyma. The onset of syptoms were abrum, immediate and extremely severe. I now have blepharitis and meibominaitis as a result. I was very stupid and digesting this product has ruined my whole life. DO NOT TAKE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
