An enlarged prostate, medically known as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), is a common condition affecting men, especially as they age. While medical treatments are available, many are turning to natural remedies for enlarged prostate relief. This article explores various natural strategies that can support prostate health and alleviate BPH symptoms.

What Is Prostatitis?

An inflamed or swollen prostate is known as prostatitis; it is common for the prostate gland to become enlarged as a man ages. The medical term for this condition is benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) or benign prostatic hypertrophy. As cells increase, they form large nodules that can compress the urethra, obstructing the flow of urine and causing pain. The prostate gland doesn't usually cause problems until later in life - it rarely causes symptoms before age 40. However, more than 50% of men in their sixties and as many as 90% in their seventies and eighties have some symptoms of an enlarged prostate.

Prostatitis can also occur due to bacterial infection; it is possible for bacteria carried in the urine to leak into the prostate. While there is no evidence that an enlarged prostate can lead to prostate cancer, an enlarged prostate can overproduce the same proteins used to screen for prostate cancer.

Natural Remedies for an Enlarged Prostate

Apple Cider Vinegar

attention as a home remedy for various conditions, including an enlarged prostate. ACV is believed to help due to its anti-inflammatory properties, which can be beneficial in reducing the symptoms associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). The theory is that the anti-inflammatory effect of ACV could help lessen the swelling of the prostate, thereby alleviating discomfort and improving urinary flow.

In addition to its anti-inflammatory properties, apple cider vinegar is known for its antioxidant effects. These antioxidants can help to combat oxidative stress in the body, which is a factor in many chronic conditions, including prostate issues. Some proponents also believe that the acetic acid in ACV can help detoxify the body and support overall urinary health.

Standard Dosage

A standard recommendation for ACV is 1-2 tablespoons (15-30 ml) per day, mixed in a large glass of water. It's advised to start with a smaller dose and gradually increase it to assess tolerance.

Cayenne

Cayenne pepper, known for its spicy flavor, is also considered beneficial in managing symptoms of an enlarged prostate or benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). The active component in cayenne pepper, capsaicin, is thought to play a critical role in its therapeutic effects. Capsaicin is known for its potent anti-inflammatory properties, which can be particularly beneficial for reducing the inflammation associated with an enlarged prostate. This reduction in inflammation can potentially alleviate symptoms like urinary frequency, urgency, and discomfort.

Furthermore, cayenne pepper is believed to improve blood circulation. Enhanced circulation can aid in efficiently delivering nutrients and oxygen to the prostate gland, possibly promoting better overall prostate health. Additionally, some studies suggest that capsaicin has properties that may help reduce prostate cell proliferation, a key factor in the development of BPH.

Standard Dosage

There is no specific recommended dose for cayenne pepper in the context of BPH. In general culinary use, a pinch to a quarter teaspoon of cayenne pepper powder is commonly used in cooking. As a supplement, following the manufacturer's dosage instructions is essential.

Precautions: Cayenne pepper may cause gastrointestinal irritation in some individuals, especially in high doses. It's also a blood thinner and may interact with blood-thinning medications.

Saw Palmetto

Saw palmetto is one of the most well-known herbs for prostate health. Studies suggest it can help reduce urinary symptoms associated with an enlarged prostate.

Pygeum

Derived from the bark of the African plum tree, pygeum has been used traditionally for urinary health and is gaining popularity for BPH symptom relief.

Stinging Nettle

Often used with other herbs, stinging nettle can help alleviate lower urinary tract symptoms due to BPH.

Lemon Juice and Olive Oil

I didn't understand the problem that I have had for years and was told by my urologist (???) that I had an enlarged prostate. Luckily, I saw the lemon juice/olive oil remedy for kidney stones online and, with little hope, gave it a try resulting in amazing improvement in urinary pain and a very frequent need to urinate within less than a week.

The problem was beginning to impair my life. I couldn't sleep very long and long drives required frequent stops.

I take roughly 2 oz. of fresh lemon juice with a little olive oil twice a day. The formula has definitely changed my life!

Cod Liver Oil, Zinc and Copper

My treatment for enlarged prostrate is a couple of tablespoons of Cod Liver Oil and a zinc and copper tablet. When I first had this problem, the doctor told me I had an enlarged prostrate but did nothing else for me. My PSA was high but said it wasn't cancer.

The research I did led me to using Cod Liver Oil that was rich in vitamin A, and my prostrate shrunk. This worked for a year or so and then stopped working. More research finally led me to understand that it was zinc that moved vitamin A around in the body and with out zinc, vitamin A couldn't be moved. I took zinc with the vitamin A and for a while again it worked, but again after a year or so stopped working again. Back to the books and more research and I found out that if you take zinc by itself it will create a deficiency of copper.

I added copper to the regimen and since then there's been no further problem.

So my prescription is two tablespoons of cod liver oil, a 50 mg zinc tablet or capsule and a two mg copper tablet.

I hope this is of help to you.

Bromelain for Testicular Pain

I have had chronic enduring testicular pain for more than a year and tried loads of natural remedies. Turmeric, ashwagandha, rhodiola, zinc, and daily juicing had no effect on my pain and inflammation. The only thing that helped was prolonged abstinence, but it is not easy to keep up long term or more than 4-5 weeks. Luckily last month, as I was eating dried pineapple fruit, I noticed a clear soothing effect on my pain, so after doing research on pineapple, I ordered bromelain and got incredible relief taking 3 or 4 daily capsules of 500mg bromelain at 2500gdu.

It's important to take bromelain on empty stomach away from meals.

Have taken 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar in glass of hot water for the last 3 mornings upon waking.

I am 74 and have an enlarged prostate. Dr has had me on doxazosin to relax prostate and bladder muscle. That works well but made me weary, weak, sleepy and dropped my blood pressure down to 90/60.Then he had me cut dose back to 1/2 pill (2.5 mg) and added finasteride to shrink prostate by stopping production of dihydrotestosterone. But that hormone is what makes a male horny. While on it I had nil libido, which did not bother my wife, but I hated it. Have stopped taking both for a week now.

Apple cider vinegar last 3 mornings, seems to work for me. Only had one pee upon rising and another at 1100 after drinking tea and decaff coffee. And sleeping from 2200 to 0500. Used to wake up at least once, sometimes twice for a pee.Great now.

On 21 January 2016 I was diagnosed with tubular prostate cancer phase four. My PSA was 901 on 5 February. I got my first Lucrin injection on 9 February and also started with artemether. Now after 11 weeks on 3 May my PSA was 69. I am working hard to reach 0 by the end of June 2016. I had a problem with my stream peeing.

For the past three days I am taking a 500 mg Cayenne pepper capsule three times a day. Really, the difference is amazing. I am pissing a beer bottle stream in a relaxing mood.

No one was more sceptical than me about natural cures, but through desperation I turned to the Internet to try and find help for my prostate issues. I am very grateful to every one who posted about apple cider vinegar because to my amazement it really works. I have had troubles for nearly four years without remedy, and yet within three hours of taking the vinegar (one tablespoon in water) the discomfort I have suffered for so long started to dissipate.

Two days later I feel so much better and I would encourage anyone suffering to give it a try. I have also started taking blackstrap molasses as recomended on another part of this site. I never post on websites but feel it is so important for sufferers to give it a try I had to help spread the word. Best wishes to everyone looking for help.

First off, thank you to earth clinic and all the people that post on here. It is such a great site.

My partner was suffering from enlarged prostate. He was suffering quite a bit, hard to pee and frequently wanting to pee. He was put on a 3 month waiting list to have an operation. He was not sure he could last that long because of the pain of it.

He started taking 10.000 Hu cayenne tablets. Think he took about 6 a day. Within about two days the pain had eased off and he was able to pee properly again. He was amazed and so was I. He cancelled the appointment to be operated on and is now completely fine.

I had been using saw palmetto for the last 7 months. Urine flow was half of what it used to be (less in the morning but "improved" to about 1/2 of what it was when I was younger (now 59).

It seemed to be helping but I wasn't totally satisfied and started looking elsewhere. I found references to cayenne pepper. I read more about supposed "cancer" fighting properties. I'm getting more into "natural" methods and away from pharmaceuticals and thought I would give it a try.

I had my first taste this morning after breakfast: I used 1/2 tsp in half cup of warm water. Chugged it and oooh boy, it was hot. Not burningly so but enough. Without word of a lie, when I peed about 1. 30pm, flow was twice what it usually is. Four hours? Sounds dubious but it's true. All I know is I'm a believer (at this point) and am going to continue this level of cayenne (1/2 tsp in half cup of warm water 3x/day (after each meal).

Take this for what it's worth. Good luck to you :)
