I have noticed a connection between sugar intake on an empty stomach and heart palpitations.

If I reach for a sugary snack to hold me over until meal time I am getting heart palpitations.

I think a piece of cheese or handful of nuts would be better and will try that soon.

Hi Shante from Jackson MS,

if you have not already, replace all your drinks with water, for about a week and see the difference. instead of coffee or tea have a hot cup of water. Water. water, water. When someone ask what you want to drink say "Water please". No caffeine at all. it made a big difference for me after only two days. just water and food and that little change can make a big difference.

You may get a withdrawal headache, but each day it should be lighter.

I think it is the mix of the minerals in Black Strap Molasses. It even has copper. I have been having Heart Palps, too. Last night in desperation, I drank ACV with Baking Soda...best night I have had in a week. Then I got up this morning and had a tablespoon of BSM. Feeling pretty good now! Heart palpitations are just the worst.

Another thing that helps heart palpitations is taurine.... Especially if you are sensitive to Msg and accidentally ingested some. Taurine is an amino acid that really helps get msg out of your system. Just something to look in to. It is an inexpensive supplement. I always keep it on hand for racing, fluttering heart. Good luck!

Kristi from PA,,, I had palpitations back when I was doing the keto diet. I had read on EC about the many benefits of organic unsulphered black strap molasses and started taking 1 tablespoon each morning. After a week or so it occurred to me that my palpitations had completely stopped! I was very surprised because that wasn't why I started the molasses! Good luck, I know how unnerving it can be!

Hi Kristi,

A quick look at your list and I think these have the potential to potentially cause palpitations in some people :

1. L Tyrosine

2. Fish Oil

3. L Theanine

4. Possibly the Mucuna

5. You didn't say how long since you stopped vitamin D3, but if it has been months low vitamin D3 can affect electrolytes so an indirect possibility.

6. NAC

Hi Kristi,

I'm glad you were able to improve the insomnia situation! What did you use for the insomnia, I can't remember the post.

The following study suggests that aside from melatonin's beneficial heart effects it may also help with arrythmia. Not quite the same as palpitations, but in the same area of heart health :

https://www.hindawi.com/journals/omcl/2021/8876792/

Here is a relevant study quote :

' Despite the knowledge on repairing mechanisms in the cardiovascular system, effective antiaging strategies able to reduce the risk of arrhythmias are still missing. Melatonin is a promising therapeutic candidate due to its pleiotropic actions. This indoleamine regulates chronobiology and endocrine physiology. Of relevance, melatonin is an antiaging, antioxidant, antiapoptotic, antiarrhythmic, immunomodulatory, and antiproliferative molecule. This review focuses on the protective effects of melatonin on age-induced cardiac functional and structural alterations, potentially becoming a new fountain of youth for the heart. '

I think the melatonin lotion I wrote about, would be an easy way to get enough and be good for your skin wherever you apply it.

Btw, several of the other supplements you are taking are noted for helping palpitations, but apparently not in your case. Keep us posted on what you find out.

There is a reason potassium supplements are sold at 99mg per tablet. One should never supplements it regularly, let alone more than 99mg pill, but get it from food. Bananas, passion fruit, beets, moringa, etc..

Potassium in blood is tested as a part of electrolytes testing. If one has low potassium he would definitely feel very bad and it is usually addressed in ER, not by increasing potassium supplementation, for it could be extremely dangerous.

There is a reason why potassium is low, finding the reason before attempting manipulate with it is very important.

Wow.....

Firstly, what kind of thyroid tests have you had done? TSH, Free T3, Free T4, Total T3, Total T4 etc. It sounds to me like either a pituitary, thyroid, or adrenal issue. All three of these endocrine organs are homeostatic regulators. They are like your bodies control boxes. All three of them can effect your heart in some way or another. The Free T3 and Free T4 with the TSH are more "accurate" blood tests. If your doctors did the Total T3 and Total T4 they are pretty useless. If you are hyper then just TSH will tell you nothing. Even in hypo situations TSH is pretty useless. TSH or Thyroid Stimulating Hormone does exactly what it says. Your Pituitary sends out TSH when its messenger hormones tell it your T3 and T4 are too low.

Adrenal issues are the same. Most doctors wont even test for them and if they did they wouldn't do the right tests. One way to find out by yourself if it is a possible adrenal issue is to go in a dark room with a flash light and a mirror. Leave the flash light off for about 10 seconds than look into the mirror while shining the light towards your eyes ( not directly at them). If your pupils dilate like they should then your adrenals are telling them to do what they are supposed to. If on the other hand your pupils fluctuate between dilation and open at all or stay wide open then you can be pretty sure your adrenal glands are ill. Another easy test is to sit down and take your blood pressure. Immediately after then take it again while standing. If it drops then your adrenals are probably ill. It should go up if your adrenals are fine.

Pituitary issues are much less common than adrenal and thyroid issues but still possible. Your pituitary can affect so many organs including your adrenals and thyroid that it can be a big problem if it's out of whack.

My other thought is that it can be an electolyte problem that was possibly started by your supplements or maybe by your adrenal glands or kidneys. If your adrenals are ill then your aldosterone level may be low. Aldosterone signals the kidneys to excrete potassium. If serum potassium gets too high then your heart will most definitely be affected. If your kidneys are not excreting the potassium due to being ill then you will get the same situation with your heart. You probably don't need supplemental potassium. If you want to make sure your getting enough then drink an isotonic drink (sodium/potassium/calcium/magnesium) to make sure your taking in the correct balance of electrolytes. Coconut water (some people hate the taste) is isotonic which means it has the same electrolyte balance as your blood. I drink at least two of them a day and honestly feel terrible if I don't so I am an addict now:)

Cardiac Ablation
Posted by Hilary (Va) on 11/21/2017

This is a dangerously uninformed post. Ablation is sometimes the best option for some people. There are several types of ablation therapy - radiofrequency ablation being the least invasive and least likely to cause damage to heart tissue. But, as with any operating room procedure, it is only as effective as the doctor performing the procedure.

I have a mild form of paroxysmal fibrillation which I have been able to control thus far with proper hydration, yoga, potassium and magnesium supplements and cutting back on caffeine. However, I have a nephew who had a severe, debilitating a-fib problem which sent him to the hospital on numerous occasions with chest pain, nausea and weakness. His problem was corrected through ablation almost 30 years ago, and he has never had another recurrence. This procedure was a blessing for him. The post-procedure weakness you mentioned is probably due to the anesthesia in the operating room - not a result of the procedure itself.

I suffered skipping heart beats rapid heart rate, acid reflux and panic attacks for 15 years. Now all that is gone. I found out that Hawthorn will stop the irregular heart beat in minutes. Also found out the cause was poor digestion accompanied by stress. Apparently the intestines have some similar tissues to the heart. I thought perhaps my heart palps were due to food alergies because they seemed to come on strong after a meal. I am taking several enzymes to correct my digestion and the hawthorn. My heart now beats normal all the time in the low 60s at rest. Used to be in the mid to high 90s at rest. Ive not felt this good in years.

Hi Kellie... What can generally cause heart arrythmia and tachycardia problems can be an imbalance of certain electrolytes as well as lack of iodine. Therefore calcium, potassium and magnesium all will have an effect on your heartbeat since these three minerals are so important for the nerves and muscle. Calcium is usually found in excess in our diets, whereas both magnesium and potassium are usually defficient. Magnesium itself is the guvenor or balancer of calcium and potassium minerals within our cells.

Iodine/iodide is also deficient in our diets and is another element that can effect our hearts. I've been finding my own level of iodine -- and for me this has worked out to between 2-4 drops Lugol's per day. But I have taken up to 50 mgs per day to get my iodine levels up quickly. I now take far more(over a 100 times more) on a daily basis than the RDA of 150 micrograms recommended for iodine intake. In the most current independent reasearch on iodine -- The Iodine Project -- they have successfully used between 50 - 100 mgs daily intake of iodine for acute diseases like fibrocystic breast disease and upwards of 150 mgs for chronic diseases like breast or prostate cancer. Having experimented myself with Lugol's Iodine, I now regard iodine as extremely body friendly - even in large amounts. In my own research on iodine, I also found that the Japanese have a daily iodine intake of at least 13. 8 mgs per day through eating alot of seaweed with every meal. The Japanese also have some of the lowest incidence of breast, prostate, uterine and lung cancer because of this fact -- this can only because of their relatively high (as compared to the US RDA) iodine intake.

I had heart arrythmia, and just took magnesium gluconate or magnesium chloride everyday -- 400 mgms -- plus I also used a small garden flower sprayer with 2-3 tablespoons of Epsom salts (magnesium sulphate) dissolved in water -- I just sprayed my torso with it after showers and absorbed the magnesium that way transdermally. This got rid of my arrythmia problems fairly quickly. At the time, I was also taking Ted's lemon/lime and BS alkalizing remedy and using natural sea salt, so I was getting enough potassium everyday. My problem was lack of both magnesium and iodine in my diet.

Techniques to Reset the Heart Rhythm

I would like to hear more from the gentleman from Mexico.

I have always believed that a problem with my back caused my a-fib but, the Doctors just laugh at me and pat me on the head and say we are trained, its our job. The a-fib started after I believe I ruptured a disk in the upper middle of my back. Now when I use my arms to scrub or do heavy work with my back and arms I have an attack. I do the magnesium, potassium, fish oil, and calcium. Because it makes me feel better but, I believe it is a nerve that is affecting the vagus nerve and that is creating the a-fib. I would like to hear more from Fred from Mexico or anyone who suspects this may be a cause. What would you tell a chiropractor about the problem?

Thank You.

Magnesium, Eating Less

A palpitation is an abnormality of heartbeat that causes a conscious awareness of its beating, whether it is too slow, too fast, irregular, or missing in between at its normal frequency. I have been a heart patient for the last ten years and I felt worst from my palpitation.

Every fifth beat of my heart went missing and I felt a noisy gear like sound in my heart. The feeling was anxiety but no pain. I went to ER, blood analysis and ECG were perfect except my Magnesium was a bit low. Doctor attending me gave me a sip of Magnesium solution. I came back home hale and hearty.

The next day, I again noticed the palpitation, this time 15th beat was missing. I went to gym and did my regular yoga, cardio and light weight exercise. The palpitation was gone. Mind you I had not exercised due to flue like symptoms earlier. Since then, I keep Magnesium level to normal, keep exercising and eating less than what I use to eat earlier. I am better and have not felt palpitation yet.

I think controlling the amount and quality of food is key to solve the problem. Always eat and fill 1/3 rd of your stomach. Keep 1/3rd for water and 1/3rd should remain empty. You will live for a long time.

I have been having Heart Palpitations, Tachardia about every 4 months for the past two years. My doctors have ran all kinds of heart test and can not find anything wrong with my heart. I had a serious one Sunday night and had to call 911, while I was waiting for them to ge there I thought I was going to die. I ran in the kitchen and took a few sips of apple cider vinegar straingt and the heart began to slow down, by time the ambulance got there my heart had slowed down to 110 beats per minute and my blood pressure had droped to 210/110. Apple Cider Vinegar just a few sips always works for me. Went back to Doctors, They still don't know what is causing it.

Magnesium for heart palpitations/panic attacks: I thank God for this site. I was having scary heart palpitations at night, and I knew it was panic attacks. The only course my doc offered was xanax, and as I was rushed through the visit there was no time to talk alternatives. I am not one of those people who thinks happiness is a pill away. I did my own research, and decided to try a magnesium supplement. The FIRST NIGHT I was heart palpitation-free. I can't believe doctors would rather throw a dangerous pill at you rather than discuss the effects of diet, exercise, and soda (caffeine&aspatame) on your body. Try Magnesium first, and make sure you are getting your potassium too!

Adrenal Fatigue Connection
Posted by Dave (Fountain Inn, Sc) on 05/08/2014

Hi there David,

With symptoms that combine:

1. Definite Infection and

2. A Fib...

If this were me I know I had a magnesium deficiency AND the virus has attacked the cardio, usually the heart.

The combo requires...Colloidal Silver (three tablespoons daily on empty stomach away from mineral intake) for at least a month AND

Magnesium supplements. If you have Epsom salts, you can take ES baths three times weekly for a super infusion possibly more comprehensive than just oral supplement.

But with a problem like yours, I'd both take the baths and supplement with 500 mg daily.

Usually A Fib can be eradicated with just mag...but if there's a virus lurking, then the condition is much worse than irregular heart beat or fast beat. The TWO conditions (virus plus deficient mag) make for a potential disaster.

As usual my standard disclaimer .... I'm not diagnosing or treating or advising...I am saying what I would do if this were happening to me.

Vijay, must tell you that my mom at 85 yrs had a stroke & was "gone" by the time I got her out of the bathroom & into the bed. Had to really hurry & find cayenne powder which I mixed with a few drips of water then swabbed her tongue & mouth heavily inside with it. Next, Ran into the pantry, found my habinaro oil & proceeded to swab her tongue & inside of her mouth with it also.( it was much more hot!)The doseage was approx. a tsp of cayenne powder & enough water to make a quick paste. for the habinaro oil I put about a 1/4 tsp all around in her mouth. Then, her eyes opened! She was back- no brain damage observed then or now. She didn't feel the heat of the hot oils or remember them at all. It works & it's immediate.

Dear Sintia,

I am not Ted, but I don't think he is able to answer posts right now. I have a few thoughts I thought I would share. Heart Palpitations are scary.

If you haven't already, please read people's stories on the Heart Palpitations page:

https://www.earthclinic.com/cures/heart_palpitations.html

Sometimes something very simple helps.

Caffeine and MSG are very common triggers. MSG is hidden in so many things - you need to look up "Hidden Sources of MSG" to be able to avoid it.

Blackstrap Molasses has helped people with palpitations and other arrythmias. You can take 1 Tablespoon morning and evening. I think the magnesium in it is what helps. Some people just use magnesium supplements.

Cayenne Pepper, Hawthorne Berry Powder, and Ginger are all excellent herbs for the heart. If my husband has some caffeine and then his heart starts acting up, he takes these herbs and it helps. You can take them daily.

It is encouraging that the doctors have not found a problem, but frustrating not to have a solution yet. I hope you find relief soon. Please be sure to let us know what works for you.

My friend had severe heart palpatations that had me driving him to the hostpital one time after he had sat there for 8 hours with an irregular heart beat! The hospital did what they knew to do but nothing worked for him and gave no really useful advice.

For another issue he started taking magnesium and a little zinc. He didn't really notice that he hadn't had a heart palpatation until one day he forgot to take the magnesium. His heart went irregular by about 2pm. He started to get worried.

He remembered he hadn't had his magnesium tablet and within a few minites of taking it the palpatations had completely stopped!

Reading other posts, I wonder if that's why molasses has worked for some people as it has a good supply of magnesium?

Someone posted about HP from the bath, happened to me too after two days of 2 baths per day with Epsom Salts, sometimes too much Magnesium.

Systemchip, I feel your pain. Until one actually suffers the spiraling hellhole of anxiety, racing heart, palpitations and the feeling of being 'shocked' constantly - with traditional MD's totally clueless and telling you that you are okay - they cannot possibly understand.

I have experienced all your symptoms and based on what you wrote - including the skin pigmentation - you almost surely have some form of adrenal fatigue/adrenal exhaustion. I was finally diagnosed with 3rd stage adrenal exhaustion by an amazing doctor, after wasting thousands on traditional MDs and even having a head endocrinologist at one of the biggest medical clinics in the country tell me that I was fine and didn't have a problem based off my extensive lab test results! It's sickening how so many in the medical field have become so utterly stupid when it comes to diagnosing people (such as not bothering to listen to the patient's symptoms, only their lab results) who are going through a form of hell most people cannot even begin to understand. Would not wish this on my worst enemy.

Mine started by taking in pure organic extra virgin coconut oil. That triggered some kind of adrenal crash that was actually years in the making - but it has led me to suffer horribly for the past 5 months and contemplate suicide when that was never anything I would have considered before. Again - if you have not experienced this kind of torture of your own body being out of control for MONTHS on end (let alone hours or days) then you cannot begin to pass judgement on those of us who seek natural cures as opposed to the idiotic allopathic medicine approach which by the way, is partly responsible for this because I was submerged in anti-depressants, anti-anxiety pills and antibiotics for most of my 36 years on this earth, and now I think they set the groundwork for what am I going through.

Anyway Systemchip, I am betting that your holter monitor will be normal and NOT show any indication of irregular heartbeat or such a low percentage your cardiologist will send you on your merry way, telling you all is well. I also bet your echocardiogram will be totally normal as well. With low blood pressure and low heart rate you most likely will not get a prescription for beta-blockers anyway, which is good. I say this because I literally JUST went through this all with my cardiologist, I was 100% sure he'd see abnormalities on my test as I could document to the second when they happened -- but nothing.

Hashitoxicosis survivor, here. What the 21 year old man described is very similar to my initial symptoms. I just wanted to add that a thyroid panel with includes ANTIBODY levels in imperative to determine whether that is what is going on or no. If you have TPO antibodies over 34, that's a Hashimoto's diagnosis. If you have hyperthyroid symptoms: racing heart, palpitations, high blood pressure, insomnia, rapid forced speech, then you have hashitoxicosos. There can be no hashitoxicosis without Hashimoto's. Hashitoxicosis is a form of Hashimoto's, an initial stage. It will resolve in either [1] normal thyroid function or [2] hypothyroidism after 3 - 24 months. There may also be a [3] stage of hypothyroidism following hashitoxicosis, that then proceeds to normal thyroid function subsequently, as well. This last [3] is what happened in my case.
