Gray Hair Remedies

If you make a Tea out of the peelings of old white potatoes then strain it, and add any seasonings to make it taste better - that will make your hair turn back to its natural color. The way to do it is to get an atlas mason jar and put the peelings into it and then close it loosely and put it in a pot lined with a towel to keep it from breaking. Boil it for about an hour to get all the potatoes vitamin properties. Then carefully open it with another towel and strain it. Then add your seasonings. Do it 1-2 times a day for as long as it takes to get your hair back to it's natural color. You can use the potato that you don't use to shred it and make a poultice for your eyes with it. It is great for the eyes!!

Blackstrap Molasses, Brewers Yeast

I have been coloring my gray hair for over 20 years. Decided to stop and try something natural. I went with the 1 Tb. molasses and 1 Tb. brewers yeast twice a day. Started about a month ago and not much change. I read that you need copper and my brewers yeast did not have copper in it. I changed to a different brand that had copper and now I am seeing more and more brown hair. I never would have believed it if I wasn't seeing if for myself. I am 52 years old and started getting some gray in my hair while still in my early 20s.

It works.

Alain posts that BSM is high in potassium. I started supplementing with potassium a few weeks ago to help with muscle aches (for which there's been a huge improvement) and I'm sure my formerly grey hair is returning to its normal colour as the dye grows out. Bonus!

At around the same time I started taking 2 tablespoons of blackstrap molasses for the iron (being vegetarian) and taking a Vitamin B supplement (for stress). Before this I had to dye my hair every few weeks to cover the grey that was threatening to overtake my dark hair. After six months of taking the two remedies daily I was able to stop colouring my hair!!! I couldn't believe it! Now I can actually see when I pull the odd grey out that they are gradually turning black at the folicle. It takes a long time, but the results are definitely worth the wait! I'm not sure whether it's the vitamins or the molasses or if they work together. Daily intake seems to be the key. Also I feel healthy and relaxed. Good luck!

Leilah from Baltimore: 17 is a very young age to be experiencing loss of color. And just b/c your parents had similar experiences, doesn't mean that the same thing didn't cause the lack of color --- For example, it's likely that both you and your parents eat the same kinds of foods. Is it possible that these foods are low in copper and other vitamins? In fact, it's even more possible that the foods your eating actually are stripping copper out of your system. For instance, sodas and sugary foods leached vitamins and minerals out of your body. So does stress. Are you a worrier? Are your parents? Constant stress causing the body to use up minerans & vitamins at a faster rate, leaving less nutrients to give your hair its natural color. Thus, if both your parents & you are worries, then it's likely that habit that is causing the loss of color. Change the habit, change the diet, change the CAUSE, and you'll change your hair color. Good luck! YOu can do it!

If its the copper in the BSM for grey hair reversal, then why not just take a copper supplement and skip all that sugar!!!!!

You should take magnesium, vitamin c, selenium (raw Brazil nuts have the highest concentration 5-7 a day), b complex, and zinc, a couple of weeks before beginning the iodine therapy. It helps in case you have toxins in your system, as you will detox and this helps bond these toxins to remove them with the least amount of side effects. Also, zinc and magnesium work in harmony with iodine. I have been on Lugol's 2 percent for almost 6 weeks. I also use salt loading when I get a head ache or any other(new) symptoms. I am not on it for hair loss, but I have a lot of new growth, anyway!

Lol! hi,just reading these interesting comments on molasses, couldnt help but laugh(sorry)but the benefits of molasses is found in its nutritional value (vitamins ect.) coffee contains (((CAFFINE))) which is an (((ANTI-VITAMIN))) lol! so for month's you've been taking molasses and KILLING it's vitamins by stirring it in very effective HOT ANTI_VITAMIN KILLING solution!(namely coffee) and then drinking it to insure the water would help carry it's anti-vitamin agent to all of your organs to kill other vitamins recieved from other sources as well!(Did you know that the BRAIN also needs and uses certain vitamins to function correctly?)Which may explain why youve been repeating the process for months LOL! Even without adding the molasses caffinated coffee HELPS turn hair grey!Lol-don't tell me....you added sugar to help speed up the greying proccess even more right? Give yourself a fair chance to see if the molasses really works for you or not but don't "kill it" before its even had a chance to get into your blood steam!

It's like the millions of people (I won't mention the demographics) who go to lunch every day trying to be healthy by ordering a huge SALAD and then buying a DIET PEPSI to wash it down with LOL!!! Diet sodas actually have MORE CAFFINE than regular sodas OR COFFEE!!!so they just washed away ALL the potential vitamins they THINK they are getting by eating a huge salad.Perhaps adding the molasses to a daily oatmeal breakfast with honey is the better way to go-for one you can take more than a tablespoon and tolerate it better because you'll hardly notice the taste and you can add wheat germ to it also which is also beneficial to your goal.To make up for all the time lost on your "coffee and molasses adventure"lol maybe you can have the oatmeal TWICE a day and add 2 tablespoon of Blackstrap molasses each time -(it will also do wonders for you if you have any kind of high cholesterol problems (oatmeal does that you know).

About the blackstrap molasses and gray hair...it works. I tried if before ever knowing it could turn gray hair black..it was just something I noticed it did while taking it for another reason. Since then i have found out that early graying (is this you?) is linked to thyroid disease. just google "one gray hair and thyroid".

Also, one of Ted's posting about the pineal gland is one of the most informative things posted on this site. Calcification of your pineal gland can keep you struggling to recover from many illness. The melatonin from the pineal produced at the RIGHT time (one peak at night) is essential.

Has anyone heard of this cure all remedy...the urine cure. Has anyone tried it? Its tried overseas, one ounce daily i think? It sounds disgusting, but apparently has cured people from many illnesses, including terrible cases of tuberculosis, which of course is caused by a mycobacterium. Just Google mycobacterium, urine, and cure.

Also, for Lupus people, they tend to be sensitive to electromagnetic frequencies. I have personally found that simply not putting a cell phone or a cordless telephone up to my head greatly improved my autoimmune symptoms than just with diet alone. It turns out, electromagnetic frequencies also block melatonin synthesis.

Finally, if you have lupus and Raynaud's and live somewhere where it is cold, the Raynaud's is closely linked to low thyroid function on exposure to cold weather. Raynaud's has been cured by treated the thyroid. City tapwater has caused most of the lupus symptoms for me...its the pipes and the water that flows through them.

After reading here about black strap molasses and gray hair, I have been taking 1-2 tablespoons in my coffee each morning for a little over three months. I tried it in hot water and it was horrible. In coffee, it taste like a latte, and after getting used to it, I look forward to it every day. The first two months I noticed a difference, but wondered if it was my imagination or wishful thinking. Now at three months, I would say the gray is 70% gone, and my stylist is absolutely amazed. The white patch above my forehead is gone completely. I'm 40 yrs old, and was starting to gray rapidly, it was costing a fortune to keep covered. The first 2 months, my hair grew so fast, that the gray was showing quicker, but I'm glad that I stuck with it, the little bit I have left is hardly noticable, and I am hoping that in time, it will all be gone. I am so thankful that I read about this on your site, and will be taking it for the rest of my life. I have also noticed an increase in energy, and believe it to be the molasses also. Thank you!

Lugol's Iodine

I use Iodine - Lugol's Solution: My grey hair and my dog's grey hair both are going back to our natural color. We've been taking in for 6 weeks now. I am 200 pounds and am taking 8-10 drops of Lugol's daily. My dog, at about 100 pounds, gets 4-5 drops daily

Lugol's Iodine
Posted by Bill (San Fernando, The Philippines) on 02/13/2012

There seems to be some confusion over the use of Lugol's Iodine. What people tend to always forget is that the drop dosage of say 50 mgs of 5% Lugol's Iodine per day is completely different from the same 50 mg drop dosage from say a 2% Lugol's Iodine solution.

A single drop of 5% strength, Lugol's Iodine -- where one drop contains 6. 25 mgs iodine -- would be about 8 drops. A single drop of 2% Lugol's Iodine would therefore contain only 2. 50 mgs of Iodine. So to get a 50 mgs dose from a 5% LI solution would be only 8 drops, whereas a 50 mgs doasage from a 2% LI solution would require 20 drops(2. 5 times more).

To help clarify this, here is a table that shows total Iodine content per drop for different % strengths of Lugol's Iodine:

Sourece:http://breastcancerchoices.org/lugolschart.html

Most historic dosages of LI refer to 5% Lugol's Iodine, whereas today, due to restrictions on LI strength, most Lugol's Iodine sold is at only 2% strength -- therefore the number of drops taken for an equivalent 2% LI dose of say 50 mgs will be much more.

This is important to understand in order to achieve correct dosages that you want to take every day.

Lugol's Iodine
Posted by Bill (San Fernando, Philippines) on 02/17/2012

Hi Jac... I would certainly not combine Lugol's Iodine(LI), Hydrogen Peroxide and Vitamin C together every day. Both Hydrogen Peroxide and. LI are quite reactive. If you combine Hydrogen Peroxide and LI together in an acid medium then this may form Hydriodic Acid -- a very strong acid. However, there are benefits if you combine Vitamin C with LI -- the elemental iodine in the LI will oxidize the Vitamin C to dehydroascorbic acid -- which is beneficial to the brain(Normal vitamin c cannot cross the blood/brain barrier). Also, all the elemental iodine in the LI will be converted to iodide. So, if you want to specifically get vitamin c to the brain or you want a larger dose of iodide as an antioxidant or to help recover just your thyroid, then combining vit c with LI is useful. But this form of iodine will not have the bodywide beneficial effects on the body as LI alone because LI, which is iodide and iodine in a solution of water, also creates Triiodide or I3- in an equilibrium reaction:

I2 (elemental iodine) plus I (ionic iodide)¢‡Œ I3 (Triiodide)

So with LI you get all three types of highly beneficial iodine which are all useful in different ways to the body. These iodine/iodide forms are beneficial because different regions, organs and glands the human body absorb different forms of iodine/iodide. For instance the female breast can absorb only iodine and not the iodide form. Same with the prostate. Other parts of the body -- like the thyroid -- can only absorb it as iodide. So you must have all 3 forms of iodide/iodine present to obtain whole body iodine sufficiency (not just for thyroid sufficiency). In fact, as has been proved through research, the body needs 100 times more iodide/iodine than the thyroid requires. This is why Lugol's Iodine is the best form -- because it has the right balance of iodide/iodine that is required for whole body sufficiency -- including thyroid sufficiency. I usually always take iodine in a glass of water alone outside mealtimes -- with nothing else. I would also advise that you do the same with hydrogen peroxide(HP). You can also take HP combined quite safely with sodium bicarbonate in water which will help alkalize your blood at the same time.

The hair becoming coloured from eating liver is probably due to catalase being present in liver - catalase deficiency is the cause of grey hair.

Some people have had success taking liquid chlorophyll.

If you are allergic to dye, I would recommend using henna and indigo, in pure herbal form, to dye your hair. It's 100% natural - from a plant - no chemicals. It's also permanent and provides excellent coverage for gray and white hair. If you want a nice dark reddish brown, you can mix henna and indigo together. Or if you want to dye it black, you first dye it with the henna, wash, and then dye it with the indigo. Go to mehandi.com for all the instructions and to buy it. Be careful of other suppliers who add chemicals to their "henna."

Dietary Changes

Hi Earthclinicians. I think I've found a way of increasing/decreasing grey hair. When I drink alcohol or caffeine my hair is very much greyer the next day.

When I drink wheatgrass over a few days or I juice vegetables, my hair goes back to its original colour again. It also gets thicker. I've had this confirmed by others who've seen the change.

I think it's about about blood pH and keeping on an alkaline diet.

This is my observation anyway.

I have quite pale skin (I'm not the whitest in the world but I'm quite pale) Blue eyes and premature grey hairs. I've heard that blue eyes and premature grey hairs is a b12 deficiency that can result in having Pernicious Anemia. I have done plenty of blood tests in my life and nothing has shown up about anemia or low vitamin b12.

I just thought I would put this information out there if anyone has these symptoms and wanted to get a blood test and check it out.

I had been taking organic unsulphured blackstrap molasses for gray hair for the last year or so. Instead, I found that it cured my borderline anemia and I could donate blood again. I take a tablespoon every day with soymilk. It is also working on my gray hair but much more slowly. I realise that my roots are not turning gray as quickly as before and I could wait longer before retouching my roots. Very pleased with the results as I had been trying other remedies like flaxseed oil and vitamin Bs without success. I am vegan so blackstrap molasses is definitely useful for vegetarians or vegans who have problems with anemia.

I am going to try unsulphered blackstrap molasses from tomorrow. I bought it from Wholefoods. It doesnt say it contains copper so I asked a specialist there and He said they dont list everything on the package but it does contain coppper. I hope it works for me as it did for other. Wheatgrass
Posted by Man (America) on 01/01/2014

There may have been a misunderstanding on the issue of gray hair, Amar. To my knowledge there is no instantaneous cure to convert gray hair back to normal, but if there were and it involved Wheat grass then it would involve Living Wheat grass juice. That means you have to grow this stuff in your kitchen and juice it and drink it while it is fresh. Wheat grass juice is a living drink. I can say from experience that Wheatgrass juice will help you but it is not a drug, and it does not work in a week, in two weeks. When I did this it was a daily commitment for three months. It worked so well that I continued to grow and juice wheatgrass for over a year after I noticed my issue had disappeared. (Mine was Acid Reflux). So the first issue is time. Even with the dry product which you bought may have some positive affect, but it is not going to work over night. This isn't magic we are talking about. Consider this word-image: The general direction of a man's health is like a two hundred tonne Ocean liner going in a direction. if the captain of the ship decides to change directions, he turns the rudder. But the ship does not immediately go in the direction that he turned the rudder. It takes time for the body to respond to proper nutrition. I have seen God Almighty heal people instantly. I have witnessed crippled men jump and walk perfectly who for years have been in excruciating and debilitating pain. So I don't discount instantaneous healing, I am a man of Trust/faith in the operation of the Law of God. But for most people time and proper nutrition is the solution.

Vanessa:
Have you tried any of the other remedies on the Gray Hair page?:
https://www.earthclinic.com/cures/hair_gray.html

I would guess that where you live, something like seaweed should be readily available. Also, it's non-prescription and it should be quite inexpensive too. Remember that the life cycle of each hair is a few years, and the hair shaft above the scalp is dead keratin, so it won't change back but new erupting hairs you will be able to see if they're dark. The amount of bound iodine in seaweed can vary greatly, like by a factor of 100, but Iodine isn't the top reason for seaweed in this case. As a living plant from the ocean, it will have most or all of the trace minerals that are mostly missing today from any land soil-grown food plants. The one specific trace mineral that gets mentioned repeatedly as being deficient in gray hair is COPPER. It is also necessary in reinforcing the arterial walls to prevent aneurysms. It is usually available in a 3 mg dosage tablet copper sulfate.

http://www.livestrong.com/article/172218-supplements-for-gray-hair/
According to Oregon State University's Linus Pauling Institute, loss of pigmentation is one of the many symptoms of copper deficiency, since copper has an essential role in the enzyme processes involved in melanin formation. This is a trace mineral, meaning that the body needs only a small amount. While too little copper can contribute to health problems, too much copper can also be unhealthy. Consult a certified nutritionist to help determine the right dosage before supplementing copper to help with graying hair.

Kelp: Sea-based foods like kelp are high in naturally occurring minerals including iodine essential for the proper function of the thyroid gland. Unfortunately kelp has fallen out of favor in Western diets due to its salty taste. Whilst in Asia recently I remarked how uncommon it was to see people under 70 with gray hair, this is due partly to their wholefood diets and consumption of sea-based vegetables. #

Fermented Foods: long implicated as being essential for a healthy digestive system. Most cultures have a version of fermented foods which provide local beneficial bacteria for the digestive system. Examples include miso, Kimchee, Sauerkraut, yogurt, Kefir, sourdough breads. Many of these you can make yourself using easily obtained base products.

Then there's Foti:
http://www.scumdoctor.com/beauty/hair-coloring/gray-hair/Herb-To-Eliminate-Gray-Hair.html

Many traditional methods use herbs to eliminate gray hair and a popular Chinese herb used to get rid of gray hair is Foti. Foti is the common name for polygonum multiforum. It is a climbing vine with red stems and white or pink flowers. It is grown in central and south China. It is known to grow to a length of 30 feet. I moved to China in the age of 24 coz of work requirements, before that I had absolutely no issues with my hair, in fact they were great. By 26 my eating habbits were totally changed and I wasnt eating home cooked food and religious factors stopped me from various foods. At that time I noticed few grey/white hair appearing in the beard and head. They were few so I didnt care much but when I was 27, I started seeing a lot of them.. i believe it was a little early for me as I had no genetical problems for hair in my family.. I did a little research on google and tried using coconut oil/vaselene/medicated shampoo and almost everything but I realized that its only helping in a minor shine and conditioning for a temporary time and hair grows from inside out not outside in.. so it wasnt helping much and didnt convince me.. then i read about Blackstrap molasses on the web.. I tried to find it but finally I had to go to HongKong to get it. I have been using it for almost 3 months now regularly and by the way its not unsulphered.. its organic (pure blackstrap molasses).. in the first month..nothing happened, 2nd month.. some white hair started falling..3rd month.. I started seeing white and weak hair falling down regularly and some white hair r getting brown back to its original color only from the tip not from the roots..the pure white hair are also catching brown color very slowly.. my beard is still unchanged coz i think hair is very thick there and i shave almost everyday..so after 3 months there are some results finally.. lets say out of 30% white hair i am left with 22% (not a great achievement anyway)... I never used hair color.. I would just say that if you plan to use BSM then be patient.. results are definite but u have to wait for a long time.. I think after 6 months I will start getting it back more quickly..i m not sure about beared but lets see..the other effects of BSM is that i have gained weight a little..but there is another thing i noticed.. I havent even caught cold from the time i started using BSM.. I m catching no flu..although i travelled to cold places in different countries..i interact with sick ppl too sometimes..but i think its coz of BSM..and also i avoid restaurants.. i prefer eating at my apartment.. i try to keep balance in diet..meat/veg/fruits/milk..I include them everyday.. i dont use any special shampoo now.. i just use a herbal one.. mild shampoo without much chemicals..

its worth trying..good luck!

anyone has same results especially for beard.. plz share [email protected]

Copper Supplementation
Posted by Joy (Battleground, Wash) on 05/29/2013

While it is TRUE that hair goes white and grey due to mineral deficiency and mineral imbalance could be the cause. Also, if you take kelp and you are hyperthyroid you will SUFFER. Copper toxicity causes liver problems and thyroid problems.

A healthier appoach would be to take a full spectrum mineral with supporting vitamins since minerals are only part of the orchestra. My grey hairs are going away with supplements and I use very little copper or zinc.

If you use the supplement you bought; try 1 every other day so you don't get overload and cause a deficiency in your other minerals

A progesterone deficiency can also cause grey hair.

Sour Apples
Posted by Mark (Silver Spring, MD USA) on 03/02/2009

Read this on Yahoo. Scientists have appeared to have uncovered the reason hair turns gray; it's a low level of the enzyme, catalase. Researched that and came upon a web site, albeit hawking a product, discussed studies about apples. Three different studies, one in Russia, one in China and one in Spain, showed that, in laboratory animals, giving them an extract of sour apples increased their lifespan and for human application, eating sour apples(Granny Smith, for example)reversed gray hair. How many apples per day it didn't say and as I stated, this was from a web site that had an apple supplement to sell. I've started eating 3-4 apples a day. Let's see.

One idea I haven't seen is: I use shampoo out of a bottle until I can pour 100ml H2O2 into it. I have to shake the bottle when I want to use it. I have stayed blond and have no grey hairs and it keeps my scalp healthy.

Thank you so very much for the terrific site -- awesome information! I have been following the remedy suggested for reversing gray hair for only the last four weeks and cannot believe it, but see dark hair growing in replacing the gray! What I've been doing each day is taking one tablespoon of blackstrap molasses on a spoon, one tablespoon of brewer's yeast mixed with orange juice, and one large tablespoon or wheat germ mixed with a small amount of plain yogurt along with a 1/2 teaspoon of sodium ascorbate mixed in orange juice and one capsule of chelated manganese. I feel extremely strong and healthy also. Will provide further updates!
