Borax
Posted by Martin (Summerville, Sc, Usa) on 05/03/2011

I've been having a problem with jock itch, and have read on this site, that Borax is a great anti-fungal. I bought some, and tried to wash in the shower but this stuff is like sandpaper. I bolded water and dissolved some, But, when it cooled down, It crystallized in the glass. Also, how much do you use and the time. I would appreciate any help because I have been suffering with jock itch for number of years and have tried every medicine the doctors have prescribed and a number of natural remedies to no avail.

Oregano Oil

I didn't realise I had jock strap until it spread even in my belly button and armpits. I tried few remedies here didn't work.

I couldn't find any Oregano oil but best method so far for me is using combo of Anti Fungal cream, Anti Fungal tablets, Selsun BLue Shampoo, Anti Fungal Powder & eating lots garlic.

Over here the government funded public hospitals have 1 dollar for general consultations, each time you go you pay 1 dollar and get a tube of anti fungal cream. I went there few times past week to get enough tubes to help with it. Then I went to pharmacy to get Anti Fungal tablets. Very important to have oral meds if its really bad. I read Garlic is good against fungal as well.

I make sure each time I shower I wash those areas with Selsun Blue Shampoo then after shower I would powder those areas with Anti Fungal Powder eg Mecazo Powder.

My was pretty serious before I start acting on it, it looked like it has layers of different shades of red on it. So far within 4 days its no longer reddish only pinkish on all affected skin areas. I think its healing properly.

I have had Jock itch off and on for 20 years. After going swimming with my daughter at the local pool two to three times a week I noticed my issues went away completely. They stayed gone even after we stopped swimming. After four months of not swimming it slowly came back. So I have taken to bathing in the tub with a half cup of bleach water two to three times a week and had an amazingly fast results.

I have used over the counter, vasoline, gold bond many, many times over the years and nothing works as well as bleach in water.

When I was suntanning in tanning beds ten years ago I had decent reductions in jock itch then also.

I have had success with the goldbonds, however its the gold bottle that has worked best for me. The key is keeping it dry, use a blow dryer on the area after showering and dont forget the back door too! The moisture will definitely migrate to the front.....

Borax

Tea tree oil worked for me on jock itch a couple of times where over the counter remedies failed. But the last time I tried it, I got a rash all over that wouldn't go away until I stopped using tea tree oil. Apparently, that is not an uncommon side-effect. A couple of weeks ago, I went for a run and kept my sweaty shorts and socks on while doing some yard work. By the end of the day, that old, familiar itch was back. Baah! After going through a couple of expensive tubes of Lamisil (and finding the relief to be increasingly fleeting), I found the discussion of Borax cures on this site. I knew that Borax was good for removing the mildew smell from old gym clothes, so I decided to give it a try. I dissolved about a cup of Borax in a big pot of hot water (maybe two gallons). I dipped a microfiber car rag in it (a wash cloth would do, if your wife doesn't mind you getting too familiar with it :)), and applied it to the affected area for a few minutes. Then I soaked my feet in the rest of the solution for half an hour. It felt great -- about a 60% improvement after one day, and 90% after two days. By day three, it's virtually cured, but I will keep it up for a few more days to make sure it's knocked out. There's no more itching or redness around my privates, and no more peeling skin on my feet. Be sure to toss a little Borax into your laundry to kill the tinea fungus on your socks and shorts. I also applied a bit of boric acid powder in the morning, as Wikipedia said it's effective for jock itch. I also figured that the alkaline Borax and acidic boric acid might deliver a 1-2 punch against any skin problems.

P. S., I have also suspended taking my hypertension medication (Lisinopril, an ACE inhibitor) until I'm sure this is cleared up. I found it would make me sweat more when exercising or eating spicy food. Staying dry is essential!

Gold Bond doesn't work; it is ok if just starting to get symptoms, but once you get a bad case, I too think it makes it worse. Dr. Prescribed Econazole Nitrate Creme and it cleared up real fast.

Hydrogen Peroxide, Petroleum Jelly

I'm not a big fan of pharmaceuticals, so did a little bit of research on my favourite remedy for many things to see wether there are applications for it in treating jock itch - hydrogen peroxide. I applied 3% solution with a drenched piece of cotton wool which burnt like CRAZY, leaving the infected area red, sore and tender. I'm not sure whether the hydrogen peroxide finally aided or not, but in any event I had to do something about the discomfort as it was time to go to work and the next simplest thing I could think of was plain petroleum jelly.

After applying a decent amount of petroleum jelly on the affected area the sting went away and when I got home I applied some more before going to bed. By the morning the rash was more than 90% gone and the itch as well! Amazing! I can't wait until next year to see whether petroleum jelly by itself would be effective-- I've read that this fungus which affects the top layer of skin cannot receive oxygen through oil and thus dies upon the application of most oils or lotions.

Hi Toxela...Here is the MSDS(Material Safety Data Sheet) -- which accords with ALL research and is the Bible in this regard.

http://www.jtbaker.com/msds/englishhtml/H4070.htm

You will notice that under the Cancer List in the Toxicity Info section, 3% HP has no Known or Anticiated cancer causing effects.

Also you will notice that Phenocetin -- used as the HP stabilizer for 3% HP IS a cancer causing agent.

Therefore 35% pure food grade HP is NOT a carcinogen.

Hydrogen Peroxide
Posted by Toxeia (Lf, Tx) on 03/14/2010

Hydrogen peroxide (3%, 35%, any concentration) is a carcinogen (read: Can cause cancer). Orally, it is also a bad idea to use as it causes a condition known as "brown hairy tongue." While the name isn't very authoritative sounding, I've seen it myself in patients that claim to use H2O2 as a daily mouth rinse.

Your husband's sore throat could actually be Candida related as it can be passed from spouse to spouse even though most doctors do not recognize that fact.

I do not recommend using any powder that contains cornstarch in it. Not knowing what I had, I used Gold Bond powder and it made the problem much worse. And then to top it all off I bought a powder that's supposed to cure jock itch and it's main ingredient is cornstarch.

P.s. rubbing alcohol...very painful!

Mouthwash

Listerene (mouth wash) cured my Jock Itch.

I had Jock Itch for years and had tried the usual creams that they advertise, they didn't work. I read on a site somewhere to use Listerne, as I already had some in my bathroom cabinet I decided to give it a trial run.

I applied it to the area (and a bit further) after a shower in the morning, then in the evening before bed. Yes, at first it does burn a little, but after a while you get used to it and the burning does actually decrease (I assume because its working!). I basically nearly went through a whole bottle of the expensive Listerene, but I guess you could use the normal stuff. I have a feeling its the Menthol and/or maybe the Eucalyptol in the Mouth Wash that are the active ingredients.

*Please feel free to amend this email, I DO NOT work for the people who make Listerene! As I said I just have a feeling it was the active ingredients that worked and may exist in other mouth washes.

Thanks

My husband used 3 per cent hydrogen peroxide (35 per cent food grade hydrogen peroxide diluted 1:10 with filtered water) sprayed onto his groin area, then left to dry, morning and evening. The spray did not sting in any way. The jock itch soon went away, and has never come back. This is an effective and cheap remedy.

Are you people kidding me diluting the peroxide, it doesnt work anyways but diluting it would only make it not powerful and for using it as mouth wash my grandfather has been doing it for 30 years and he does not dilute it. This is folly, Avoid listening to these.

This product does not work very well, I have seek out everything possible otc and through my doctor. This powder only helps to dry and cool the area for about 10 minutes and then it is back to the pain.

To Jim: it looks like he dabbed 35% on straight, then jumped in the shower and rinsed it off. I have soaked my nail fungus in 20% H202 for 15 minutes and it hasn't been a problem. But you're right, for the inhalation, it needs to be diluted down to 3%!!

Hydrogen Peroxide
Posted by Jim (Frankfort, IL) on 05/01/2009

Please be careful! 35% hydrogen peroxide can be VERY DANGEROUS and can cause severe burns. A man on this site writing about using it for jock itch and for oral care did not mention DILUTING the hydrogen peroxide. I believe it is crucial to dilute it properly.

Orange and Neem Oils, Borax and H2O2

My twenty one year old son with Down syndrome has had jock itch since he went through puberty. Over the counter remedies didn't work. Essential oils such as eucalyptus and tea tree helped a little but not significantly, and irritated his already sensitive skin. More diluted mixtures to protect the skin weren't strong enough to help significantly. Eventually the skin became purplish gray (from chronic jock itch, according to the doctor). In addition, the skin on his entire body is always red, very dry and irritated looking.

Recently I had scabies and decided to treat my son in order to prevent him from catching them. The things I did differently than usual were to add some orange oil to his body wash and shampoo, use neem oil on his skin, and I soaked him twice in one week with Ted's borax/hydrogen peroxide soak (not too much peroxide) and left it on the skin. After about ten days, I brought him to the doctor to make sure he didn't have scabies. When the doctor examined his private area, he looked so surprised and commented about how much better my son's skin looked. In fact although still dry looking, the redness that pretty much covers his entire body is about eighty-five per cent gone! I realized that he hasn't been scratching lately either. I don't know which of the remedies contributed to his improvement, possibly a good combination of treatments. In fact it's early to tell, but he might even be completely cured of the jock itch. I chose the neem for it's anti-scaby benefits, but also because it's said to be kind to the skin. I had the impression from researching that neem eliminates scabies, over time, with consistent daily applications, not a one or two time application to be effective.

BTW, I enjoy sharing effective remedies, because we've been helped so much by the info on the site and i like to give back.

I think I had jock itch for months maybe longer. I found a site which I lost which suggested deodorant for tinea. I had a rash on both legs starting at the groin and extending 3 inches down. It matched the descriptions, red and darker on the leading edge. I used my wife's roll on deodorant by smearing on a light coat each morning after my shower. It cleared up in less than 2 weeks, but it had an initial effect in the first few days. 3 weeks and there is now hardly any sign of it. I think most deodorants have the same ingredients.

I've had 'jock itch' now for around 20 years. It comes and goes and is always worse in the summer. I've tried all the creams and sprays and all they do is suppress it and control it. I ordered some food grade H202 on line, 35% and just dabbed it on with a cotton ball and it immediately turned white and started to burn, I let it burn for about 20 seconds then jumped in the shower and rinsed it off. I did this again at night. The next day I diluted it by half and applied it again for as long as I could stand it, no longer then a minute. As I did this I noticed that the fungus was spread around a larger area then I ever imagined. I had small areas that went from my inner leg all the way up above my pubic hair. Anyway after about 10 days the insidious fungus was eradicated and hasn't come back! Thank you Earth Clinic. I am now huffing H202 a few times a day and I gargle with it twice a day and notice my teeth are getting whiter and cleaner. Who knew?

Jock Itch: I have purchased numerous remedies over the years but the tea tree oil is all I found that worked, and incredibly fast. I used it for maybe two weeks, once a day, and the problem was gone. I had previously tried the colloidal silver alone, but with no significant results. This was a maybe 6 months ago and have had no recurrences.

I agree with Gene above on the Rubbing Alcohol 100%! I must say it will burn at first, but actually sooths the issue after the quick discomfort. Just rubbed some on with a cloth twice a day and in no issue after 2 days. Again, just rub some on your crotch or anal area and be prepared for a quick joust. Healing occurs quickly though. I am the type to turn up the heat, so Im not afraid to use as much as I think I need. That goes for any healing remedy for that matter. As a healer myself I've always told people to go this website for answers on health challenges. Now my first health issue I didnt solve myself in many years. Gene's story assisted me after a few other remedies didnt work. Thanks Gene and EarthClinic!

This has worked in my family for jock itch. Washing the area really well with a Tea Tree soap. Dry well and use GOLD BOND POWDER in the green bottle. It burns like fire for a few minutes but the next day the itching is gone. Do again the next day just to be on the safe side. Worked very well.

I had this terrible itching in the crotch area for four weeks that was driving me mad! I finally decided it was something that needed attention so I did some research and decided it must be jock itch. I thought only men got this, but here I was with the malady. I began to try various remedies. Here is a list of what I tried that did not work for me: ACV with honey (4 cups per day), rubbing alcohol, hydrogen peroxide (rubbed on one day and held on for 30 minutes the next day), coconut oil internally and externally, tea tree oil, a rescue remedy tincture, athletes foot powder, a topical Lysine cream, diluted vinegar/water (3:1) with some grapeseed extract as a wash, A&D ointment and a one-ounce tube of hydrocortisone 1% cream. Nothing even touched it (although the hydrocortisone cream helped with the itching). So I went to the health food store and, being too embarrassed to tell them I had jock itch, instead told them I had altheltes foot (both are fungal). The lady suggested OIL of OREGANO. I had some on hand, so, after putting on a generous application of A&D ointment to areas I did not want touched by the oil (very important! don't skip this step! I am assuming any sort of oil or vaseline would work for this step) I used a q-tip and I put a small dab on each nickel-sized sores. It stung! A bring tears to your eyes sting! Like what-did-I-ever-do-to-deserve-this sting! It began to lesson after about 10 minutes, but I finally couldn't take it anymore and rubbed the area with coconut oil! I am pleased to say I have down-graded the sores from what I would call "active", to what I would consider "going away."

CAUTION - when you use oil of oregano less is best! Only apply once or twice a day. Only apply directly to the area. One time I had used too much on a little spot on my arm, letting it run all over and I applied it four to six times a day for probably seven days. It caused a burn of sorts that didn't go away for weeks!

I love your website! We have cured my husband of strep-throat four times in the last few- years with all your strep-throat remedies.

Was having numerous outbreaks of boils last year. It started after neglecting a bout of heat rash which turned in to a jock itch, then the boils started coming. My stress level was high and felt my immune system getting low due to long hours at work and little sleep and poor nutrition. Was looking for info on boils and came across this site and turmeric. Had some turmeric in the spice cabinet and tried some. Could tell it was doing something because of feeling flushed after a few minutes. Liked it so much started to use it in capsule form. Did not get any boils since then. It's been since December. Also joint pain in my finger has greatly diminished. Started taking my vitamins and supplements again and after a couple of months started feeling normal again. Also, two days after starting on my vitamins and turmeric, my jock disappeared never to return so far. And I used about five cans of the Jock Itch Spray during a couple months trying to get rid of it. But still have a little problem with a planter wart on my heel. Due to long hours standing, seemed to turn the heel a little discolored. Looked around for info on heel getting discolored but have not found anything. Been soaking it in a Tea Tree Oil bath with a little improvement. Also been using tea tree oil as a shampoo and been noticing new hair growth on my head after a few days. Good product. Thanks Ted for all the great info you share with everyone. Mahalo from Hawaii

I've used hydrogen peroxide, 3% pharmacy grade cut 50% with water, to rinse my mouth before brushing, which has been a great help with eliminating bad breath and plaque. But here's a remedy that no one may have thought - a treatment for "tinea cruris" commonly known as jock itch. I had an issue with this for several months and during this period, several times a week, I used Curex and other over-the-counter options to eliminate it, spending $20.00 to $30.00 to no avail. I knew hydrogen peroxide was effective in killing bacteria, so, as a last resort, I cut the pharmacy 3% grade 50%, just like the mouth wash, and used it-in 2 days!!! the itch and soreness was gone! No joke. Total cost 20 cents!

Tea Tree Oil

Well, let's see if I can describe this without being too unladylike. I had some kind of terrible itching "down there" which I think first started out as the result of an abrasion that wasn't healing properly, and then got worse because of a reaction to the ultra cheap toilet paper at work. This was getting worse over the course of several weeks.

I got some relief from colloidal silver applied topically. I did that for a couple of days and it was helping. Then I mixed some colloidal silver and some tea tree oil with some aloe vera gel, and applied that, it was way too strong, but even though it had a warm sensation and I wanted to rinse most of it off right away it gave immediate and lasting relief from the itching. The next day I took some of the too-strong mixture and diluted it in some unscented lotion (Nature's Gate brand, very mild). I have been using that for a couple of days after showering and it is amazing how effective it is. No more itching and everything is healing nicely. Worked great. Hope this helps someone, I sure love this web site, trying to tell others about it too. Thanks!
