Baths With Bleach

My pediatrician actually prescribed bleach baths for my daughter who had a MRSA rash on her bottom. 1/4 cup to a tub full every other day for a week, every three days for a week, all the way to once a week. It's no different than the chlorine in a pool.

Multiple Remedies

I have had a staph infection next to my eye for the past 7 months. I am not sure what it is exactly, as no doctor has ever taken a culture of it, however I have managed to get it under control initially with turmeric, tea tree oil, olive leaf extract, a high alkaline/lysine diet and allimeds. Initially all of these remedies alter and help kill the staph infection and it has gone from covering half of my face to tiny pinpoints of redness to barely shadows on my skin. At one point I was at a standstill with the allimeds, nothing seemed to be working to cure the increasing pain and burning near my eye. And so I turned to green clay (calcium bentonite) and it has been incredibly successful at bringing the infections to the surface. It is rather abrasive on the skin (especially near the eye) so it is good to give your skin a break between applications, apply vitamin E as well to keep it moist and scar-free. I am finding great improvements in the past 2 weeks I have been using the clay, it actually pulls the toxins out and you can feel it doing so. I have also ordered French green clay, which has a different mineral composition - we'll see how that goes.

I know you may be as frustrated as myself with this situation - please hang in there...I've had some pretty low days myself, but persistence is going to be the only thing that kills this mean little bugger. Good luck!

Vitamin D

I had MRSA for a whole year from 3/09 to 3/10. I had no idea what staph/mrsa was and when I got the boil I thought it would go away and didn't know it would get so much worse within a matter of minutes. Anyways, the doctors put me on a round of Cipro. One month later, another boil came and then I was put on Bactrim.

In the meantime, I looked on earthclinic for help. I tried Turmeric for a month, Colloidal Silver for 3 Months, Vitamin C, Magnesium. Finally, I read about drinking Acai Berry juice. This worked immediately by just drinking a cup of the juice twice a day, my hard painful boil was gone the next day. But when I stopped the Acai juice, the boils came back. I started looking for other permanent cures.

Then I decided to try Vitamin D3, that I found on Ebay, with each capsule containing 10,000 iu's. I took 40,000 iu's, which was 4 pills a day. I did this for 3 months, with no other supplements. My spring allergies disappeared, my insomnia went away, my sebhoreic dermatitis went away, my skin cleared up and finally my boils did not return. The only thing is, I think my candida got worse from taking the Vitamin D. So, I'm not taking it anymore and am now trying to alkalize with Ted's Potassium Bicarbonate remedy.

It's been about two months now and I'm MRSA free. This was not the case 5 or 6 months ago, when I had a new MRSA boil every month. I guess what works for one doesn't work for others. But, Vitamin D did it for me. If there is anything ailing, "seek and you shall find." Had I not come to earthclinic, I would still be on antibiotics right now.

Grapefruit Seed Extract

This works!! I had MRSA on my face, my face was swollen from my eye to my neck with the thick green pus coming from a small sore on my upper lip. It was so bad that the doctor tried lanceing to get some of the pus out. The doctor didn't think it was MRSA, but I made her do a culture and it came back positive for MRSA. I had been to the doctors 5 times in 3 days and I was fed up with the back and forth and no results, so my mother in law told me about the grapefruit seed extract. I put 4 to 5 drops of the grapefruit seed extract topically on the MRSA sore and rubed it in 4 to 5 times a day. Within a few days the swelling had gone down and it was gone by day 10. About 2 to 3 weeks later I had an apportment with Infectious Disease and the doctor did a culture of my nose to see if I still had MRSA and "it was gone". I told her that I had used the grapefruit seed extract, she told that tea tree oil also works.

Manuka Honey
Posted by Claudia (Brooklyn, Ny) on 06/01/2010
★★★★☆

Manuka Honey helped my MRSA infection heal. It did NOT prevent an existing boil from needing to be drained in the ER.

I am pregnant, in my first trimester, and was desperate to avoid taking antibiotics. I had one MRSA boil on one butt cheek and another developing on the other. I went to an ID doctor (infectious disease) who first said to wait and see what happened. (I have had 2 other infections in the past, and an allergic reaction to Bactrim). Then, when that boil got worse, he first said, "Oh, really? Because it was just a small pimple the other day?" Then he called me back two hours later and advised me to go to the ER where they would probably have to put me on IV drugs. Next doctor! Clearly this guy didn't know what he was talking about.

I had a very smart and well-informed dr in the ER. She gave me a prescription for antibiotic (pregnancy safe) but said she would be soaking like her life depending on it and looking up natural cures.

At this point, I'd been taking turmeric for days. I was eating it first 3 tsps a day in water. Then mixed into yogurt. Then into kefir. Finally mixed in with coconut oil, which I'd mixed with freshly ground black pepper (which is supposed to activate the active compound/s). I was applying tea tree oil and soaking the boils in sometimes Epsom salt and sometimes tea tree and sometimes a mix. Nothing seemed to be happening.

The first boil, which had been drained, was healing. At this point I received my Manuka Honey ointment in the mail. I applied to the drained boil and the second, extremely tender and painful but not drained boil. I was also applying castor oil, black pepper, turmeric (and taking internally) and--finally, for the last couple days--raw garlic.

I also at some points applied Milk of Magnesia.

Many of the active oils that have been proven to kill MRSA (oregano, grapefruit seed, geranium) are not safe in pregnancy so I could not use them.

At the end, the natural remedies did not do very much for me at all. I ended up having to go to the ER to have the second boil lanced. (Why, dear God, do I need to go to the ER to have something done that a first-week med student could do with a clean knife and some clean gauze? Ridiculous.)

Then, still hoping the boils would heal on their own and I could avoid taking antibiotics, I was applying the manuka, following the directions, soaking and cleaning with Hibiclens--which I had been doing all the while, along with one-use towels, laundry separation, insanely frequent hand-washing, etc etc etc).

I developed a fever and had to take the antibiotics so that my 5-week old developing baby would not be hurt by the fever.

All in all, the honey appears to be helping the wounds heal. But I can't say I had particular success with anything else. I will continue to change my diet, take Magnesium liquid, and hit up the probiotics and start making my own kefir as soon as I'm done with the antibiotics.

Iodine

We recently had an aerobic septic system put in. The lawn people came out and were kicking up dust (because the yard was torn up) and I was on the deck. The next day, I got a golf ball size lump (boil). I think you are on the right track about something in the soil. I used an EC remedy of tumeric, tea tree oil, VCO, aluminum-free baking soda, and the contents of a vitamin E capsule. I put the paste on a cotton round and changed it frequently. It drew out the pus from the boil and I am fine. For good measure, I put some triple antibiotic on it. I then put castor oil on a cotton ball in an attempt to finally get rid of the remnant of it. The 5 ingredient paste worked very fast. It couldn't hurt to take tumeric (1/2 tsp. in 1/2 glass of water) and a Neem capsule to prevent blood poisoning for a few days.

I have had 2 cases of a MRSA infection where the doctors didnt know anything, gave me antiobiotics, and then cut and drained them. I haven't had one in 1.5 years after cutting out the majority of sugar from my diet. I take acidophilus in the morning, try to eat limited processed foods and as little as preservatives and sugars as possible. No soda, candy, chips, ect. I havent another infection and feel alot healthier.

Honey and Turmeric

Honey and tumeric mixed in equal volume applied to my big toe nail under a bandaid relieved the throbbing pain. MRSA-CA had been going around in our community. After subteaching at our school I apparently got it in the base of my toenail. When the pain started, accompanied by inflamation I used H2O2 and an antibiotic ointment to be able to sleep. Next evening it had returned, so I repeated using another ointment after the H202 relieved the pain. On the third day, worse, I came to EarthClinic and discovered tumeric and also raw honey seemed to help others, so mixed equal amount and applied it after the H2O2. A bandaid kept the paste around the base of the nail where it had first inflamed. I kept this up a week, applying nightly and also taking about 1/4 teaspoon of the mix daily. The infection died, and so did the toenail. The nail has grown back--but no more MRSA, after a year, thank God!

A friend who got MRSA on her foot at the same time took a month for the medical treatment to relieve it. The MD warned it would take a month to heal the wound but she applied some of the honey-turmeric and amazed herself and the MD that it healed in days. We have lots of problems in this fallen world, but the good Lord gave us herbs and things to solve them!

Turmeric, Dietary Changes

I want to say that the info on the site is extremely helpful. Turmeric definitely works for MRSA, as does the grapefruit seed extract, and if you have heard of curcumin, it is amazing with three capsules a day. But it wasn't until I cut the bread and sugar out of my diet that I really saw the difference. I started to add banannas to my diet thinking it would be ok(too many- 3 a day) and it gave me a breakout within 30 hours, so apparently fruit raises the sugar in the body? I would love to hear some feedback.

Possible Milk of Magnesia MRSA Cure

Hi Everyone...I have reported elsewhere on this site that I had what I thought was jock itch(tinea cruris). And I had this problem for 7 years. I tried everything -- all the drugs, creams and antibiotics to get rid of it. Even using Ted's alkalizing remedies and using ACV topically wouldn't make a difference.

But this jock itch was a little strange. Bright red skin discolouration around my upper inner thigh and genital area which went right round to the rectal area of my bum. Like I say, a little strange, perhaps this was a form of MRSA?

In the end, after reading a post by Ted, I just dabbed full strength Milk of Magnesia(MoM) all over the MRSA area after my evening shower and went to bed. It didn't sting at all but was in fact quite soothing. Then I would leave it on overnight and wash it off in the morning. This was my daily protocol. The MRSA or jock itch disappeared within 2 days, healthy skin again, unbelieveable !!

The MoM has a double action effect on bacteria/fungus. First, it has a pH of 10 -- a high enough pH to kill any bacteria, virus, fungus etc. Second, MoM is hydrophyllic -- drives away water and moisture. So the offending microbe is both attacked by the high alkalinity and, at the same time, all the moisture from within the organism is simultaneously sucked out and driven away. Result: no more MRSA.

After trying a variety of remedies, there is still a very stubborn staph infection near my right eye. I have whittled it down to two small bumps the size of bug bites with garlic, turmeric and medicated creme from the doctor's office. However, these last two marks are deep under the skin. I was reading about helping to heal my stomach cramps (from all of the medicines over the past few months) and I read licorice tea was highly beneficial for my blood type (B) and so I went searching for licorice tea and found it to be extremely good. Up at school I needed to reapply the turmeric to my eye because it was beginning to itch and burn, but I didn't have any water, only the licorice tea. Not caring at this point, I slathered it on the staph infection and instantly it was cooled and began to ease. Ever since I have been cleaning the staph with the tea instead of water and the marks have scabbed over and are clearly healing. This tea is not pure licorice, so it may not be the licorice that is helping it. In the tea there is licorice root, cinnamon bark, orange peel, ginger root, cardamom seed, black pepper and clove bud. I don't know which one of these is helping, but I am very thankful it is! I found the tea in an organic herbal shop since the general grocery store didn't carry any licorice at all.

Thought I would give update - I actually completed the entire antibiotic round given to me and the infection seemed to be under control. Once the keflex ran out, I went to the doctor for more, but he told me I was fine and to just use cortisone for the itching. I get the sneaking suspicion he was blowing me off, though the rash is still on my face but doesn't burn like before. I have a feeling it is almost gone and I don't want it to flare up again worse than before. Turmeric had gotten it under control, I will try crushed garlic to kill the rest of it off and see what happens. Quite the bugger to kill...

Manuka Honey
Posted by Karen (Willits, California) on 01/03/2010

I have to agree that manuka honey is a valuable asset in the battle. We too struggled with major antibiotics (even though 90% remedies I use are natural) only to get it again. My husband and several friends got multiple bouts of MRSA and many at a time. In the beginning it was often that several wounds would show at a time and serious deep infections occur. That is when the honey was the best at multiplying new healthy tissue. It went from 2 weeks of rebuilding tissue to about 5-6 days.

We found two other remedies that became our cure. Oil of oregano (Wild mediteranian) and Usnea tinture. At the first sign (itchy like pimple with pain) dose with 1/4 to 1/3 dropper of Usnea 3x daily. You will feel it working under the pimple. Keep this course for 2-3 days and tapper off the last 2 days at 2x then 1x. If you are not seeing results at day 3 keep up full dosage for 5 days and rest for 2. then try week 2 at tappering off by day 4 as described above. Now at the same time every day 2-3x (times) at 2-3 drops Oil of Oregano under tongue (very fiery but temporary, use hot tea or some other chaser) should be taken as a supperb immune booster. This was a way to address the wound itself before it got out of hand and boost the immune system at the same time. I have since used O of Oregano for everything. Herpes outbreaks, reg. pimples, colds, IBS, u name it. The book to read about O of Oregano was "a cure is in the cupboard"I also must add that you must NEVER SQUEEZE the spot but to stretch it gently to get puss to flow from a "ready" wound. It will otherwise implode and make many more at the site with the result of 5 times bigger lesion and more complications. Good luck, we now head them off sucessfully for 3 yrs

Manuka Honey is an absolute quick cure for MRSA. Just put it on at the first sign of a breakout. I use turmeric as well but Manuka Honey is the only thing that cures the mrsa within a few days. It can be purchased online or at your local health food store. Please try this. A friend of mine and I both have frequent mrsa breakouts and antibiotics is only a temporary fix for us. The honey is a bit expensive but it only takes a small amount of honey. You apply it like an ointment and it lasts a very long time. The higher the UMF the better. Again, do yourself a favor if you have mrsa, and try this. I gaurantee you will notice a significant change within 12 hours!

A milk of magnesia solution, mixed with 10% magnesium chloride powder, or magnesium oil should keep the pH within a good range that it doesn't get irritating. It may be used internally in the uterus area. Another one I used was 1/8 teaspoon per 2 liter bottle of water of potassium permanganate used as a wash for uterus. The normal mixture for potassium permanganate concentration is 1: 10000 concentration. 1/16 teaspoon potassium permanganate per 3 liter of water is the dose I used. Roughly speaking, 100 mg per liter is the standard concentration. In a teaspoon is equal to roughly 5000 mg. So 1/2 is 2500, 1/4 is 1240, 1/8 is 620, 1/16 is 310 mg. So the concentration is more suited for 3 liters here, but I prefer to make it slighly stronger then the 1:10000, but in general it's close enough. Most people I assume don't have a cheap digital weighing, so a standard teaspoon measure should be enough. The mixture after mixing can be used as an internal wash in uterus area. It is in general non irritating when the potassium permanganate is properly diluted here and may be used as frequently as required. As for the milk of magnesia this can be used too as a wash, but is in general drying, and hence some magnesium oil or magnesium chloride is added until the pH paper is a bit on the neutral side so it won't be too iriitating. There are other antiseptic solutions that is currently used in some studies the kill within less then a minute with MRSA when we used povidone-iodine (betadine) applied to the area infected, undiluted, of course. That's the remedy or part of the remedy that I used for genital herpes as well. The betadine may be diluted by 1/2 if it is too strong but I won't dilute it further as it is too weak. If it becomes non-irritating externally, I can used the same concentration internally too. Acai sometimes help but don't do it because sometimes they add other things to it which reduces it's effectiveness, is another possibility. Silver sulfadizine is another one they used, at 1%, but it's not easily available and I haven't tested that one yet, but i would likely used it for external application. Other things I found helpful against MRSA were benzalkonium chloride, copper sulfate solutions, caprylic acid and tea tree oil. The most interesting was the benzalkonium chloride roughly between 0.1% to 0.5% in any lotions, honey, or creams that can be applied. If of course, you can get benzalkonium chloride, you just mixed it yourself, or get some from drug stores that has the benzalkonium chloride at the concentration mentioned I found to be helpful too. The potassium permanganate solution at 1:10000 concentration can be used inside a canal, one of my friend used it to clean her uterus whenever there's an infection, itch and is used as a general antiseptic solution.

If the potassium permanganate solution at 1/16 teaspoon per 3 liters of water is too weak, i sometimes used 1/16 per 2 liter of water. Under both mixtures I don't find skin irritation for general use.

A preferred benzalkonium concentration I like is about 0.15% concentration, in case you want to be more exacting.

Again the concentration maybe increase/decrease depending on effectiveness versus the irritation to the skin it caused. Less irritating we may increase greater concentration for greater effectiveness.

Tea tree oil maybe irritating to some, not irritating to another, but if it is irritating we may dilute the mixture with appropriate oils such as coconut oil or olive oil.

I haven't quite experimented with a mixture of xylitol, or other polyol sugars mixed with the milk of magnesia, but I do know they prevent the bacteria from attaching itself to healthy skin, thus reducing the infection.

MRSA in Vagina

Ted Can You Hear ME? I am desperate, please Help! I caught a Staph Infection on my thigh, took Cipro and 5 months later 2 boils showed up on my labia and in my groin near the perineum. I went to my GYNO who did a pap and came out positive for MSRA in the Vagina. I don't know how I got it, but the boils continue to show up in the outter area especially the labia. I've tried turmeric, colloidal silver, garlic and these did not help.

I read on Earthclinic about acai berry. After drinking the acai berry juice the boils disappeared almost immediately the next day and also Milk of Magnesia applied helped them go down, but when I stop drinking acai berry, the boils come back. I have been drinking acai for 3 months just so the boils don't come back. But, how do I permanently cure the MRSA in the vagina? Is there a topical that I can soak in a tampon and insert in vagina to kill it on the inside, such as H202 or Milk of Magnesia or Baking Soda solution or even soaking a tampon in acai berry and inserting it? I need a topical solution to go inside, is this possible without doing any harm to myself? I believe in everything you say about Alkalinity. But what to do for MRSA inside your CANAL?? Please HELP ME, because No Doctors around here can! I know you can HELP, PLEASE!!!

My 18m.o. has had 4 severe MRSA cysts (diagnosed and tested by our family phys.) that have occurred primarily in the thicker tissue/fat in the legs and buttocks. After many rounds of antibiotics, we found that a silver gel (10ppm colloidal silver mixed with aloe vera gel) applied at the first sign of recurrence inhibited the growth and helped the cycst form a head and drain. Just another example of the antibacterial/antiviral properties of silver. Unfortunately cysts deep in the tissue are harder to pull to the surface. We found a new one tonight and my research led me to this site. I am going to try the baking soda along with turmeric and acidophilus.

Raw Garlic for MRSA

I have been fighting recurring MRSA infections (boils) for over 18 months now...I tried Allicin, Colloidal Silver, Turmeric, Grapefruit Seed Extract, Oregano Oil, Oive Leaf Extract, Rife Machines, MMS...you name it, I have probably tried it. Last week, I started to get another boil- it was spreading and I started a fever of 100.5...I had nothing to lose and so I crushed 2-3 garlic cloves in my garlic press, let it sit for 14 minutes, mixed the garlic then THOROUGHLY with honey and gulped it down in one swallow. Make sure NOT to do this on an empty stomach!!!! Within 4 hours, my fever broke and the redness started to retreat. After all the other things I tried and all the frustrating months, amazing that the raw garlic took care of it! I proceeded to do the garlic 2x a day for 10 days and and am now going to take it 1x a day for the next two weeks to make sure it has killed all the MRSA staph. I am also drinking Phenomenal Water. I hope this helps many people. I also want to note that I used organic garlic and raw honey.

Multiple Remedies

A combination of remedies has really helped our whole family, both supplements and topical treatments. Many of these are already listed at this website. The supplements we have been taking include daily doses of turmeric, garlic, and extra vitamin C. Our topical treatments have been colloidal silver, silver hydrosol gel, silver gel in a petroleum base and oil of oregano.

These remedies did not make the outbreaks less frequent, but as our immune systems recovered from antibiotic therapy the outbreaks themselves became smaller and smaller, more like ordinary pimples than big boils. For about two months, we have been taking supplements and treating all MRSA skin outbreaks in the family with topical treatments only.

Then one day almost by accident we discovered that homeopathic ointment for hives and insect bites helped reduce the discomfort of a developing outbreak and also seemed to make our other topical treatments work much faster. In some cases, the antihistamine treatment actually stopped the development of an outbreak. (Probably commercial products such as Benadryl or Calamine lotion will work, too). It seems as though reducing the inflammation aspect of a MRSA outbreak allows the immune system to work better.

Our final breakthrough has been the addition of really high quality probiotics to our supplements. The immune system relies on good bacteria for optimal functioning, and although our regimen above was working, it felt as though we needed one last boost to our health.

There are hundreds of brands of probiotics to choose from, so do your research as thoroughly as you can. We checked product reviews, and also forums for other ailments such as Crohn's disease or IBD. If you read carefully, you will find that there are a small number of brands that seem to get consistently great reviews by people across the spectrum. We chose one that specifically mentioned MRSA in its literature, as well as getting many positive reviews.

It seems to have been the last puzzle piece for our recovery. Each family member has seen a small potential outbreak begin and fade away all in the same day. That is real progress, the sign that our immune systems are doing what they are supposed to. We are still very diligent in our cleaning and prevention routines, but it is nice to feel more confident in our bodies' ability to recover.

We hope this is helpful to other MRSA victims.

I was wondering about non-MRSA staph infections and allicin - does it take a lower dosage or the same? I see predominantly MRSA cures, however I was wondering if the same can be applied across the board to any staph infection.

Currently I am taking a clove of garlic a day, 2 spoonfuls of manuka honey, 1,000mg of turmeric plus whatever I drink or eat with it in it mixed with cayenne pepper. The cephalexin I tried scared me, 500mg 4x a day for 10 days - I made it one day before my head felt as though it was going to explode and I couldn't breathe. I was just curious to know if I should be tested for the MRSA or what or if I should give the allicin a whirl. I am tired of feeling crummy.

Hi,

I also have trouble with nasal ulcerations, though it has not been diagnosed as staph or anything else.... When these pop up (about twice per year), they are very stubborn.

What works for me----in the shower, I wash my face (and hence nose) with pure local raw honey (if you mix with water it is kind of lather-y and easy to wash off); twice a day, once after shower and once before bed, I use a saline rinse. A Neti pot is good but for convenience I use the one that comes prepackaged (the same brand makes a saline wound wash); lastly, take a cotton swab covered in antibiotic gel and swab it liberally in the nasal passage---coat the area really well.

The scabby nose clears up within a few days.

Okay. I truly believe in h2o2 35% food grade. So, what's the best way to treat mrsa with nose ulceration?

Originally, my twin sons and I contracted this when hospitalized at Phoenix's Good Samaritan/Banner Health and Phoenix Children's Neonatal Hospital. I was told, after about a week hospitalized, that: "How do you feel that you entered the hospital completely healthy except with risk of carrying multiples to now have staph?". Clueless, I said I felt okay at the time, I was just exhausted-who wouldn't be-3 months bed rest was a pain!

Well, all the rounds of antibiotics I was aware I had was one thing, to learn my babies had rounds as well (I found out by re-reading discharge papers) shocking. Yet, a year with challenging health issues with them as well as keeping up with our 8 year old...well, left me overwrought-flat out TKO'D (totally knocked out). To this day, from at least my nostril, I have ulceration. I had no I idea that it's eating at my brain-maybe explaining my brain fogs-I get seizures but don't use meds bc they seem to increase for some reason.

I noticed one son doesn't like crusty nose and picks @ his nose and I spray it with my nasal wash (2 1/2oz good water, 2T mineral salts 1 1/2 oz h2o2 food grade). I've stopped redness & bleeding in mine. Though he doesn't like me to, I squirt his as well as our ears.

What should I do?

Honey kills staph infections

I developed Staph infection in my leg from a spider bite. It was lanced, bandaged and I took prescription antibiotics. A little while later another sore appeared. It seems the Staph had gone systemic. I took every type of antibiotic and even double doses to try and get rid of it. For a yr and a half I kept breaking out in these horribly painful sores. Finally I got on the net and looked up natural remedys. I tried honey in place of antibiotic topical ointments and immediately my sores improved over night. I put a 1/4 -1/2 tsp of honey on a 4x4 bandage after I showered and dried my skin well, then left it undisturbed for 24 hours and repeated until the sores were gone. It's been yrs since I've had an out break. When I did get an occassional sore, I'd wrap it up in honey just to be safe. I've read they are using honey in some burn units because it helps decrease scaring as well as being a good antibiotic.

One thing I found is the occurrence of mrsa boils decreased quickly after I started sanitizing laundry - mainly undergarments, towels, and wash clothes. Use 1/2 cup of borax per load. I also spray toilet seats and chairs with disinfectant as have noticed boil out-breaks where my bare skin touches the edge of seats (buttocks and back of legs). Also wash cloth belts and sanitize pocket wallets. I swear this bug is able to survive in material for a few days! Daily sups of tumeric and silver has almost stopped the outbreaks completely. When I do find a sore bump I hit it head on with deluted hibicleanse (50% water in a seperate bottle). Im now down to 1 small boil every couple of months!
