Turmeric, Bicarb Soda, Coconut Oil Paste

My 5 year old niece had ringworms on her knee (she had this one for a while, it just kept scabbing and growing) and thighs( this one was new) and I first rubbed both with lemon slice and then proceeded to rub with a mixture of tumeric, bicarbonate of soda and coconut oil (just form a paste no need for exact measurements). I left the paste on for about 10 min (please be careful with clothing, the paste will stain) washed it off and then applied castor oil on it. 2 days later the old one is gone just scar left and the new one is slightly visible but not itching. Am going to continue till all gone.

I know this sound crazy but bleach kills the bug instantly. Take a Q-tip and swab it down with bleach, it burns just a bit letting you know the bug is being killed. Cort-aid helps the itching, as it will still itch for a bit.

I have had reoccuring problems with ringworm for about 28 years, when I contracted it overseas in the military. For anyone who has ever had problems with ringworm, you know how irrating the itching and how fast the fungus can spread on your skin where areas stay warm and moist.

After using various antifungal creams off and on for many years, the ringworm would come back, and in the summer time, it would come back with a vengance.

Thank God I happened to find this website that suggested using Absorbine Jr. to address the spreading skin infection.

For the last week, I had a strong outbreak of ringworm in my groin area, and I guess I scratched it, and it got infected and started creating a hard mass under teh skin that was very painful and for obvious reasons, concerned me greatly. After reading several of your wonderful comments of using Absorbine Jr. to stop the ringworm spread, I went to my local CVS store and bought a bottle of the regular liquid with the sponge applicator on top.
I was amazed after applying the liquid on the affected areas, that the itch immediately went away, and within a couple of hours, I could actually see the angry red areas start to return back to the normal skin color.

The Absorbine Jr. did burn a bit on several areas that were pretty raw, but after fanning the area with a newspaper, the burning went away, as did the constant itching that I have had to endure for all these years.

The infected painful mass that was brewing under the skin also was smaller and the skin starting to return to normal color the next morning when I woke up, so with regular applications of this wonderful Absorbine Jr., I think I finally have located a product that will help me be more comfortable in the future. I am grateful for all the wonderful people who shared their experiences because as I type this sitting in my recliner at home, for the first time in about 28 years, I am not itching.

Ringworm Vs Pityriasis Rosea
Posted by Tatsiana (Columbus, GA) on 04/24/2009

Hi everybody - this is a great site with probably very helpful advices on how to get rid of ringworm. HOWEVER, it might not be a ringworm you're fighting! There is a very very similar skin condition called Pityriasis Rosea, and the initial outbreak on the skin looks EXACTLY like ringworm (most often it's on the chest or back). But it is not caused by fungus - that's why none of anti-fungi medication helps to clear it up. I got it about a month ago, figured it was a ringworm, started applying over the counter anti-fungul cream, did it for a week with absolutely no change in condition, during the second week I got little spots all over the body, got scared, tried to get an appointment with dermatologist, but was told that next available would be in a month or so (for a new patient), so I went to emergency room where doctor confirmed that it was a ringworm (without any tests though), and prescribed stronger cream and also antibiotic. I took antibiotics and started applying new cream which seemed to aggravate my rashes even more, they became bright read in color. That's when I found this web site, and I started trying every remedy, one after another - tea tree oil, ACV, white vinegar, nail polish, liquid bandaid, garlic - which badly burned my skin. I was thinking about clorox bleach already but skin was already burnt by garlic, so I was pretty desperate - I went to dermatologist's clinic and cried and begged they get me an appointment. I finally got to see the doctor, who took a few scrapings, looked under the microscope, and told me it was not a ringworm but PITYRIASIS ROSEA which is very often mistaken for ringworm. So look up that condition on the internet, and if you are fighting uphill battle with what you think is ringworm, you might find that you have totally different condition, which is not contageous because it's not caused by fungus, and the treatment is a steroid shot (optional) and steroid cream. I hope this information will help somebody.

I had ringworm all over my torso and upper arms. I tried all the cures I read about on this site. Finally, after 3 months of suffering and embarassment, I came across this site about anti-fungal diet. Between that and two weeks of using a topical antifungal cream..with Miconazole Nitrate 2% in it.. this was the only one that even began to work for me, I am clear!!!! I really believe the anti-fungal diet was what really did it for me, plus u automatically loose weight on it. I praise my Lord God above for leading me in that direction. You can get the antifungal diet online..its really just any meats, veggies(no potatos or legumes) and berries, green apples, grapefruit, nuts(no peanuts) no sugar (stevia only) and not much caffine. Hope this helps others.

Jock itch cream will get rid of ringworm. Just apply cream on ringworm 2 or 3 times a day and about 2 or 3 days ringworm is gone.

I just came down with some ringworm spots around my armpits about a week ago after not having it for about 10 years. I tried alcohol, peroxide, tea tree oil and apple cider vinegar and none of them did anything. It actually spread when I used some lamisil antifungal cream. It started to itch like crazy yesterday and I had to do something quick so I bought some Absorbine Jr from CVS for $9.84. I bought it this morning and put a qucik dab of it on each ringworm spot and it burned like h#$* for the first couple of seconds but then the itching soon stopped. It's been about 5 hours since then and I can see the difference already! It hasn't itched since I put it on and it is already clearing up! This thing is really working. Anyone with ringworm must use this!!

Liquid Bandaid With Tea Tree Oil

I I had a small spot of ringworm on my wrist that I tried treating with iodine and antifungal cream while keeping it bandaged. Neither worked, and in fact the ringworm spot just got bigger. So, I got a no sting, liquid bandage spray at the pharmacy. This spray also has tea tree in it, but I added about 2 cc's to the .61 fl oz spray bottle. I sprayed the ringworm 2-3 times a day, adding a second coat when the first was dry, and made sure I sprayed a large area around the spot as well. I then covered the entire spot with a regular, non-stick bandage. After 3 weeks of other treatments that only made it spread, I saw a major improvement in just 2 days. In a week the spot had faded to nothing, but I kept treating it for an additional 2 weeks, and it's never been back!

White Vinegar

My Grandmother would always cure the family's ringworm with white vinegar and a penny. She would soak the penny in a cup of vinegar over night and then place the penny on the site with a bandage. The results are amazing in that the ring worm would began drying the same day and the itching would almost cease immediately. I reminded my brother of this remedy when my niece had a ring worm. He stated that he soaked the penny over night but only applied the penny periodically ( no bandage) and it worked just like always! Thank you grandma!

Hi, I think that vinegar works - white vinegar so the sugars are low. you dont want the sugars to feed the fungus.. also consider what is on the inside that is trying to come out.. the fungus.. this area of your body and so forth. use the vinegar as many times as day as you are able. dont think that just becuase the skin softens that its dead .. use it till its completely gone and afterwards. I also suggest to sun the ringworm. meaning go out in the sun and let the sunshine help to heal and dry and air it. something like that..

Absorbine Jr for Ringworm: Tried ACV, Tea Tree Oil and H202 as often as possible. Up to 5 times a day on each spot. Took away the itch, but didn't seem to be getting rid of them at an efficient pace. I made the thirty minute trip to get Absorbine Jr. and I'M GLAD I DID! I put it on at least twice a day. Once in the morning and once at night. I do it more often when time allows. A few of the spots have completely vanished. The rest are fading. Earth Clinic came through yet again.

Dab Mercurochrome onto Ring worm with cotton tip, do this daily for two weeks, careful of staining fabrics. If this fails, use laundry 'Blue Bags', wet bag or block and rub on affected area forming a little paste, leave to dry, will wash off when bathing next, reapply.

EC: Mercurochrome is no longer sold in the USA as of 1998. Great article: http://www.straightdope.com/columns/read/2518/what-happened-to-mercurochrome

Misdiagnosing Ringworm
Posted by Misdiagnosed myself (Nashville, TN) on 02/23/2009

I diagnosed myself with ringworm after I showed my scaly patches to friends and family and two of them said definitely ringworm. So as with anything, I skipped the doctor and started looking at Earth Clinic! (how much money have I saved over the years by coming here first?) Unfortunately I wasted a few days on your readers' suggested ringworm treatments... My diagnosis was incorrect, I actually have Pityriasis rosea, which is a virus and just has to run its course, apparently. If you think you may have misdiagnosed your ringworm, put "Pityriasis rosea" into google images. As soon as I saw the pictures I knew it was me. This rash feasts on areas that have never had much sun: breasts and butt for women, butt for men.

EC: "Pityriasis rosea is a common skin condition in children and young adults. It usually begins as one large spot on your chest, abdomen or back and then spreads. The rash of pityriasis rosea often sweeps out from the middle of your body, and its shape resembles drooping pine-tree branches." Source: The Mayo Clinic

White Vinegar

I have had ringworm for about 3 weeks now. I can't seem to get rid of it and have no idea where I got it from. Its absolutly disgusting. I have tried every cream possible, and nothing is working to stop the itch. I have used tea tree oil, and that seems to dry it up. I finally decided after reading many stories that vinegar helps fungus to use white vinegar. It stopped the itching, made my skin clear, and I think it killed that nasty mess on contact. I have been spraying my carpets and shower with vinegar and water mixed everyday to keep further fungus from coming near me. I hope this helps someone else with ringworm.

Shampoo Brush, Coconut Oil

Robyn, my four year old had ringworm on his arm and black walnut tincture from the health food store has cleared it up in less than two weeks. As far as your daughter, are you chemically straightening her hair or pressing it? I was a stylist for many years and saw a lot of what you are describing. What I would say is go to the beauty supply store and get a shampoo brush. When you shampoo her hair use the brush on her scalp with light pressure in a circular motion. This will stimulate scalp circulation. Also coconut oil applied to the scalp overnight and before any straightening will help clear the dry patches. If you find the coconut oil is too heavy, try sweet almond. if you are using petroleum jelly on her scalp and aroud her hair line this could be causing the little bumps. Hope this helps.

21 Month Old With Scalp Ringworm: My 10 yr old son had dreadlocks for 6 yrs of his life. Once we cut his locks, we noticed that he had ringworm. So, for the past 4 yrs, we've been going back and forth trying to get rid of these things. They never have spread to any other part of his body...I've had good results with the hydrogen peroxide, apple cider vinegar shampoo and the tea trea oil, lavender oil, and sweet almond oil conditioner; however, my younger son (21 months) has recently had a few circular spots on his hair (short hair)...I began with the same thing I'd been doing for my son last night. Also, my daughter has scaly spots on her head every now and then, but if you go to scratch them, they come up very easity and the skin looks healthy underneath the scaliness. I don't know if thats related to what the boys are experiencing. She also has a few little bumps around her the front of her hairline. I use the acv on her head every week--she has very long thick hair. We're african american. But I was wondering if I should do something more. I don't know if it is now systemic. We don't use any other supplements, etc. Please help us!
