Sulphur

Got rid of the durn things but got re-infested by the automobiles so got to start from scratch again. Just a word about the post-treatment itching. I had it bad after permethrin treatments. Found out it was because I was so allergic to the eggs laid under the skin. Sulfur helped stop the itch immediately. I purchase it cheaply from a bonsai seller and used 2 0z mixed with a thick hand cream as a salve. It kills them critters as well, but smells and can stain until it gets dry. Can be mixed with body wash in the same concentration for showers. My husband recently bought the lime sulphur dip for dogs and it is full strength. I have 4 long haired pomeranians that are the dickens to treat safely. I hope to try the enzymes on them. Now, someone please tell me how to gain everyone's FULL co-operation in treating these vermin. One member of my family has threatened to shut me up permanently if I mention it again and he is covered with them all over his back and spreading them. Woe is me.

Scabies

My son got infected. Don't know how. Despite the warnings to treat everyone in the house, I only had my son taking the Borax baths. Well, now I'm infected, my other son, and my mother who does not live with us. I am going to start bathing everyone twice a day. But I wanted to report I saw two fresh welts on both my hands last night and began itching so I got a spray bottle and mixed warm water, borax, and peroxide. No measuring just pouring in, but you can't put too much borax because it will not dissolve and spray out. Itching stopped immediately when sprayed on. So I sprayed the kids down also. Usually there would be a bump left in those spots. Woke up this morning...no bump! Also, the itching in the morning would normally wake the kids up early in the morning. Every one was sound asleep!

Try this. My spray bottle was 8 oz so I'd say approx. 1tbs of borax, 1 tbs of peroxide, and 6oz of warm water (you need room to shake the botte to mix) Shake well the borax has to dissolve.

The runs could have been from the epsom salts, as they are magnesium, which can cause diarrhea if overdosed.

Borax, Hydrogen Peroxide and citrus-based dish soap:

This is similar to others, but it's real good if you've been having a hard time getting rid of those things even with the borax/hydrogen soak. Here's what you do:

wash/dry on hot all lining.
* Mix 1 part borax and 8 parts hydro-proxide.
* wipe down all pillows/mattress using a wash cloth and borax/hydro mix.
* sprinkle borax on carpet. leave on carpet until scabies is 100% cured.
* mix 1 part borax, 1 part citris dish soap, 1 part water in a bucket.
* take a shower. Stop the shower and use a wash cloth to scrub yourself with the borax/citris mix neck to toe(no running water or sitting in water, just your damp self). leave on for 10-20 minutes or as long as you can stand it - it will sting and it will leave your skin very dry.
* wash borax/citrus mix off and finish your shower.
* replace lining and go to bed.
* wake up and apply borax/hydro mix to all areas of your skin that still itch. let it mixture dry on you.continue to do this throughout the day as needed.
* repeat all steps until all those creatures die.

IT WILL WORK.

when we were kids, we moved to a house that had a old couch, my brothers and i, all got mites/scabies. over 30 years ago, my mother treated us with plain old petroleum jelly mixed with sulpher powder. had to strip down to nothing and put it liberally all over the body. keep it on for at least 8 hours, she told us it suffocated them. no more itch. no more bugs. threw away that couch and taught us not to climb all over old furniture that didn't belong to us.

DMSO, Hydrogen Peroxide

scabies is cured!!

My mom and I hd been fighting these scabies mites for 4 years now. Came from chickens she bought from a farmer. We tried everything, and thank god for earthclinic and Ted's recommendations, but still no permanent cheap relief as I was unable to treat the beds and get em all killed. After spending $3000 on a sleep number bed,I couldnt just replace it. However--My mom called me up and told me that spraying hydrogen peroxide solution on herself all over killed the things. I had found it at walmart listed as non-chlorine bleach with a pink label. I tried it and was a little disapointed, maybe 70% results. I figured I had not treated everything in my house properly. Also, I was reading about DMSO. I read where the DMSO goes deep into the skin and you had better be clean where you apply it or it will take the dirt down deep with it. So, I mixed 3/4 cup DMSO, 1 cup water and 1 cup peroxide bought at wal-mart into a spray bottle. Its called non-chlorine bleach with a pink label next to the regular bleach. BINGO, instant kill rate even below the skin. I had to treat the really big spots for a couple of days until they dried up. Now I had the perfect spray for me, my bed, my car, my long haired dogs. Its a miracle. I recommend treating your whole body every day until you have no more spots as they will crawl out of a small "kill zone spray" if you dont add enough DMSO. I put in less (1/4 cup )DMSO and it didnt kill as fast, but still killed em. No smell either. Been 3 weeks now and on those in my family who used it, it works great. I have one family member in denial. however, even so, I can still treat his stuff without the big fight over the smell of the sulfur I was using.

Bleach and Water
Posted by Itchy And Scratchy (Dull As Denver, Usa) on 01/20/2012

Bleach and water is for sure the way to go for instant relief. I mixed bleach and water 4:1 ratio aprox, and noticed that my itch had subsided almost immediately! How awesome is that?! Also the second time I treated my skin this way I added about a tablespoon of olive oil to the mix, this seemed to lessen the harshness of straight bleach on exposed skin and open cuts from scratching. Thank you for the advice people of the internet! I love you all!

Update 8/18/2011. Just discovered last night that clove oil kills the adults, larvae, AND penetrates the eggs and kills the eggs too in less than an hour. Read the latest research on this from Australia. This was just discovered last August - go here to read about the study results http://www.plosone.org/article/info:doi/10.1371/journal.pone.0012079. They had a serious virilent strain of scabies that was Permithrn resistant.

My husband has been under a Dermotologist's care for 3 weeks now and he was prescribed Permithrin twice and still has only killed about 10 percent of them. Me and my son are finally getting relief from these awful things. The ratio we started with is 1 part clove oil and 3 parts coconut oil. Also, put 1/2 ounce in a spray bottle filled with water and sprayed the entire house - EVERYTHING!!! We put it on us last night and didn't feel them crawling all night, plus all day today. Tonight I notice a few, but nothing compared to the night before. I've read that when the last bite is gone and there is no more itching, you must wait 10 days after this to be considered cured. But, must keep up with keeping everything clean (new sheets every day, etc. As I indicated in my process above) for at least 3 months to prevent a reinfection. I'll keep you up to date on our progress, but for now, we are feeling like we are finally out of the worst of it! I know the Lord helped me to find the info we needed to get set free from this awful stuff, also so that I could share it with so many of you who have suffered for way to long with the disgusting stuff. God Bless!

Essential Oils
Posted by Rp (Usa) on 06/05/2018

Just wished to add that yes, certain essential oils are effective, though how to use them can be confusing, and using them in too strong a concentration or pure, can burn the skin.

After experimenting, I found that diluting with a carrier oil worked, but diluting with Aloe Vera Gel or liquid was much more effective and almost instant.

Bathing in the epsom salts and borax as Ted mentions is helpful, but a rapid solution is to:

Mix together:

1 1/2 - 2 cups of Aloe Vera Gel and adds

2 drops orange oil,

2 drops peppermint oil,

3 drops, clove oil,

and 2 drops tea tree oil,

mixing that liquid in a small tray or container, then while you are DRY standing in the shower/tub (so the solution is not diluted by water on your body) apply that with a small face cloth, dripping on top of one's head, covering every single part of your body systematically. Rub it in and you will see them leave (and yes you can see the adult form). Continue to rub that in and after 20 minutes rinse your whole body.

Repeat the above process immediately again. (and a 3rd time if you are still seeing them leave but it will probably not be necessary).

Of course, as Ted has instructed, cleaning up the environment as noted throughout EarthClinic so as to prevent reinfestation is very important. But at least you will feel normal again and they will be gone. I would repeat the above process (one application) a few days in a row, and once a week while continuing to clean the environment, vacuuming, etc.

There is hope and natural treatments definitely can eradicate scabies. There is no doubt! Hang in there!

I saw plenty of scabies on my pillow case..They are white but some aren't that small..I picked one off my face trying to burrow into my skin and it was pretty big..When the bug has human blood in it, they turn black..I have a white tiled shower and I've seen them on the floor so you are wrong, they are visible..I've been using cello/sticky tape along with sulpher, to run it across my eyebrows, face, body, pillow cases and it is the only thing I found that works ..Almost clear of them after nearly 4 months ..Your hair dryer also comes in handy..Run the nozzle across your hair daily to catch the one that hide in your hair.

My daughter's dog I believe has some kind of mites. Saroptic mange. He is loosing his hair big time. Constantly scratching etc. For over two years I have been to doctors trying to find out what has been biting me. I have treated for scabies, fleas, bed bugs etc including my home. Every time I go near the dog I come home with bites. I used kwellda for scabie mites and ended up with bites in my ears and eyebrows the only place I did not put kwellda lotion. I was fed up paying the large price for all this stuff that did not work I was surfing the net and came upon your site of remedies for pets and decided to try borax and peroxide. I put one bottle of 10% peroxide and a good third of a box of 20 mule borax and soaked for at least 30 mins. After doing this 3x I no longer itch, all the bites are healed with no more inflamation around them. And best of all my skin is very soft and has more glow. The sad thing is that all the Doctors are not believing that you can get mites from your pets if they have them.

About the mites on the dog -- try covering the dog with mayonaise!!! Leave it on as long as you can before rinsing it off. After rinsing I like to shamppoo the dog and rinse with vinegar and water. The dog may smell like a salad while wearing the mayo, but the mayo suffocates the mites. We run a dog rescue and take in babies with all sorts of skin ailments, and this works like a charm getting rid of mites. Lots of people claim dogs with mange are incurable - well, the mange caused by mites is taken care of with mayo every time.

Chamomile for Scabies – In France, equal parts of fresh chamomile leaves, olive oil, and lard constitute a popular remedy for scabies. It is said to effect a cure by the 3rd application, to instantly sooth all irritation and not to give rise to any secondary affections. (Bazin).

Vaseline and Sulfur for Scabies

Sulfur is the cure for scabies! Into a small bowl I mixed four level tablespoons of yellow sulfur powder with about three tablespoons of baby oil until smooth and then I added one large 15 oz plastic jar of Vaseline or some call it petroleum jelly and I stirred this together very well with a small spoon. When it was well Incorporated I put it back into the Vaseline plastic container and yes it all fit nicely. I set this on my bathroom sink and twice a day morning and night I smeared this on my body and rubbed it in well. I even put it in my hair and covered my pillow with the towel so I wouldn't stain it and slept very well that night, no itches no crawling. The next morning I took a shower with sulfur bar soap and even my hair. I had to wash my hair several times and yes it was a gooey mess but who cares as long as it's killing these things right? This stuff works miracles and from then on I've put it on twice a day and it said to do it for one week. You do not have to wash it off only once a day if you feel like it and I think this was key into killing them bastards. I kept myself covered with it and yes you can leave the house and you can't see it on you nor did I smell it. Anyway this stuff will kill it and this is how you make a sulfur ointment. That's what this stuff is called. Before that I used body lotion with the sulfur but it did not work the same as using Vaseline and it did not kill them therefore this is why I went to making the sulfur ointment using Vaseline. Just makes your skin feel great also.

I stumbled onto something and got reading the reviews on the not-the-Nile site. It's called Nu-Stock. It's a sulfur cream and has a lot of high reviews for its intended purpose which is for horses - or just animals in general. Mange, cuts, scrapes etc. and, apparently, anything for which you could use it topically. But it also has some reviews for external use on people. I got some but didn't have anything to use it on.

It's pretty messy. Actually, it's VERY messy but you could easily squeeze it all out into a jar and mix it that way. It would be a lot less messy, too. I think it's in a tube so ranchers and horse people can just toss it in their kit/tack bag or glove compartment and such but you could definitely transfer it to another container. You'd want to really flatten it to get it all out so the ratio would be maintained when you're mixing it up. I think those who had trouble with it didn't mix it up and just got the oil that had separated when they tried to get it out of the tube.

NOEL, ORH here, I got mites several years ago and nothing worked until I read that hi heat will kill them. Put all clothes a bedding in a plastic bag and washed in high heat. I have a sauna and got in it twice a day at 160 degrees. You right in that you can kill the adults and the eggs re-infect you. Thus it takes time to get them all. I was corresponding with a guy in England and he killed his with a Rife Machine. Scabies and mites are both parasites. Heat will kill them. I also had a ointment that I coated my skin with to prevent then from getting oxygen. When I get into trouble, I throw the kitchen sink at the problem and sometimes do not know what solved my problem. Just know that you must keep you clothing and bedding in plastic bag and wash daily in hot, hot water. ====ORH====

There is a new super scabies that is nearly impossible to get rid of. Thank God I found earthclinic that told me about borax…..gone in a week. A pinch of borax in my drinking water sipped for four days then borax in my bath and also for laundry. I still take it now and then when I get reinfested. Best remedy for pets with the super scabies or fleas as its a natural insecticide. It also balanced my hormones as a side benefit and gave me regular periods at age 50.

I made the Ted's Dog Mange Recipe, and it looks like a watery rinse. Am I supposed to sponge this all over me and then air dry and leave it on all night? From the original author's post about the 50/50 borax peroxide left on her husband's skin all night, it seems like she is saying he used only borax and peroxide (no water) at a 1:1 ratio to make more of a paste and leave that on. My husband and I have been suffering from scabies since early November. We got a couch from some family and within a few days of bringing it home noticed we were breaking out and itching bad. Neither of us have ever had them before or known anyone who had them. We finally broke down and went to the doc. They prescribed the cream for both of us but unfortunately couldn't afford it as we have no health insurance. I started searching the Web and tried everything possible and nothing worked.

Finally tonight I gave up and we tried the bleach and peroxide bath. I put 1 cup of bleach and 1/2 cup peroxide in a full tub of water as hot as I could stand it. As soon as I sat down I felt instant relief. The itching stopped immediately and I could feel my skin no longer feeling like I have things crawling all over me. I soaked for 20 min then got out and air dryed. I have also used the same amount in a spray bottle and sprayed all my furniture and bed.

Will continue to do this and hope they go away.

Try adding neem oil half a tsp to shampoo and conditioner.

Neem is effective against bugs. Warning it is stinky so use a shampoo with scent. I use a natural citrus shampooo as citrus oils are anti bug.

Additonally take neem capsules. The oil is toxic internally but not capsules. Also buy d-limonene capsules. Orange oil is used against bugs. I used both of these recent bout of some kind of mite and eradicated problem.

You can also try Diatomaceous earth. Use as a mud pack on scalp. Most bugs hate it. You can also dust your scalp with it, then wear a shower cap over it at night.

I also found dog shampoos with Peroxide, Micronized Sulfur and Salicylic Acid very effective. I used one from Pet MD. It is unscented, and gets into hair follicles and scalp well! With shampoos you can add neem, tea tree, sulphuric etc. leave on as long as you can then rinse.

If in scalp I forgot to mention.

Try this blend borax powder, d - earth, neem powder. Get a powder shaker from Amazon and dust your hair a scalp. put shower cap on and wear as long as possible.

I had mites from somewhere, and did take ivermectin. My doctor said its one of the safer drugs out there and has long history.

It does work, two doses three weeks apart to kill baby mites.

Now any of these treatments will not work if you don't launder your pillow case and sheets with borax hot water and high heat. Same with combs, brushes, towels. You have to be a maniac.

Yes, a pinch of borax in water helps too with neem powder capsules NOT the liqud which is not safe to take that is only for putting on skin, or in shampoo. It stinks as bad as coal tar shampoos.

Clove Oil
Posted by Scabiegone ( Massachusetts) on 04/23/2015

So it's been about a week since my last post regarding clove oil.. So far it's one of the best things to use to subside the itch and move forward with your life. Unfortunately I've been reinfected. This morning after waking up and feeling itchy again I decided to take another shower. Every day before I use a towel to pat dry I look at it to see if there is bugs on it and low and behold, I saw about 10. So, I finally took this opportunity to put them separately in a glass so I could test which of my solutions kill them fastest if at all. Long story short.. Windex!! First I tried Diatomaceous Earth and let them crawl through it, waited 15 min but they were still moving. Then let clove oil touch them, then a few repellents containing permethrin, then witch hazel, and I'm sure a few others I'm forgetting but ammonia (Windex) killed them in under a minute. Although I was thoroughly enjoying making these things suffer. So now, on top of my clove oil/permethrin/orange oil mixture in lotion and spray form, I now have a spray containing ammonia, mint scented alcohol, and equal parts water so it doesn't melt my skin off. These bugs do travel too.. My daughter who shares just about everything with me, has yet to have one bite but across the room she found one of her shirts with two of the mites just sitting on it. At that point after finding so many (15) in less than an hour I'm now in serious clean mode again while spraying everything with this ammonia solution. I will report back with my findings or other cure I've found. I also plan to try to find the stuff from Sweden that was previously mentioned. Good luck.

You can see some species of Demodex with the naked eye. There are far more than the two that doctors mention [brevis and folliculorum], and they ARE host switchers, you CAN get them from animals.

You can also see Cheyletiella parasitovorax with the naked eye, and they too can host switch to humans. Doctors tend to disbelieve this, but ask a vet, or a professional pet sitter, or a pet rescuer. THEY know.

So yes, some mites can be seen on towels and clothing. Please don't kick people when they're down, it's unkind and totally unnecessary.

We got mites from a dog we picked up. I used mostly bleach and a little hot water. I had the bleach as strong as I could stand it and sprayed it all over my body and let sit for five mins then washed it off. Word of advice - don't scratch while bleach is on you. It burns really bad if you do. Not bad if you don't scratch; it has a light sting to it but the next day I was seeing results. My daughter had it from head to toe and I sprayed her down let it sit on her skin for about five mins then had her get a shower. Same thing I saw results the next day. We did that for three days and it's gone.

WORKED TEMPORARILY

My boyfriend and I have been attempting to treat scabies at home over the past 2+ months. We have tried borax and hydrogen peroxide baths, borax scrubs, benedryl, and topical hydrogen peroxide, hydorcortisone and witch hazel. All of these may bring some sort of mild, temporary relief, but definitely not a cure. We are still suffering with the underlying symptoms and signs of small red and clear fluid-filled bumps, intense itching that is often worse at night, and even open sores and bruising likely from incessant, mindless itching.

I have researched and would be open at this point to prescription medications, but most resources state that complete recovery is not often achieved even with repeated doses and I am not willing to use pesticides without the guarantee or even a high chance of success. Please help us find a way to put this misery behind us; we welcome any advice, tips and hope from your own similar experiences.

I used the Permethrin, which for all I know eventually worked. But I was still itching (never scratching) like crazy, and the bumps/rash was disgusting and showed no signs of diminishing.

I tried the Hydrogen Peroxide/Bleach/Water bath. That was good.

But I really started to notice improvement after spraying the quarter-sized rash (with several tiny, satellite bumps) with bleach/water (1 part bleach, 1 part water). The rash was on the inner wrist, where you feel your pulse.

Spraying it with the diluted bleach always made the itching go away (I don't know how). After a couple days, I saw visible improvement. I thought it might have been my imagination, but I was pretty sure it was diminishing. Now I'm absolutely sure it's diminished, because I can barely see it anymore.

Many reviewers here have recommended washing everything in sight...washing clothes, etc. I washed my clothes and sheets once, and tried to clean up the place some, but I honestly don't think it's crucial.

I understand the constant itching drives you mad, so you probably overreact and spray every inch with bleach. And I suppose that's a good thing, but in my experience, treating the affected area is good enough.

Maybe a bleach/water bath also, just so you get every inch of your body...after all, Scabies can only thrive on the human body.

I am SO glad this is gone. I was staying inside almost every day because it was disgusting...looked like a cluster of miniature grapes. When I went out to run errands, I wrapped bandages around it...couldn't see the rash, but then I looked like a suicide victim.

this is what worked for me after going batty. for me no symptoms for a month so thought I was clear. permethrin made it much worse, severe reaction. mine didn't look like internet pics at first so hubby and 1 doc didn't diagnose; pediatrician wouldn't let us in her office but did diagnosis positive. both docs gave Rx. Tea tree oil worked for my son.

dyna gro neem oil hot baths, kleen free spraying after baths, tea tree oil or kleen free dabs on itching

1 use linens, towels, clothes and extra 30 minutes in dryer for wet laundry; only 30 minutes for clean laundry/ linens (takes 20 minutes high heat to kill the mite and dryer cools down the last 10 minutes of cycle).mite proof mattress and pillow encasements- Bedical brand

massive cleaning of course, storing lots of extra things especially fabrics, dehumidifier especially in the storage room,

after treating for a couple of weeks and extremely dry skin (humidity keeps them alive so didn't want any lotion) started using grape seed oil with tea tree oil after bath and continued with kleen free spot spraying through day. This and the guided imagery was such a relief.

** Listened to guided imagery- was critical for resilience and physical healing- I fell asleep to it- free at kp.org/listen podcasts for immune system, stress, pain, sleep.

steam cleaning (a real hot steam cleaner, not just hot water), carpets and upholstered furniture, dunked the cat in a Kleen free bath (which she took in stride, pets can carry them like a rug even though the mites don't bite them) and DE powder (with masks because of superfine powder can aggravate breathing even though it's non toxic) on carpets and places we couldn't steam clean right before leaving for vacation for a week (I believe I was scabies free by then and just suffering from side effects of Rx, super hot drying baths, etc, but brought new mattress encasement and my own bedding, furniture covers and cleaned with kleen free)

also used sulfur and mineral soap and shampoo on myself and son, but not sure how they figured into cure

I'm very fortunate to have been able to afford all these things, and lucky our vacation timed with needing to get out of the house. If you can't do all of these I'd say to: use clothes and linens once only before cleaning or drying, 30 minutes drying already dry linens and clothes, storage of extra things, dusting and vacuuming your butt off, kleen free and dehumidifyer, and the Free guided imagery. Tea tree oil hot baths (Radha is good quality and value on amazon) and sulfur soap worked for my son but not me. I also drank Lots of water and more veggies, vitamin C

sending love and wishing you and yours health and comfort

Borax and Peroxide Scalp Treatment
Posted by Jane (Freehold, New Jersey) on 12/27/2013

I have scabies which spread to my scalp and would like to try the saturated borax and hydrogen peroxide treatment on my scalp. Please tell me what amount of saturated borax is mixed with the peroxide. I would appreciate the measurements for all the ingredients i.e., saturated borax, peroxide and water. Also, how long does it stay on? I would like to keep it on my scalp overnight. Please advise...thank you.

Hey Earthdweller,

Google "Turpentine scabies" and you'll find a lot of information on the use of turpentine "baths" to kill the little critters. Caution; only one cap full in a whole bath. More as you can learn to tolerate higher doses. Also google "healing with Turpentine tony pantalleresco youtube" and he has an extensive description of the very old medicinal uses of turpentine...uses that go back a hundred years.

Also there is a powerful substance you can use on the skin called Cedarcide made in Texas that kills about anything but won't hurt a person or animal. Apply to skin and I bet it would work on mites too. It will on larger mites, so why not the microscopic ones?

I think it was our own Robert Henry that reported good results w/ hot sauna trnt along w/ other stuff. Read his reports as I think he finally killed the critters.

The roundworm trnt drug Ivermectin, if I am not mistaken, is also indicated for parasites such as mites, scabies, etc. It is available in mostly liquid or paste and may work topically but it may do to try some also orally.

HI U EARTH DWELLER, , , , , , , , , ,

Great that the sulfur and oil protocol is working for you. Pet lovers have told me that this is an inhumane treatment, and I needed to move into the 21 century. Funny, I thought I had.

I buy mine at Tractor Supply. If you want the dr to give it to you, then you need a prescription.

Multiple Remedies

Dear Mary,

I too thought I had scabies and for three months spent a fortune trying to clean everything, and washing sheets and everything I touched continuously. I went to the hospital twice and my doctor and they all said I had scabies. After three months of this and treating it with the prescription they gave me. I also read on Earth Clinic the accounts of others plagued with this horrible curse. I finally went to the hospital again and told them if they could not get rid of this thing that I was going to have a breakdown. The doctor that saw me said that he thought that I did not have scabies and sent me to a dermatologist. The dermatologist told me I did not have scabies...I had eczema. He gave me a prescription of a cortisone type cream and in 4 days all my symptoms were gone. I have never had any kind of experience like that again. Before you have to move go to a dermatologist first. My heart and prayers are with you.
