I have frequently been rerouted to an add that takes up the entire page when clicking on links. is this specifically a google issue?

EC: Hi Diane and anyone else experiencing this issue,

So sorry about this.

We are working to fix this issue and contacted Google a couple of days ago about it as well since none of our current fixes are working. It is only an issue for Safari browser users on desktop computers. If you have another browser on your computer like Firefox, try that one... you won't have an issue. We'll keep working on it until it gets figured out.

Apologies again!

Good morning!

Earth Clinic is starting a new environmental site called HABITAT by Earth Clinic, which we are very excited about and think you will be too. Please help us choose a winning logo by marking a 5 star by any logo that you LOVE. This logo contest ends tomorrow, so you can check new designs later in the day. Thank you so much!

Hi everyone,

We have A TON of great replies to questions on Earth Clinic's answers.earthclinic.com site so I have recently decided to start duplicating/reposting some of these fabulous posts that I come across during the day on the main site, so more people can find them.

You'll see them pop up on the Latest Posts page. They will have old dates on them (like the two just below this one on muscle cramps and sprains). Just FYI when you see them.

Latest Posts, Latest Answers
Posted by Earth Clinic on 12/16/2020

Hi Everyone,

As you may have noticed, pages on Earth Clinic can take a very long time to load. Today we figured out, after the site was running particularly slowly, that we have too many databases pointing at the Recent Posts page, which is slowing the entire site down (answers.earthclinic.com and ted.earthclinic.com). To fix this, our fabulous programmer has separated all the Latest Posts sections.

Please make sure to click on Recent Answers because that's where all the new Q&A posts will be. We have 16 new replies from our newsletter just in the past couple of hours in that new section instead of in the Latest Posts section. Sorry that you have to click on another section to read posts, but now the site loads much faster!

You can find the links on the far left corner for desktop computer users under "Recent Activity".

Yes, I am having problems with Google ad as well. Very frustrating.

EC: We may have fixed it last night. Please try again.

Hi Susan,

Thank you for the feedback. We have received a bunch of emails about this issue today.

Google recently rolled out vignette ads for desktop users and it appears you can't close some of their ads. This is happening to many websites, not just EC, so we need to alert them to the issue.

Also, we have a separate folder for mobile users. It's great except that things get complicated when we're trying to send people to a particular post instead of just an article.

We will look into both issues. In the meantime, if anyone else is having issues with those google ads, please add a reply to this email

We've had Google ads on the site since 2002, by the way. We were one of Google's first ad publishers if you can believe it!

Those ads have helped pay for the cost of the site, writers, moderators and programmers over the years.

My email goes to a FULL PAGE AD which I do NOT see anyway out.I do not see an "X" to exit. The email to me about sea salt and lungs I did not read anything about sea salt on the page it sent me. Your emails are messed up. Please check into this. "google ads.g.doubleclick.net" I enjoy reading your web site, But this is really irritating. I did not see a different email address to write you about this.

On the Latest Posts page the Editor's Choice icon (Lugol's Iodine for Covid-19 Fri, 23 Oct 20 10:07:26 -0700)

is layered above the menu. It floats on top when you scroll through the menu and covers the links.

Also if you click that post's link it takes you to the post, but opening and closing the menu brings you to the top of the page instead of back to the post (which is at the bottom of the page).

EarthClinic is one of the best looking sites on the Net. That logo is *perfect* :) The blue and green combined with the black and white. The sans serif, no caps... The little white dude with the arrow. Whoever designed that it is *sweet*! The little leaves embracing the Earth....

EC: Thank you so much. We appreciate the alerts!

Yes, noticed that about the Editor's Choice floating at the top today too. It's on his "to do" list.

We've had that exact same logo since 2008, by the way! The font changed 2 years ago, but nothing else.

The search box does not work on this page:

EC: Thank you! It's the top search on every page at the moment, so we'll get it fixed asap.

I love your site. it was so easy to use, but now you changed the format and it is so difficult to find the information needed... Hope you pay attention to this the next time you make changes! Have a nice day!!!

EC: Hello, thank you for the feedback. The programmer made changes to the desktop design yesterday, so hopefully it will be easier to find menu AND the 2 most popular categories, ailments and remedies.

We need to stay current and update the design from time to time, sorry!

You're welcome again, EC, and thank you again, too. Also, when I tried the mobile version of the website—I apologize for not trying it before—I noticed that the link to Ted's archive is invisible.

EC: Thank you! We will get that fixed soon!!

Thank you, EC, and you're welcome.

Regarding the link to Ted's archive, it seems that three w's and a dot became added to the front of ted.earthclinic.com, resulting in a broken link.

EC: Thank you so much, once again, J!

Fixed!!

Works great here, too. The "Pets" menu can be moved up a line, the ad at the bottom covers the text. There is plenty of room between menu options making clicking the right item easy. You could eliminate the extra space between the menu headers and preceeding text, even. It all looks very clean and tight. Really nice.

EC: Thank you for the feedback! Glad it's working now.

You're welcome, EC.

The menu background and menu text are now visible when I use the same laptop and the same Web browser that I was using previously. I apologize for twice posting this additional feedback; I discovered your reply after having filled in the contact form a little while before. On both occasions of trying to see the menu, I had been clicking the menu icon shaped like three blue bars.

Thank you for taking care of that matter. In case the programmer can benefit from additional information about my Web-browser settings, I have had JavaScript enabled on both occasions that I tested the menu. Also, I have had a browser add-on called NoScript enabled on both occasions.

Regarding the section of the Earth Clinic website dedicated to Ted from Bangkok's observations, might a link to ted.earthclinic.com be provided in the menu?

Thank you again!

Sincerely,

J.

Java is enabled. I'm using the Chrome browser. The menu still displays nearly invisible white text on a transparent background.

🌞

EC: Thanks for the update. Can you check now? We made some changes.

Dear Earth Clinic Staff:

Thank you for administering the earthclinic.com website. Regarding the new menu, when using a laptop computer, the menu background and menu text are invisible. When I then press the key combination Command-A (the Mac equivalent of Control-A on a Windows computer) to select all content on the webpage, I can see some hyperlinks in the form of white text. That selected white text is scattered amongst the rest of the content of the webpage, making the white text difficult to read.

It is possible that there might be other people using older computers with older Web browsers that cannot render menus such as the new one at earthclinic.com.

Also, the webpages of some websites have layouts such that large portions of the tops and bottoms of the webpages are taken up by horizontal bands of content. Those such webpages appear to be suited for large monitors with large screen resolutions. For the people who aren't in a position to acquire such monitors, using smaller monitors with lower screen resolutions results in very little space in the middle of the screen for viewing the content of the webpages.

Thank you for asking for feedback. Your consideration is greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

J.

EC: Hello, J.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write us. We will send your comments to the programmer and see what can be done to fix the issues for older browsers.

To be clear, you are opening up the menu by clicking on the 3 blue bars at the top of the page on the left? Those 3 bars are a standard menu icon these days to accommodate different screen sizes.

We have tested the site on all browsers with using a laptop computer with a 14 inch screen and the menu displays perfectly when it is opened up. Earth Clinic (and most sites that are updated regularly) works best when the browser is up to date with javascript enabled.

Thanks again. We will be in touch!

Sexy new header, but the menu is fabulously invisible ;)

EC: Did you view on a desktop computer? Mobile devices show a different menu that we haven't updated.

So far, comments have been favorable from Facebook posters re the new dropdown navigation menu.

Hello everyone, just wanted to give you a heads up that today we are upgrading the navigation menu at the top for our desktop users. Instead of the horizontal line of titles under the Earth Clinic logo, you will click on the large 3 line icon on the top left side. From there, you will find the same sections but in bigger font, and MUCH EASIER to read.

The new clean logo area before you click on the 3 blue bars on the left.

The menu that pops up after you click on that button.

The drop down menu that appears when you clear on the person icon:

As always, we would love to get your feedback after we go live!
