Hello fellow sufferers! I have a gout attack in my left foot on the bunion side. I take organic ACV with mother 1 Tbsp. plus 1 tsp. baking soda in 8 oz. Water 3x a day. Also, two 4 oz glasses organic tart cherry juice.

For the extreme burning, broken foot type pain, I take 2 curcumin capsules, 3x a day. That's the healing pain relieving component in turmeric. Get the best brand you can find at the health food store.

It started on Sunday night when the pain woke me in the middle of the night. Next day I was limping and the pain increasing. I started my regimen. By Wednesday night I woke up almost crying in pain. I started doing EFT tapping. That's where you tap on various facial and hand points. I did this for about 15 minutes and then I fell asleep.

The pain went from a scale of 10 to a 2. At NO time have I taken a OTC painkiller. It's now Friday. I slept like a log all night. The sheet did not hurt me. I can now walk with a bit of a limp because the swelling has not totally receded.

Lots of water, 64 oz throughout the day. Mind what you eat and drink, no alcohol.

I don't know what caused this. I think it was severe stress over the past 2 months. My diet is home prepared. No nightshades, no gluten, no sugar, a bit of white wine. No shell fish, a small steak the other night which has never been a problem.

I feel much better today. Not 100% but getting there. Perserverance helps, and tinkering with the amounts and dosages because everybody is different. Do try the EFT, it works for stress big time.

Best of health to all, Victoria

I have been getting bouts of gout in one foot or the other for 10 years now. I am 49 years old, 6 foot 2 inches tall, weigh 155 pounds, am a field geologist and have been a health-nut and runner for most of my life. From that you can see that gout can hit thin guys too. My gout (like most peoples) gets more intense and lasts longer every time I get it....or at least it used to until I figured out what to do. I tried Allopurinol but the stuff is nasty times ten. It left me itchy, fatigued and with terrible joint pain knees/back/hips/elbows/ankles. I now take a bunch of herbs and supplements that would take too long to name. They seem to keep me gout-free but I do get it around the holidays (too much eating/drinking)....I have gout now in fact, but it came on today and is already easing due to the following regimen.

The essential herbs/supplements for maintenance are: bromelain, stinging nettle, turmeric, quercetin, vitamin C, vitamin B complex, vitamin e, garlic, cherry juice or pills, bilberry, boswellin, amino acid complex, pantothenic acid, hawthorn and devil's claw. The bottles will tell you what a safe doseage is. All of these supplements either help dissolve UA crystals or help repair the damage that the gout just did to your joints. Make sure you eat potassium-rich foods (potatoes, squash, pears, apples, bananas, yogurt and lots of berries of any kind and grapes). Drink lots of water per day and mix it with cherry and pineapple juices. I drink over 1 gallon per day...but I am usually pretty active.

However, when gout hits you (usually while you are sawing logs) you have to take more drastic measures. The ACV idea works but I have a variation that will usually work within one day.

Here it is:

4 ounces Apple Cider Vinegar, mix with 16 ounces of tea made from boiling 2 tablespoons celery seed in 2 cups water...mix in 1 teaspoon baking soda (alkalines are good when acid crystals form), mix in 1/2 cup pineapple juice, 2 tablespoons of lemon juice and 2 tablespoons cherry concentrate. The juices help break down uric acid crystals and make the concoction bearable. Drink at least four 8 ounce glasses per day. Do not eat protein, nuts, meats, fish etc until the gout breaks. Stay away from yeast-based products, especially beer and red wine (rats....I love my beer). I hope it works for you....gout delivers the most intense pain I have ever had....I fear it...
