Alkalizing pH

Baking soda is making my pH go down?? It was at 6,2-6,5 before. After taking baking soda (5-7,5ml 3-5 times per day) it's 5,5-5,9. How is this possible? I've had this experience multiple times. My diet didn't change. I always measure first thing in the morning. I'm taking so much I should easily be reaching pH 7 which is my goal.

Cure for indigestion, nausea

After reading all the cures for flu! Using bicarbonate of soda, I wanted to add, that whenever I have bad indigestion or feeling nauseous, I take 1/4tspn bicarbonate soda dry on tongue, and swallow with cold water....cures these things within 20 mins....my dad told me of this years ago! Great cure!

I have redness in the corner of my left eye. I have had it over a year. My eye also produces and lot of sand and grit. My left eye always feels tired even after just waking up I read about adding 1/8 teaspoon of baking soda to an 4 ounce glass of water and splashing it in my eye and drinking it. After doing this, almost immediately, my eye felt better! Can't recommend it enough:)

Severe Indigestion and Acid Reflux

I have been using Bi-Carb regularly for about 20 years with good to great results, I get severe indigestion and Re-flux. Drinking alcohol, water, eating basically anything whether it is meat, wheat products, sugar products, if it enters my mouth it gives me indigestion and Re-flux. I'm not a glutton, in fact I eat very little, I am a T2 diabetic so I shy away from the sweets, and I mean anything sweet, no soft drinks, I eat a little fruit and probably 1 slice of bread per month, I do eat 1 biscuit per day with coffee for lunch, but that is my lunch.

I would say my worst "habit" is potato but even that isn't as much as it used to be. 3 glasses of beer per week is usual, 1 Friday night, 1 Saturday and the same Sunday, an extra one if I'm cooking a BBQ. My problems started with a dose of "Hydrogen Cyanide" poisoning while working as a plastic fabricator. Many Doctors and Nutritionists have tried to help over the last 30 years and all have given up.

I could go on forever on things that have gone wrong with my health, 5 years ago I had a fairly severe stroke which I'm still having problems with including Dysphagia which only added to my stomach problems, BUT where here to report on the side effects of what you Americans call Baking Soda, We in Australia call Bicarbonate of Soda or Bi-Carb. To me Baking Soda is a mix of Bicarbonate of Soda and cream of Tartar, a different product, so that may need checking out. I love Bi-Carb, I have 1 teaspoon in water (since 2008 we have used distilled water) I use that 3-4 times per day (mix a 250 ml glass and drink 1/3 - 1/2 and leave the rest to have if and when I need it next.) and as I said that happens multiple times every day and sometimes at night also. I carry a small container with me at all times as the indigestion can be uncomfortable up to debilitating. I used to have a heaped teaspoon in a glass and drink the lot... I'm not sure if my stomach is improving or it's just my effort to use less, but honestly, I have never ever had a problem taking it internally or using it externally. (That's another story.)

Gout, Fibromyalgia Pain

I had gout in 2005 lasted 6 weeks before I went to the Dr. he said it was gout. Wrote me a script. NOT MUCH was on the internet back then about home remedies. On a DEEP DIVE I saw someone charging for a cure. I kept searching and found it FREE!

Backing soda and water. YES!! FOR ME in 3 days of twice a day, 1 level teaspoon in water morning and late afternoon fixed 6 weeks of horrible pain in 3 days!!

Another time few years ago pre KETO way of life I was suffering from horrible Fibro pain, worse EVER! Finally went to the Dr she said its my new normal. I said NO WAY, I will surely die!! SO going home defeated, I remembered the gout pain years before. I realize after searching you can get gout everywhere. SO I tried my home remedy. THIS TIME it took a little over a week of 2 a day baking soda and water. IT WORKED THANK GOD!!

I then started Keto way of life, I don't care what anyone says, for me gout is from lots of carbs, like starches and sugars and grains. Since being KETO I do fall off the wagon sometimes but over all my body fibro and CFS issues are WAY BETTER FOR ME! GODSPEED everyone.

Baking Soda Cleaning Tips

Use baking soda to clean your stove top. I had bought a new stove, white and was told to keep it new in appearance and clean without scratching to clean with baking soda. Worked wonderfully, just sprinkle on and clean with water and rag. My stove looked new even years later when I sold it.

Hi JP, I mix the baking soda with a small amount of coconut oil and smooth that mixture on my face. It exfoliates without making the skin dry.

Yes I agree about brushing. I make a paste of coconut oil, baking soda and oil of peppermint. It is absolutely the best for body and mind. Very cost effective too. My mouth is so clean. Wish I would have known way back. Unfortunately have lost many teeth that I would give just about anything to have back.

I recently tried baking soda under arm as a deodorant and I gotta tell you, it is fantastic. If I knew about this years ago oh life would have been so much better as I had struggled with commercial deodorants that didn't contain aluminum, which were hard to find in the past and they don't work ANYWHERE as good as baking soda. Just one point - I apply the tiniest amount to dry underarms. I don't use water. It lasts for days I tell you! An absolute god send!

Have you tried rubbing baking soda onto your nails, directly after a shower when your feet are still wet? Do this twice a day for a month.

I heard egg whites help with burn, your skin will regenerate faster. The sooner you apply the egg white the better the healing would be.

Just a note on using oils as a face moisturizer. I started using organic cold-pressed (all oils you use should be) coconut oil as a moisturizer. I have used sesame oil in the past. I have oily skin, so need to be light-handed. The best way to apply oil is wet. If your face is wet and your hands are wet (sometimes I just wet my hands under the sink if I've already dried off and forgot to apply) the oil won't go on so heavy. I pat my oiled, wet hands on my neck and chest first which can handle more oil, then pat my face with my now only very lightly oiled hands. Then I pat my face with a towel to dry and absorb any extra oil. This has always worked well for me and I don't get any breakouts.

High Cholesterol, High Blood Pressure

For those with hypertension, you must only take potassium chloride, or pot ash, found or ordered in by some pharmacies. That will not give you hypertension, and will be safer to take if you do have HBP.

Editor's Choice

I started suffering from allergies as an adult.

This season, allergies hit me about six weeks ago. Every year I go to the doctor. Every year she says the same thing: "This year is going to be the worst year when it comes to allergies." I get prescribed the same medicine, which doesn't relieve me of the the symptoms.

This year, I suffered the normal symptoms. Stuffing noise, tearing eyes, excessive coughing and a lot of phlegm.

Last week I started drinking about 4 ounces of luke warm water with a tablespoon of baking soda (sodium bicarb). All of the above systems have stopped. I haven't felt this good in weeks.

Basal Cell Carcinoma
Posted by Rsw (Oh) on 03/14/2016

Hi Barbara,

In the FWIW category, I saw a woman on another site who had diagnosed BCC, had it removed and it reoccurred. A Dr. friend of hers told her to take 250 mg. of Niacinimide every day. She did and it slowly went away. She now takes it everyday to keep any further BCC away, and she says it works. It might be something simple to try. Best wishes.

BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS

I was recently found to have BASAL CELL CARCINOMA on my nose. The day before Christmas 2015 had a biopsy which showed cancer cells. I treated it 50-50 with baking soda and coconut oil daily, covered with a small plaster.

Each evening, I cleansed it with APPLE CIDER vinegar and applied an antibiotic cream to promote healing.

Febuary 15th 2016 had a piece removed for testing and there was no CANCER there. Unfortunately, the hole left in the side of my nose is now being reconstructed, Hopefully worth the pain to prove it worked.

Baking Soda Teeth Abrasivity
Posted by Myway (Usa) on 01/31/2016

In an effort to stop the misinformation about the abrasive nature of baking sodan on teeth, I found the research data on the RDA (relative dental Abrasivity) for common dental toothpastes and baking soda. From this chart, it can be assumed that baking soda is greatly LESS abrasive then everyday commercial toothpastes with a rating of "7." Here is the link....

http://c2-preview.prosites.com/131248/wy/docs/131248_rdh sheet.pdf

Some person on this site had stated that baking soda was abrasive to teeth......grrrrrrr. The studies are clear...it has low abrasivity!

Let me go brush my teeth.....with my baking soda, coconut oil, frankincense tooth polish - diy of course!!!!!

hi, maybe there is no instant gratification, and I don't think that she has to study for ten years, that sounds kind of mean and harsh and a little arrogant.

Be advised that baking soda, no matter what kind, does NOT have aluminum in it. However, baking POWDER does.

Bacterial and Viral Infections
Posted by Om (Hope, Bc Canada) on 10/04/2015

Hi, Robin (North Carolina @usa)---

Yes, baking soda will improve the general condition. One half tsp. plus one tsp. ACV to fizz and half a small glass of water.

For your skin condition use colloidal silver on a cotton ball for half an hour at a time. It has cured mine. The doctors are right; they cannot cure it but other systems can.

Namaste, Om

Bacterial and Viral Infections

Hello Robin,

You might consider Colloidal Silver. Silver kills viruses. You can get CS at health food stores or on line.

CS is merely ions of silver atoms. It is water with silver atoms in it. Ideally one cannot even taste the silver because it is in such very low concentration. I used it topically and orally. I take a few tablespoons three times daily. And if needed I apply topically. I also use the herb Echinacea for topical used and use drops in water orally to boost the immune system.

Bacterial and Viral Infections

Hi, Thank you for this very encouraging post. I recently was diagnosed with Pityriasis Rosea which I have learned is a viral infection for which there is no immediate cure. I've been told by doctors of medicine and dermatologist alike that I simply have to let it run its course. I am horrified as it continues to ravage my skin with angry, itchy red bumps and lesions. I have begun using coconut oil and castor and showering with Zinc soap to hasten my recovery and of course and paying better attention to my diet to support my immune systems ability to fight this horrible infection. I'm wondering if adding Baking Soda to my natural remedy regime will support and hasten my recovery. Would love the community's thoughts. Thank you so much.

Baking Soda Bath for Sickness
Posted by Mama To Many (Tennessee, US) on 03/07/2015
★★★★★

My six year old had a stomach virus this week. He is normally a high energy guy and was down for days. None of our usual "go-to's" for stomach viruses were seemed to knock it out. (Turmeric, charcoal, peppermint, black tea, Apple Cider Vinegar, essential oils.) Perhaps he would have been worse without these things, but I was surprised he was down for so long. I offered him a baking soda bath a couple of times, knowing it helps one of his siblings to feel better for at least a while whenever she is sick. Finally, yesterday, I told him (kindly) that he really needed to try a bath. I made him a comfortably warm bath with a cup of baking soda and 1/4 cup of Epsom salt. (With the diarrhea, I didn't want to give him to much magnesium (Epsom Salt), but thought he probably needed some! ) He played in the bath for 20-30 minutes. He was perkier when he got out. He ate dinner. Today he is back to himself and even wanted to take a little hike with me.

Baking soda or epsom salt baths seem to always give at least temporary relief to acute sicknesses. Sometimes they seem to be what is needed for the patient to turn the corner. I will make a bigger effort to try that earlier in the game next time around!
