Well I must say I was a bit hesitant to try castor oil on the eyelids, but to my surprise it worked! I've used sleeping pills for years, now I'm cutting back on all the chemicals in my body and I never felt better. Thank you EC for all this great info.

I have been using Castor oil on my face for 20 years and have never had a problem with facial hair growing.

Hi Tricia,
Congratulations, and thank you for letting us know how the castor oil has improved your skin. I have a question regarding the usage of castor oil on the face. I have read that castor oil promotes hair growth. So doesn't castor oil when applied on face promote facial hair growth? What was your experience?

Warts

I had great success with castor oil and baking soda. I believe it is an old Edgar Cayce remedy? You add enough castor oil to baking soda so that it makes a thick paste (to where you can roll it into a little ball like gum) and put it on the wart. Cover with bandaid. It took me probably a month or so for it to work, but I was not religious about appplying it every day. Sometimes I would forget for a few days.

About the last week (when I could see that it seemed to be dying) I got serious and applied it every day. I think if I had applied it around the clock (instead of just for 8 or 12 hours) it would have disappeared much quicker. I had had that wart for about 10 years (between my toes). I had tried just about everything- over the counter and a foot doctor. I thought that wart and I were going to grow old and die together! After 10 years I was so thrilled to finally be rid of it!

Side Effects

Hello everyone, I have tried the castor oil four times now and every time I use it my eyelids swell so bad I can't even see my eyelashes. The first time was on my eyelids for the purpose of better sleep. Boy what a mess, I was to go to a funeral the next day and my eyes looked like I had been crying for a week. That perticular brand was only for topical applications.

So I bought the kind you can use internally. Same thing happend, and by then I had read a post here that it was good for wrinkles so I put it on my whole face. I saw a difference the next morning and was pleasantly surprised, but disappointed because of the swelling. Well I must say I must be a glutton for punishment, the last time I used it was just around my mouth. I really didn't think my eyes would swell since it wasn't anywhere near my eyes. Wrong. The bad thing is they stay swollen for two days. Guess I must be allergic to it, unless anyone has any other ideas what's wrong.

Heating Pads

Actually, your body heats up the area on purpose, as many infectious agents don't do well at high temperatures (they don't do well at low temps either, but neither does your own body) A feverish area is good, as it means that your body is doing what it is supposed to. Also, while applying a hot pad may increase inflammation in the short term, in the long term, you will be better for it.

After reading many articles on the wonders of castor oil, I have started using castor oil (neat) to spread on my face. My goal is to improve my sun damaged skin (large brown spots and red around the nose area). I am also acne prone although it's been much better than when I was a teenager. My skin is so greasy you could fry an egg with the amount of oil that comes off it by the end of the day. I have been using Proactiv for years and it works for the acne but leaves my skin dry and oily at the same time!

Anyway, in only three days, the castor oil has already smoothed out my skin, made it LESS oily and seems to have dissolved the flat skin tags that I had on my cheeks near my nose. After cleansing (still with my Proactiv cleanser) and toning with alcohol-free witch hazel, I put the castor oil on my cheekbones (where the brown spots are), around my nose and on my chin. I massage it in for 5 minutes to work it in, then pat the excess off with a Kleenex. I do this in the morning too and wait 10 minutes before putting on makeup on my face. My pressed powder seems to glide on now. The makeup stays on my face ALL day with only one touch up necessary in 10 hours! My skin looks AIRBRUSHED! This is only after three days!! I'll be trying the Oil Cleansing Method next. I want to give up using commercial cleansers altogether.

Castor Oil Use during Work-Out

A few months ago I decided to experiment and apply Castor Oil to my face, neck, torso and legs before starting my work-out. I figured since I sweat profusely the oil would absorb into the skin as the pores opened up. I find that it does completely absorb into the skin with the exception of my legs. They feel tacky since they do not sweat as much as the rest of my body. I do not use a towel as I would normally do to dry my face and neck as I begin to drip, instead I rub my hand over the area as little as possible but as needed because I do not want to rub off the oil. Clothing will get stained slightly but tends to come out in the wash because it is watered down with sweat. To be safe, do not use "good" clothing. I work-out (jog) at home not outside. Getting greased up to go outside may not be a good idea although by the time you are finished there is no grease to be seen. So start making your work-out do double duty with the use of Castor Oil or any other oil for that matter! I have not noticed any benefits I just do it because the oil is good for the body in general. I agree that castor oil is an amazing face oil. I have been using it as a night-time treatment for nearly two months now. I use a tiny amount which I thin down with a few drops of almond oil which makes it easier to pat onto the skin, since castor oil has a thick consistency. I have also noticed that my eyelashes are growing longer!

Yes, castor oil is amazing. They don't call it the palm of christ (palma christi) for nothing!!! I have recommended it to several friends for shoulder problems and other joint problems and they were amazed too! Also I have an old pet rattie who is dying and rubbing it on her abdomen has given her comfort and allows her to sleep and relax better. I also use it on my face and body - it seems to actually make my skin firmer! And any time I feel under the weather I do a castor oil pack on my abdomen or neck or both and by morning I feel great!!!

I've had very sore knees due to being overweight. For the last few days I could barely walk or put weight on my left knee... About a month ago, I bought some Castor Oil and and was using it for my face (wrinkles etc) and I must say, it's just fantastic... Last night I could barely sleep due to the knee pain so I tried the Castor Oil on my knee.. I massaged it in for around 5 minutes and went to bed... This morning, I woke up almost totally pain free.. Apart from a slight pulling sensation at the back of my knee, the severe pain I was suffering with for days, has gone... I'm not only gobsmacked but still gingerly walking around as if it's going to erupt at any minute.... I can't thank this site enough and the information it offers... It has been a God send.... I am going to use the oil on other parts of my body as well whenever I feel tension or pain... I'm still shocked as I write this.. Thank you to everyone who asks great questions and others who give such informative answers, especially Ted... God Bless you.. Karen

Dry Eyes

Hi I have been using castor oil on my eyes lids with warm compresses, it seems to be better but if I put in my eye it makes my eyes red in when I wake up, I read about sterilized no preservative castor oil eye drops that compounding pharmacy can mix together. I think sterilized drops is important so you don't end up infecting your eye. Anyhow my dry eyes are slowly getting better! I've also increased both Vitamin A and 25, 000 I. U. Of beta-carotene as well as fatty acids. I also read the of the B vitamins is important in treating dry eyes, but vitamin B6 aids in the proper absorption of magnesium. Magnesium assists the body in producing a hormone called prostaglandin E-7, which is necessary for tear production. I also take Vitamin C and D3. Apparently potassium is considered the most important mineral for dry eye symptoms, potassium is usually very low in dry eye patients. This is usually linked to low intakes of folic acid, vitamin C and vitamin B6 along with high sugar consumption. You can take in at least 500 mg per day by increasing your consumption of fruits and vegetables (one banana contains 400 mg). Anyhow perhaps this information will help someone else who is suffering from dry eyes.

I LOVE castor oil!!! Its a miracle oil!!! I use it for EVERYTHING. Does not work very well as a laxative tho, however, It does relax you, and I usually take a long nap after drinking it. Its wonderful for injuries, and painful muscles, strains, sprains, etc.

Dry Eyes

I have been struggling with dry eyes all my life. I have always found that if the air is a little too cold or windy, my eyes immediately begin to water uncontrollably. I tend to wear mascara and eyeliner etc, so I would always have black under my eyes which was also rather embarrassing. I would also find my eyes would get red and start stinging in these situations. I heard about people putting a couple of drops of castor oil into each eye before going to bed. I tried this myself. The first couple of nights it can sting a little, but disappears when your eyes are closed. After about a week, my problem disappeared. It also made THE WHITES OF MY EYES WHITER, AND THE BLUE MUCH BRIGHTER! ! ! My eyes now look like my 1 year olds pure, sparkling eyes! Fabulous! My EYELASHES ALSO GREW THICKER AND LONGER within that week. Your eyes naturally have an oil layer. This helps nourish that layer of the eye. You can buy eye drops that are very costly, but the main ingredient in them is castor oil anyway. Save yourself some money and buy castor oil!

I thought I would comment on my use of Castor Oil. I had a small cyst under my skin beside my left eye for about a year. A few weeks ago I started rubbing one drop of the oil on the cyst. Sometimes it would get in my eye, but it didn't hurt or anything. Within two weeks I noticed that the cyst was gone. I couldn't believe it. I had read on this site about Castor Oil being good for sleep, so every time I put it on my eyelids I sleep better that night. I have also read that Castor Oil is good for cataracts. My 12 year old peek-a-poo has cataracts so I'm going to try the oil in his eyes, if I can get him to hold still long enough. I love Castor Oil and I love this site.

it takes longer than a week... maybe a month or more. keep applying nightly and also use a method of exfoliation like baking soda or apple cider vinegar daily or at least weekly. also stay out of direct sunlight so you don't keep getting more spots. the spots will lighten with each layer of skin that comes off and if you don't create more spots by sun exposure - eventually the skin that replaces the spotted skin will be spot free.

Cajun, please tell me exactly how you used castor oil for your age spots? I applied it for maybe a week, covered with a plaster, day and night and it did absolutely nothing.
