I found that methylene blue works great for chronic fatigue. It was like someone hit my on switch. My energy level and thinking improved drastically and I was easily able to give up caffeine. However, the reason why methylene blue was able to work so well for me is that my chronic fatigue was due the fact that methylene blue treats mitochondria damage, and I have mitochondria damage from taking Cipro. Never take Cipro.

Methylene blue is from an aquarium supply shop or online. That is how I buy ours.

Ted here on earthclinic says that to balance and treat fish and tanks it must be high quality and effective. I have found this to be true. Janet

Nadine,

Here is how we do it. We use that brand. The bottle should have powder in it. I fill the bottle to below the rim with spring or distilled water cap it and shake. Do this on a paper or glass plate it stains. Citrus cleaner or lemon removes stains. In a two oz. Dropper bottle I add 4 stoppers of the concentrate then I add water to that carefully it loves to overflow leave room to put dropper back in. It makes .01 % solution. Then you can use whatever your remedy calls for. Do not forget to add c with it when you take it. Janet

Edward,

If you are concerned about the quality of the methylene blue you are considering using for your mom, you can purchase it through a chemical supplier like Sigma Aldrich where they will have a certificate of analysis, a spec sheet and a certificate of origin so you know exactly what you are buying and its purity. It will cost a little more and won't be as easy to get, but you know exactly what you are getting.

http://www.sigmaaldrich.com/catalog/product/sigma/m6900?lang=en®ion=US

Another option is to speak to your mother's doctor about it and see if he/she will write a prescription that can be filled at a compounding pharmacy to your doctors specifications.

You will have to do some research on your own to get a better understanding of how MB may be helpful for neurodegenarative diseases and what dose would be best in your mother's case. MB has a good safety profile and probably a very good safety profile at the dose your mother would likely use.

PD has multiple forms and one form is directly associated to longer term pesticide exposure while others do not have this association. Some progress slower than others.

In the mean time, you might look into vitamin D as it relates to Parkinson's Disease. There are many studies available on PubMed that suggest that the population in general is low on serum 25 (OH)D, but even lower among people with Parkinson's Disease and that the lower the serum 25(OH)D, the worse the symptoms. A couple of the studies go so far as to say that the proper serum level of 25(OH)D may slow disease progression and help protect neurons in the brain.

There are many supplements that show benefit for people living with PD. I am currently compiling a lengthy list of about 50 of these supplements and gathering information on them trying to see which ones are most likely to have actual benefit in humans. Many supplements have only been tested in rodents and consequently would fall lower on the list. It is a work in progress and will take me sometime before I am finished. Having a very good to excellent safety profile is a very important consideration for me because that will improve the odds of having a doctor approve a supplement for a patient.

The topical magnesium oil is frequently noted for helping to relax stiff or cramping muscles in PD and is readily available at many health food stores and on the web. It also has other health benefits and can build up the bodies supply of magnesium while limiting the potential for diarrhea.

There are many supplements that show potential to be of use in PD, but you'll have to do your research and determine what will be compatible with for your mother.

In any case it is important that you get approval and supervision from your mother's doctor before using any supplements to make sure that they are compatible with the prescription meds that she is taking.

You have to be able to think outside the box.

All of the questions you asked can be answered by doing some online research. I've been an EC devotee for many, many years, but I never stop doing my 'homework'. I read, read, read *everywhere* online.

With natural remedies, quite often, there isn't a real answer to 'why' something works--it just does.

Hey,

We always vet products with independent testing. Here's the test result for the current batch of methylene blue: https://www.bluebrainboost.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/methylene-blue.pdf

It's over 100% when it's more pure than the reference sample from Sigma Aldrich. The actual purity is probably between 99-100%.

There was some research on using Methylene Blue to treat Hep B. I believe it was 70 mg twice a day. I cannot remember the pharma company that did the research. However they were unable to get a patent on it so dropped the human studies. Only downside was that the Methylene Blue causes blue pee.

Methylene blue was used in WWII in high doses to treat infection. Also look for information on the Blue People of Kentucky. Those people were taking several hundred mg a day for years without harm.

The correct dosage of 0.1% Methylene Blue is in the range of 6 to 15 drops(in a solution of vitamin C) once or twice a day dependent on your size. You can take this dose twice a day, but you should never take it after about 3 pm because of its energizing effects.

You should always take MB with at least 1000 mgs of vitamin C in water in order to avoid its side effects -- Taken just on its own, MB turns your urine green and the whites of your eyes blue because it stains carbohydrates blue. Other than that there are no side effects. I've taken MB with Vit C for 8 years and what you will also find is that it will give you an energy boost and wake you up due to its positive methylation effects on the body.

You should never take MB in the evening otherwise you might have difficulty getting to sleep because it is so energizing. Other than that, I've found MB easy to use and very useful against pathogens.

The dosage that is advised here is relatively small and very safe. In the 1960s they used to give the US troops in Vietnam MB by the spoonful to help recover them from malaria.

I bought MB in 2.303% concentration. If I divide 2.303 by .1 =23.03

So, does that mean if I add 23 drops to 1 drop of the 23.3% that I get .1%?

I know someone said to put it in a gallon of water. How much 1 drop? Isn't that 200%?

As you can tell, I am not understanding this AT ALL!

Please help! Thank you!

Hi Pankaj...I also use Methylene Blue bought from an aquarium shop. This also has no spec showing the percentage MB in this solution. But, generally, all Methylene Blue sold from aquariums is at 1% strength.

So what I did was just to assume that it was 1% solution.

The way I now take Methylene Blue with water is like this:

Say that I want to take 5 drops of 0.1% MB solution.

For five drops of 0.1% MB I first add 1 drop of 1% MB to a glass of water. This is equivalent to 10 drops of 0.1% MB.

Then I pour half the water out of the glass.

So you are now left with 1/2 drop 1% MB or 5 drops of 0.1% MB in solution which is your dose.

Usually, I take about 10 to 15 drops whenever needed. Always add or supplement at least 1000 mgs of Vitamin C with the methylene blue solution -- the vitamin c stops your eyes and urine turning blue. MB is a harmless stain that is also used in science to identify carbohydrates by turning blue.

Contaminated Methylene Blue
Posted by Chickkie (Chelmsford, Ma) on 07/25/2014

I found out the hard way. Methylene blue is sometimes deliberately contaminated with arsenic, possibly to prevent us from benefiting from a safe effective product. The type I bought had a warning label not to be used in food producing fish. I called the store I bought it from, they said it did not have arsenic. This was a lie.

I suffered greatly from severe arsenic poisoning. I wish there was a way to be sure the source was pure, because aside from the arsenic, methylene blue was great stuff.

I was taking Methylene Blue (12-13 drops in 8 ounces of water) with a thousand milligrams of vitamin C for about a week & I noticed the severity of my candida related itchy skin was reduced, I then upped my dosage by a few more drops per day (14-15 drops) in about 9-10 ounces of water, and a few hours later my stool was loaded with dead candida overgrowth! I normally have bad constipation but this time my "relief" was smooth and easy I was amazed. Also, I use the Methylene blue stain directly on my skin where I have itchy candida rashes, yes it stains! But only for a few days & most of it will wash off with soap and water, so use it where it cannot be seen, and it will take you itchy rash away with relief within 10-15 minutes and the relief will last for like a week, until the bugs send out a new invading force! I have also use Methylene Blue in more diluted parts for itchy skin in more visible areas with relief & I found it is also good for tooth aches.

P.S when I take it in strong doses your urine turns blue for about a day, but when you stop taking it it turns back to normal & I take vit C 500-1000 mill and have had no problems with my eye coloring, which I also heard is reversible if you should happen to have that happen to you.

@Fiona: Good to hear of your benefits w/ therapeutic baths. I suppose you are suffering from a fungal infection, you didn't elaborate on your illness enough.

Anyway, it would seem wise to also take baths in major & trace minerals occasionally as to prevent depletion or imbalance of minerals. I use the hot tub chlorine once wk and mineral plus borax occasionally. These definitely help w/ my fungal issue. I also add a squirt of povidone iodine which would help in several ways. I add several drops of liquid iodine to my jug of drinking water. I do occasionally add a few spoons of the MMS2 to the bath but can't report any major improvements.

I have used Methylene Blue for orally and a bath. Orally taking made me feel better shortly and then I got depressed shortly. Ever since then I use it for bath. I realized it colored blue much darker on impure cells. And then it fell off. I had bad breakouts but the grip was very strong. I painted methylene blue on top of the affected skin. A few hours later it would lose the grip and fall off. I have been using for bath about 2 months. It gave me much better brain function and also it helps me peel off dead skin much more faster and effective and skin becomes whiter and pinkier and a lot firmer.

I think using MB for bath almost gives no side effects. Very safe. I am planning to use it as long as I live.

If you had some bad reaction on using MB such as depression I would recommend using on the biggest organ that human has. Which is skin.. If you start detoxing skin, the overall toxic load on the body decreased. I really think a bath with methylene blue gives so many healing properties.

On top of methylene blue, I am using MMS2 which is pool shock (calcium hypochlorite) I believe orally you take this and see yourself what is coming out of your body. Extremely powerful yet cheap.

After suffering 35 years, and researching I found out the healing power is not according to the price or wellknown drug. I believe you heal quicker than the disease spread, then you are on the right track.

MMS2 is very powerful it cures AIDS or Lyme etc.. you can read about mms on Jim Humble's website. When you detox, the body uses up so much iodine. Make sure you take enough of iodine.

I had tried methylene blue for my brain fog, lack of energy and achy joints, etc. I've been told I have Fibromyalga or Chronic fatigue. I didn't get any great results.

After further study I feel I have Lyme's and overgrowth of those little critters: Borealis bacteria. I urge you to read (google) all you can about Dr. Lee Cowden's protocol. He is doing medical studies using certain herbs and detoxifiers to kill off these bacterial invaders. This is probably the root cause of your problems. This info has changed my life, hope this helps anyone suffering from strange symptoms the medical doctors can't figure out.

UPDATE; Four months of Methylene Blue.

It has no effect on chronic fatigue - doesn't give me any energy; also doesn't keep me up at night if I take it right before bed.

There are two areas where it seems to have worked magic: Cysts and Anxiety; as well as other benefits for insomnia and problem solving.

It did clear up my long term liver/kidney/diaphram/intestinal cysts, and for that, I am very grateful. I stopped taking it for about a week, and the pain radiating from what used to be the most painful cyst began to return, so I am sure this is what fixed them, although I have no idea why it came back and whether to continue taking MB indefinitely.

Anxiety: There's something about MB that fixes my generalized anxiety. It's fairly miraculous in that regard. I did not take it for anxiety, but I notice an improvement (almost total resolution) when I take it. As a result, don't need xanax. Again not sure whether it is safe to take indefinitely for anxiety.

Along with the reduced anxiety, it helps me to focus more on problem solving. Not a complete resolution but a definite improvement. I have chronic fatigue related brain fog, and it definitely gives a boost in that department so I can see why it is being used successfully in Alzheimer's patients.

I think I am sleeping better -- deeper sleep, not getting up so much in the middle of the night, because of the MB, which is huge because I've lived through 25 years of insomnia. Used to take RX sleeping pills of various kinds (4-5 days per week) but not taking them anymore.

When I first started the MB in Feb 2013, I experienced significant tingling in my head (felt like brain buzzing). I was taking several milligrams of melatonin per night, and drinking coffee during the day. Both of those were a problem while taking MB but now, after a few months, I am able to drink a regular cup of coffee now and then with no adverse reactions. I also take a much lower dose (1. 5 mg) melatonin with no side effects. For some reason, tea creates no problems.

MB had no effect on yeast/candida, herpes related virus, or fungal infections.

Other than occassional "brain buzzing", I think MB may have a negative effect on vision (blurrier, esp at higher doses). It MAY have a positive effect on acne but I've been taking a skin/nail/hair formula as well and think it is because of that that my acne has improved.

I am taking 3-5 drops of 0.1% per day.

Perhaps E.C cross post this to Anxiety/panic attacks; and intestinal cysts.
Benni

EC: Bennie's latest update has been cross posted from her thread in the Q&A section on the Methylene Blue page here: https://www.earthclinic.com/remedies/methylene-blue_questions.html#Question_4567.

Methylene Blue in a Nebulizer

I am suffering from a bad fungal infection of my sinuses and head-tried verconazole--1100.00 a month--lots of nasty side affects--methylene blue (mb) did the job much better--ingested and nebulized at first then only orally. Started with 1/10th of one drop of 2% mb been working up another drop a day. The day after being sneezed on by a very sick woman, I started feeling poorly with my head feeling worse--I nebulized mb a few times and felt poorly the next day-but am feeling good again now--I think the mb stopped the virus in its tracks--could be the cure for the common cold and other viral infections.

Warning--you must hold your breath while nebulizing--do not inhale the mb--will hurt your lungs--I put a straw in the mouthpiece and block off the unit so all the mist is coming out the straw--you can only do this with the old style neb that works off air pressure. Hope is everything!!!

I can only find Lugol's online. Usually, I get the 2% and double the number of drops because 5% is harder to come by.

Just realized that I wrote I was taking 9 grams of melatonin. LOL! That would be an overdose for sure. I was taking 9 mgs, and have tapered down to 3 mg. Will continue tapering to 1.5 mg.

At this point, the brain buzzing has become barely noticeable on top of my head. That buzzing sensation in the legs and right side have stopped as well (those are areas that flared up with buzzing and pain once when I took doxycycline -so it's interesting to note) and it appears the other possible side effects - back pain, headaches, weren't related. I do suspect the interaction of melatonin with methylene blue (MB) was part of the buzzing issue. Regular coffee is definitely also an isssue in the buzzing, so my advice is avoid or drink decaf.

MB has not increased my energy levels but I still think it has increased my ability to focus and has perhaps reduced depression and anxiety as well.

I don't know how many miccrograms I'm getting of the MB with each drop at 0.1%. I think it could be 60 mcg. If anyone has a guesstimate, I'd really appreciate an approximation to assist with my research on scientific studies with MB.

I have looked almost everywhere for it, in healthfood stores. No one has it. Whole Foods and Earwhone doesn't even have iodine other than the one help derived iodine and does not provide any percentages on the lable and the fluid is clear.

Broad Benefits

Thank you for posting this. I'd been looking into Methylene Blue (MB) for antifungal/antibiotic/antiviral uses, and noted that it seemed to clear up brain fog and was being used in clinical trials for a variety of brain-related issues (which I have to some degree). I also had multiple painful cysts (one each on an ovary, liver, kidney, in diaphram area and a breast.) The breast one seemed to go away on it's own but the others persisted for 9 months, sometimes doubling me over in agony. Usually though, they only hurt if I or my doctor pressed on them.

After a week on MB, I noticed the abdominal area cysts hadn't been bothering me, so I began pressing on all the parts that hurt, and no pain. I'm assuming they are now cleared up. Note that two weeks prior to MB, I finally took a course of antibiotics, which may have helped, but the pain was still there, and they still hurt when I pressed on them even a week after discontinuing the antibiotics.

Other supplements I take are Lugols 5% (average 1 drop per day); daily, a half dose of a good quality, high b vitamin multi, vitamin D 1500-2000 per day, N-A-C, Milk Thistle, Lysine, 3-4 grams Vitamin C and melatonin; Zinc, selenium lithium aspartate (5 mg) are taken 3-4 x per week. Also, I've been faithfully making Ted's alkalzing formula 1/4 tsp baking soda with an acid (ACV, lemon juice, or for now, just the vitamin C crystals to take with the Methylene Blue). Additional baking soda taken on its own before bed.

Take a few low dose (usually 1/3 of lowest dose) Xanax and Trazadone for sleep or panic attacks as needed. (Once in past week.) Taking the MB in 2-5 drops, 2-3 x per day in the 0.1% solution recommended by this site (Ted). I've settled for now upon 2 drops but experimented a bit.

I've experienced reduced brain fog, increased ability to focus, recall of memories and vocabulary that were lost to the brain fog, deeper sleep, and less anxiety but not ruling out placebo effect (or the addition of Lysine) yet as I haven't been on it for months. I can only say that the cysts are not a placebo effect, as they were painful and I wasn't taking MB for them per se, although I did hope for improved general health due to possible viral/fungal/bacterial infection. I have traveled to jungles, etc. , in past and thought perhaps I picked up something US docs don't screen for.

Side effects I may be experiencing from Methylene Blue are headaches (mild, infrequent), dehydration - drinking lots more water, buzzing in brain - specifically the right side over temple, and sometimes on top of hear, stiffness in neck/ upper back. Except for the buzzing, the others may not be related at all. The brain buzzing is particulalry amplified by coffee and/or N-A-C. I've also been experiencing a buzzing in my lower legs (outside of calf) for a few days.

There's research on Methylene Blue that says it is an inhibitor of Tau protein aggregation. (From wiki: Tau proteins are proteins that stabilize microtubules. They are abundant in neurons of the central nervous system and are less common elsewhere, but are also expressed at very low levels in CNS astrocytes and oligodendrocytes.[1] When tau proteins are defective, and no longer stabilize microtubules properly, they can result in dementias such as Alzheimer's disease. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tau_protein)

Melatonin also reduces tau hyperphosphorylation, at least in rat brain studies, so I'm going to taper off of melatonin (I've taken 9 grams for a year) for a while. It might somehow be related to the buzz effect too.

That's my report. I fully expect that the mental benefits from my lose dose Methylene Blue experience will be a fail/placebo, but I'm going to keep it up for two or three more months, just in case.

Several posts insist that the correct dose of MTB is 60mcg three times a day. Surely it MUST be 60 mg because they seems to use Uralene Blue tablets at the beginning of the trial and these are 60mg.

I don't understand the reasoning behind the 60mcg beliefs

General Feedback
Posted by Farm Girl (Tempe, Az, Usa) on 11/08/2012

Has anyone using Methylene blue (and getting a positive response) been tested for Brucella or Lyme's Disease?

Both diseases are chronic infections that are notably hard to cure, requiring 6 weeks to up to 2 years of strong antibiotics, because these pathogens replicate in cells where the antibiotics can't reach, ensuring fresh crops of pathogens about every two weeks. Also, patients may have initially bad symptoms when first taking the antibiotics because as the pathogen dies, it releases toxins.

When taking MB, or any other medicine, for infection, PLEASE take it long enough and at a high enough dose to completely eradicate the pathogen. Otherwise you may be simply creating another Superbug that neither MB nor antibiotics can cure.

Thanks - I checked out MMS on the web as well as here on earthclinic. Seems great if you've already contracted malaria, but I'm looking for a preventative. I don't fancy being in the middle of nowhere with the terrible cramping and diarrhea MMS seems to bring on, whereas the methylene blue "avatar" side effects seem easier to deal with. Just seeing if someone knows of a dose that will effectively kill the malaria Protozoa should they manage to get in in the first place. I'll be sure to eat pawpaw seeds etc too, plus I'm taking H2O2 & vit c powder with me as well.

Hi Kylie, If I were you I would search the net for MMS & see if it will suit your needs because it has been proven as an effective remedy for malaria.

I would like to know the dosage for malaria as well. I'm taking methylene blue away with me as a malaria preventative and would be good to know how many drops of a 1% solution I should take as a preventative. Any suggestions?

If it is 2.3% concentration and you wish to get 0.1%, then divide a glass in 10 pats very clearly by marks. Fill up the half of the first tenth part with the concentration (that is 2.3%) and fill the rest of the glass with distilled water.

Robyn, have you tried the "Chemical Injury Information Network", Member supported group of Multiple Chemical Sensitivity? I have suffered many yrs disability with environmental illness, but I somehow do no suffer the severity of symptoms of this group or fibro, so there is a big curve of individuality.

Have you done parasite cleansing? There are both chemical and natural methods but I can't imagine you haven't addressed this already but I suggest it because these buggers cannot be "detoxified" w/ the list of naturals you provided. You may have very little in the way of elimination. Have you done gallbladder and colon cleanses? Don't rule out some type of viral Hepatitis even though you haven't had that diagnosis (like myself). I have responded favorably to the St John'sWort, Lysine, Colloidal Silver only in combination. BHT seems to be helping remarkably but it's only been about 5 days now so I cannot conclude. Detox Foot Pads are quite effective for all kinds of toxins, have you tried them? You can purchase them at wholesale prices on Ebay. Hot Baths with minerals must bring you some relief. I use Baking Soda, Epsom Salt, and micronised agriculture grade multiminerals ---1/4 cup of each and ALWAYS come out the better. And to treat fungal issues add some Borax or Povidone Iodine.

Please update as you appear to need some help from these debilitating "invisible" disease conditions.

I was treated for fibromyalgia for about six years. I would pray that I would not wake up if I had to live like this the rest of my life. To make a long story short I had mercury poisoning. Had to have 14 teeth pulled due to caps and so many fillings. Went back to check book and pain began shortly after having caps put on teeth. I felt better than I had in years even though I had 14 teeth pulled the previous day. No pain since Sept 14, 2008. Hopes this helps you.

Yes, use both taurine and K2 I've read calcium in the tissues causes pain, ca blocking the arteries causes stiffness but maybe thats not the reason for UNBELIEVABLE pain. Reading all the fibro case studies does nothing to ease my mind.

Please if anyone has got better from fibro tell us about it. If anyone has got better from chemical sensitivity tell us about it. I've now got myself too sick to get away from pollution and other chemicals. And very lonely when you can't go near people. EC it would be good if there was a way to contact people who have posted up their case study. I got some more helpers for my liver; NAC, grapefruit seed extract, milk thistle - had a huge reaction, unbelievable pain, couldn't move for a week. Stopped them and the pain is now down to I can't stand it. So if I'm taking taurine and K2 I don't know if I'm making myself worse or not.... overactive immune system?? or a crapped out liver that reacts to what's sposed to help it.

Robyn, the amino acid Taurine helps the body use minerals, and Vit-K helps the body use Calcium in particular.

sorry I mean calcium. Does it help clear excess calcium lying around in tissues, arteries, I assume causing at least part of this extreme pain ALL the time.

Methylene Blue: I just read it can help with clearing ca. Is this so? I have been using a couple of drops in a 600 ml of water. Is it effective without the vit c?

EC: Hi Robyn,

By ca, do you mean cancer? Medical abbreviation list for Ca also includes: carcinoma, cardiac arrest, chronologic age, and cytosine arabinoside.

hi Pat, Very good point you made. I know I had mentioned this in one of my previous posts. While we are on this topic... Someone also has to be careful taking Resveratrol and/or Curcumin along with any antidepressant because Resv and Curcumin also have some MAOI properties. Just a heads up.
