Guaifenesin treats congestion, cold, flu, bronchitis, sinus infections, and may increase chances of pregnancy (obviously not the case for males).

Guaifenesin, available in many OTC cough syrups (tussin) is also available in tablets (mucinex) or available in generic form from many online pharmacies or health-food stores. The suggested dose is 400 - 1200 mg no more than twice daily. Guaifenesin is an expectorant -- so, take it with PLENTY of water. It thins the mucous membranes in the body -- NOT just the lungs or throat, but the ENTIRE (ENTIRE) body. you'll probably cough a bit more than usual for the first couple days -- that's GOOD -- you're getting rid of all the extra CRAP that shouldn't be there, in the first place. I have Asthma and Allergies (as well as a chronic sinus infection) I take loratadine, advair, singulair, benadryl, and albuterol. They work -- a little -- all together . . . but if I miss my guaifenesin -- I can definitely tell. It's rumored that it's also a useful remedy for CFS. Be careful, though -- guaifenesin can cause an increase in blood pressure -- so take it with PLENTY ( I cannot stress that enough ) PLENTY!!! of water!

I used Guaifenesin twice to get pregnant after trying for five years. Take your temp every morning. Determine your ovulation schedule. Take Robetussin like the label suggests beginning a few days before ovulation begins and continuing for 4-5 days. It will increase cervical mucus thus increasing the chances the little sperm will swim well! Worked for me!

I used to get a post nasal drip that caused me to cough forever after a cold and it seemed as if I coughed all winter every winter. Doctors tried a number of different medications over the years without success. Gauifenesen works, and I suffered no side effects, although it does take a couple of weeks of using it, most likely because coughing becomes and involuntary response.

I have since worked to correct my PH and I keep it alkaline (see Ted' s posts on this) and I now get a cold only when I am under a great deal of stress. The alkaline PH prevents the conditions that cause mucus because it is an unfriendly environment for viruses.

Hi Nisha77, Guaifenesin can be found in Mucinex and I believe Robitussin. I think those are available in the UK. Hope this helps, Lisa

I'd like to hear from anyone who tried Guaifenesin for CFS, fibromyalgia etc. I understand there is a protocol run by a doctor in USA in his own clinic, and many people have attested to being cured of fibro or cfs using this. If you have any experiences of it - good or bad - please get in touch with me as I have fibro and cfs and am considering taking this. Have tried other things. I also think it depends on what type of fibro you have and why you have it. Many thanks and happy new year.

Hello Pat, Yea! To all having infertility problems, Please notice. Glad to know that Robitussin is effective for something. I never found it to be as effective as apple cider vinegar & honey for coughs/colds!

The post doesn't give the details of whether it is slow or fast release and the dosage of the tablets?

Laryngo Phageal Reflux

I tried guaifenesin (Mucinex)for several weeks because I always had a big clog of mucus low in my throat. It didn't do a thing. Turns out, the ENT suspects I have larygophageal reflux disease. He prescribed Aciphex to see if that will work. I am planning to try some of the remedies on this site first to see if I can deal with this naturally instead of pumping PPIs into my system.
