I started experiencing pain in my left ankle unexpectedly in August 2009. I was fine the night before, but when I woke up my ankle was killing me. It hurt when I touched it and when I put pressure on it. Doing some research on the internet, I learned that I had gout. I wish I could remember the magazine that I read that explained that some women experiencing Menopause will get gout. The suggestion was that taking 1500 mg. of Vitamin C would alleviate the pain in a couple of weeks. It worked for me for awhile, but the pain and swelling returned about a month or so ago and didn't go away like it did when I treated it with vitamin c before.

Also, people who are overweight are at risk of developing it. I was truly grateful to the people on this website who said that they have used Baking Soda and also Apple Cider Vinegar. I have tried both to see if one works better than another. I have only used these natural treatments for about 5 days now, and already my ankle has improved. No more pain when I touch it, and I can walk normally on it now. If I sit for long periods and then stand up, it starts to hurt again. But there has been a definite improvement overall. Thank you for your suggestions.

Also, doing further research earlier, I discovered that people have to use caution when using the Baking Soda because it can cause some other health problems if you use too much of it. The suggested recipe I use is as follows: 8 oz. of water warmed in the microwave first, then add 1 teaspoon of honey and stir until dissolved, then add 1 tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar. You can take that once or twice daily. I prefer first thing in the morning and just before going to bed. It seems to be more effective on an empty stomach. It actually doesn't taste too bad. The Baking Soda recipe is 1/2 teaspoon of Baking soda mixed with 4 oz. of water. You can take that 2-3 times per day. I hope that these remedies work for someone else, too.

To Nick C from Toronto, who wanted to know why gout usually happens at night. It is because the blood is circulating more slowly when you sleep, so the crystals easily to build up at the joints.

ACV & baking soda: I woke up one morning with an ache in my thumb and by the next day I had my first attack of Gout. A friend, who is an MD gave me a script for colchozine and I got absolutely no relief from taking that, prednizone and large amounts of ibuprophen. It hurt so badly for four days, I was starting to freak out! I went to our local health food store and bought $100 worth of supplements and began taking things like cherry, celery seed, alfalfa and fatty acids. Then that night I found a web site that told me to take ACV & baking soda in 6 - 8 oz. of water. I did it that night and thought I felt some relief but didn't want to be too hopeful. In the night I woke up and took more water and baking soda only. (I understood the chemistry behind the soda offsetting the acid) I woke up disappointed that it was not better at all. I found this web site and I decided to try the ACV & Baking soda again and amazingly withing 20 minutes I began feeling a lot of relief. I kept up the same regiment of supplements but with the ACV & baking soda twice a day. After 4 days I'd say I'm 90% recovered. The pain was much reduced after 1 1/2 days. I still have a small knot and some tenderness in one spot! Thanks so much!!!

Yes not only sinusitis but also gout and arthrities.

Used 2 table spoon of apple cider vinegar and 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda and 8oz of filtered water and drink it. 3 -4 hours you will be relax of pain but take your blood pressure first and 45 minutes after take it again. If your bp increased to above normal take bp medicine rt away or stop drinking. Its only precaution....

Hey, I am back. It's been 7 days taking the ACV baking soda concoction and I am fully cured from my gout attack. Actually in my 5th day the pain and swelling were gone but decided to make this my daily regimen. I am at my best health today, I decided to continue my diet and the ACV and BS, I lost 4 pounds and my BP goes normal ( 110/80 ). I am dropping the BS for my daily sustenance but have it available on the shelf in case an attack. I feel great and indebted to this site. I am trying to share my findings with friends and families.

First, I very much want to thank Ted in Bangkok for his always helpful suggestions and recommendations. I have met Ted in person and he is an absolute wonderful source of information. I love watching Medical Doctors squirm uncomfortably when I state that I wish to use a natural remedy. They hate it! Must be money taken out of their pcokets by not pushing the big pharmaceutical company products.

I suffered from what a supposedly renowned Rheumatoligist told me was Wegener's Granulmatosis. Ha! It turns out I have tophaceous gout. I have been using Ted's Alkalizing formula (apple cider vinegar and baking soda) for 6 months now and my gout symptoms, the tophi and pain are almost gone. I also suffered from very severe bile reflux. My bilirubin levels have always been very high. Ted suggested that I take 1 teaspoon of granulated lecithin per day. My bilirubin levels are now within normal range and I no longer suffer bile reflux.

I am about to embark on an H2O2 regimen to see how that goes.

Thank you Ted and Earth Clinic.

Hi everyone. Like so many of you here, I was shocked last year when my Doc said I had a "touch of gout", when I thought I had broken my big toe! Well, fortunately the first attack last year was brief albeit extremely painful and I vowed to lose weight and try natural methods to prevent a recurrence.

I started taking ACV with the Mother in it which is non-pasteurised and unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar for those who didn't know. Basically, it should look cloudy with bits floating in it. Don't worry though! Those floating bits are the most helpful enzymes you will ever consume!!

What I do is pour about a cap full of ACV into a glass and dilute with water. I tend to fill the glass to the top. I like the taste which is like drinking a pint of cider before bedtime.

It works! The properties when ACV has the Mother in helps to eat the uric acid in your bloodstream in a natural way. It will also help to dissolve the uric acid crystals in your joints as well, but you must drink lots of water on a daily basis to keep flushing the body and disposing of the uric acid.

Now! Taking ACV with the Mother in is only half the job done because now you need to get your blood back from high acidity levels to a neutral alkaline state and thus avoid being prone to any future gout flare ups.

How do you do this?

1. Eat healthy. Avoid eating too many foods with high purine levels in. Most Gout help websites will give you a list of foods to avoid.

2. Keep hydrated. Drink plenty of water and aim to drink at least 1. 5-2 litres daily. This will help to keep flushing out your body of any nasties!

3. Baking soda solution. If you get a tingle (any who had suffered gout for a while knows what I mean) in your bones and especially your big toe, act fast and start taking baking soda solution on an empty stomach usually before bedtime and first thing in the morning before breakfast.

Add 1/4 teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda into a glass and fill to brim. Stir up and drink down in one go.

The active properties in baking soda will start reducing the ph levels in your blood bringing it back into an alkaline state and hopefully avoid a painful flare up.

4. Test your ph levels. This may sound a little gross, but it's a cheap and effective way to periodically check the ph level of your body fluids. Instead of purchasing litmus paper or other ph testing equipment, pass a little urine into a glass or similar and sprinkle a pinch of baking soda into it.

If the baking soda drops straigh to the bottom of the glass then your are alkaline.

If the baking soda causes any bubbles, then there is likely to be too much acid in your blood and it's time to start taking the baking soda solution.

Good luck everyone!

Wow... Thought I twisted my knee out in the yard. Actually was beginning of my first and hopefully last gout attack. Pain was getting unbearable in right knee to the point of hobbling around! I didnt know what was going on! Remembered my mom had gout long long time ago so I started looking online... Thank God I did. Started baking soda and water therapy yesterday at noon followed by ACV with orange juice... By last night the pain was dissipating and the heat on the joint was reduced. Was stiff this morning but still better and had another go-round of the cocktails! Am very happy to report that by this afternoon was up vacuuming the house... It is still a little tweaked but the speed of improvement was incredible. Spent couple hours on this site looking at the other posts as well. Will definately be back and will refer people as well. Many many thanks!

I have been suffering and doing everything I know to alleviate this last attack that started July 12-2011... Yes, I say this last attack because I am determined to cure it once and for all... Thanks to all suggestions I found elsewhere and confirmed them here with real people who are concerned and helpful to every one... THANKS so much to all of you for all what you contributed so far and what will contribute in the future.

Since July 12, 2011 I have taken 3 days in a row, lost of vitamin C as it worked before... But did not work this time... So I went on line to search for other natural remedies... Found the ACV and honey formula... But I am 100% vegan (yes, even vegans have gout, if it was there before becoming vegan.. I presume that is the truth) so I do not use honey and used stevia instead... 3 days of that formula.. The swelling and pain was still there.. Then I mixed Vitamin C and the ACV with water and lemon and stevia... It seamed to work, but not as it was shown it worked with others... So I went back to read the formula and I was doing it wrong... I used too much ACV... Almost 4-5 times J Anyway... I changed a little as the formula say and went on for a few more days and since it was not working as fast as I imagined, two days a go went back to search again and found the baking soda formula... VOILA" I got relived from the pain almost instantly and I say THANK GOD finally found something that brings fast results and it looks like long lasting as well.

So I have been drinking 8 oz of water with ½ teaspoon of baking soda 3 times a day..

Yesterday was a triumph and this morning got up very happy because the swelling and the pain was very minimum... But now is after 9pm at night and I can see the swelling is gone up and there is a little pain... Nothing to worry and I also must say I can sleep fine with no pain keeping me awake, I ma certain tomorrow morning will be much, much better

Not sure why or how come the swelling come up in the evening... But it has done this a few other times before.. So I got used to.... But I must say I can feel this is it, this formulation works more then any other one that I used before and it is all natural.. wow!!!!! But I also must say that I am not 100% sure what really worked more then the other since I use everything else before..

The end of this post... I also changed to a 90% raw diet and stay away from all foods known to have high purine contents, like beans and lentils and so on, I will continue taking Baking Soda and water, together with one or two times a day the ACV formula and once the swelling and pain is all gone.. And my healthy foot and immune system is 100% healthy and great shape as it was many times before... I will continue taking some ACV with water from time to time and also baking soda with water for maintenance... I am certain gout will be a thing of the past from now onward

Hope what I wrote assist someone here as your post assisted me and more.

I became acidic in various parts of the body due to adding liquid Vitamin B to my regime. In the cold damp weather, these areas ached terribly. Taking 1 tspn Apple Cider Vinegar with 1 tspn honey in hot water at night then again next morning balanced the PH except for the big toe which was inflamed. Increased my water intake by 100% and took half a tspn bi-carb soda in half small glass warm water. 50% improvement within 24 hours then second dose bi-carb, problem solved!

Hi fellow gout sufferers. I first experienced gout a few years ago and had medication to clear it up. I haven't had an attack for almost a year, but two days ago my bunion on my big toe started to ache. I didn't think about gout until later that night when there was some redness. Yesterday, the angry redness and swelling were growing. I didn't want medication so looked on Earth Remedies.

I tried just a very small amount of baking soda and apple cider vinegar twice. I also applied some ibuprofen pain relief gel twice. Because I suspect that carbohydrates cause the gout flame up in the first place, I cut my carbs. Today, the angry redness is very slight and the pain has subsided. This is miraculous as I have been almost crippled with the pain in the past, unable to sleep and unable to walk properly. The reason I think carbs bring on an attack is because I have been eating more of them every time I have had an attack. Thank you everyone for your advice. Jodie

What a great story about your father, Earl of Marquette - very inspiring! He is very lucky to have children like you and your sister. I've copied the recipe and will be prepared to use it for any pain I or my family members might encounter. Thanks for sharing and best wishes to your family. Cheers, Bess

Hi, I was interested to read that Jodie said her gout was made worse by eating carbohydrates. I too discovered this. I haven't had a gout attack for two years. However, yesterday, I could feel a twinge in my right big toe. Today, I can feel it again. After not eating many carbohydrates I tried once more to eat some. I am not talking about a large amount; just a couple of slices of bread or similar. I knew instantly that the extra carbs had caused my gout to rear its ugly head again. I am so pleased that Jodie has also confirmed this. I am off now to get some bicarbonate of soda to prevent the attack become full blown. An attack is usually so bad that I can hardly walk, but you fellow sufferers are aware of that. Thank you all.

Hey Rudy, how is the battle? Is this still working for you? I am currently in the process of trying to find a more permanent regime to follow to reduce flare ups and curious if you have any updates for long term use.

I have been suffering from gout pain for three weeks with no end in site. I have read through the postings and have tried the baking soda and ACV twice a day for six days now and have felt no relief. In fact, the pain has increased in intensity. My doctor has now placed me on medication to reduce the uric acid in my body for the next 15 days. I would really like to learn of a life long remedy and not be chained to another medication. I already am being medicayed for HBP and Cholesterol. Any ideas? I would be enternally grateful. Thanks

If you are on a diuretic for your HBP like HCTZ then I have read that potassium is your problem. Increase the potassium and see if this helps. I have the same problem and I am sitting here with my foot in a solution of ACV and water.

You MUST change your diet. Nuts, too much meat and especially alcohol. Stop drinking beer. Remove the foods that have high purines(protein) from your diet and it will get better.

I have been 90% better taking a product containing Potassium citrate, Celery Seed Extract, Black Cherry 4:1 Fruit Extract, Bromelain and Tumeric Root. Wish I could provide the name of the product and/or the company that makes it, but if you have a good health food store in your area, I'm sure they can find the product or something similar. Hope you're better by now (you posted a year ago) but if you don't need this info, maybe someone else does. I also had to cut back on my red wine consumption. Am also using ACV and BSM.
