I have been suffering from bv for a few years off and on again. The discharge and the smell was becoming unbearable. And I was tired of the antibiotics from the drs. I looked up home remedies for bv and found this site. Once I read the post I was a little scared but I figured it could not be any worse then the he'll I was in. So I used the hydrogen peroxide last week. I filled half of the douche bottle with warm water and the other half with the peroxide. It burned a little at first but i took a cool wash cloth and placed it on my vagina until it stopped and there has been no odor no any discharge since. This site is very helpful !!!!!!

Hi - it is possible to continue to get infections after i/c....you may be passing the infection back and forth...you should have him do a course of soaks along with you. Also, anything that changes your PH may be causing the re-occurences as well - these include condoms, gels, pre-ejec fluid, your own vaginal lubrication, etc...
I suggest you treat both of you simultaneously for 7 days....then when you resume i/c do a soak / flush (both of you) and see if the BV stays away that way.
Good luck

Hydrogen Peroxide is perfect for curing BV!
I had BV once a few years ago and was given an antibiotic for it. It did the job. I had the same symptoms last month (strong rotton fish odor), so I knew it was BV. After a urinalysis and culture sample, my doctor actually told me there was nothing wrong, but gave me the antibiotics anyway. It cleared my symptoms. Within a month, I noticed a slight change in my vaginal smell, so I knew the BV was back. I didn't want to wait until the smell overpowered me again, but I didn't want to take any more antibiotics. They're not really good for you as they kill ALL bacteria, even the good ones. I did a search online for natural cures and found this web site. I saw that the Hydrogen Peroxide cure is all over the internet, and since I always have some handy, I tried it right away.
I measured 30 ml of non-diluted H2O2 in a turkey baster. With a towel under me, I lay down with my legs over my head and, using a mirror, squeezed the H202 into my relaxed vagina. (I did not insert the baster. It's much simpler to squeeze it in from the outside.)
Stay relaxed or you will push the liquid out. I waited 5 minutes before releasing the H2O2 into the toilet.
I did this once a day for 7 days. After the first treatment, the smell was negligible. After the second treatment, the smell was completely gone. It did the H2O2 reaction did fizz a little, but did not burn or feel uncomfortable.
Cheap, easy, immediate, effective, natural, and private. Try it.

For anyone who doubts if hydrogen peroxide cures BV, it really, really does, don't hesitate to try it. I had BV for months and tried all sorts of expensive antibiotics which only worked temporarily, and the infection would return after a few days. My doctor even prescribed flagylstatin which was horribly expensive and only worked for about 7 days. When I complained about the recurring infection, all the the doctor could suggest was that i get another prescription for antibiotics!! I found the information about hydrogen peroxide from this website, and other sites. I bought a reusable douche kit from the drugstore and douched with the half hydrogen peroxide, half water solution for 7 days and my BV cleared up completely. It has been 3 months, and there have been no symptoms whatsoever. The one thing I noticed was the symptoms did not improve until I started douching deep in the vagina (about 3 inches). The shallow douching (1 inch or so) did not work for me. I am also continuing with folic acid. God bless everyone that put the information about this miraculous and INEXPENSIVE cure on this website.

Hello! I read this site six months ago and decided to try the one part hydrogen peroxide and one part water douche for my reoccuring (i.e. every month or two) BV and yeast infections. I douche with this mix everytime after my husband and I are intimate and I can say that I have been BV and yeast infection free for all six months!! It is absolutely amazing. I had done a lot of research on possible causes and found that PH was a big factor. I also read that our bodies produce hydrogen peroxide naturally so I was less nervous about trying it. My infections started after my husband I got married (I was a virgin before). I had also read that semen is very alkaline. I figured that he was very alkaline and my body was not able to regulate my PH on its own. All my research took a long time between treatments at the doc (metronidozole, etc.) and OTC treatments. One time, a year and a half ago, I douched with only 30 ml of hydrogen peroxide after we were intimate and I was infection free for several months. I then decided to do this every other time we were intimate and my infections came back. For some reason I didn't attribute the reoccurrence to my not using the hydrogen peroxide everytime and did another round of doc visits and terrible medicines that only worked for a few weeks. Then I came back here and read someone's idea of doing the half water half hydrogen peroxide and decided to try doing it after sex everytime. It has worked! For anyone suffering from BV and/or yeast infections - I recommend doing this! I buy the disposable douches from the store, like summer's eve (they already have some mix in them but I dump it out and just use the bottle for a few weeks, being very careful to keep it clean), make my half water half H202 mix and rinse after sex and that's that! Sometimes it burns a bit but then I just hold a warm wash cloth to the area and the burning goes away in a couple mins. I hope this helps some people because no one should have to live with these infections!

Hey Ladies, BV Hydrogen Peroxide Remedy WORKS GOOD!
I wanted to take the time to say Hydrogen Peroxide is the magical cure, I used 3% to clear up Bacterial Vaginosis on a tampon the kind with the plastic applicator that way to will stay in as the solution expands it. Take a large shot glass fill it with 3 parts 3% Hydrogen peroxide fro local drug store and 1 part bottled spring water, it is more pure than tap. Soak tampon for about 30 seconds insert it for a half hour remove and repeat no ore than three times a week. I was nervous at first because I thought peroxide was to harsh but it isn't it shouldn't even burn. It should feel refreshing. Good Luck LADIES Hydrogen peroxide is naturally produced in the Vagina. I
I am also trying 1400mcg of Folic Acid a day! I will up date you on that soon. Thank you ladies for your feedback it really helped me.

I have had bv for probably two years now,not knowing what it was until late last year when the smell and the itching was really bad. i went to the gynae got meds and it didnt help at all (flagly and metro...) i found this site this morning hoping to find out what bv was really about. i did and tried the 1/2 peroxide 1/2 distilled water douche. when squeezing in the solution i didnt know what to expect..then i saw yellow looking discharge coming more like flowing out. i waited 3 and a half minutes, squeezed out all the liqiud from the vagina, then waited a minute. the area started foaming and it burned for a second. i then washed the area thoroughly with water..i actually dont feel itchy and dont smell anything literally anything..i will start the acidophlius later on when i eat. i will comment on my condition in a week... thannk u to every woman who posted their experience im very sure it made us all feel normal in the way that we werent alone.

i just want to say that i think we should talk about PREVENTION!!! I have been heavily drinking coffee, daily and I never had these symptoms until the last few months. I think I will drastically withdraw from drinking the coffee and see if that is part of or is the problem.
one other thing is that I think also is water intake. I notice how I feel dry majority of times. I have tried a product by the name of Yeast Guard. they have the natural douche, a gel, suppositories and pills. However, they worked while I was taking the pills and the douche for 7 days. However, when I stopped the good 'ol infection came back!! Now, I had some B vitamins with 400 mcgs of folic acid and I took one, as soon as I found out it was a remedy! I will start to resume the Yeast pills for extra measure. I paid for it, I may as well use it... right? anyhow, it doesn't hurt.
IN conclusion, please look at your diet and notice anything that you may ingest that may cause this monster to come back again, again and again and again.
the buck stops here!

I've been suffering from BV for about 9 months now (on and off) I started using the hydrogen peroxide, and folic acid. The Hydrogen peroxide stopped the discharge amd the smell and even the itch for about 2 weeks as well as taking 800mgs of folic acid once a day. But now it seems the hydrogen peroxide only works for about one day stopping the discharge only for a day as well as stopping the inner labia itch . Anyone have any Suggestions? im going crazy with the itch.

Like most other posters, I've suffered with BV for almost 10 years, getting it sometimes up to 4 times a year. I always took metronidazole and that cured it, but the past 6 months it has not. I think maybe my body is simply resistant from taking it so much. A few months ago I again got it, and it is ALWAYS after I have sex that I get it. I took the metronidazole and it got better but not cured. After several weeks I thought it was gone but after having sex again it once again came back. Took metronidazole AGAIN and it didn't work. This BV has been affecting my life so much! I needed to find something that would work and found this website, I was skeptical at first about using hydrogen peroxide on my "lady parts" because it seemed harsh but after doing some research I found that actually the "good" bacteria in the vagina produce hydrogen peroxide naturally so I figured it was safe, plus all the testimonials here.
Before I started treating myself, I had a thick discharge with itching and burning. I used a 1/2 water, 1/2 hydrogen peroxide douche the first night before bed, it didn't burn but did feel tingly for awhile. The next morning I couldn't tell if I was better or not. It seemed the same so I soaked a tampon in 3% peroxide and put it in for about 30 mins. Again, same tingly feeling. That lasted a couple hours and I thought "Oh no, I might have made it worse" but then as the hours passed I felt better and better. By that night the discharge was much less and the burning was gone, just some mild itching now and again. I did the 1/2 peroxide 1/2 water douche again before bed and soaked another tampon with 3% peroxide, left it in about 10 mins. No tingling. This morning I woke up feeling better. Still a little discharge but nothing like it was. Over the course of the day I have felt better and better and now it's bedtime and I have no discharge and the itching is almost completely gone. Wow! I would say it's important to try the peroxide more than one time to ensure that it helps but also give your body some time to get balanced again. It won't be 100% fixed overnight, but I am definately on the right track, thanks to everyone who posted!

I'm a seventeen year old mother of one and i've been suffering from bv for almost two years, it's hell! i like most have visited the doctor for this many times and all i got out of it was a yucky cream or pill that was actually a yeast infection medication. a couple of weeks ago i went to the clinic and the nurse told me that i might have been suffering from bv and gave me diflacan, of course it didn't work. i decided to do a little research on bv and i came across this site, i saw that many women tried hydrogen peroxide (h202) in a douche and they had great reviews on it. i went to the local drug store last night and got the peroxide and douche, i poured 30cc's of peroxide into the douche and tried it when i took a shower. i did this three times and washed my vagina with (summer's eve feminine body wash for sensitive skin) when i woke up this morning the oh so familiar odor and discharge were completely gone! the discharge has come back slightly but i intend on douching regularly with peroxide for the next seven days. i hope this works for you!

Pam, stick with full strength 3% HP for at least the 7 days. DO NOT be lazy about it, just because the smell is gone after the 1st, 2nd day does not mean you're completely healed. DO 7 days straight. I'd say start the remedy AFTER your period. Blood is alkaline so is male pre-ejaculate/sperm and also female "lubrication/juice", that's why it comes back even with condom use. After 7 days, you should start feeling better without itch, odor, and decreased discharge. Do not have sex "OR" orgasm on your own (female juice is alkaline, it will set you back and you'll have to start from the beginning). No blood no sexual activity for the 7 days. I'm into my 3rd week even after sex and PERIOD!! My discharge is changing back to it's original consistency and texture. I have no odor whatsoever!! I actually have less of a "NORMAL" odor now than before I did the HP remedy - weird. Ladies 3% Hydrogen Peroxide works but, you have to use it FULL strength. Do washes NONE of that 1/2 and 1/2 douching. Douching IS bad for you. Ladies I wish you the best of luck with this crap of an ailment. Try this. It's working for so far. I smell like air!! Hooorayyy!!

I have dealt with BV for years. After medication from the doctors that never really worked I started to do research on it. I found a site from a Midwife. I decided to try the following hydrogen peroxide wash.
Directions for hydrogen peroxide washes:
Take a 30 cc syringe (without the needle) place 3 cc of hydrogen peroxide and fill the rest with distilled water. Insert the syringe in the vagina about an inch and push the fluid in. Do this once a day for seven days.
During treatment period the partner should wear condoms during intercourse. To prevent recurrences the partner should wash after intercourse with a mild antibacterial soap (like dial). I also had my husband wash with this every day for seven days even if there was no intercourse.
The only thing different I did was in addition to the above I got a perineal care bottle and put 1 to 2 oz of peroxide then I filled the rest of it with warm water, shake it to make sure it is mixed well then I would wash my genital area every time I went to the bath room, this seemed to help with the itching.
I have only had one reoccurance with BV in three years and I did the above and it has not come back.
I know this worked well for me but some people do respond differently to things. Hope it works.

Hi Terri,
In answer to your question, it is highly unlikely one can have unprotected sexual intercourse without sharing any infection one partner might have. Therefore if only one partner is treated for that infection, the treated partner is going to keep getting reinfected by the untreated partner.
My suggestion is to make sure that both you and your partner are using the same remedy at the same time, because what is effective for you should also be effective for him. After proper treatment for both partners (and both apparently have no infection after treatment), if you keep getting reinfected, I would definitely be inquiring how many sexual partners my partner has. There are too many health destroying sexually transmitted diseases out there to risk playing house with a promiscuous partner. Even that nastiest of the old ones (AIDS now has that title) LGV or lymphogranuloma venerum moved inland from the seaports back in the l980's. I saw my first case of it in Tennessee in l980 in the Appalachian mountain area and the 2nd case less than 6 months later in border area of Central/West Tennessee area.

Wow I went out yesterday and bought hydrogen peroxide 3% mixed 1/2 and 1/2 with H2o and it worked as far as the odor! I then soaked a tampon with orgainc plain yogurt and pressed organic garlic and inserted for an hour. This morning I smell a bit of garlic but I am going to do another douche with the peroxide now. How long do I continue to douche? Will this effect my bladder and UT at all because I have been prone to bladder infections in the past this is why I have been on probiotics for 2 years straight everyday. Also does my sex partner need to do anything to prevent re infection? I was going to have him rinse with the solution before sex.

Utilisation of hydrogen peroxide in the treatment of recurrent bacterial vaginosis.[Article in English, Italian]
Cardone A, Zarcone R, Borrelli A, Di Cunzolo A, Russo A, Tartaglia E.
1st Obstetric and Gynecologic Clinic, Department of Gynecology, Obstetrics and Neonatology, Second University of Naples, Naples, Italy.
AIM: The authors have evaluated the real efficacy of using hydrogen peroxide for previously treated recurrent bacterial vaginosis that is resistant to other forms of treatment. METHODS: The study included 58 women aged between 18 and 42 years old. Vaginal irrigations with 30 ml of hydrogen peroxide (3%) were prescribed in the evening for a week. The follow-up was carried out 3 months after the end of treatment. RESULTS: The results clearly show that the use of hydrogen peroxide in vagina can eliminate the main symptoms of bacterial vaginosis, and in particular the malodorous leucoxanthorrhea in 89% of cases at 3 months after the end of treatment, a result that is comparable to that obtained using metronidazole or clindamycin as a vaginal cream. Moreover, hydrogen peroxide facilitates the restoration of normal vaginal bacterial flora (represented by H202-producing lactobacillus) in 100% of cases and normal acid pH (pH<4.5) in 98% of cases; it also fosters the disappearance of clue cells from vaginal smears and anaerobic pathogenic flora from vaginal secretions in 100% of cases. The amine test became negative in 97.8% of cases. All results underwent statistical analysis and were found to be statistically significant. CONCLUSION: Hydrogen peroxide represents a valid alternative to conventional treatments for recurrent bacterial vaginosis, and associates the absence of collateral effects with low costs, excellent tolerability and real therapeutic efficacy.

Just wanted to comment on replenishing your natural bacteria into your body. Ladies after douching with the hydrogen peroxide go and buy "BIO K" in the health section of your grocery store. It is a yogurt which carries over 50 billion bacteria. I take half of the bottle daily and believe me it works for many things. It is very good for your bowels and builds your immune system. This also helps re establish your bacteria count that we need for the vagina.

I was searching the internet earlier and came accross the use of hydrogene peroxide for bv. I mixed equal amount of the above and water then squirted the liquid into my vagina laying down in the shower for a couple of min.one hour later I checked with a mirror and the discharge was totally GONE . This is just after one time before bed . I am going to do this for at least 4 days 2 make sure that it works because there is a slight fishy odor still.tomorrow I will buy folic acid because at this point I am desperate. we can always camouflage a discharge but certainly not a fishy smell so I really hope all this works.

This summer I was the unlucky host of a bacterial vaginosis episode. I wasn't sure if it was a yeast infection or bacterial since my symptoms were applicable to both (I had discharge that was initially clumpy and then more like runny egg white that would occur every month after my period and subside shortly before my next cycle. Also had slight itch but nothing unbearable.) I went to my gyneo (a midwife) and had a culture taken. BV was the diagnosis and I was given a prescription for clindesse (one application treatment of vaginal cream.) The first horror was the price I paid for the clindesse at the pharmacy. $70 out of my pocket WITH INSURANCE! Second horror, the itch from hell that I experienced as a side effect of the clindesse. The itch started about 3 days after using the clindesse and did not let up for one week straight. I tried everything to get the itch to stop but nothing really helped. I was miserable, angry and desperate to get rid of the itch that was not only external (outer labia) but internal as well. This was truly the itch you cannot scratch!! I had to wait until my body expelled all of the clindesse before I finally got some real relief from the itch (clindesse is a waxy, creamy substance that is inserted vaginally, kind of like a chap stick.)
After the bout with the clindesse and following my next period I had more persistent discharge that was like thick egg whites. I was very frustrated at this point. I read nearly all of the posts on earthclinic about cures for BV and decided to try douching with straight 3 percent hydrogen peroxide. I did this for 3 days in a row and the discharge stopped. I have had two periods since using the peroxide douche and have not had any abnormal discharge. I consider myself to be free of BV!!! If any of the symptoms come back, I will certainly use the peroxide douche again.
I did not experience any irritation with the peroxide, only relief.
Thank you to all the women who have posted their experiences with BV and the remedies that they have used. If it wasn't for you, I'd still be suffering.

Question for all those with persistent bacterial vaginosis complaints:
Have any of you read up on SSKI and tried Dr. Wright's (Tahoma Clinic) recommendation of SSKI douches? That would probably be my first trial if I had the problem. A few days of SSKI would be much quicker than battling it for weeks, months & years. I also think if I had the problem I would make sure that any sexual partner I had used the same treatment at the same time I did to keep from being reinfected all the time. In most STD's, unless both partners are treated at the same time, the treated one just keeps getting it back from the untreated one, and I suspect that this is true whether the infection is gonorhea, syphilis, trichimonas, yeast (candida albicans), BV, LGV. AIDS, or others.
