I came to this site hoping for a cure for my re-current bv/yeast infections. I was tired (and imbarrassed) of calling my Dr. every month for a prescription. And more importantly, with money being tight, I didn't have it to spend. I logged on and found this site and immediately tried the hydrogen peroxide/water (I used a plastic cup and poured equal amounts of each that covered the cotton part of the tampon)on the tampon. It burned for a minute or two then I felt bubbling, but it was tolorable. I drank some Apple Cider Vinegar (2 table spoons and 8 oz of water mix) and mixed a white vinegar and water douch (1/2 and 1/2). I left the tampon in for approx. 30 minutes, then douched an hour later. Again I felt some burning but it was again tolorable. The next morning there were no signs of the "cottage cheese" discharge and I was "so fresh and so clean"! I now have a new remedy that is both affordable and natural. Thanks for the tips.

Here are the things I tried for BV and for yeast infection, and what I think worked best for me for each:

boric acid, probiotics, coconut oil, apple cider vinegar.

I feel like the hydrogen peroxide (washing with and douching with) and probiotics (taken both orally and vaginally) work the best for BV, and now I have my natural (and I think actually quite nice) personal smell/taste back down there. I have to say it did take some time, it wasnt instant. I tried boric acid first and thought it would help more than it did, because I do think it along with ACV rinses works great for yeast, but I think boric acid and ACV wasn't so great for BV.

What I did was douche with 50/50 (approx) clean, filtered water and regular H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide) frequently at first (about 2-3xs per week) and opened an acidophilous capsule and scooped a tiny bit of that out with a clean cotton swab dipped in coconut oil and inserted it and swirled it around as far as I could go inside my vagina. I did this for about 2-3 weeks while also trying to alkalize my diet more, taking a multivitamin AND ingesting a lot of probiotics in different forms, for the sake of getting a variety of different beneficial bacteria populating into my gut and system. The probiotics I used were Good Belly beverage, Yakult beverage, expensive femme combo probiotic blend (Refrigerated type) and the cheap grocery store dry shelf acidophious capsules. I also took a few cranberry concentrate capsules orally for good measure because it contains properties which are purported to loosen and cleanse away the harmful bacteria that can adhere to the urinary tract. I made sure to take these many times a day at first and slowly ramped down as the symptoms receded.

I slowly backed down the frequency of H2O2 douching, however I still cleanse externally with a 50/50 H2O2/filtered water blend frequently, because I like the idea that is kills bad bacteria but also is a by product of (and therefore not removing) the good bacteria.

One of the keys to my regimes' success that I should also share is that I was sure to keep my hands and everything else I used very, very clean before ever putting it near my vagina. and I washed all my panties and pants with borax to help kill the bacteria that could be living in my clothes. In total it took about 3-6 weeks to completely eliminate all traces of BV in my system, however I have noticed after periods I catch a hint of it in my smell so I did one undiluted H2O2 douche after my period, each period and it seems to keep it from returning. I think one of the important things to keep in mind with douching is to know when to do it, and when not to. I think it is really important to let the vagina balance out and that can be a delicate balance between taking actions (like douching, inserting coconut oil and/or acidophilous) and just gently cleaning the outside but letting it rest and re-balance itself (herself? :)

WOW!!! I'm so glad I came across this site! I'm a married (faithfully) 30yr old that has been suffering from BV for at least a year. At first I didn't know what was wrong w/me. My main symptom was pain and burning during and after intercourse. Doc diagnosed me with bacterial vaginosis after a pap smear. She game me the pill, I think called metronidazole (or close to that) and an antifungal cream. I guess it helped slightly relieve symptoms for a week or so but not much relief. I didn't go back to the doc, it was embarrassing and I didn't want to take the pills again. they made me feel sick and didn't work anyways.

3 days ago I tried the hydrogen peroxide mixed with distilled H20 (1/2 and 1/2 mix) and douched (never done that before!) and IMMEDIATELY the smell was gone and my vagina felt like it did years ago! I was thrilled! I went to the store and bought probiotics took one orally and upon others recommendations put one in my vagina at bedtime. I used the pearl capsules. The next morning I woke up burning and itching like I had a major yeast infection. I douched with the peroxide mix and felt better. I took another probiotic that day orally, NO MORE in the crotch! I think that did me in for the yeast infection.I also used a dose of monistat the 2nd night to fight any yeast infection that may have been brewing down there. So I'm on day 4 of taking probiotic once a day orally and douching maybe once a day with the peroxide mix. I have to say I think this is working!!!! I'm so happy I have my normal happy good smelling crotch back! It was so embarrassing before. I always worried about the smell and the pain during sex. My husband and I had sex on day 3 and I had 0 pain!!! I made him wash himself downthere very good before sex.

I'm really hoping this continues to work for me, I'm so scared to get BV back. It's nasty, embarrassing and just plain miserable.I'm going to try to continue taking the acidophilus pill (probiotic) daily, and only douche when I feel BV coming on.

PLEASE...if your having the same problems give the hydrogen peroxide mixed with distilled water a try! I couldn't believe the IMMEDIATE relief I had. On a side note, don't be afraid that the hydrogen peroxide is bad for you. It occurs naturally in the vagina and we get yeast and bacterial infections when levels are too low. The point of the acidophilus pills (probiotics) is to increase these good bacteria that produce hydrogen peroxide.

Hydrogen peroxide only works temperarily. It like cleans the vaginal walls out of the acidic discharge, but wait a day and it will come right back.

Dong Quai Herb twice a day, and a good, (atleast $30 bottle of acidophilus is important too) The pearls are good. I use "Femdophilus" Jarrow brand.

Goldenseal Herb and Echinacea for no more than a month, is good. 350mg pills, three capsule, three times a day, and Goldenseal ticture, filled in an empty "00" gel caps, 2 to 3 times a day everyday along with the echinacea. Its an infection!! The bacteria must be killed off

Bv cure

The struggle is real.
I finally found what works.
Was on a peroxide douche for two years.
Pure 3% peroxide about 10-15 cc / Per day douche . That controlled it but not totally cured.
This time, I added ten drops tea tree oil . That made a difference but still not totally cured.
Then I decided to use the organic tea tree essential oil and chose a good brand. Ten drops mixed in 15cc, 3% hydrogen peroxide.
That finally cured it! At first I seemed to develop a fungal infection, I got really thick, feta cheese like consistency. The smell is just gone, never came back. The thick diischarge
Was gone after a week. After that everything was back to normal.
I hope this helps helps someone!

Ladies, if you are like me you have tried everything under the sun to find a solution to this very uncomfortable problem that interferes with your life beyond sex and including sex. I was beyond annoyed. I have found the solution for ME, and I think it is something you may want to try as well because once I realized my problem I felt really, well....dumb. So my problem has been persistent for over 6 months. I tried probiotics (didn't notice any benefits) ate yogurt which I HATE (no change), cut out sugar, took yeast infection tablets (this did work, but it was only temporary....took away odor and discharge but you must be diligent AND the box tell you it's not a cure) did hydrogen peroxide douches (once again temporary solution, in combination with the yeast infection tablets, I did find relief about 3 to 4 days at a time). Just as I was about to try and eat some bentonite clay (I was losing my mind by this point) my cycle started. I decided to stop the tablets and take IRON pills. Yes ladies IRON!!!!

I'm anemic and have always been, but never followed doctors orders to take the supplements because the prescribed dosage always made me sick. It wasn't until several friends had blood transfusions that I got scared and got serious about taking care of my body. As a result, after my 5 day cycle I noticed that I didn't have any discharge, or smell. It has been 8 days and I'm still feeling like a lady. LOL.

Now before I realized that iron was MY solution, I did a ton of research online, went to the doctor and was never pointed in the direction that my anemia could be the cause of the discharge. However after I suspected the iron was the reason it went away, I searched anemia and vaginal discharge. Low and behold it's all over the place that this could be the cause. How ironic....I could have saved hundreds of dollars, months of discomfort, and a lot of time because while I was looking for a miracle drug, the whole time I had bottles of iron in my medicine cabinet.

I take one 45mg tablet per day and so far this has been working. Not only has it gotten rid of the problem, but I'm also gaining the other health benefits that I always needed. I would definitely look into this if you are anemic. I'm happy to report this news as I promised myself I would report if anything truly worked and if I run into any bumps in the road with the iron I will report back, but so far.....8 days has been the longest I've been pantyliner, discharge, and odor free in months.

I've read that kefir has better staying power than yogurt, so I wanted to suggest ladies utilize kefir rather than yogurt for bv treatment. And that some strains of probiotics produce hydrogen peroxide, which strains are probably preferred.

The box of Bv cream from the store came with reusable applicator tubes that can be used for applying yogurt or kefir, etc. rather than a syringe if you don't find one.

If the Bv returns during your period you could try treating rectally those days. For example, mince fresh garlic, let stand 10 minutes to activate, add to olive oil and apply as retention enema.

Thank you for the wonderful website!

Cure BV with Kefir. Plain Kefir has more probiotics than anything you can buy in a pill. Drink it in the morning before your meal and at night before you go to bed. Make suppositories with Kefir and a drop of oil of oregano at night for 7 days to kill the bacteria and restore the friendly bacteria all at once. (mix the oil of oregano with the keifer and store it in the freezer). Break off a piece at night and insert it. (only use a drop of oil or it may be too irritating) Buy sulfate free, and a propylene glycol free body products. Follow a ph balanced diet, and avoid sugar when you can. Add peroxide to your final rinse with your laundry to kill bacteria that may still linger in these items. Avoid tampons. Make kefir a part of your every day drink and it will not return.

Bacterial vaginosis is caused from an imbalance in the pH, period (no pun intended). Therefore, any treatment should focus on balancing the pH. I've narrowed my causes down to ANYTHING that alters the pH with blood, lubricants, & soap as my biggest culprits.

I spent years doing allopathic remedies for BV and at-home experiments, to no avail. I briefly got rid of the BV for a couple of months after a painful experiment putting an ascorbic acid suppository internally, but it came back. A few months back I moved to a cervical barrier method of BC, but refused to use that N9 spermicide. After much research I located an approved contraceptive gel out of Canada (Contragel) that used ALL naturally derived ingredients. It is pricey, but I figured it was worth not using N9. The main ingredient, "lactic acid". At the time, I had no idea it would work to treat BV. I did a "test" by using a medicine syringe as an applicator (discard after use or sterilize) to put the gel internally and see if I had any reactions, prior to putting it to "formal" use. I woke up the next morning with ZERO BV symptoms and at the time I had both BV and a yeast infection confirmed through a pap, but I had refused to take the pills this time. BOTH were gone and I was actually left with a pleasant sweet odor (the lactic acid).

What I've learned after extensive research that focused on actual lab studies and NOT person dependent testimonials:

*Stop putting ANYTHING that is not pH balanced anywhere near your lady parts. This includes lubricants used by doctors or rad. techs for U/S. Medical professionals think I am crazy for refusing, but it's not that uncomfortable or I bring my own lubricant (recipe below).

*Use water to wash yourself or make your own lactic acid based soap (recipe below). You can also buy Vagisil pH balanced type washes, but they have a bunch of chemicals in them usually or rip you off price wise.

*Probiotics will NOT make their way to your lady parts, so that is a waste of money and you should take ones that will colonize your GI track or use them vaginally (OBGYN taught me this).

*PREbiotics (FOS and GOS) WILL make their way into the lower colon to feed the good bacteria that will make their way to your lady parts. There are many effective studies on the use of PREbiotics for BV treatment (orally & vaginally).

*Use non-lubricated condoms with a homemade pH balanced lubricant or the Contragel spermicide (more expensive). After much research I came up with the following recipe: 91% Distilled water, 5% coconut water, 1% ACV, . 16% non-GMO glycerin, 2% lactic acid, 0.25-3.0% Sorbic Acid until pH is at 4. You can use non-aluminum baking soda to increase pH if you get it too low. Store in fridge or add appropriate broad-spectrum antimicrobial, if concerned. Put it in a container that will not expose the lubricant to air or your hands (like a bottle with pump or serum bottle).

*Make suppositories or gel to use vaginally AFTER you've been exposed to anything that may increase your pH above 4. 5. With research I developed this recipe: 73% Coconut oil, 25% FOS and/or GOS (hard to find, but Bimuno is 100% GOS from Europe), 2% lactic acid. A study also showed that the EO, Palmarosa, was beneficial in combatting candida strains, in vitro, so you could add a few drops of this too, if you're worried about yeast. This is oil based, so do not use it before intercourse, if using a latex condom.

*Take FOS and/or GOS daily to feed probiotics

That's it. The protocol you use should focus on pH, no matter what. You can buy pH strips to test everything too. Good luck and I hope this helps you.

I am a women's healthcare practitioner and I have seen some women that just have chronic BV and/or yeast that no medication or remedy can help. I truly believe that the lack of acknowledgement of biofilms and sexual transmission is preventing these women from being cured. The study that "proved" men don't pass it back to their female partner was greatly flawed. Don't be afraid to question your doctors, they don't know everything. The best doctors are the ones who don't pretend to know everything, the ones who stay up to date and are always willing to learn. I learn things from my patients all the time.

Please read this article to have a greater understanding on why BV and candida are so difficult to treat.

https://academic.oup.com/cid/article/61/4/601/330070/Biofilms-An-Underappreciated-Mechanism-of

It angers me to no end that women are on the low end of the spectrum when it comes to research. We have plenty of options for male sexual dysfunction on the market but ask big pharm how the research into biofilms for vaginal health is coming along and you will hear crickets.

Discuss these ideas with your doctors and midwives, some of them are researchers and perhaps you will the plant the seed in their mind. They may not agree at first but the more we talk about this the more chance we have of finding a cure.

Hi ladies! If you're on this site, you were like me, struggling to get rid of this stupid bv! I went to the gyn for a yeast infection and I found out I had bv as well! I took both the oral and vaginal medication for this! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't insert anything into the vagina including the peroxide! Your vagina is super sensitive.. I tried folic acid, probiotics, inserting vitamin c, I can't even remember all that I did! I got BV in December 2014 and it is now June 2015. but for 2 months all I've been doing is drinking lemon water! FRESH lemons. What I do is squeeze 1-2 fresh lemons into water from my tap and add a little sugar and it tastes like lemonade honestly! I do that everyday and my symptoms have gone away! Minimal discharge!!!!!!! I never experienced the fishy smell though. But PLEASE try this. I went online everyday for hours looking for a cure and I just thought that this would be something I would have to deal with forever. But I drink the lemon water, I don't use soap when I wash myself down there in the shower and I ALWAYS pee & shower after sex. PLEASE try these tips. I was just like you a couple months ago. good luck girls! I completely know what youre going through

My bv problem got out of control again. So decided to drink as much lemon and water as possible. I believe I have BV because my body is very acidic and I'm in need of more alkaline foods(google it). So far I'm far less itchy. Try more alkaline foods and stop eating acidic foods

After countless remedies that all do seem to help, I think I finally stumbled onto something that cured my BV for good. Lemon juice. One whole medium sized lemon squeezed in a large bottle of water drank all day everyday for 7 days, will cure BV. Whenever I feel it comin on, I do it, until symptoms are gone. Ive done coconut oil, oregano oil, every kind of vitamin, yogurt, capsules in the vag, boric acid, tea tree oil, apple cider vinegar and peroxide douches, ALL OF IT. Vitamin C, is the most important thing. And alot of it.

I have used dilute lemon juice (jif) to cure thrush for 20 years. I got BV (smell of fish) a couple of months ago for the first time in my life. Around Christmas it occurred to me that if it was caused by pH imbalance, then the lemon juice might work on BV too. It did. I wiped with unfragranced baby wipes onto which I squirted Jif lemon and lime juice. My BV disappeared in 24 hours and I'm back to my old familiar smell. Please pass this on.

Hello sisters. I just came down with BV for the first time in my life. I feel all of your pain. BV is unacceptable! I strongly believe the underlying problem that causes BV (and tons of other ailments) is an overly acidic body. The standard American diet (SAD) perpetuates an acidic body, which is a favorable environment for bacteria and viruses. Healthy body functions depends on an ALKALINE environment. You do need to shift your diet if you want to beat BV for the long haul. There is lots of info online about which foods help promote an alkaline body. You need to eliminate all of the things that we intuitively know are bad - sugar, coffee, processed foods, dairy, meats, bread. Sorry, I know this sounds impossible. Also, try reading "The pH Miracle" by Robert Young. A quick way to alkalize your body is a lemon/baking soda concoction. Add about a 1/2 tsp of baking soda to a glass of water with half or whole fresh lemon. Sweeten with a couple drops of stevia if necessary. I drink this twice a day when I feel a cold coming on and it stops it every time. I also eat several cloves of raw garlic. So the moral of the story - ALKALIZE ALKALIZE ALKALIZE. I promise you will feel better. Good luck.

Lifestyle Changes

I think to keep BV from completely coming back there needs to be a whole lifestyle change. Everyone just focuses on killing the bacteria which is absolutely necessary but the infection is the symptom of something larger. Everything plays a part in how our bodies function. Diet, physical exercises, emotional balance and our immune system all play a part. While trying to eradicate the infections I think we need to watch what we put in our bodies. How many chemicals are you consuming, what type of meat are you eating, how many carbs and sugar are you ingesting, what are you drinking, are you consuming organic veggies or ones covered in pesticides? Emotional balance is a tough one since we are all so depressed and devastated from the infection but this is a big one. Meditation, visualization of a healthy whole you, yoga, Qi Gong are all very balancing practices. Yoga will check off two boxes as it's physical and emotionally balancing. Positive thinking (again, hard to do when you feel awful but necessary) and positive affirmation go a long way. Loving your body. Thanking it and cherishing it and being kind to it and understanding is so important. It's so easy to be angry with it since we feel like it is the enemy when things like this happy. Here is how Louise Hay explains Vaginitis:

Really take care of your body on every level. Don't just drink ACV for a day or so and stop because it didn't fix it. Continue. It's healthy for you. Don't just take Folic Acid for a week and stop because it didn't work. Your body needs it. Continue. Build the immune system. Take probiotics because your body needs it. There are cheap ways...fermented veggies, kefir and homemade yogurt are all less expensive ways to get lots of probiotics into your system. we live in a world of info and youtube is a great reference to learn how to make all these things. Youtube is also a great reference for self healing mediation and to watch videos on emotionally healing the self.

Dr's don't have all the answers. They know the body technically and are told by the drug companies what to give their patients. Not that they don't care but they have very limited knowledge. We've become a very "band-aid" society where we fail to find the root cause and just mask it with medication. This goes for most ailments.

I think we need a full body, mind and soul attitude to heal ANYTHING. It takes time and practice and is a huge commitment and a big lifestyle change. To me it's totally worth it.

BV:

I had this horrible problem for many years but recently I read that lemon water (I drink lime water) will balance your PH. I started drinking the lime water about a month and half ago but saw little to no improvement. 5 days ago, after washing my private parts with soap and water, I decided to rub what was left of the half lime that I used to make my lime water on the outside of my private part and let it air dry and dress as normal and within 24 hours all the smell was gone and it has not come back. I do this every day now. This has been a miracle cure for me after suffering for about 15 years. I urge women to try this before inserting anything into their vagina. Limes are natural and cheap and maybe you can stop buying all those expensive products that don't work anyway.
