U got to be kidding me.I can't not believe it! It is finally gone. My bv left in one day! I don't know to be happy that others suffer from this or not! I did the folic acid, perixiode and acidoliphis (sorry for mispellig). I'm cured. I'm still taking the pills and I only douche after sexual intercourse because it trows your ph level off. I'm happy again. Tell a friend!

I have been battling bv for approx. 13 years!!!! i have been back and forth to several doctors and even to a specialist in urology!! i have spent sooo much money on doctor visits and prescriptions. i have taken everything possible: metrogel, clindesse, flagyl, metronidizole, rephresh, etc... it all only worked temporarily. as soon as the bv would clear up and i would have sex... 3 days later it would come right back. i have had the same partner for 7 years and have not slept with anyone else. using condoms helps somewhat, but not all of the time. i found this site while desperately searching for some help. this has caused great depression in my life as well as strain on my relationship. my sex life has suffered tremendously, but my partner is really supportive and understanding. he just wants me to try and get to the bottom of this. i have been taking the folic acid and acidopholus pills for about 3wks. now. i started taking them after clindesse cleared up my last bout with bv. i had not had sex in about a month and just had sex this morning. i only washed my private area with hydrogen peroxide after sex, because i did not have a douche bottle. i hope and pray the folic acid and acidopholus pills work at preventing bv from recurring!!! i will post back in a few days to let you all know. if this works i will forever be grateful! this bv problem is really annoying and it ruins my sex life.

This question is in regards to the question and comment by "stylist from Indianapolis.... I have the same issue myself I have not yet tried the peroxide/H20 but have the Flagyl it worked but like Stylist said after sex the odor and discharge came back ! So now my question is does anyone out there know if this may be caused by the mens side?

Hi - it is possible to continue to get infections after i/c....you may be passing the infection back and forth...you should have him do a course of soaks along with you. Also, anything that changes your PH may be causing the re-occurences as well - these include condoms, gels, pre-ejec fluid, your own vaginal lubrication, etc...

I suggest you treat both of you simultaneously for 7 days....then when you resume i/c do a soak / flush (both of you) and see if the BV stays away that way.

Good luck

Yes. BV can be caused or contracted from the man. It is your bacteria and his mixing together that causes it. Having the same partner is great, but are you his only partner? And your diet is 99% of the reason for BV. Look into what you are eating and your mate should as well...

I have suffered from BV for close to 10 years but was too embarassed to say anything to a doctor until this summer. Frankly, I thought they would know since they were rooting around down there during exams! At any rate, I was given antibiotics that didn't work. This issue has greatly affected my life. I saw this website Saturday afternoon and tried the douche of 1/2 water and 1/2 3% hydrogen peroxide. I am also taking Folic acid and Acidophullus (sp?). It is now Monday night and the smell is virtually gone. I will continue to do this teatment and will report any hanges (good or bad.) It may be premature to say this, but I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders.

Thanks to someone that pointed me to this site and the site itself I tried the 1/2 peroxide and water douche. I saw immediate results no odor what so ever. I felt so fresh and clean. I also took a double dosage of Folic Acid and Acidophilis. I will update in a few months on my progress. However immediately I can tell a difference. Thank you so much to all!

I have a question to everyone using the hydrogen peroxide douche. Are you using the food grade peroxide or the 3% peroxide found in drug stores?

EC: 3% drug store, definitely not food grade!

I personally use food grade hydrogen peroxide as the pharmacy bought stuff (generally in the brown bottles) is full of toxic stablizers. Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide is purchased online or at natural food stores. I recommend getting the 35% and diluting down (with distiled water only! ) to 3% (3% is the same strength as whats in the brown bottles. Using 35% straight without dilluting will burn you, and should be handled with care. It is very concentrated).

Once diluted to 3%, I use that straight. I don't do a 50/50 mix with water. I also took acidophilus, and in one day it cleared up a combo yeast and bv infection. First go. I've never experienced anything like this before. It took about 3 days to heal the damaged tissue on the outside of my vagina, but once the infection was gone (instantly) it started healing, and was better in no time. I can't say enough good things about it. YAY for sure!!!

Wow! Hydrogen Peroxide seems to work for me. I've battled yeast/bv for the last 4 years, and I am 23 now! It seems to me that it's my boyfriends chemistry. I have always been the relationship type and have had 3 serious boyfriends. The first.. I had noooo problems with yeast, or bv!! The second, and now my current one... Like whoa.. Every time we have sex I get worried... Which is a lot. I'm not over weight, or unhealthy... So it sucks to face a reoccurring problem and not be sure of the triggers!!! Anyways ladies, I feel your pain... It's no fun to smell, or be itchy... Or feel unsexy!! Luckily I don't have much trouble being open about this sort of thing. I volunteer at a sexual health service... And I'm in my last year of a cell and molecular bio degree... Sooo I know... A lot... A lot... About stds, gential infections.. And microbes!! And I know.. Regular douching is definitely not recommended... It can induce new oppurtunisitic bacteria into your vaginal canal, which may even bypass your cervix. Problems.. PID, or parasitic bacterial colonial growth! Not fun, and dangerous!!!!! Shower heads actually contain these oppurtunisitic bacteria I am referring to, in biofilm for! Biofilms are up and coming in biomedical research as the films make it difficult for antibiotics to penetrate and kill the colony. So, for the love of your lady parts, do not m------e with a shower head!!!!! Only use clean, sterilized toys!!! Anyways, with my knowledge about bacteria... This may help you guys... Bacteria have particular growth phases, which begins with a lagging growth, exponential growth, a peak and then death as all the nutrients of the surrounding environment are usually 'used' up. Some bacteria do survive, of course.. And this is what causes the next flare up when conditions in your vagina are favourable for the bad bacteria causing bv (ie. Good temp, abundance of nutrients, no toxins). Basically bacteria are at a tug of war in the vagina... Producing by-products from their metabolism to keep one another at bay... Hydrogen peroxide is produced by lactic acid catabolizing bacteria.. So we want these guys nice and healthy to combat the guys causing the fishy, odour and slight discomfort. I was never a fan of antibiotics... They are over prescribed sadly, and bacteria replicate so quickly, it's no wonder they've evolved and adapted so quickly to maintain their replicative properties in regards to antibiotic exposure... Anyways, that's why I believe hydrogen peroxide is a great solution.. Rather than dosing the entire body with an antibiotic that has side-effects and also may inhibit growth of the good hydrogen peroxide producing bacteria we are deficient in during the time of infection!! Anyways, I tried it with a douche (50 3% h2o2/50 tap h20). Also, I soaked a tampon in it over night.. I've got to say.. This was my first time ever douching, and it was a bit uncomfortable... But I feel like even this morning my vagina doesn't have an odour, and looks really great! So, I don't recommended douching of you are healthy.. But as a local treatment for bv, I feel like there are significant advantages over metrodiazole... 1. Doesn't kill the bacteria we want, 2. No nasty stomach upsetting side effects, 3. Immediate results and relief, 4. It's mimics the lactic acids bacteria natural defense to the bad odourous bacteria. I do want to touch on the lactobacillus acidophilus as well.... I talked about the growth cycle of bacteria earlier in this discussion and this is reallllyyyyy reallllllyyyyy important to keep in mind when purchasing 'active/live' bacterial cultures! If they are in a bottle on the shelf at room temperature.. They are dead.. Gone.. Do not buy it!! Do not waste your money!!!!!!! Incubation temps of this bacteria are notttttttttt at that temperature, and without a complex medium to serve its metabolic needs (as it's stuffed in a capsule) it is goooonnnnneeeeeeee. Only buy ones chilled/from a fridge so that the live cultures have been basically stunted in growth(kept in lag phase) until they reach favorable temps. So only by chilled capsules and keep then in the fridge until uou use them, also check the expirary dates (look for the newest batch! ). In yogurt their growth is also stunted because of the low 4-7 C temp of your fridge! They are lactic acid bacteria (produce hydrogen peroxide) which is what we want, and they survive best at body temp 37 C!!! Anyways.. I can't remember if I have much else to say, I wish you all good luck in yor vaginal health, and sanity!!! I feel your frustrations, as this drives me crazy sometimes!!! Just talk to your doctor if you have reservations, but use every source available to you! You have to be the advocate of your own health, be educated, and know your body! I hope I helped some one :) peace and love!!! Xox

I tried what I had noticed everyone seemed to be recommending as the best cure for BV which is Folic Acid, Acidophillus probiotic and douching with half water and half 3% hydrogen peroxide. I read the board last night after searching endlessly for a home remedy for this annoying problem.

Everything I read said the only way to cure this was with anti-biotics and I just couldn't see that working since it was taking anti-biotics for a nasty throat infection that brought this on in the first place - 3 months ago! At first I thought it was just a yeast infection, so I used an OTC treatment for that and the itching and redness subsided for a few days but the discharge and smell were still persistent. Some days it was hardly noticeable but other times it was embarassing! My boyfriend (monogamous relationship) works away for months at a time and this happened right after he had left. He came home at Christmas and noticed something was off and the smell was SO much worse during intercourse. I just kept thinking it would go away on its own and also thought how could something cure it when its also something that caused it?! I understand different anti-biotics work for different things, but I wasn't about to take any chances with suffering for any longer. So when I came across this website with SOOO many positive testimonials for this cure, I immediately ran to the pharmacy! I took 2 Folic Acid tablets (1mg each=1000mcg)and 2 Acidophilus probiotic tablets (500 million organisms per tablet) as soon as I got in the car and came home and douched with the water and peroxide. Things seemed better right away! I let myself air dry and slept without underwear because I heard its good to let the air circulate, and woke up this morning DRY with no signs that there was ever a BV infection whatsoever! I'm soooo amazed and soooo grateful for this site!

I am going to continue the acidophilus till I run out and hopefully all should be well and balanced and I am also going to continue the Folic Acid tablets since I am hoping to be pregnant in the near future! I'll keep you all posted on my situation but thanks to everyone for sharing! And good luck to everyone else who is dealing with this nasty little feminine problem! Take care!

I am 35 and have been dealing with BV since about age 22!! I have been in a relationship with the same man for 11 yrs, thankfully he has been VERY understanding!!! There would be so many times I thought that I was fine till we got intimate, then we would smell it:( As the rest of the women stated, the doctors are idiots on the treatment!! The flagyl was the most disgusting pill to take then it would come right back with in 2 weeks. When I found this website and read about the acidophilus, folic acid and hydrogen peroxide douche, and a pH balanced wash, I went out that day a purchased everything!! That was one month ago. I have not had any signs of BV since I started doing all of these things. My partner and I thank you soooo much!!! Our time together in the bedroom has started getting back to normal and it is wonderful, no worries anymore. You couldn't pay me to stop now!!! Thank you, Thank you, Thank You!!! I love me again, I feel clean all the time again, life is great!

I tried the 1/2 and 1/2 method on a tampon and left it in for 20 minutes. I did this for 2 days. On the third day, I had intercourse without a bad smell. However, following intercourse I began burning in my vagina and considered yeast. There was no discharge so it was puzzling. The next day I woke up with burn-like areas to my vaginal canal (I do not have herpes I assure you). Anyone experience this with the tampon method? I realized I used scented and fear it caused a reaction :/

For over a year I had been experience itching and smelly vaginal discharge after my menstrual cycle and intercourse. It would eventually subside but it always came back. Finally I decided to go to the doctor. She perscribed a very expensive ($75) one time vaginal cream. It worked for about two days and the symptoms returned. I decided to go to earth clinic to see what I could find. Immediately I found a cure. The best thing to do is use the hydrogen peroxide, acifidopholis, and folic acid method. Imediately upon purchase I took two acifidopholis pills (100mg ea) and 800mg of folic acid. The itching stopped in about 15 minutes. I ran home and did the 1/2 H2o2 1/2 H2O douche and the discharge was gone. To stay on the safe side I douched one more time the following day and have been on the pills twice a day. It has only been three days and I feel great! Thank you to all the readers who share their remedies!!

This absolutely works!! I experienced the same issues and had to buy a cream that cost over $100. I found this site b/c the symptoms came back. Using the folic acid with the Acidophilus and the 1/2 H20 and H2O douche will resolve the issue. It seems as though the Acidophilis and Folic Acid is key. The douche will help get a grip on the smell and itchy irritation. I ended up having to double up on the Folic Acid and Acidophilis. Once I was confident it was gone I started taking two Acidophilis pills and 400 mg of Folic Acid. Chances are your doctor is correct. It is most likely the lack of Folic Acid in your diet that is causing the BV.

I was first diagnosed with BV when I was 18... Nothing worked to cure it. I too was on antibiotics and finally told there was no cure. I was desperate and sick of having it. When I turned 30 I stumbled upon a remedy similar to the one above. I used the douch for a week 3x's a day. Instead of taking the folic acid orally I inserted the dose 2x's a day into the vagina after each douch. I took the recommended dose of acidiphillous orally. I finished the bottle of probiotics and that's it. Two years later the BV still hasn't come back!

Oh my goodness I am going to try this. I think I've been dealing with BV since I was 21 and I'm 26 now. So what...five years of itching, disgusting discharge, gross.

In the past 9 months the discharge has been HORRIFIC. It's a horrible color (greenish yellow) and very watery and drippy sometimes. I've also noticed that it seems to be worse after I have sex with my current bf and there is a disgusting fishy odor that has NEVER been present before. It makes me not want to sleep with him or anyone.

I've also noticed an ammonia-like smell to my discharge sometimes. It seems to be the worst right before my period, clear up during menstruation, and then returns in the middle of my cycle. The discharge and the odor is the worst, it is quite alarming.

My STD tests always come back negative, but I'm almost positive that I had a re-occurence of BV somewhere in those 4 years that was never properly cured, then was aggravated by someone, I don't know who. I don't want to put antibiotics in my body only to have them not work when I desperately need them to. It's happened to me before with yeast infections. So I am going to try the Hydrogen Peroxide, Apple Cider Vinegar and water douche, along with some Greek Yogurt on the 'off days'. Tired of dealing with this!!!

I CANNOT thank everyone who contributed to the BV Cure thread and spoke about their issues. I believe my issues have been going on and off for over ten years; BTW, I am not even thirty. I contribute the bulk of my issues to sex & BCP.

This had become so much of an issue, I was wearing liners everyday and the smell was so embarrassing.

I first douched with one part water to one part hydrogen peroxide. The smell was evident and there was some stinging but I could tell it was working. The first few days I took double dosages of Folic & Acidiphilous.

By day two, there was very little discharge throughout a whole day and virtually no smell. Almost a week later, everything is gone. On top of that, my skin seems to be more receptive to perfums and my body will carry the scent longer (than what I am used too). Not sure if that is related.

Now, I try to douche every 3 days with the hydrogen peroxide and water mix. On off days, I will shower and my private area with peroxide. And I typically will use peroxide wipes during bathroom visits.

I am just relieved to know I am not plagued with this issue!

At last! I have been looking for a more natural rememdy to BV that keeps coming back. Have tried tea tree oil, vinegar, antibiotics, but it just keeps coming back and I'm sick of it.Tried Rephresh - ph balancing gel - which works while I use it but the smell and discharge come back as soon as I stop using that. So I started taking probiotics two days ago, and have some hydrogen peroxide, which I will try as a douche. Also will get folic acid and acidophilus. Hope this works. I am 55 and never had BV until a couple of years ago. Antibiotics worked once but earlier this year it came back and second lot of antibiotics only worked temporarily. And who wants to take those anyway! Thanks, ladies - looking forward to having a tidy vee-jay again!

I have had bouts of BV for the past 6 months chronically. It was first noticed after my boyfriend and I first got together. About 3 wks after we started having sex, I got BV. I was treated with Clindesse the 1st time and it went away. It came back 2 wks later, with a vengeance. I went back to the Doc and she gave me Metrogel. She told me that if it came back she'd consider treating my partner. He is uncircumcised, and she informed me that he can harbor the bacteria easier in his foreskin and keep reinfecting me. Needless to say, he was treated and I still got BV again. So, I searched multiple sites and did a home treatment. I bought a regular box of Massengil douche (just for the bottle), bottle of 3% hydrogen peroxide and a bottle of acidophilus pills. I did one douche of half peroxide and half water (bottled). Then I followed it with all warm water and 4 acidophilus pills emptied into the water. I did this for only 4 days in a row (just to make sure it was gone). I had no smell instantly after it... the itchiness/irritation was completely gone the next morning. It has been 3 months since I did this and I've had no other episodes! Not only am I happy, but so is my boyfriend, and certainly my sex life!!!

I have been suffering with BV for about a year and a half now and have done tons of research and discovered ultimately that it must be my birth control causing the B. I found information that could be true although my doc told me it wasn't possible. I came across this site because my relationship with my boyfriend has suffered as a result of this. I am trying the hydrogen peroxide at this moment and I stopped taking my pills about a month ago so I am still waiting for it to completely get out of my system. I also bought some folic acid and garlic tablets. We will see how it goes. I thought I was running out of options!

I must say after suffering from BV for so many years I was really tired and fed up. At this time I do not have any insurance and was suffering from BV for about two (2) days. I was trying to find a location that would sell me over the counter medications to cure BV was instead I came across this web and read all of the comments and home remedies. I must say I rushed to Walgreens where I purchased the Folic Acid and Probiotic Acidophillus, came home douched with half water and peroxide. Took the pills and I feel clean and fresh. No discharge so smell after a couple of hours. It has been 3 days now and still nothing. Thank you so much for this helpful information. May God Bless you all.

I started having a fishy odor and discharge a few months ago. I at first thought it was because my period was about to begin but when my period ended and the symptoms were still present I got worried. I went to the doc., got tested was told I have BV and she of course prescribed me an antibiotic..I started using home remedies a year ago after a nasty reaction to penicillin because of strep throat (which of course caused me to get a yeast infection..) I found this website before takin the drug she prescribed and based on what others wrote it seems that it may not have helped. I tried the Hydrogen peroxide and H2O, plus I bought folic acid pills and acidophilus. THe first time I used it the odor was gone. I used half Hydrogen peroxide and half H2O in a douche. I could see the discharge coming out. I didnt feel any pain thankfully but I sure felt alot cleaner. By the second night the discharge became thinner. I did the douche for three nights only and now a month after starting the hydrogen peroxide and H2O, plus the pills I feel, look, and smell normal again. I continue to take the pills daily. I made an appointment to make sure the BV is gone, but I feel so happy again... I am thankful I found this site.

All I can say is AMAZING!!! Seems like for the past 2 years, any little things has been throwing me Ph off; even different types of spermicide from condoms. I would be so embarrassed when I would have to go to the doctor smelling like any pond in a local park (smyl). Last night I came across this website and began to read the posts. Ironically, I started noticing the smell two days prior. After reading the posts I immediately rushed to Walgreens where I purchased 800 mcg of Folic Acid, probiotic Acidiphollus and 3% peroxide. Upon returning home I mixed half water and half peroxide in a summer's eve container and douched twice. I waited approximately one hour for results of any kind. All I can say is WOW!!!! The discharge was gone, and the smell was VERY minimal (if you didn't know what u were looking for u wouldn't think there was a smell at all). I then took 1 800mcg Folic Acid pill and 1 Acidiphollus pill. It is now 10:42 a.m. and the smell and discharge is GONE!!!! I just took another dose of the pills after finishing breakfast and now I'm posting my comments. I never really belived in reading blogs and such but I'm so happy I did. I want to thank everyone for sharing this cheap, EFFECTIVE, home remedy as it has helped me tremendously. I plan to take the dosage of pills for the next week to ensure that my vagina in normally balanced; then I may consider taking them twice a week. Thanks to everyone who started Earth CLinic and thanks again to everyone who shared the remedy. I encourage any female with this problem to please try the remedy. What do you have to lose. I came across this website after searching endlessly for a cure for Bacteria Vaginosis. The culture test came back with Heavy Gardenella, which is BV. I've have this horrible smell and itch for 2 years. My bf noticed, and obviously he complained. So the doctor prescribed me metrogel, which worked... but it came back after 4 weeks!! Dammit! Again, I went to see him and complained, and he prescribed it again. I didn't use it this time... I had to give Folic Acid and Acidophilus a shot! As soon as I read this, I went to CVS and bought Folic Acid 800mcg, Acidophilus probiotic and last by not least 3% Hydrogen Peroxide to wash down there with water. Just the first day I drank the pills and immediately the discharge was no longer watery, the smell went away, and the itch was gone!!!!!!! My GOD MY GOD why didn't the doctor tell me that all I needed was some good bacteria to fix my imbalance. This definitely restored my immune system and my LIFE BACK! I can't emphasize how joyful I feel, and I can finally say that my bf was incredibly happy and supportive. I now can celebrate christmas and new years with joy, instead of sadness. Thank you all for your valuable tips. I had been on four courses of antibiotics (metronadizole) in as many months. After finishing my last course on Monday morning by the evening the symptoms had re-occurred just as badly. I was at my wits end and finally decided to try to find a cure myself after being told by my doctor that it was caused by an imbalance in my system. I had also had a swab taken to confirm the presence of BV. I had tried the yogurt approach and although it worked for a few weeks my BV returned. After reading all your comments I went out on Tuesday morning and bought the hydrogen peroxide and made up the solution with water and used it to treat myself, as well as the folic acid. I had already been taking the Acidophilus capsules. However, all this combined seems to have made a remarkable difference. My symptoms have improved dramatically and I am going to continue with all of the above in the hope that it will finally rid me of it. This site was a godsend to me and I cant thank you enough. I wish you all well out there in our fight against this!

Alleyuia ! Thank God for this website. I too suffered from BV,10 years now. I visited with so many dr's and not one of them could give me a alternative. No explanations to why the imbalance, or how can I restore it.No, no,just a prescription knowing that you will be back. There was one dr that told me "it's impossible for you too have so many" how do you know that it's BV. Did he not hear me when I said that I have suffered with it for 10 yrs? You'd think I know, dah, anyhoo, after reading testimonials, I decided heck, what do I have to lose except for BV, so I tried the 1/2 & 1/2 water and peroxide& water,in the morning, plus folic acid & acidophillis (orally). My goodness what a difference, Thank You all for your suggestions, I pray that it will help others like myself... God Bless You Ladies...

I don't normally give comments back, but I am going to this time. I have had a yeast infection or BV for 4 days and thinking yeast first, I treated it with Monostat 1. It did not work, on the 4th day I was more miserable than I was on day one. I do not know how ladies put up with such a nasty condition for so long. Anyway, I dislike going to the doctors very much. I found this site and read your antidotes, then I found a medical site that backed the information about using a certain kind (that most people do not have) of H202 internally. I only have the 3% at home and that is what I used. The medical site does not recommend it for internal use. I do not own a baster or anything else like that. I used a tampon which I tried to soak with a solution of 50% bottled water and 50% H202, but I found it expanded too much in the applicator. In my frustration, I removed the tampon from the applicator and drenched it with straight H202 and used my fingers to push it up into my vaginal cavity. It was messy and a lot of liquid just came dripping back out. I also took paper towels and soaked them in staight H202 and methodically cleaned the entire external area from inside thigh to inside thigh and from start of pubic hair well past the anal opening. I let myself air dry then put on clean cotten underwear with a pad, and went to make a phone call, I talked for 67 minutes. During that time expanse there was a bit of a warm sensation that I felt and a bit of pain (like a cramping pain). After my call was over, I pulled the tampon out, then I literally dumped some more H202 over the entire external area and left myself air dry again. I woke this morning and have checked 3 times so far. No external cheesy stuff, no internal excessive white stuff, no musky smell, and I am pink again. I am going to the store to get some folic acid today also, but I did want to let you know of my success. P.S. I already eat Breyers probiotic yogurt daily regardless of state of health
