Emu Oil
Posted by Liddlekidle (Virginia Beach, Va, Usa) on 05/02/2012

[Eczema is listed on your emu oil page, but not psoraisis.]

I am a 54 year old female whose body erupted with a case of psoraisis upon moving from a Southern climate to a less Southern climate. (There is a history of psoriasis in the males in my family, but I had never had it before.)

I saw a doctor when my case quickly went from peeling "plaques" on my scalp, to my legs, back and stomach. The doctor gave me a mild steroid ointment and then progressed to much stronger steroid ointments and creams. I used the $600. Prescription shampoo and also a messy scalp oil. None of these things worked very well, if at all.

I trolled the psoriasis Web sites for alternative remedies and bemoaned getting the heartbreak of psoraisis after 54 years.

I tried tanning salons, an oil from India and glycerin. I also began taking vitamin D3 lozenges more regularly. None of these things worked.

THEN, purely by accident, I put some cracked heel foot softener on a bad patch on my thigh. I had purchased the foot softener at Walmart, 2 oz. For under $4. The softener contained emu oil and beeswax. The very next day, I noticed more improvement from this treatment than from any of the other things I had been using. I thought it was a fluke, so I continued to treat just that one spot more than once a day. WOW! That patch went away.

So I went back to the psoriasis cure Web sites and searched for emu oil. There it was, listed as a cure... For some, not all people. I also read a few medical study abstracts concerning the fact that emu oil absorbs through the skin very quickly.

I used up the 2 oz. of foot softener and cured all the patches on my body that I could reach. I also found a more expensive cream at the drugstore that was not yellow and greasy like the foot softener and contained a higher percentage of emu oil. Both of these cured all of my patches except for some hard to treat bumps left on my scalp. I never ended up buying 100% emu oil as the two weaker preparations worked for me. I continue to use both of them on any dry or suspicious-looking skin, and my heels!

Apple Cider Vinegar and Baking Soda

I have suffered from psoriasis for years but have been able to control it with different types of creams, lotions, antibiotics etc from doctors and skin specialists but lost faith a few years ago & thought their must be an alternative out there and decided to research on the internet. I found aloe vera gel to be wonderful for 4-5 years but psoriasis always needs a change in treatment methods after a while so after having a terrible outbreak on my face (which I have always dreaded) I decided to try a Paw Paw cream (which featured on tv about a month or so ago), its described as liquid gold. I was still wearing makeup during the week so I didnt see a speedy improvement until I stopped wearing makeup and read about apple cider vinegar which I use for my scalp but never thought to mix with baking soda & take internally. After my husband returned from being away all week he thought I was wearing makeup. My face looks fabulous after only 4 drink doses of ACV, using the pawpaw ointment twice daily, and moisturing with a sorbolene cream during the day to keep my face moisturised. Thanks to reading this site I will be able to wear makeup again next week.

For psoriasis, I have had very good luck by incorporating ACV orally twice a day and 2 Ayolic Garlic tabs twice per day. I drink the ACV with just a little bit of water. It's a bit strong but the results were rather dramatic. I thought I had yeast so I was taking these items to clear the yeast. Well my doctor has confirmed that it is NOT yeast and indeed psoriasis. I had it on the top of my penis under foreskin and on my feet. The doctor stated that both ingredients are anti inflammatory agents and that is why they were helping. Good luck folks.

Dietary Changes

Hi, I read your post. I went natural 16 months ago and am still trying to get to the bottom of it. I am currently 8 days into proper food combining. This is the key to it all. I eat fruits for breakfast and veggies and carbs or veggies and protein. Look up for more info. I was BLOATED after eating a regular meal and now after proper food combining I am not after 2 days. Hopefully in a month I will know if it is working. If not I'm going strictly vegan mostly veg til it clears. I was told that if you eat a plant based diet that you can cure cancer. Eating properly will boost the immune system to fight off anything. You have to clear out the garbage and yes your liver is probably struggling. How old did you get psoriasis? Good luck.

Apple Cider Vinegar, Enzymes

Organic Apple Cider Vinegar changed my life. I have spent the last year and a half watching the psoriasis on my face get worse. I would wake up in the morning and have skin the size of a fingernail peeling off the areas around my nose. I tried using makeup to cover it but I'm a guy and it wasn't all that successful and the makeup seemed to aggravate the skin and make it worse. I thought I'd have to either take drugs that were known for causing serious side affects (cancer, organ damage, etc) or accept the fact that my face was going to become horrible to look at. Then someone told me about Organic Apple Cider Vinegar.

I went to the store and bought some organic, unfiltered, with mother, Apple Cider Vinegar. I began by putting a little in the cap and then using my fingers to apply it topically to the affected areas. I also began consuming 1 tablespoon each morning diluted in a small glass of water (it tastes very bad so I brush my teeth immedately afterward). Within 3 days I was noticing an improvement. Within two weeks it was all gone. It's been over a month now and I still do the same routine. I think I wll for the rest of my life. It supposedly has many other health benefits. I cannot yet attest to them but for psoriasis, it changed my life.

Carole.... Will you please tell how you are taking cayenne for your psoriasis? Is it in a pill or just adding it to your food? Thank you.

I have had psorisis of the genital area for one and a half years. I hurt so bad when I have to go to the bathroom. I was talking to someone and she said that cayenne pepper made her friend's psoriasis go away. I have been taking it for two days now and for the first time, I have no pain in that area. I have been to 4 dermatoligists, many creams and shots and nothing worked. I am so relieved and happy that I finally found something to relieve my extreme pain.

Bee Propolis

I've had sores on my scalp for almost a year, I've tried everything, olive oil, oregonal oil, tea tree oil, medicated shampoos, ionic silver water, topical creams, nothing worked, tonight I applied liquid bee propolis and honestly is healing instantly, just rub it in, don't scratch and the results are amazing, I think I'm onto something here..!!!

Vitamin D
Posted by Courtney (Granite Bay, Ca) on 03/11/2012

You spoke of success with clearing your psoriasis after taking a liquid form of Vitamin D, but didn't say how much Vitamin D per day... 1, 000 IU's? 5, 000?

If you could post how much per day, that would be helpful. Thanks.

I had bloodwork done and was very deficient in Vitamin D. I have suffered from mild psoriasis for about 10 years. I recently had a small patch come up on my elbow. I have been taking liquid Vitamin D-3 bought at GNC for a few weeks and the psoriasis is gone. I take one dropper full a day under the tongue and let it absorb in.

Boric Acid
Posted by Col (Cairns, Qaueensland) on 03/03/2012

Hi Maria I got mine over the internet from 2 places, the only I went to 2 places was that the supplier in nsw was a bit slow and it turns out he was having trouble with computer, so I went to another site from memory it's called whelping supplies, its near you in victoria. I purchased it to try to kill off foot odour, I had been using borax on my scalp 2 tbl to a glass of water, every second day, so I thought I would try the boracic acid (aka boric acid powder), so far so good even if you have to use it every 5-7 days, its better than scalp psorasis, best of luck it works for me.

Thank you Earth Clinic for all the information you provide and all people who contribute any remedies that may have helped in their condition. I have been suffering with Psoriasis now since June of 2011, I know that is relatively small amount of time compared to so many. I just wanted to contribute my experience. In researching online I discovered that Psoriasis is a reaction to your bodies immune system being run down and so I could not perceive why the doctors would prescribe medicines and creams that would further run down your immune. I knew I wanted to address the inner problem which hopefully would solve the symptom, psoriasis.

I started seeing a doctor who's approach was nutrionally based. I have eliminated bread, milk and sugar from my diet, yes it was hard, and taken increased supplement including Omega 3's, Primrose Oil, Vit A, Folic Acid and DIGESTIVE ENZYMES. Also I have used primrose oil on my body along with a skin cream for sensitive skin. I have to admit it has taken a while I am now on my 10th week but my skin is finally clearing up. I would say it is 75% clear and added benefit I have lost over 20 lbs. I have abused my body all my life with junk food and have been obese for most of my adult life so this was quite a challenge but I can now say that I intend to maintain this dietary lifestyle as I can see what I was doing to my overall health and perhaps I could thank the psoriasis for the wake up call that caused me to ultimately change my ways. So I would urge any one who can relate to my post to please seek help from a more natural or dietary minded physician and I hope you can also experience the relief I have begun to have. Good Luck and God Bless!

I have had psorasis of the scalp for years. I have tried a lot of different treatments, even one I got from your site borax which works but I had to wash my hair every 2 days to keep it under control, just recently I tried boracic powder, 2 tsp in a cup of hot water allow it to cool then pour it onto my scalp and massage it in and leave it on my scalp for 15 minutes, I did this for 5 days, touch wood it's been 2 weeks now and no sign of the scalp psorasis.

I flushed my system well and truly!! I never eat junk food. No sugar; little if any fat and have been a vegetarian for many years. My particular bout of psoriasis is Koebners syndrome, caused by a reaction to minor surgery. It's just that it is taking longer to fix itself than usual. I'm now on Barley Grass and acidophilus. We will see what happens next.

Aloe vera, coconut oil and almond oil are all great for psoriasis. I use a ready made cream by mama nature specifically for psoriasis that contains all of these ingredients but I suppose you could get a recipe on the web that would show you how to combine these and make your own. Psoriasis runs in my family and I got it after suffering from stress. This cream has controlled the itching and has taken away a lot of the unsightly scales and redness that covered my arms and legs.

Avhan1, Please 1st cleanse your intestines then do a couple of liver cleanses & cleanse your kidneys & your problem should be solved & then start on a healthy diet without junk food & bread etc. , just eat fresh food & stay away from chemicals. All this info is on the net.

I have had every type of psoriasis that there is for forty years, including Koebners. Nothing but steroids have worked. BUT I have great news. I was given powerful steroid (betamethasone and cortisone combined) but told not to use it on my face. My outbreak extended over the whole of my body from scalp, lips (rare) face, to plaque psoriasis head to foot.

I have therefore had to rely on natural remedies for the face and lips. Aloe Vera applied to the face instantly gave relief from the itch but it made the skin dry and tight. I followed this with pure coconut oil. Between the two, my face has cleared completely in 6 days while my body is still slowly and nowhere near effectively being treated by steroids. I am also taking ACV and dandelion capsules for the liver, but if they were the major remedy I would have seen better results across my entire body. So for me the answer seems to be a combination of aloe vera gel and pure coconut oil. What a blessing! And I learned about it just from this site. Thank you all.

Multiple Remedies
Posted by Karen (Roscommon, Mi) on 02/11/2012

I wanted to leave an update on the posting I left a year ago about multiple remedies used for psoriasis.

By summer, my symptoms were completely gone and have never returned..

I no longer take Essiac (which I eventually found in pill form, making it much easier to take) and haven't needed to use the Apple Cidar Spray in forever. I was still soaking in salt water daily up until November.. I will return to that once spring hits (my excercise pool is in an unheated room). But I do still use lavender/chamomile body butter every morning and evening.

I have to believe it was the combo of these four remedies that finally did the job, since I had tried lots of other remedies prior to trying these four items.

I'm convinced, and my psoriasis free skin is all the proof I need! Natural remedies ROCK!!!

I use a pint about 2-3 cups of h2o2 in the bath water, use a rag to remove the scales without discomfort and for a few days it's at ease. I'm sure used often it would work a lot better. Does work with eczema great also.

Drank 2 tsps of natural ACV with 16 oz. of water each day and the red, painful, scaly condition just disappeared! This is the cloudy version of ACV with all the active nutrients. Not the clearer grocery store ACV. My skin was freaking me out and scary painful when acting up. And no I would not have believed something so simple would have worked.

Mid 50's, when the condition appeared. I thought this Psoriasis was going to flat out eat me alive! Other benefits came along with the ACV as well. Elated, and thinking there is something to keeping PH in balance I have seen mentioned often.

Banana peel rubbed on psoriasis, google it. I am in the process of noticing an improvement from doing it. It's worth a try.

Fasting will CURE psoriasis. It's hard to do tho. I was hospitalized for 3 months as a child due to my psoriasis, I have done PUVA, injections, and tons of horrible meds. Then I tried fasting. Cured it. There is a book on fasting called the miracle of fasting. GET IT.

Coconut Oil

On psoriasis:

Try taking cold processed virgin coconut oil 3 1/2 tablespoon daily continuously for at least a month.

Sip a lemon & a pinch of sea salt after to refresh your mouth.

Yes I agree with complete dietary changes. I read the book psoriasis free in 30 days and it didn't take that long, but I didn't eat any meat either and that could have sped up the process even more. I hade relief in days and clear skin 95% in two weeks. Also many ailments that I had for 20 years disapeared also and my energy level was through the roof!

White School Glue

Ive tried them all for Psoriasis, and nothing works. I decided that in order for the scales to grow they have to have air/ 02. So I got out my squeeze bottle of washable school glue. Just sorta squeezed in all the places on my scalp as well as one elbow last night. I got up this am and to my surprise I peeled the glue off my elbow and it was smooth as silk. Washed my hair (a couple of times:() and most of the scales were gone. I probably missed places. I used a lot of lotion today on my elbow and it's fine.

I just finished putting more glue on my elbow just in case, and a lot on my scalp. We will see in the morning. I hope this works.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Try a shampoo called kitikiti(pronounced "kitty kitty").

Use that shampoo twice a week along with the conditioner, if you want. But I just used the shampoo twice a week and in about a month my scalp had cleared up. I would suggest for african americans though that there is also a type of grease that this same company also makes that you can use after you wash your hair with the shampoo and dry it. It works very well. Anyone can also use this same grease on your skin.

I started having a rash and as it turns out it's psoriasis. Last week I started a combination of of both cider vinegar and coconut oil orally, per the site's recommendation. Well, there's a lot of different remedies there but upon reading them all these seemed likely to work.

Today I woke up to significantly clearer skin! I've heard that sunlight works too. (It's winter! ) Additionally, I applied the oil topically. Just wanted to give a shout of thanks! This condition is so gross It shut me down to the hopes of meeting someone to date. Of course more women have been flirting with me lately. Something about not being available...... ? What's the holistic approach to the opposite sex?

Glycerin
Posted by Maria (Vineland, New Jersey, Usa) on 10/24/2011

If you use a natural soap, you will be putting glycerin on your skin everytime you use it! The chemical reaction known as "saponification" creates soap and glycerin molecules from mixing water, lye and fat molecules. The makers of those "beauty" or "bath" bars that are sold, draw out the glycerin and use it to make lotions to rehydrate your skin, so they can increase their profits. I get my handmade, vegan, natural soaps for a great price.

Borax and White Vinegar

Washing Soda will be found near laundry products in supermarkets --very cheap too. I use it as an alternative to Softners in my washing machine ( very old method Granma's ) it actually softens the water it can also be used in foot spa's --softens hard skin.
