People are talking about dosage all day long, but no brand names. And when there is anything, the links are so old they are non-existent. The only one I found was Swanson. Linda.. I am not sure why that happened to you but for me I have been drinking three cups of chanca piedra tea every few days and I am expelling painful gallstones and a bunch of things..I am feeling this is amazing and I am going to keep doing it until my pain is gone.....
The only thing I can think of is maybe you are getting rid of toxins and you had this reaction. I don't know but for me its working well... and I do have high blood pressure but I wasn't using it for that.. maybe an extra bonus..

Well, it is a uterine relaxant and I read that the Amazonian use high dosages of it to induce abortion. Maybe you could try Apple Cider Vinegar or magnesium for the kidney stones? Because the stones are made of calcium, supporting with magnesium, which is antagonistic to it, might be a good idea.

Hi,
I just wanted to touch base with you-
I've been on 3 cups/day of chanca piedra tea + magnesium and potassium citrate daily for about a year now. There a no changes in 2.5cm. stone size according to ultrasound, although I don't know if density has changed. I will stick with it if this needs more time, or will increase dosage of tea if necessary. I am not in any pain at all, and don't mind continuing with this regimen, but would like to dissolve this boulder once and for all. I am hesitant to go the gallium nitrate route as I prefer a gentler way of dissolving such a large kidney stone. Can chanca piedra take this long to work? Thanks so much for your input.

Hi Debra...I'm afraid exporting/importing whole live plants/seeds from one country to another is extremely complicated, laden with rules, expensive and just not viable I'm afraid. It's also unlikely that Chanca piedra will ever be sold as a garden plant -- because it is a very plain plant that is essentially a weed with small flowers.
My opinion is that Chanca piedra might also grow in the jungle regions of northern Australia because chanca piedra also definitely grows in the western Pacific Rim islands and countries opposite northern Australia -- all jungle areas. So perhaps you could take a holiday sometime in these hotter Aussie jungle regions and find the plant and pick the seeds and grow them for free.
Chanca piedra grows about a meter in height. It's one single distinguishing and unique feature is that its small seeds can be found directly underneath and along the main stem petiole of the leaves of the plant. Here is an image of it to show you what I mean:

If you use Google images search, then you can find plenty of images of Chanca piedra. And if you can adequately recognize the plant from this one unique feature that I've described, then you may well be able to recognize and find it in the jungle regions of northern Australia.

I see that I was not clear in the amount of Chanca Piedra that I took. The directions said to take two capsules once a day. Each capsule is 900mg. In April 2019, I took two 900mg capsules, that equaled to 1800mg. In January 2020, I tried them again, this time I took one capsule that is 900mg with No problems. Is it safe to take chanca piedra if calcium is low?
I have been on haemodialysis for 15 years and I have secondary hyperthyroidism and my calcium is always low.
I'm on calcichew (calcium carbonate) and vitamin D but dont take it regularly . I would like to take chanca piedra but I'm scared because I read your post where you said it depletes calcium.

Hi John...Unfortunately, almost every herb that I grow is grown from local cuttings or twigs and there is no need to buy the seeds. The Chanca Piedra grows as a profuse weed in my garden which I am very thankful for. My partner does buy seeds from the local market in San Fernando to grow okra, sunflowers etc so she really has no need of an internet source. We also buy one or two herbs -- such as Aloe barbadensis and Holy Basil from the local garden centers. I try and avoid internet purchases if I can because the costs can be pretty high for shipment to the Philippines.

The following 2021 human study suggests that CP may not lower elevated liver enzymes or improve other liver function parameters at 1 gram per day :

' Serum levels of liver and renal function parameters failed to demonstrate significant improvement with P. niruri. However, there was a statistically significant increase in the level of total antioxidants with P. niruri (P = 0.034) with an additional appetite stimulant activity (P = 0.03) in 4 weeks. '
However this 2021 study in humans with trauma and elevated liver enzymes showed that Silymarin at a fairly low dose of 140 mg three times per day for a total of 420 mg of silymarin per day was effective at significantly lowering some elevated liver enzymes in just 14 days while also improving antioxidant status :

To be fair regarding CP, it is worth noting that they only used 1 gram per day whereas I use 3 grams or 3, 000 mg/day for kidney stones. Still, they got significant enzyme reduction as well as improved antioxidant status with just 140 mg of Silymarin three times per day for a total of just 420 mg of silymarin per day, in just 14 days!

I'm glad to hear that silymarin was beneficial for you and now higher dose chanca piedra (CP) seems like a reasonable consideration. Now you know that 1 gram per day will be insufficient for the task at hand. If its action is similar in time to its effects for kidney stones, you could potentially see improvement in the first month.
Other possible considerations are making sure your vitamin d level is well into the upper portion of the reference range which is 30 to 100 ng/ml or 75 to 250 nmol/l.
To put more pressure on reducing ALP and GGT you might consider fish oil / omega 3's at a minimum of 2 grams/day as used in the study and discussed here:

Joe, chanca piedra is common in Ghana. It is known in Akan as awoba ato woakyir (hope my spelling is right) in apparent reference to the seeds that hang under the leaves.

HI Cindy...You should be able to buy the chanca piedra herb at any health shop -- its fairly well known. I would either preferably use the the water extract in a tea or drink. Avoid the tablets, capsules and alcoholic tincture forms -- they don't seem to work so well. Try and buy organic for purity's sake. Hi Bill,
I just got my delivery of Chanca piedra, and it's in 1000gm capsules! Talk about horse tablets. Is it OK that I opened the capsule, added to a glass of apple juice and then gently heated it. (It stopped the herb bits clumping together). I drank it, bits and all, and it was delicious.
Just hope I didn't do it wrong and it works - I am getting twinges in my left-side bladder and also the place where my gallbladder used to be, but nothing bad.

I think that the alcoholic tincture form of Chanca works fine - at least for me. I had read that it is good for countless things, so I tried it for 5 days. I discharged gobs of mucusy-looking things, as well as other weird-looking "stuff", just for starters. I had read that it does indeed clean this stuff out.
Regarding kidney stones, yes, I would agree that consuming Chanca as a tea is the way to go. In general, different forms of a herb affect different parts of the body.

You can also buy the fresh chanca piedra from Quiapo Market in Manila (probably much cheaper) near Quiapo Church in Quezon City.
I'm afraid I haven't much of a clue about India. But here's what I would do. Visit an Ayurvedic or Unani healer -- they will almost certainly have chanca piedra -- and purchase chanca piedra from then. I would also think that the health shops in the Indian malls would definitely sell it too.
In both the hot lowlands of India and the Philippines, Chanca piedra grows wild as a profuse weed. So if you can recognize the plant, you can get it for free. Just make a decoction or a tea from the whole plant (including the roots) and drink this several times a day everyday. Chanca piedra has one unique feature that no other plant has -- it's flowers and seeds are situated along and under the leaf petiole. That's why CP is also called "Seed-Under-Leaf". Years back, before I knew of CP, I had a kidney stone which became lodged and then infected. Even though I believed in nutrition & natural healing then, was in absolute agony for a night, walking the floors. My cousin insisted on calling an ambulance and I was transported to a hospital where I stayed for a full week, and they were prepared to keep me longer.
So, in more recent years, my heart sank when I felt the familiar side/back pain. After a little research I hurriedly ordered capsules of the Chanca Piedra, which has turned out to be life changing for the better! Usually, it just takes two capsules once or twice a day and by the following day at the latest I'm pretty much pain-free.
Well, this past week, i'd been under a lot of stress (loss of a beloved dog, relative coming to visit, etc.) and also was drinking a much higher amount of ACV with honey, stevia and water because it's hot here. I suddenly became nauseated, dizzy, fatigued and in a great deal of pain which kept me from sleeping. I began drinking Vitamin C powder with a little baking soda a few times a day, plus colloidal silver in case of infection.
Due to feeling so poorly physically, it took a day or more for me to suddenly recognize what the pain in my side was! It would also shift to lower back at night. I instantly began taking two capsules of the CP twice a day, which helped, but the pain at times remained almost unbearable. This had never happened before, as it ALWAYS worked at that dose quickly for me.
I came onto this website and saw a comment in which someone related taking the CP capsules every four hours until relief. So I moved up to that amount and began getting wonderful RELIEF. Today for the first time since this started, I felt almost normal the entire day. I'm tapering off of the CP, vitamin C and colloidal silver knowing I'm better.
It's impossible to express how grateful I am for people willing to share their experiences and for this special plant. I believe for whatever the reason/s, one or more extra-large kidney stones became stuck, or perhaps a bunch of them, but the Chanca Piedra came through for me.
I want to add that my neighbor suffered for six months with kidney stones a few years ago, before I knew. He was constantly in pain and going in for checks and procedures. After the last appointment (which I think involved some kind of surgery) he came home and gradually resumed activities. Suddenly, he told me he had another bout of kidney stones beginning! This time I knew and gave him some CP capsules and told him how to take them. Within a day, the neighbor said the problem was resolved!! I think this happened at least one other time and he ended up getting his own bottle.
And today, I just heard of the restaurant manager (where a friend works) breaking down in tears and having to get to the hospital because of a kidney stone/s. I'm going to try to get word to her as well! Because this is such a gentle powerful amazing remedy for humans who have gone through a kidney stone ordeal.

Diane, I am not Bill, and I don't know why you wish to use Chanca Piedra, but I am concerned about your extreme constipation. This is just keeping toxins circulating in your body.
Please read up on remedies for constipation. And maybe consider carrot juice for constipation and anti-cancer. But don't take it until you have gotten your bowels moving properly.

Because of having very elevated LFTs for almost a year (cholestatic liver with PBC), I have done 2 Liver and gall bladder flushes, and parasite cleanses. The levels have gone down 200 points, but they still are at least 150 points too high. I'm thinking of starting chanca piedra and still continue to have Liver and gall bladder flush. I also take TUDCA and a bile salt. Thank you for your help as it's so hard to take care of yourself and see your body deteriorate. Is it a good idea to take the chanca piedra and flushes?

Hi Art, you suggested to take 3gram a day of Chanca Piedra. Tonight I took 2 -400 mg capsules on an empty stomach thinking I could aim for 2,400mg for the day 3x daily. Reading closer the description on Whole earth botanical Liver /Gall bladder support said 1 400 mg capsule equals 1 gram of chanca piedra. Should I proceed to take 1 capsule 3x daily for a month? I trust I'll be fine as I finished a very successful livergall bladder flush Tuesday morning. Hi Bill, I was diagnosed with hormone positive breast cancer 6 years ago. I am taking Anastrozole to stop hormone production. I have to take calcium the Dr. says the medication will deplete calcium. Look at the pictures Bill already posted. It is very easy to find CP in even the smallest street markets, just look to the herb seller, I saw them and used them for green juices even though I had no idea what they were previously. These grow wild all over Philippines, no need to stress if Healthy Options does not stock it. Amazon.com always has anything as a last resort, but herbs that grow wild is just oo easy to pick up off the side of the street.
