What do you mean having milk with garlic boiled controls assimilation of cholesterol? I have a 94 year old neighbor who is as erect, incredibly active, looks younger and when I asked her what regiments she thought were helping her she answered that since she was about 25 she began to drink milk boiled with fresh garlic. Can you please explain more specifically how this combo aids in health? I remember Ted had warned that having milk with other foods would block the vitamins and minerals from being processed into the body and that, in fact, milk should be taken alone to get all the benefits of its vitamins and minerals.
EC: Sorry, that was a quote from a book on garlic and onion cures, which was missing the source link. Has been added back to the post.
Also, garlic in boiled milk is an ayurvedic formula traditionally used for tuberculosis and asthma!

Marco, a well known soux chef in Santa Monica, California, gave us this simple soup recipe for nagging coughs. This is an old Mexican recipe from Marco's mother that aided him and his siblings' flu/cold recovery process.
Recipe:
- Cut a garlic cubed into quarters and add to two 2 quarts of H2O.
- Boil on low flame for at least one hour.
- Strain and sip slowly.
Believe or not, this warm garlic soup has a very pleasant taste!

What did you mean by garlic "cube"? Is it a clove of garlic or is it a whole head of garlic. Please post a reply. Thanks."
EC: A whole head of garlic!
09/12/2009: Tim from Portland, Or replies: "Actually its a bulb of garlic."
09/12/2010: Rh from Los Angeles, Ca replies: "Yes, a whole garlic head. I tried it and it works! Boil water with a whole garlic head. Take it at night you will immediately feel the difference the next morning."
02/01/2011: Tony from Antofagasta, Chile replies: "This is a bit confusing as Marcos uses the word cube that has been translated by Tim from Portland as a bulb and Rh from Los Angeles as a whole garlic head. Marcos says that the cube has to be cut into quarters, Does this mean that the whole garlic head has to be cut into four? I have never cut a garlic head into two or four as we usually divide it into cloves. Would Marcos be so kind in clarifying this to us, please?"
02/02/2011: Keri from California, Usa replies: "A bulb of garlic = a whole head of garlic. The individual pieces are the cloves."
02/25/2011: Soulflower from Verbena, Al replies: "2 quarts of water? That's more than a whole days' worth of water for me. In what time frame should it be drunk?
I've been following these instructions:
How to make garlic tea:
1) Peel and roughly chop 3-4 cloves of fresh garlic. Let it sit for about 10 minutes. The wait is to allow allicin to form. Allicin is the powerful anti-bacterial and anti-viral compund in garlic which only forms when garlic has been broken in some way (eg by chewing, chopping).
2) Add the chopped garlic to a mug and fill it with some hot water [I use boiling hot water, as I would with other teas. ]. Sip the garlic tea once it becomes cool enough.
If you have a mild case of the flu or a cold, garlic tea should start working for you fairly quickly. However, if you're down with a particularly bad bout of the flu, you might have to take garlic tea over a period of a few days."
04/22/2011: Grannykeeper from Vancouver, Wa, Usa replies: "An easy way to prepare garlic is to smash the clove with the blade of a vegetable knife a couple of times. Then it is easy to peel. Whack it again and smash it good, then it is very easy to mince, and there is no waiting. If you can capture the juice, that is good, too.

It is better to grate the garlic. If you have a zesting tool, grate the garlic and allow it to sit for 15 minutes so the beneficial allicin can fully form. Then proceed. The finer the chop or grate on garlic, the more beneficial compounds will be released. This is how I make my garlic tea and it works very well.

I used to be a big fan.....but not so sure anymore....because it deadens brain cells....some airlines do not allow their pilots to consume garlic 72 hrs.pre flight......decreases reaction time in an emergency by 30%. However it is nature's best incecticide......just spray on crops. Do you have an opinion on this issue.??

Morris Paul: Here's the skinny on garlic. A buffalo steps on a garlic plant and crushes the cellulose. Two chemicals that were seperated come together and make allicin. This prevents the wound from becoming infected. The buffalo does not eat the garlic because allicin also damages blood cells. Garlic contains 3 beneficial substances that when prepared properly are good. Crush a clove of garlic and and let set for 15 minutes. This lets the allicin fully form. Heat at low temp for 3 minutes changes the allicin into poly sulfides that expand the capillaries and produce h2s. Hydrogen sulfide destroys pathogens but does not harm the cells. Garlic oil has set for more than 72 hours so all the allicin has changed into poly sulfides. Aged garlic is high in a water soluable poly sulfide that is extremely beneficial. All of the above properly prepared garlics have 39 antibiotics that are not harmfull to the cells.

★★★☆☆BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS
Hi, I read all the post about raw garlic and tooth infection and yes even how it really burns, but I did not think of it burning as what I have received. I thought maybe like some really hot --- hot sauce, or hot drink. I would like to let everyone know just how bad raw garlic can REALLY BURN. I was only able to hold it for about 15 minutes and unable to do again. The rest of the day I used Oregano Oil, (50/50 with castor oil) I also swallowed some (fresh not swished) Oregano Oil, I am not sure which remedy helped. This was on a Friday and my mouth was pretty sore from both the tooth (which pain was going down my neck also) and now the raw garlic burn. Saturday I woke to a REALLY, REALLY BAD cheek. It was so sore I could not even hardly chew, even though I was chewing on the other side, the action of movement was still hurting my burned cheek, even drinking from a straw hurt bad. Others have said it feels like they may have drank or eaten something to hot.... Type burn but this is not the case here. I have been holding salt water at the burn spot off and on all during the day, swishing hurts to much. It is really swollen and red. I am guessing the cheek tissue is more sensitive then the gum line because the cheek tissue is what got so badly burned while the gum tissue is just fine. Today is Sunday and my cheek is still sooooooooo sore and angry, the trauma has come more to the surface. Today I am going to add some Oregano Oil to my salt water in hopes this will speed up the healing. I was told by some one (after the fact.... Of course) that they also had gotten a really bad burn from raw garlic and was told to do this instead.... If they choose to use garlic for healing again. It works just as well as raw garlic with less danger of burn. Take a 6 - 8 oz glass of warm water and add to this 2 - 4 cloves of crushed garlic (a garlic mincer works best), let this sit on the counter over night to infuse, (or all day, which ever will be longest). In the morning take a 16 oz glass and add warm water and some infused garlic water (very little as this infused water is very strong) (you can always add more but can not take away) also add (optional) salt. This infused 16 oz. Glass of water will last you all day, swish around the infected area as often you feel the need. If your water gets cold DO NOT boil or microwave it as this will kill the "live" action which is needed for healing, you want to warm it with a water bath. For those who do not cook much here is how to do a water bath. Find another small bowl, cup, etc. That your 16 oz glass can fit inside with room all the way around the glass and up to the top or close to the top. Heat some water to HOT not boiling and pour into this other container, set your 16 oz glass inside this water (with your garlic/salt water in your 16 oz glass) and let it warm up. That is all there is to it. Swish or hold this infusion (only if comfortable) for about 1 minute, your going to be doing this all through the day so no need to hold longer. DO NOT SWALLOW this infusion as you have been swishing an infected area and do not want to swallow any infection. Be sure to drink plenty of clean water, at least 64 oz. If you have just swished wait at least 30 minutes before drinking or eating anything. Hope this helps so others will not get the side effect that I did. This is a great site and I visit often. Good health to all.

When using garlic you want to mince it to get the oils out of it, this oil is called sulfenic acid and is the reason for the serious burning, it will break down in about 15 minutes into allicin, which is more potent, and fyi using ceyenne pepper helps increase the potency of antibiotics, pinicillon, painkilles and any natural remedies as well, hope this helps someone, ( by-the-way, garlic didn't work for my tooth absess, but oregeno oil with olive oil worked for oil pulling and on top of the skin, olive oil actually absorbs into bone). thanks earthclinic I share this site with as many people as possible

My wife is a teacher at a preschool and frequently brings strep throat home. I can't afford to miss work for the doctor so I resort to generous helpings of garlic.
So far I have tried eating raw cloves on one occasion and a mixture of garlic, honey, apple cider vinegar, and cayenne pepper on the other. Today I'm going to try garlic tea. The raw cloves are very intense and not recommended for the average bear.
My wife detests the smell and taste of garlic so I find the best way to get her to try it is to mix it into some rice or steamed veggies.

High potency garlic pills are not as good for you as fresh garlic cloves. I took a garlic pill for awhile and had the most horrible heartburn I could possibly have. Today I cut up fresh garlic the size of pills and eat a teaspoon twice a day with 2 tbsp of apple cidar vinegar in 8 oz of water. I have been able to stop using Nexium. Use fresh garlic if you can. Acid reducers such as Prilosec, Nexium etc. Are very dangerous to continue for any length of time. If you have a germ in your stomach you need the acid to get rid of the germ.
Also, ignore the post that says you must cut or chop and eat the garlic in 30 seconds. Many such post come from people who work for big pharmaceutical companies. They have invaded many good sites. There is one called "quackbusters" and they say bad things about just about all natural healing foods and supplements. The man works for a pharmaceutical company.
You have 10 minutes to cut and eat to get the benefit.

I was a vegan for 4 years, and now have started eating meat. I noticed that I'm aging quicker and I'm getting sick more often. I plan to detox asap. I tried oil pulling a few minutues ago, and it really helped me! When I was really healthy and vegan, I would do oil pulling, but I didn't notice any results, maybe because my toxicity levels were low.

A suggestion for those afraid to use garlic cloves for a suppository. Instead of threading the clove, thus puncturing it, use a teabag. Snip off the top of the teabag, empty out the tea and drop in the peeled clove. Thread or tie around the top of the teabag with dental floss. Don't forget to lubricate.

I take half a teaspoon first thing in the morning and last thing in the evening before sleep. I'll probably taking it for along time as its become a habit now. One of the secrets of living longer is that folks takes raw garlic daily. This is the next best thing and I can tolerate the taste - It tastes better than licorice candy (a bit sweet from the honey).

After reading about the garlic remedy, I cut a clove and put it between my gum and cheek. Hi Chong, leaving garlic to sit after chopping maximizes the beneficial compounds in it. Garlic does not contain allicin per se; it is formed in garlic after chopping or crushing. Letting it sit 10 minutes before cooking with it or consuming it raw is a good timeframe to maximize the formation of allicin. I don't think the chewing you'd do to ingest it is going to take away the benefits. If you're concerned, then just swallow small pieces whole like you would a vitamin capsule (that is what I do).

Debby, I have suffered from the same thing. It is probably MRSA. Once your system has it, you might always have flare ups and is always in your system. But here is what I have done to prevent them or keep them away and Attack the boils head on By myself.
First, on the day you notice a boil forming (They are Solid as a Rock) then go and get some Acai Berry juice from the health food store ASAP and drink a cup in morning and cup at night. Your boil will be minimized the next day. Keep doing this until its gone in 2 to 3 days.
But if you catch The when it has gotten way too big already, then go ahead with the Acai Berry juice, however, You will also need to get some Milk of Magnesia and Hydrogen Peroxide from the Drugstore. Mix The Milk of Magnesia and H202 With a half and half solution in A small cap. Apply this solution to the boil every hour for like the next 4, 5 or 6 hours depending on how desperate you are. Do this everyday until it goes down, in about a day or two.
To make a stronger solution, you can go get some Betadyne or Povodone Iodine from a local drugstore and add a couple drops to the capful Solution. The iodine will further kill the infection under the boil, or the STAPH.
Also, another thing that helps, as a Daily routine and preventative measure, Is putting Neosporin in your nose with a Q tip everyday or every other day, to ensure that any Staph that is wandering in your body will die... I read that a Magnesium Deficiency could be a big part of this Staph Problem, so load up on Magnesium Citrate 600 mg daily or more to be safe. I got this information here on Earthclinic and from Ted. Go to MRSA Cures. Good Luck!

I was coming down with strep throat, ealy stages, extreme sore throat, plem build up in lungs...so I made a Ms. Grass chicken noodle soup, brought it to a boil, sliced up 9 cloves of fresh garlic, put them in the boiling soup, I then let it simmer for 2-3 minutes, and put in a massive amount of black pepper. I then let it cool a little and ate it. It burned quite a bit but it opened everything up, I mean everything. I then went to bed and could actually FEEEL the garlic in my blood working, seriously, it was like my blood was burning, in a good way...killing the virus. I woke up and the fever was gone and I hacked up some extremely large chucks of phlem from my lungs, all of it...the infection was killed, it all came right out witha few coughs...I was really shocked, and cured 100% no joke. For those of you who have had strep throat then you know how horrible it is...so if garlic did this in one night for me I hope others read this and perhaps it will help with you in a similar situation...if you can handle smelling like garlic for a week....the side affects are worth it.

Hi I just read your post about putting garlic on the fatty deposits, how many times a day did you do this? I have did it once today and felt the burn, and hoping it works, I got told lecithin worked but I used this for 3 months and nothing happened. My doctor wont remove mine, she said it was cosmetic only but did refer me to get camouflage cream, this made it look worse and came off when I sweated or if it rained, so no use. I did get used to the Xanthelasma as it's only two small patches under my eyes next to my nose, but recently my right side has gone a slight bt bigger, puffy, red and itchy. Ok, so I noticed these things coming at me fast and furiously about 7 months ago. Cholesterol was just a tad bit high but barely. I do have thyroid issues and have noticed alot of people with Xanthelasmas have also had thyroid problems. Anyway, I wanted to post my experience. I started research immediately on how to get rid of these. I have tried SO many things, including garlic. Garlic did take down a little bit of the puffiness for me but not too much but it would swell right back up within days once I stopped. I've tried so many concoctions based on internet research and I think after several months I might have figured it out for me. Kind of makes me ill because it's so much simpler and less painful than anything else I've tried but here it is.
A mixture of Castor Oil and Lecithin. I had already tried each alone and it didn't work. But once I put them together (for the last week) the puffiness of my xanthelasma is almost completely flat. The yellow spots are turning more white now and seem to be getting a bit smaller also. I'm thinking it may take a while to be gone completely but it is the only thing that has worked this well so far and it doesn't burn or anything. I already had some triple strength lecithin capsules (liquid) So I emptied two of them into a contact lense container and put about a half teaspoon of castor oil.. Mixed well and I put it on several times a day. I have to mix another batch today but will be happy to do so after the results I've seen so far. In addition, I also started taking MSM tablets 3 times a day and COQ10 once a day.. For antioxidant effects. I started this about 2 weeks ago. I'm thinking that maybe be helping also. If anyone else decides to try this I would like to know what the outcome is. Good luck to everyone.. I've hated dealing with this.
