You should take both. It's dangerous to stop taking a medicine prescribed for ulcers in the esophagus. I really wouldn't want to risk getting cancer in the esophagus.

EC: I've been drinking ACV (no honey added) in water almost daily for the past 10 years and have absolutely no issues with dental enamel! To me it's a non-issue. I've never followed the suggestions made by people like immediately brushing my teeth, rinsing with water, or swishing with baking soda. False information on the net trying to scare people away from taking ACV?

In total frustration, I went to the internet to search for a NATURAL cure. I found a remedy which worked immediately. I eat a red delicious apple everyday and two if needed.
I found Earthclinic and started using Apple Cider Vinegar. When I have a episode, I put a tablespoon in a 1/4 cup of water and down it..... REFLUX is GONE.
The ACV did what the doctor and DRUGS could no do. TRY IT.

So he agreed that the discomfort, PAIN, and nightly suffocation attacks indicate a acid reflux problem and he gave me a prescription for Apo-Omeprazole.
Even though it cost me $ 155 I didn't feel too comfortable to take it with all the things and side effects - so to make a long story short - having heard about Apple Cider Vinegar I looked for it on the internet and came to this website, yesterday. I took the vinegar water mix (1.5 tablespoon of vinegar/1 glass water) right away and since then 3 times per day. After two glasses of mix last night I had the best night sleep in a long time.
Anybody else out there with a lap band and acid reflux problems?

Like Angie from Lake Charles, I had lap-band surgery. I my case, it was about 4 years ago and I've lost 165 pounds (from 300 to 135). Just this past month, I started having reflux very very bad at night. I've occasionally had reflux with the band, but it was always b/c it was too tight. This time, though, it's happening every night, and Tums and Maalox aren't working. I'm worried that I might have a slip or a hernia. Needless to say, I'll be trying the ACV and honey tonight! I'm also going on a liquid diet (protein shakes) for the next few days to try to deal with any inflammation I'm having from excessive PB's this week. Fingers crossed that that the ACV helps.

I have been using 1 teaspoon to 8 oz of water. I use about a 1/4 cup of vinegar in a large 20 oz cup water shampoo and the rinse with the vinegar.

I have tried the acv and did in fact get some relief. Don't be to concerned about the taste, it is such a small amount that will give you (or at least gave me) months of relief. I drink 1Tbs when needed and that's approx every 4-5 months. After the first one, you don't even think about the taste anymore (it's better cold though). In fact, my 12 year old neice suffers from reflux and I got her to drink. There is no burning, more like a cooling effect. Good luck!!

I have been suffering from acid reflux for years, especially after my doctor advised me to kill my thyroid (I had Graves disease and surgery didn't ensure they'd get all of it.) with radiation treatment (I took a pill and that was that). Afterward, my acid reflux got worse. I've done Prisolec which worked pretty good, but after awhile, got to be more than I could afford (I'm unemployed), so I began using an over-the-counter acid reducer. The other night, I could not sleep. I finally got up around 5am and took a sleep inducer, and woke up 3 hours later with bile in my throat. Ugh & Yuck. I'd read somewhere that Apple Cider Vinegar was good for acid reflux, but didn't know how to administer it. When I was finished in the bathroom, I went into the kitchen & retrieved my apple cider vinegar, which I'm sure has been filtered. I took 1 tbsp. of it straight from the bottle. It went down a bit raspy (You have to remember that I just burned my esphogous [sp?] from the bile), but today I am feeling much better. I slept all through the night last night without any problems. I will try it again this evening before bed...And now I read that I should be putting it in water. I think I'll just "drink it down" in a teaspoon!

I have severe GERD and haven't yet tried the acv treatment, but was previously prescribed Nexium which gave me a severe migraine. I have since been taking Prevacid which works much better.

I was on a medicine called Aciphex and loved it. I had no issues with side effects. I'm now on Nexium because my insurance decided not to pay for the Aciphex anymore. I'm not as pleased with Nexium and try to avoid taking it unless my symptoms become severe. Otherwise I use over the counter stuff, and that doesn't seem to always work either. I'm going to try the ACV to see if it helps.

You take apple cider vinegar before coffee. Did you know coffee causes reflux? What is your diet? Always look for low fat foods, little or no sugar. Reduce alcohol.
