My Home Made Cough Syrup for Sore Throats. I call it "Molyvite". It combines:
- Black Strap Molasses
- Grade C Maple Syrup (only enough to break the taste)
- Apple Cider Vinegar
- Raw Unfiltered Honey
- Cayenne Pepper
- A small amount of pure water to tolerable taste.
Take small sips during the day. For problems getting accustomed to taste, start sipping with a small tolerable amount at first working your way up. Soon you will even look forward to taking it. You may even miss taking it. I did.
Benefits:
- Minerals
- Help Balance PH
- Send germs packing
- Increase blood flow & circulation
- Healing
- Some vitamins
Did you ever hear of Cyclone Cider? Love that stuff too.

Clew, you can try this: half a glass of boiling water (use a mug with a handle) with a spritz of h2o2, then breathe the vapors for a while. We do this various times a day, tapering down as the cough gets less.

Stumbled across this post while doing research. I'm sure you're healthy by now (I hope!! ) but just wanted to mention for future, check out glycemic difference between raw honey and processed ("regular") honey. It's pretty astonishing. Don't know if that's helpful for you, but just in case, wanted to pass it along.
PS. I believe the honey in this recipe is mostly for taste, though in its raw form it does have healing properties.

I had bronchitis, laryngitis, and chronic coughing that starts around the evening. I mean nonstop coughing, couldn't sleep, sit, or make it stop, it was very difficult. Doubled my prescription cough medication for help, no effect, the cough persisted.
Fresh out of ACV, had no choice but to try using regular vinegar bought from organic store. Mixed 1cup boiling water, ~1 generous tsp organic honey, ~3tsp vinegar, and drank it like a hot tea. The relief was instantaneous. It made the cough go away. Look forward to drinking more to help my recovery.
P.S. Then I read about the difference between ACV and regular vinegar @

I got bronchitis almost 3 weeks ago, just finished a round of antibiotics and the cough went away. On the last day of my antibiotics, the cough came back from a virus my son had, I assume, and it hasn't stopped in 3 days (and nights! There hasn't been much sleep in my house). I have tried every cough syrup and cough drop imaginable, combined with a humidifier and herbal tea but the relief is short term.
I just read through this thread and immediately rushed to the grocery to buy this concoction (2 tbsp. of apple cider vinegar, 1 tbsp. of honey, 1 tbsp. of lemon juice and 1/2 c ginger juice ( 1 tbsp. Ground ginger 1/2 c boiling water). My cough is subsiding a lot - from coughing nonstop to only once in a while now. I am just so grateful to have some relief from this and I plan to try it again and with my son tonight. Pretty miraculous.

I had a bad cough for 5 days and I was desperate for relief. I mixed 1 tsp apple cider vinegar and 1 tsp clover honey with 1/4-cup warm water. It soothed my cough and a little while later I coughed up a lot of phlegm and it was cured!

I have given it to my baby since he was 12 months. However, if you do not feel confortable giving him honey, you can add instead natural apple juice: one glass of apple juice, half tbs of ACV, half tbs of lemon juice and add a bit of warm water. It works for my baby.

I did not see any postings on ACV's ability to cure cough. It works as a cough syrup. I had terrible cough and flu this winter. So I searched online and found out that
equal amounts of ACV and honey in a cup of water work miracles. I tried it and felt instant relief. It has anti-viral properties and helps fight the flu.
Here in Bulgaria, it is also traditionally used to lower fever. The way it's done is to wet a cloth with the vinegar and cover the forehead and temples. The vinegar and the cooling effect of the wet cloth work together.

I caught a bad cold recently, while the medicine from the chemist stops the cold, I cant stop the cough that came after it. The cough was very bad. Feels like theres something ticklish on my throat n makes me wanna cough it out but cant. At night, im not able to sleep, just cough n cough till i got cramps in the stomach. I looked up for the cure in this site. (i save this site on my desktop). I took 3capfuls of apple cider vinegar with my normal morning tea with either sugar or honey with warm water. In a couple of hours, my coughs lessen and the sore i felt in my throat from coughing felt better. My runny nose also stops n i fell soo much better.. Thank u earthclinic, u make my day!

I tried the ACV w/ honey after days of non stop coughing. It was driving me insane b/c not only is it annoying but it really hurt my throat and it gave me terrible headaches. So finally last night I had enough and decided to look up natural, home remedies preferably that included vinegar b/c I know how great it is. I found this web site and read about the wonderful results other people have had, so I decided to try it. It was awesome!! I'm still coughing a little bit but not nearly as much as the past week...which has been a nightmare. I took some last night and also this morning...although I have to admit...the vinegar really burned!! I mixed 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar and 1 tablespoon honey. next time i am planning on diluting w/ a couple of tablespoons of water b/c it really hurt my stomach but I am so great full that I found this remedy...I will keep using it from now on instead of buying expensive medicines that only put me to sleep.

I had a sore throat for about 4 days and the tickly cough was driving me crazy. In desperation I trawled the internet and found your site and the ACV remedy. Luckily I had a bottle of ACV in the cupboard and so I tried it with honey dissolved in a small amount of water. It was horrible to swallow but the results were almost instant. The annoying cough has now mostly gone and I had a good nights sleep. My throat still feels a little 'lumpy' but its bearable now. Thanks to all who posted the remedy.

I am so thankful to have found this informative page. After coming down with a very nasty cough and cold for the past week, I didn't think I could take another night of constant coughing. My husband went online and found this information and told me to try the ACV and honey mixture. I had been loading up on all kinds of over the counter cough medicines and nothing even phased my cough. We mixed these two ingredients together, about 2 tbsp ACV to 1 tbsp honey and I took it in one big gulp. I didn't expect much, but boy was I wrong. I could instantly tell it had an effect on the severe tickle in my throat. Within about 1/2 hour, it was greatly reduced. About an hour later, I took a little more and went to bed. I did cough some, but nothing like before. Since then, I have taken it a few more times and the relieve is almost instantaneous. I can also tell my sore throat has diminished a great deal as well. I am sold on this stuff. I have since read to dilute with water, so I will do that next. Simply put, I'm amazed!

First of all, I thank GOD for helping me find your site to try these wonderful remedies! I started out with a sore throat and gargled water mixed with cayenne powder; it helped short term. But then I had a nasty cough (associated with the sore throat), so I drank 2 Tablespoons of apple cider vinegar throughout the day. It seemed to make my coughs more productive. When I woke up the next day, I hacked up a lot of mucous, and felt like I was getting better. Then I made a pot of tomato tea and I am well again :-) Thank you very much! Your site is a priceless wealth of information."

Hi Latz,
So, did you use the recipe that says 1-2 Tablespoons each of apple cider vinegar and honey plus a pinch of cinnamon and 6 ounces of hot water?

This am I went out and bought some cayenne pepper, ground ginger, and buckwheat honey. I mixed it up with ACV to make a cough syrup. It's helping the cough a little bit but my nose stopped running this afternoon. I just took a teaspoon of the honey and then I'll do the syrup before bed.

Hello. I have a terrible cough and the flu. The fever broke finally but I am coughing like crazy. I am insulin resisant and should not use honey. Has anyone had success without the use of honey? Is this just used for taste or is there a medicinal purpose for the honey [in the apple cider vinegar cough remedy]?

You don't need honey, no. If you want something for the taste, try adding some xylitol or stevia.

Just tried Apple Cider Vinegar, a pinch of cayenne, honey, lemon and hot water. I cannot believe it. It didn't work immediately but now, 10 minutes later, my cough is much calmer and my throat doesn't hurt as much. I am going to make a base of this, and add hot water and sip throughout the day. I'll also take zinc and garlic and I'll report back!

Ginger juice, is not ground ginger. You use raw ginger root, mince up a tablespoon, boil in one half cup of water (5 min. should do) and strain.

I have had a cough for a few days that seemed to get worse by the day. I have always referred to this website for many cures, but never thought to try out any remedies for coughs until today. I poured 2tbsp of acv, 1tbsp of honey, and 1 teaspoon of lemon in a cup, and stirred it for about 30seconds. I drank it down.... And have not coughed since! Hallelujah!

I had a sore throat that went away but the cough stayed for several weeks. I used 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and 1 tablespoon of honey 2 times during day and 2 tblspns of each at bedtime. Only coughed once during the night. I took 1 tblspn of each the next morning (three days ago) and have been fine since then. It worked for me.

The general warning is that you should not feed honey to infants under twelve months of age. It should be fine for a two year old, and older child. I have also heard of using a daily teaspoon of raw honey as a treatment for allergies. It has something to do with the pollen and other substances in the raw honey helping the patient to build up some immunity to whatever they are allergic to.

Just remember if you are going to use the honey for treatment of allergies, you have to use stuff that is locally produced in your area or you won't get the full benefits of it. You want your body to build tolerances to your allergic triggers.

OK - I'm a believer!! My husband came down with a nasty cough this week. Not really any other cold symtoms, but a deep "wet" cough. He has not slept for 3 nights (nor I). I went online at 3 AM out of desperation and found this site. The Apple cider Vineager and sugar worked like a charm. With in 15 minutes he was asleep and it worked for about 3 hours. I gave him more and it worked again. My husband is a total skyptic. Not an ounce of him thought it would work, so there is no question of pyschologically being better because you think it will make you better. - Now tell me why this 50 cents of home remedy works better then the $14.00 of the strongest cough syrup I could find over the counter??

I've had a nasty painful cough for days now and I just tried this... It works enough for me to be able to talk without coughing every 5 seconds. I've slept better from this too. I doubled it and it worked even better.
