Non-Alcoholic Beer

The intestinal problems I'm referring to are caused by too much acid reaching the intestines. I've found that some packaged juices such as grape juice, tomato juice and apple juice, contain a lot of acid and can eventually cause intestinal pain when overdone. I attribute that to the acid eating away at the lining of the GI tract and causing irritation and ulcers. The obvious thing that's called for in those cases is to cut out these beverages. However, even though I used to suffer from such GI tract irritation to where I had to cut out my favorite beverages, I found a way to get around that problem and drink all the fruit juices I wanted without any problems at all and have been doing so for many years now. What I found is that if non-alcoholic "beer" or brew (I prefer Miller or Coors) is drunk at the same time as these juices (I mix them together for a good fizzy drink) I can, and do, drink as much juice as I want without any of the normal problems I used to get. Plus I find it to be a healthy and tasty alternative to soda drinks. I don't know what it is about beer that neutralizes the effects of acid in the GI tract, but it works every time.

Olives

Great page. Thank you all. Along with ACV recipe #2, I would like to add that I have found Olives to be excellent against reflux and easier than pickle juice to swallow. They are PH neutral and some brands contain Sodium Alginate in the brine. Can anyone out there elaborate more on Sodium Alginate? From what I've read it sounds like studies are finding conclusive advantages. Along with apples and olives, other diet changes include a switch to snacking on almonds, raisins and Green tea with maple syrup.

Cabbage

I suffer from severe acid reflux, and I was starting to cough much at night and at times during the day. I read on your very useful web site, about some one suffering from severe coughing [her name jill A. posted on 5/2/2006]. Well what I think got me almost rid of the coughing was this remedy i got from a book: fresh purple cabbage juice [10-13fl. oz [300-400ml] --sip it daily on an empty stomach [you can toss it in the blender with 10-13 oz. of water to get the juice out]. The book said to add also a hand full of fresh basil, marjoram, and/or oregano, which I did. I also used the jelly of aloe vera leaves, before every meal and before going to bed [chew on a small portion or blended as a shake and drink it].

Now the other thing I was going to talk about was the metallic chemical taste in the mouth that Robin from Apalachicola--or something like that--Fl. [posted on 2/11/2006], felt once she took a PPI drug [nexium--i believe]. I also have felt that taste before after having tried one of those ppi's poisonous drugs. I think it may be caused by an allergic reaction. I did not get the black tongue she mentioned though. But those drugs i believe to be dangerous since my severe reflux was caused by nexium itself, believe or not, but that story I cannot get into yet.

Pine Nuts

Hello Everyone, I just had to post this ASAP!! If you have tummy troubles this is a must read for you. My husband has acid reflux, and suffers terribly, and our daughter has been through many "treatments" for H Pylori. (H pylori causes stomach ulcers) The other day I bought some pine nuts to go in our salad, and low and behold, my husband about 15 minutes after eating dinner, says " my stomach doesn't hurt." Sure enough even Audrey said "my tummy feels better". I began researching pine nuts, and found that they have been popular for many ailments, including H pylori, and acid reflux. It has been a few days now, and Kevin eats about a 1/4 a cup a day, and Audrey eats more, about 1/2 a cup a day. Her stomach hasn't bothered her in days, and Kevin is doing great. We have supported the anti acid industry for years now, and I am so glad to stop! The pine nuts can be found everywhere, even Wal-Mart. This is just a miracle. I hope this helps everyone as much as it has us. Amy, Sevierville, TN

Lemons

I have long suffered from stomach problems and acid reflux. I stumbled on a cure by accident. It is called the Lemonade Fast and is apparently pretty ancient. I just wanted it for an easy fast and cleanse. Into 10 ounces water, mix in 2 Tablespoons good grade B maple syrup (for minerals) and 1/8th of a teaspoon cayenne pepper. Sounds awful but actually it gets to be quite delicious. You want to drink 6 to 10 of these a day and any other water or mild herb tea like peppermint. I did the full 10 days, way too long, but what I noticed was that not only was my ulcer cured but gum disease seemed to be cured too. They must be related. Eileen

I had acid reflux for years. I started taking cayenne caps three a day and the acid reflux stopped. This is anecdotal evidence of course, but it worked for me.

Cayenne

On the subject of acid reflux and heartburn, I have all but eliminated it after 20 or so years of suffering. I used to keep a large bottle of Tums with me at all times. The acid reflux was horrible, waking me up in bed with searing pain in my throat and gasping for air, not knowing if this would be the end. The choking went on for half an hour or more. Milk, more Tums, water, juice, nothing gave instant relief. Like magic, after about three months, I had lost almost all of the symtoms of the acid reflux and heartburn. You can cure yourself easily if you are determined. It will take perseverence and patience and will gradually go from bad to good in three months or so. Cayenne Pepper is the answer! Now on a regular basis I take from one to two heaping tablespoons of granulated cayenne with my meals. Not on any cereal though! Usually if you can start off with a litle and work up to a large dose like I did, it will become easy and things after a while will not seem to taste right without it. I am so happy I don't use Tums anymore and I don't have stomach problems. I would encourage anyone to read about "cayenne pepper healing effects." Do a Google search and you will be surprised at what you read about its healing effects. I get my cayenne from a wholesale club in bulk containers. I use Tone's ground cayenne pepper and it is about $4.00 for a 1 LB container. That should last you about six months or more. Good luck and remember, you will have to get used to the heat or it won't work. In addition to taking the cayenne pepper, don't go to sleep on a full stomach. Give it 3 or 4 hours before you go to sleep. Bruce N. Strnad

Papaya

There was time when acid reflux took over my life and literally I end up sitting in the back of an ambulance rushed to a nearest hospital for breathing problems due to acid reflux. One time a friend of mine suggested aloe vera and papaya and thanks to that I in a matter of days all my symptoms entirely disappeared. If you are suffering from acid reflux on a very severe case like I did, you might want to consider this other option. So here is the magic recipe:

1 leaf aloe Vera
1 papaya (ripe)
2 cups Orange Juice
and ice.

So the whole thing is basically prepared as a really healthy smoothie. cut two inches of the aloe vera lea and scoop the gel from inside into the blender (DO NOT USE THE GREEN LEAF ONLY THE GEL) Then cut a slide or two of the beautiful ripe papaya into the blender add orange juice and enough ice so the whole mixture will take the smoothie consistency. Drink two or three times a week and the results can be seen almost immediately. If aloe Vera cures severe second degree burns imagine how great will do inside your stomach. I was reading about the properties of these two amazing "titana" yes that's how I call aloe Vera and Papaya. Papaya has a an enzyme that also helps digestion but combined with aloe vera is like having Superman and Batman at your call. Good luck

Sea Salt

The water cure has helped countless people quickly get rid of acid reflux and without cost. All that is required is to quit caffeine & alcohol while drinking half your body weight in ounces of water along with 1/4 tsp. of salt, preferably unprocessed sea salt per day and the acid problem should be gone in a few days. 2 glasses of water with a pinch of salt in most cases will quickly stop acid reflux discomfort. Anyone not quickly cured, just email me. All we ask is that you in turn pass it on to others. Bob

Acidophilus

I have been suffering from acid reflux for many years; I came across your website and tried the pure cherry juice as well as the acidophilus pills. I ran out of the cherry juice and can't comment on how well it worked but I can tell you that the acidophilus has been working; I was taking it at night after my meal and was sleeping without a problem. I'd recently taken a few generic pain relievers and coincidentally or not my acid reflux returned; I'm going to carefully monitor when I take it and how I feel from now on.

Acidophilus

66 percent of cases, a treatment consisting primarily of acidophilus and digestive enzymes will usually do the trick. In Dr. Spreen's words: "Acidophilus supplements (powder form, the liquid tastes awful) protect the oesophagus without killing acid (while killing the pain almost immediately). The hassle is, you have to keep it handy and take it often if you don't solve the whole problem, which involves tightening the gastro oesophageal sphincter. Dr. Spreen describes his treatment as "ridiculously simple and cheap." And while he feels confident that he can stop more than 2/3 of all heartburn and reflux cases.

Acid Reflux is caused by the over consumption of processed and cooked foods. The quickest way to solve the problem is to STOP eating processed cereals, especially ones with processed flakes or nuggets). Things like Raisin Brank, Captain Crunch, any cereal where the main ingredient is a processed substance. This does NOT apply to things like raw oats, raw nuts, etc.

In reading Type A Diet I found Type A's need extra biles and acids to break down the food in their stomach so when I get acid reflux I take lemon juice and it is cured in minutes.

To All: All acid reducers, PPH's, steroids, allergy meds, antibiotics and anti-inflammatory agents compromise digestion. Protein is the hardest to digest, so it's logical to assume reactions to high protein foods, like eggs, etc would occur while on certain meds. Stop all meds - eat 6 small, healthy meals - no alcohol, coffee or citrus, exercise and find a homeopathic procedure that might soothe you, like ACV, Aloe, whatever, but just try one at a time for 3 or 4 weeks. Reduce stress, get tons of fresh air, laugh more, think good thoughts. Be patient, you will heal and get better. Oh, yeah, stay away from doctors.
