I had given up on trying to treat my BV. I tried several of the remedies on this board, including acidophilus, but nothing worked more than a day or so. I started taking some supplements for a variety of other ailments, then I realized the BV disappeared. It has been gone for weeks! Here is what I have been taking: Fish Oil caps 2x/day, Super B complex 1x/day, and Vit. D3 1x/day. I don't know which one of those things worked, but something definitely did!

Hi Cici, Good for you for continuing in a holistic manner! I am certain you can bring your body back to a balanced state through diet. You can make your own kefir (I make young coconut water kefir) which helps to re-populate your body with the good bacteria that keeps our body healthy. Wishing you the best on your journey, Lisa

Thanks Jennifer and Lisa for your replies. Yes i've really been struggling with this since October 2009. I know i've done something right because of losing two symptoms itching and burning. I guess I need to find the right combo of things for my body. I realize all of our bodies are different and react differently to certain things. I also realize when doing things naturally it's not always a quick fix. I've been patient this long so i might as well keep going. I will check out the bodyecology.com site you posted. Have you all heard of any homeopathic remedies that help. I've been doing more research and read up on Sepia, Pulsatilla, Sulfur, and Kali. I am thinking of adding these to try. Thanks again. We must continue to support each other in this fight.

Cici....that's a bummer on the no carb thing. I've been smell and discharge free for over a week now and the only thing I've changed is what I eat....only meat, cheese, and green veggies. I was hoping that this would work for others like it has for me. I'll let you all know if I'm still BV free in a month or so.
I love all the posts and everyone helping eachother.
Thanks!

Hi Cici, Actually, you were on the right track! And the progress is that you are no longer burning and itching but there is still more progress to be had to rid yourself of the BV and going to the dr. will not help unless it is a naturopath who will help through diet. The dr. will most likely give you antibiotics or some other allopathic medication which may cover up the syptoms(MAYBE)but in the end will only exacerbate the problem. The "nasty, icky discharge" is most likely some of the die-off of the candida and yes, this is not a fun place to be but the candida must die in order to restore harmony in your vagina and most likely throughout your whole body. As women, our bodies have an especially delicate balance because of our female organs so candida becomes quite apparent in us as opposed to men. This is both a blessing and a curse because it brings the problem to our awareness pretty quickly and gets our attention whereas, a man with candida can go very far until it is extreme and harming many of his organs.
Do not go back to sugar and carbs- you were on the right track! If you go to bodyecology.com you will find a protocol and answers to BV there. Just do a search when you're there and Donna Gates will give a very good explanation in an article she has written. Don't give up!

WOW!!! I'm so glad I came across this site! I'm a married (faithfully) 30yr old that has been suffering from BV for at least a year. At first I didn't know what was wrong w/me. My main symptom was pain and burning during and after intercourse. Doc diagnosed me with bacterial vaginosis after a pap smear. She game me the pill, I think called metronidazole (or close to that) and an antifungal cream. I guess it helped slightly relieve symptoms for a week or so but not much relief. I didn't go back to the doc, it was embarrassing and I didn't want to take the pills again. they made me feel sick and didn't work anyways.
3 days ago I tried the hydrogen peroxide mixed with distilled H20 (1/2 and 1/2 mix) and douched (never done that before!) and IMMEDIATELY the smell was gone and my vagina felt like it did years ago! I was thrilled! I went to the store and bought probiotics took one orally and upon others recommendations put one in my vagina at bedtime. I used the pearl capsules. The next morning I woke up burning and itching like I had a major yeast infection. I douched with the peroxide mix and felt better. I took another probiotic that day orally, NO MORE in the crotch! I think that did me in for the yeast infection.I also used a dose of monistat the 2nd night to fight any yeast infection that may have been brewing down there. So I'm on day 4 of taking probiotic once a day orally and douching maybe once a day with the peroxide mix. I have to say I think this is working!!!! I'm so happy I have my normal happy good smelling crotch back! It was so embarrassing before. I always worried about the smell and the pain during sex. My husband and I had sex on day 3 and I had 0 pain!!! I made him wash himself downthere very good before sex.
I'm really hoping this continues to work for me, I'm so scared to get BV back. It's nasty, embarrassing and just plain miserable.I'm going to try to continue taking the acidophilus pill (probiotic) daily, and only douche when I feel BV coming on.
PLEASE...if your having the same problems give the hydrogen peroxide mixed with distilled water a try! I couldn't believe the IMMEDIATE relief I had. On a side note, don't be afraid that the hydrogen peroxide is bad for you. It occurs naturally in the vagina and we get yeast and bacterial infections when levels are too low. The point of the acidophilus pills (probiotics) is to increase these good bacteria that produce hydrogen peroxide.
Goldenseal

Update!
So after trying goldenseal for 2 nights, everything was back to normal. Then about a week later, I got my period. After it was done, I noticed that the consistency of my natural discharge was thickening and something was not right. The smell was extremely faint but present so I decided to try goldenseal again to prevent a full blown reoccurrence. I've read that menstruation, like semen, can cause BV because it changes the PH in your vagina. Sooo, going to try goldenseal again now that period is over. I was so very pleased with the results the 1st time around and feeling hopeful about this time too. I just might have to insert goldenseal after each period, which i'm OK with since it cleared up the smell and discharge.

Well when I first thought this was a yeast infection, I tried all the eliminating carbs, sugars, anything that could feed bacteria and was eating more veggies and lean protein meats. I know this is BV now and I did that for a whole month. Now yes this did help me get rid of the crazy itching and burning, but til this day i still have nasty icky discharge and swelling in the vaginal area. I've tried several herbs garlic, grapefruit seed extract, echinacea/goldenseal, olive leaf extract, probiotic acidophilus, more vitamin supplements. And i still have discharge. I have now starting eating regular again incorporated carbs and sugars but i eat them more moderately and i still dont have the itching and burning. So I don't know what is the problem, but i'm going back to the doctor soon anyway. I can't take this anymore.

OK...this is crazy! I have been battling with BV for at least 6 months. I have tried absolutely everything that I've read from this site (and then some). Nothing seemed to completely work...only for a day or so. I was sick of taking things and shoving stuff up there! I had about given up, until I had an unexpected discovery. This is so weird and I'm curious to see if this has worked for anyone else out there. Last Sunday (so 5 days ago) my husband and I decided to hit the NO CARB diet hard...in trying to get swim suit ready. I kid you not, the next day, that horrible spell was almost absolutely GONE! I thought....no way! So it's been 5 days and NO itching, NO smell, NO discharge...i cannot believe it! And I feel like a new person. I really want to know if anyone else has experienced relief this way. Apparently, the SUGARs were doing my body wrong and giving the Bacteria a feeding frenzy. Now my body can fight back on it's own....no pills, no douche, no nothing!!
I love this new discovery....anyone else out there tried this. You should try it if nothing else has worked...I could tell something good was happening the very next day!
Good luck and I wish you all the BEST!

I tried the peroxide douche a couple of times and have been taking folic acid & acidophilus daily (I forget sometimes tho). It improved my BV but not cured. i still had a slight odor and odd discharge, although so much better than before. anyway, I was fed up and decided to pay the $16 my health food store charges for goldenseal.
i inserted one capsule at night, using a pantyliner the next day. Just in case, I did the same the night after. I'm on day 3 and the odor is completely gone. The jury is still out on discharge because I am still leaking the golden seal. The goldenseal leakage is slight, nowhere near as bad as BV discharge. I will definitely update a week from now. Thank you once again Earth Clinic!!

First of all, thank you to all the women who have shared their stories about BV. I've been dealing with BV now for 3 years. At first I thought I had hygeine issues and I was actually disgusted with myself! I used to douche every day. When I was diagnosed with BV about 1 year ago, I was given metronidozol, and ended up with a horrible yeast infection. I prefer to do things in a more holistic way, so I tried the acidophilis orally every day for a week. I also tried the hydrogen peroxide douche twice during that time. I did experience some relief. A couple days ago, though, I came across an article that mentioned using diluted honey with distilled water as a douche to treat vaginal yeast infections. I tried that 3 days ago, and again last night. I am so fresh and no discharge, no odor. I have found my treatment of choice for my BV. I used about 3tbsp in a standard size douche bottle, and filled the rest of the bottle with warm distilled water. Shake shake shake, insert, squeeze! The honey I purchased is 100% pure, uncooked, unfiltered. No oozing, no stickiness, or seepage after the douche either. Look up the benefits of honey for more info.

Here is an easy and fast remedy for bacterial vaginosis, which is relatively harmless but very smelly 'down there'. Simply put some virgin coconut oil in and around the vagina. The smell will be gone within hours but keep it going for a few days to make sure the infection is gone.

hello to other women with bv. i am 32 yrs old and i am a chronic bv. sufferer. i read this site and all the remedies others have suggested. i would like to add that the lady at the health food store told me to take colloidal silver instead of b-12. it comes in a small bottle with a dropper. you take one teaspoon full under the tongue once per day for maintenance. it was also suggested from another healthfood professional that colloidal silver is safe to douche with since peroxide seemed a little scary to me. i fill the dropper, lie on my back in the tub, insert, and let sit for 1-3 minutes. along with the garlic and acidopholis plus a ton of water the stench is gone. im not seeing any discharge either. what a great feeling. you can get silver in any healthfood store. the only other ingredient it has is pure water. whether the bv is gone or not i plan to maintain this regimin.

I started having problems a few years ago. Went to the dr. got precribed the medicine, it healed, but then was back within 2 months. I have 4 teen daughters so we're a very 'in touch with our feminine side' household. Everyone knows how to wash, wipe etc. This was my first experience with an STD since I was a teen. I am also married so there's no multiple partners. On my second trip to the drs. where I was almost in tears I was so frustrated about being back in his office so soon he took the time to explain a bit more. He told me in medical circles BV is often known as the 'clean freaks disease' (!) He asked me a bit about my bathing habits. I shower every day and at that time was washing that area with shower gel. I was also ice-skating alot and taking long baths with bath oils afterwards to ease the sore muscles. Basically he explained some women's vagina's ph level is very sensitive - and almost anything can throw it off, which then opens it up to the bacteria to invade - in my case it was probably perfumed shower gel and bath oils, but also sanitary products etct! I dropped the washing my privates with perfumed stuff and only use water and sometimes 'simple' or sensitive soap with no perfume. A private midwife friend suggested using a tampon dipped in live bio yogurt, which I now do after periods, and for a few hours after sex as a preventitive - and so far it's worked.

I wrote a post on BV sometime last year. The acidophilous and folic acid worked temporarily, but then sometimes it had no effect at all, esp after sexual intercourse or after my period. Then, I really changed a lot of habits and so far so good.
Bottom line: REALLY had to change my lifestyle.
No alcohol, very little sugar in my diet (including sweet fruits), fresh organic foods, quit smoking, reduced coffee, wear less tight-fitting pants, keep lower body warm, switched to CLOTH sanitary pads, take acidophilous and folic acid every day.
Also! NO birth control pills or antibiotics!
I think this whole thing has a lot to do with contemporary lifestyle. Most of our foods are very processed unless you're extra conscious to make an effort to eat organic foods, and I heard from a guy who works at a cracker company that the additives they use in order to keep the food looking like new is very dangerous. For instance, they might use on ingredient to prevent decay, and something else to give it a certain flavor; okay separately, but toxic if taken together. They don't take this into consideration. I think it's called "chemical coctail effect," and it will cause an imbalance to your natural hormone level; even impotence or prenatal deformity.
Second, I was ill about 9 years ago and the hospital gave me a lot of antibiotics. This completely killed my immune system. This is important b/c the acidophilous is a PRObiotic, which is a natural substance that helps boost your body's own immune system, whereas antibiotics will lower your body's immune system and kill the external virus through the medication's strength. If you've taken a lot of cold medicines, allergy meds, acne creams/meds etc, your natural immune system will likely be very weak! Therefore, don't look for a quick fix. It will only take you a step back from all the hard work you put into the acidophilous and folic acid.
Also, birth control pills will cause BV, too.
Another thing, I saw this documentary that sanitary pads and esp tampons, panty liners etc are very toxic. The cotton is bleached. Second, they use a lot of chemicals to keep the pads or tampons "clean." Artificial fragrances, chemicals to absorb more liquid etc. The thinner the pad, the more toxic it is b/c the chemicals are more condensed on a smaller surface. They tested the amount of toxins that emit from the pads. At first, before menstral blood seeped into the pad was ok, but more and more toxins were emitted as time lapsed. These toxins go into your vag, pores and harm the uterus and ovaries. Also, this is a big reason why we get that rotton smell when we menstrate. It's not really the menstral blood that will cause such a smell, it's because the toxins mix with the blood and cause this, not to mentin cramps. Of course, tampons are worse because it's like you've corked yourself up. The smell, cramps, bloating will be worse than when using pads. I changed to organic cloth sanitary pads. They feel amazing! No sticking to skin, no scraping, cramps are almost nonexistent, smell is gone.
I've been away from my bf for a month and a half and the BV is gone. Don't know if it's b/c I'm taking better care of my diet or if it's b/c I'm not having sex. Maybe both. I will update again after I see my bf again.
Vitamin D

Hello fellow lady members...on this forum: I have not been a poster here. But I've learned tremendously from other's comments/questions and trials. I take probiotics regularly. And then stopped. Right I still take regular multivitamin.
I tried the Hydrogen Peroxide douches, this worked but only temporarily. The next thing are the boric acid capsules inserted twice a week vaginally. The boric acid worked a bit longer. But as soon as I stopped inserting them vaginally, the vaginosis returned.
Here is the only thing that worked for me... MY CURE. I am a very studious person, love to research in the library. Doctors always told me my labwork came back normal. You will not believe how simple it turned out to be. I increased the amount of Vitamin D. I added Vitamin D3 to the regular multivitamin that I take daily. I went to WholeFoods Supermarket and purchased VITAMIN D3 (IT MUST BE D3). I take 2000 IU of Vitamin D3. And I also still take the multivitamin. LADIES THIS WORKED for me. We american's dont get enough sunshine cause we drive everywhere and wear sunblock, etc. Also I have always worked fulltime in a desk job. NO SUNLIGHT. EVER. Only get sun during the minutes I drive. Also I've stopped drinking milk due to intolerance, so I don't get vitamin D from milk either.
I researched at a medical library, the effects of being low on sunshine (or vitamin D)....and BV (vaginosis) is a side-effect of not getting enough vitamin D !!!! The medical article said that women with this BV (fishy odor) condition should be taking at least 2000 IU per day.
Warning is you should not take over 5000 IU. THE GOOD NEWS is, I've been BV free ever since. No odor, not even after sexual relations, NO ODOR at all. One thing is to take it religiously along with a multivitamin and a probiotic. And wait at least one month to see results. Also I stopped douching anymore. But this did it for me! Try it it's worth a try! I was desperate and Ifinally found this CURE for me personally after having this awful BV for almost one year and a half....have a happy holiday! Spread this solution to other ladies suffering unnecessarily.

Hello to all who have this unwanted bv,
Just wondering aloud here, but have any of you tried a
1:1 hydrogen peroxide (H202) daily douche for 3 or 4 days to see what it does?
Another possibility would be a SSKI or lugols solution
(maybe 20 or 25 drops/3 ounces warm water).
Both of these should be more beneficial reclining in your bathtub and retaining as long as possible.
Both of these are also known to kill off lots of pathogens.

Okay ladies so here is my update since my last post. I've been doing research for weeks about yeast infections and BV because I believe I have one or the other. I was already prescribed diflucan and used monistat cream for a yeast infection, but neither of those helped. I'm convinced that this is BV and not a yeast infection. I've had symptoms such as mild to severe itching, excessive yellowish discharge with a slight odor, burning sensation when urinating, and swelling of the vaginal area. In the beginning when I thought this was a yeast infection, I started taking the acidophilus and was doing the warm sitz baths with apple cider vinegar. Those helped with the itching temporarily and didn't really have complete relief. I then started doing more research and found that I had to change my eating habits, restore the good bacteria in my gut, and build my immune system. As of right now, the burning has gone away completely; the itching has subsided tremendously; I can sleep at night comfortably now. The only thing I still have is this nasty excessive yellowish discharge, but the odor is not as bad and I still have this off and on swelling. This is what I have been doing based on continuous weeks of research and reading posts from other women sufferers of this issue.
November 30, 2009 I started a change in my diet, reducing my sugar intake and carbs, making sure I don't eat anything with yeast in it, with high amounts of sugar, and gluten-free. I eat more veggies, lean meats and proteins, and 6-8oz of plain, non fat yogurt every morning. I have cut out breads, pastas, starches, rice unless it's whole grain pasta or brown rice. I don't eat much fruit as this contains sugar as well, but i drink the no sugar added cranberry juice.
December 10, 2009 I started incorporating Folic Acid, Vitamin C, Garlic, and Echinacea/Goldenseal Supplements supplements with my diet.
12/10 - 12/15 I took the following per day:
1 Folic Acid 800mcg
1 Vitamin C 500mg
4 Echinacea/Goldenseal Herb Supp. 1800mg
4 Garlic Softgels 4000mg
12/16 to present I took the following per day
2 Folic Acid 1600mcg
2 Vitamin C 1000mg
4 Echinacea/Goldenseal Herb Suppl 1800mg
4 Garlic Softgels 4000mg
I've been doing more research and I'm going to change up a few things. I am looking to incorporate Acidophilus/probiotic supplements, Vitamins A,D, and B12(to take with folic acid to prevent deficiency), and grapefruit seed extract supplements. I am also going to change from garlic softgels to ones with enteric coating because I read that enteric coating allows the capsules/tablets to break down where it is needed(in the gut) where as softgels break down in the stomach(because of our acid) not reaching the infected area. Garlic, Echinacea/Goldenseal, Grapefruit Seed Extract are natural herbs that act as natural antibitiocs with antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal properties.
I am really determined to beat this just as you ladies are and hope we can continue to help and educate each other with this problem as the doctors seem to not really care of offer up natural approaches. We all know this is because of money of course. Like I said before my issue I am still having is the discharge and the swelling and I would like to know any recommendations you ladies have with that and what all have you been doing to get rid of BV. Any tips are helpful.
Thanks!

Hi Dameimei,
I should clarify that the product I used specified ORAL use. I used 2 capsules a day orally, but added a third capsule in vag based on recommendations from others on this web site and from similar recommendations found on another site. I strongly suspect that the main factor responsible for my 5-day cure was the capsule inserted in vag. (a nurse I had consulted early on had recommended to use yoghurt in vag but I thought that was a messy solution...glad I found the capsules instead). If you don't find the product I used, I found an alternative product on the internet and it seems very promising: each capsule contains 5 billion live organisms, a mixture of:
lactobacillus rhamnosus and lactobacillus reteri.
In this case also the bottle specifies ORAL use but the web site hints that using in vag would produce faster results. Good luck!

Hi Simi,
I searched the web but I am not sure which product to get.. Does the capsule you use for vaginal insert has a vaginal use label on it? or is the same type you use orally? I can't find a probiotic for vaginal use contains as much as the one you use. I was at our local healthy food store for a hour today but I didn't find anything close to your neither (the contains of the probiotic). I know this site does not allow member to mention about the brand name so I know it's a bit tough to describe but I really need help. Thank you for all your advise, I really appreciate it!
EC: If you search "probiotics for restoring vaginal flora" on google you will find the brand!
Sorry, we've had hundreds of fake submissions over the years on the bacterial vaginosis section in particular, so we don't want to mention the brand name.

Hi Simi,
Thank you for replying. You are right, I use the same capsule as the one I take orally. That must be the problem.. My condition was better for a day but then started to get worse.. Good thing I stop after one day. My vag is now swollen a bit and irritated. I need to find the right type for inserting. Once again, thank you!

Hello Dameimei,
I suspect that 1 capsule a day would do the job (at bedtime). The discharge I had seemed to be similar to yours (no smell, transluscent witish-grey color). It was all gone after 5 days of treatment with the probiotic capsules. You are probably not using the same type of capsules that I used (my bottle specified that they were for restoring vaginal flora).
Anyway, you're on the right track. Don't give up!

Hi Simi,
I have been suffering from yeast then BV for almost a week now. I think it started as yeast but turned into BV now. (I had to take some antibiotic a week before for urinary tract infection and then I started to have white chunky discharge). I also follow the remedies which suggested by many people on this site but it has not cleared (it has been 5 days now).
I am taking 1 garlic supplement, 2 L. Acidophilus capsules and 1 multivitamin (I use Folic Acid on the first 2 days but then slow down since my mutivatamin has folic acid). I also inserted 1 L. Acidophilus capsule two nights ago. The first morning after I tried the L. Acidophilus in vagina, I felt a lot better. I then insert another one few hours after I woke up and one later in the afternoon. I then started to have itchiness and irritation on my vagina. The white chunky discharge seems almost gone but I started to have light ivory color discharge. The discharge is more liquid form with a light smell. The smell is not fish at all, not like most people with BV. It is a very light smell. I think I may insert too frequanly. Did you have the similar discharge after you use the probiotic capsule in vag?
I stop insert it in my vag since I am not sure if I am actually making my condition worst by insert more bacteria. Please let me know if you also have discharge and how you feel during the treatment. Maybe I just need to limit to one at night. Thank you!

I am so grateful for this web site and the recomendations which helped me to cure my BV (bacterial vaginitis). I am 60 years old and have not had any symptoms for the past 10 years. My BV symptoms consisted of a sudden appearance of an abundant discharge on DAY 1 (Nov 7th). After 7 days of treatment for a yeast infection there was no improvement. Finally I found your site on DAY 20 and immediately bought 2 products at the pharmacy:
- multivitamin pills (which included 0.4 mg floric acid)
- 50 capsules of a probiotic mixture which caught my attention as I was looking in the store for acidophilus. Each capsule contains:
300 million bifidobacterium bifidum
300 million bifidobacterium longum
300 million lactobacillus acidophilus
5.1 billion lactobacillus rhamnosus
For 5 days I used the following remedy:
1 multivitamin
2 capsules of probiotic taken orally (morning and evening)
1 capsule of probiotic inserted in vag. (at bedtime)
On the 3rd day I observed a slight improvement
On the 4th day, I observed considerable improvement
On the 6th day I stopped inserting the capsule in the vigina. (and the discharge was negligeable the next morning)
I have had no discharge since then!!
On the 9th day I stopped taking the multivitamins
Very soon, I will reduce the probiotics to one a day orally (and replace with probiotic yougurt in my diet)
I hope this information can help others. I also switched to 100% cotton and only white underwear.
I had tried the diluted H2O2 wash twice a day, but soon gave it up, because I had a better cleaner feeling from using very mild unscented soap.

Yay for tea tree oil! Like many other people, I have suffered from BV for a year and was on several different antibiotics. As soon as I stopped treatment, the infection returned. Frustrated, I began to explore alternative treatments. I tried just about everything under the sun: hydrogen peroxide, apple cider vinegar, folic acid, acidophilus, garlic; nothing worked. Having read that everyone's body is different I kept at it, but it was a difficult process to find my miracle cure. Tea tree oil changed everything. I douche with it every couple days or as soon as symptoms start appearing. After one treatment the symptoms are gone. I use 15-20 mL of water and 12 drops of tea tree oil, but start with much less oil (1 or 2 drops) and see what you can handle, because it will burn, especially if the vagina is inflamed and sore.

I have been dealing with I thought was a yeast infection then all of a sudden I noticed a foul smelling odor afterwards that was hard to get rid of, however; I just used the garlic gel pills that is 1,000 mg and inserted (2 pills) in my vagina for two days in between those days a discharged occurred but I guess it was normal for that to happen but I am now odor and discharge free. Why? did I do this because when you go to the doctor they give you pencillin and next to that if you can't afford the visit garlic is next in line to cure you. I read this site whereas everyone is using gel pills so I went home and inserted the garlic gel pills instead remind you I had this infection for about a good 3 months and it was getting worse now. I am cured. Just keep washing with dove unscented soap and keep a dry unscented pantiliner on day and night to keep yourself dry. Remember garlic eats yeast and purifies. I advise you all not to douche just keep your system flush with fluid because that vinegar/water douche by equate irritated me that caused this to happen.

Saywhat from Chandler. Sounds like a BV to me, I was in the same boat as you they thought it was a yeast infection. The Diflucan will giving abdominal cramping, especially if you take more than one does, plus it can give you a headache. I only have the slight discharge and burning from the BV. I do the hydrogen perioxide mix and a small syringe (no needle on it) and insert it slightly up in the va-ja area, then I also squirt a little around the outside area. I have been doing this for about 3 weeks now and am now only doing it about 4 times a week. Plus I take a folic acid and an acidophylius in the a.m. in the pill form with the rest of my vitamins.
Good luck with your BV and your other serious illness :)

★★★☆☆BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS
I have read pages and pages of posts on this site. A week ago I was checked, as a last resort, for a yeast infection (I was sick but nobody could figure out from what so the vag check was a last resort). I had no itching, burning, oder, discomfort, or discharge but the Dr. said I had a small amount of discharge but it was "up there". He swabbed me anyway and sent it off to the lab but gave me a Diflucan in the meantime-which I took immediately. Two days later his office called and said the labs came back and showed BV and they had already called in a Rx for Flagyl (which I filled but never took--WAY too many side effects and I was already sick). It has now been 8 days since I took the Diflucan and I never felt like I had a yeast infection in the first place. I've been taking 5 billion CFU, multi-strain, probiotics w/ nutraflora (200mg) 2xday, 1000 mg vitamin C, and 1000 mg garlic daily for a few days now. I check everytime I go to the bathroom and there has never been the tale-tale smell of BV. Today though, I started feeling achy in my abdomen and my sunshine started to itch on the outside. Doesn't hurt to pee but it's uncomfortable feeling on the surrounding area. So, now what? Is this yeast, BV, or a mystery? The only thing I haven't done is take the folic acid and insert a capsule. Garlic will treat bacterial and viral infections but I don't think I'm up for shoving one up there, ya know? I can buy plain yogurt and folic acid tomorrow if anyone thinks that might do it. Thoughts, opinions, suggestions definitely welcome! Fortunately, I am not used to getting these infections but my PH (and everything else) has been off lately due to a serious illness. Thanks for everything!!!! LOVE this site!!!!
