I took 200-300 mg of the Grapefruit seed extract 2 x a day - about 500 mg thruought the day total-
I got it quickest in a capsule form - so I opened up the capsules and poured the content into water with some electrolyte flavored power (I use Ultima powder)
Also I used Jarrow NAG - 2 x a day
Drank Aloe Vera Juice as recommended - about 2 ounces, 3-4 x a day
1-2 Dropperful of Slippery Elm Bark liquid
Almost immediately after using the 1st round of GFSE, I felt relief a bit - within 48/60 hours of starting this regimen I am pain free and eating again. Was doing mainly liquids, fruits and cooked veggies. Now after 4-5 days of no pain, I'm back to fairly normal with chicken and other foods. Haven't had any Beef, Brisket or BBQ yet! Def feel like the GFSE was the main component that helped but all 4 things played a part. I also take digestive enzymes daily as a routine and a variety of supplements Wow! Gotta thank this thread and EarthClinic - My go to place anytime I have health related issues!

What have you found that the aloe does for diverticulitis? Does it soothe the intestines or does it actually help get rid of the infection? Thank you :)

Steve is correct. You have to do this around the clock. A few capsules here or there are not going to work. You have to take them consistently around the clock the first sign you may be having a flareup. Like say every two hours. Even if you get up to pee at night, take either 2 olive leaf or 2 oregano initially. Alternate them.
This really works to get rid of the infection.

Fast-forward almost a month after my first flare up, I had a second- and more severe, flare up the first week of February. Since I had just completed a cycle of two strong antibiotic/antifungal, I did not want to go through a second cycle, at the risk of developing C-Diff. So I purchased some GSE, Slipper Elm extract, and Aloe Vera juice to try instead.
I've been taking 12 drops of GSE mixed with 1 full dropper of slippery elm into 8oz water- 3 times daily. In addition, I am drinking 5 oz. of aloe vera juice once in the morning. Just as the antibiotics, it took a good 7 days for the pain to completely resolve. But as I already mentioned, this flare-up was MUCH worse than the first one. As far as I can tell, the natural combo of GSE, Slippery Elm, and Aloe Vera juice works AT LEAST as well as the antibiotics; and they won't mess up my gut like antibiotics will.
I'm planning to stick with the aforementioned dosage until I've completed 10 days; then I will decrease to just one dose of GSE and aloe vera juice per day for maintenance. I think I've found a winner to keep this under control moving forward!

Were you using the maximum strength or the regular strength?
Thanks for your help.
Grapefruit Seed Extract
If someone who had had diverticulitis and found relief from GSE, would be kind enough to mention the dosage but ALSO, whether it was Maximum strength or the Regular strength version that they used, that would be great. Thanks.

Once you are out of the woods, then you can cut back to porridge and eventually solids.
I know that I did not answer your question on GSE, because I think that you will find many subjective answers. What I can tell you is that the state that you say you are in is very close to the state that puts me in the hospital and at very high risk of sepsis. IMO, you cannot worry about how long you can take GSE (albeit, I feel that low doses daily is totally fine for me. Something like 125mg GSE.). You are trying to avoid permanent damage as well as toxic shock.
Probiotics are fine for the most part. Just know that some people, including myself sometimes get constipated from certain types. Find the one that works for you. I find that Visbiome and culturelle work best with my body.
One more thing to try: N-A-G. When I am in the woods, I add N-A-G to the mix. While I know that most of my issues alleviated from GSE alone. I've read quite a bit on N-A-G and it should definitely help. I find it more effective than slippery elm and agrees with my body more.
Good luck.

I have had diverticulitis bouts for years. I have been in the hospital 2 times, and bedridden many more times. I have tried many, many remedies. Some of these remedies showed a bit of promise, but never really gave the feeling that they directly addressed my issues. Notably, probiotics for preventive. Oil of oregeno for symptoms was my most effective combatant against my issues, until one day I stumbled on a huge string of posts about using GSE as well as NAG to combat Diverticulitis. That day I ordered NutriBiotics GSE and Jarrow N-A-G. 2 days later, during one of my worst infections I started taking both of these products. By the next morning, the difference was night and day. So much so that I was intending on going to the hospital if I wasn't better. Since then, I have used GSE and N-A-G to address Diverticulitis infections with 100% success for years!
I should note that Both the hospital resident, as well as my primary care told me that I would likely need surgery "Due to the progression of my Diverticulitis". Not the clinical version of what they said, but you get the point.
My personal treatment:
During infection/flare up: 2 250mg GSE pills twice a day, 1 700mg N-A-G twice a day.
When I feel a weird pain in my gut that may lead to something worse: 1 250mg GSE pill once a day for 3 days
For me, I feel that N-A-G is less important. GSE is the big player here. But I swear by the combo when I need to stamp out the issue ASAP.
Just thought I would share something that has changed my life and IMO needs much more visibility in the world of diverticulitis treatment!

Better But With Side Effects
I have been taking Aloe Vera Juice (Whole Leaf) for over two years for diverticulitis. I was just in the ER twice in one week with heart issues, low potassium and electrolyte imbalances. The cardiologist suggested it could be the Aloe Vera juice and had me read a few articles, including one from the Mayo clinic, that have severe warnings about internally taking it which described almost all of my symptoms. I'm wondering if anyone has heard any dangers about it? I was happy taking it and really thought it worked; now I'm not so sure.

Look for Aloe that is made from the fillet and NOT "Whole Leaf" The latex lining of the green outer skin contains laxative ingredients and the side effects listed by the Mayo Clinic. Almost all Aloe on the market is processed with activated charcoal to remove the latex component.

Unfortunately, my mother-in-law is in the hospital as we speak having already gone through the medical world's surgical process. However, having seen her pain etc., I want to make sure we are well armed to prevent any such attack on other family members. Would be so grateful if you could advise on what you did.

I have had pain in my left side on and off for a year and sometimes felt like I had a fever, shaking, nausea, bowel problems, and now affecting my bladder. etc. My G.P had only ever done urine tests but they have been normal. I think I have diverticulitis and I'm waiting for a scan to be done to confirm or not.
After reading the comments here, I have been taking Grapefruit Seed Extract (GSE) @10 drops x 3 times a day plus aloe vera high strength and slippery elm for 3 weeks, which I feel is just keeping me stable until I get a diagnosis. I'm now just taking the GSE and each time I reduce it to twice a day I start to feel not well again. ( infection symptoms)
I have changed my diet. I am eating porridge, some fruits and lots of veg. I can tolerate fish if not oily, but not meat. I only drink water or herbal tea. I take probiotics
How long is it ok to take the GSE for at full dose and is there anything else I need to do, please?

I took a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar (acv) in some water, then drank the blended aloe. It only took a couple days to get right again. The acv in case you didn't know, neutralizes any bacteria or germs growing in the gut. The aloe heals. l am going to try the salt cure, as l am looking for a cure for the diverticula, and tired of the diets needed to prevent the inflammation.

Here is what works for me. I share this in hopes you can pull any info and apply to your healing journey that may work for you.
At first awareness of onset, I rotate doses of 15 drops GSE [Grapefruit Seed Extract], 10 drops oil of oregano, 1 dropper of olive leaf extract. One of those supplements taken per hour. It's important to dose aggressively for the first 1-2 days while on a liquid diet. If you can get ahead of the infection early, you should be able to prevent complications. Once symptoms subside, the schedule changes from hourly doses to 5/6 rotating doses per day until symptoms are gone. This timeframe varies by individual, but 1-2 weeks is typical for me. I also incorporate castor oil packs placed on the inflamed area 1-2 times per day until symptoms are gone. It is important to supplement with a high quality probiotic following this treatment because your good gut bacteria will be destroyed along with the bad bacteria you are trying to get rid of. And remember that diet and food intolerances causes low grade inflammation which is a contributing factor in most attacks. The book “breaking the vicious cycle” has helped tens of thousands of people heal over the course of a few decades. I'd strongly recommend it to anyone suffering with diverticulitis like I have. Remember you can easily heal, but it takes time, planning, commitment, and dedication. It's not easy or fun, but it beats the alternatives of hospitals, prescriptions, and surgeries. Best of luck in your own healing journey.
