Heating Pad

All these things most likely work. People are great about sharing things like this. For my Diverticulosis IMMEDIATE relief while waiting for these other things to work: a heating pad held firmly against your painful area works great. Sometimes it is all I need. I saw where someone wrote a warm bath helps. This is the same premise, only faster. Trust me, it feels great right away. HAPPY RELIEF.

They say nuts, seeds, and high fiber don't cause diverticulitis but if you do have it, you shouldn't eat them because they can cause a flare up. They are small enough to get caught in the sacs and cause inflammation or infection.

Re the Asian squat, the simplest way is to take the stepping stool out from the closet, place it in front of the toilet bowl, after you sit down, rest your feet on it and bend your upper body as forward as possible. Lift your heels as much as you can so your belly touches the thighs. Then do your business.
This position will gentle the pressure on the anus, thus helping those who suffer from hemorrhoid, or those who love to sit on the toilet bowl playing their cellphones for hours!
Bon Voyage!

I had always had bowel problems, since teenage, which I considered to be IBS, and then recently had a bout of diverticulitis (first time) that ended in a hospital stay and recommended surgery after my recuperation - until I realized that surgeons generally know and care about little but operating. I put surgery on hold, and through Earth Clinic and other sources developed a regimen that may be half placebo, but it works!
I begin the day with a small glass of plain organic kefir and a probiotic capsule (35 billion microorganisms, 15 strains - be sure to include B. infantis) sprinkled with baking soda. I end the day with a glass of warm water with 1 tsp ACV, 1 tsp lemon juice, sprinkled with cayenne. I make sure to have 6 to 8 glasses of liquid a day.
My most important discovery. Several medical sites mentioned that many developing world people have no such bowel problems (which, through straining, etc., lead to diverticulosis). Usually they attribute it to diet. One medical researcher attributes it instead to their use of the squat toilet, which places their bodies in a better position for bowel movements. My husband and I fashioned a sort of deck to surround my toilet so that I could use it in this way. It's actually quite beautiful, stained to match the woodwork - looks like something you'd see in an Indonesian hotel. Magic!!!! It's as if I never had a bowel problem. So regular and easy that others might say it's boring
I have great hope for the future. I don't know which change is the decisive one (I know I wouldn't give up the squat toilet for anything) but they are all easy to put into practice, so I will continue with the lot.
Horseradish, Garlic or Tummy Vibration
Posted by Don (Michigan) on 11/22/2018
★★★★★
The treatment that helps to clear my diverticulitis is an old type wide belt tummy vibrator. I use it two or three times a day and in a 2 or 3 days the colon pockets empty out.
The treatment to clear the bacteria depends on the pathogen. Most times pure horseradish clears it in a day or two. One rounded teaspoon 3 times a day. This current time horseradish did not match the bacteria but raw garlic did. About 5 sliced raw garlic cloves per day. Eaten throughout the day as pain returned. Took 3 days to clear.

WONDERFUL SHAKE RECIPE that WORKS! incorporates a lot of ingredients mentioned here.
My husband and parents have both suffered from diverticulitis and this has worked for all of them...
1 hour BEFORE you eat OR 1.5 hours AFTER you eat, drink the following shake once in morning and once at night.
Ingredients:
- 1 dropper of papaya extract (note: if you only have the pill then continue on and I will address this at the bottom)
- 1 cup almond milk
- 1/2 banana
- 1/2 TBS organic honey (for taste and soothing properties)
- 12 drops of GSE (grapefruit seed extract)
- 1 dropper of slippery elm
- 1/3 cup aloe vera juice/gel
- 1/2 cup ice
Put all in a blender, blend and drink.
After you drink your shake, take a probiotic and 800mg of turmeric gelcap. Also if you didn't have the papaya extract then take the papaya pill now.

i just joined this site to say how helpful this diverticulitis thread has been and specifically the mention of NAG (N-Acetyl Glucosamine), which I hadn't heard of....the other things helped with the probable infection, but it is NAG that has stopped most of my abdominal discomfort in the matter of days...also my sinuses unclogged and my skin is soft as can be as well...highly recommended.
I have varied between 3-6 grams a day.

Yes, anyone can have an allergic reaction to any herb or plant that will detox you. Aloe is a very strong detox - makes me sick * don't listen to what the masses out there say -most are wrong even the docs and super food guru's -- ask within for guidance --psyllium will heal the divertic but small amounts at once.

Have had about 4 or 5 diverticulitis flare ups. Each time, one table of Grapefruit Seed Extract cured the sharp pain in my left abdomen fast. It can be bought at health food store or online. I'm so thankful to know about this, because I'm terrible at handling pain!!! I take it most of the time to prevent further problems, and it is helps with inflammation as well.

Well, I've had diverticulitis on and off for many years. It started acting up 2 weeks ago after a trip overnight and eating different foods. My friend came over today and told me to take Apple Cider Vineger. Which I did. At first felt the sharp pain in my lower GI worsening, so I started on my way to the ER. By the time I got there the symptoms were getting better. So I turned around and I'm now feeling about 40% better.
Hot bath, warm water drink and apple cider vineger....could be a cure.

Was your grapefruit seed extract nutribiotic. In a white and tan squeeze bottle. I've been taking that since my last flare in June and haven't had another. I've had four total and the last two were feb and June. I take 12 drops daily and also I take oil of oregano capsules by gai. 2 a day. They are expensive but supposed to be best quality. I'm having twinges now so I will double up on both until they stop. Shawn female 54

Well I can't say that nuts and seeds actually “cause” diverticulitis; however, if you have an unknown flare up and consume these foods, the situation will be exacerbated. I can tell you my first flare up ever came after gorging on peanuts on a road trip and every other flare up I have had since then has been a result of eating cucumbers or popcorn, cashews, peanut m&m's, okra, corn, gumbo made with roux (oil and flour paste) tomatoes, raw broccoli, excessive roughage etc...I can also say this has been the same for my mother, oldest sister and only brother so this has been my experience and that of others. Also, I am a nurse and I have seen quite a few patients with flare ups caused by the same.

I swear by Grapefruit Seed Extract for diverticulitis. I was getting a flare up every 4-6 months for 3 years. Haven't had a flare up in over a year since I started taking it. 10 drops 3x a day during flare ups and they disappear in 2 days.
Now I take 10 drops every morning in a glass of Concord grape juice and doing great. Vitamin Shoppe sells it. It worked better than antibiotics

Grapefruit Seed Extract for Diverticulitis
I had my first attack of Diverticulitis just over a week ago. I saw a doctor to confirm my self diagnosis and he told me if the attack hadn't got better in two weeks to go back and I would have blood tests. I had no appetite or energy and had pretty much constant gut aches and pains. I lost seven pounds in one week because I didn't want to eat although I had a little fruit twice a day. I came on this site yesterday and saw that someone had had great success with GSE. It was said by someone else that GSE contains two nasty chemicals produced in the processing and thought it might be the two chemicals that stopped the attack. I had some GSE manufactured chemical free. I bought it online because I was also worried about the two chemicals. So I thought I would try the chemical free one made in France as I had had it in my cupboard for a few months and hadn't tried it. I took the recommended 15 drops in half a glass of water and in about two hours the Diverticulitis just went away. I had no pain at all through the night and this morning but thought it would come back as it had caught me out before. I took another dose this morning and the Diverticulitis has not come back. I had my usual fruit for breakfast and at around late lunchtime I felt a bit hungry so I had a small salad. Tonight I had soup and two small slices of Soda bread. First food I have had in the evening for just over a week. I wish I had known about GSE when my mother suffered with Diverticulitis but maybe it wasn't around then.

75% fat 20% protein &5% carbs but u have to eat alot of vegetables so I add like 70 % veggies and alot of animal fat only with protein about 10% I know the percentage is not correct but that's what worked for me but I swear it helped. Now to find out whats going on with my eyes I'll see. Good luck guys

I have taken flagyl off and on for 5 years for diverticulitis. Early on took cipro along with the flagyl. Cipro caused tendonitis so I only took the flagel. After 4-5 days the pain would go away. Appx 1 1/2 months ago got sick and started amoxicillin. One week later got Diverticulitis. Took a round of flagel. 4-5 days later the pain went away. Last week started feeling the diverticulitis again. I did not want to take anymore antibiotics. After 3-4 days the pain was was about the same. Then I found this site. There is a post by someone talking about aloe vera and turmeric (publix fruit of earth).
Monday started 1/3 -1/2 cup aloe and 1 450 mg turmeric pill 3 X a day. Tuesday still pain. Wednesday it seemed the pain was going away. Thursday morning the pain was gone. (Knock on Wood) Don't know what I will do next. Most likely will stay on this level for the next several days and then cut back. If you have any recommendations please advise.
Thank god for this site. John
PS. Don't know how severe my diverticulitis is. But a year or so ago had a CT scan which they confirmed diverticulitis.

I would love to know how your mother is doing with her diverticulitis now that it's been some time. Is the GSE still working for her? I'm having a light bout of it now. I've had to take the antibiotics 6 times since 2009. They are rough and I'm wondering if the GSE is a longer term way to beat diverticulitis flare ups. Wishing your mother well, Patrick T.

I have had diverticulitis for years. It flares up a couple times a year BAD. I go to Dr. I get cipro and flagyl. Last few times did not help. So I read about the apple cider vinegar and cayenne pepper drink here.
2 tablespoons Apple Cider Vinegar and 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper in 10 oz of water. (Stanley from Huntingdon, Pa)
It worked in an hour. I would have paid $100 the night before to sleep and not hurt. I just couldn't. Pepto, Advil nothing helped. Then I read this. It worked. I'm still sore from 5 days of hurting but this mix is real deal. I mean it was that noticeable that quick. It's awful tasting. But worth the $10 I spent on acv and pepper

Wildbill62 is correct. This is a serious conditon and not always apparent how bad the infection is, but it does progress until you need surgery or you get a perforation that kills you. Make sure you get a proper diagnosis, and initially you should be taking flagyl as this is an anaerobic bacteria and there are not many things that can reach that kind of infection once you have it. I HATE antibiotics but after researching for alternatives (which I have yet to find) for this horrid drug, I will bite the big bullet. Aloe will make your gut feel better but beware of claims that it will heal this kind of infection. Also, make sure you are on a liquid diet. Juice your vegys, make bone broth, Dr. Mercola has a good basic recipe on his web site for that, and take a good probiotic as well because any antibiotic will destroy the good bacteria as well as the bad. Eating wisely for this condition will help keep it in check after you are better.

You can't fill the pockets, that is what causes the problem, when something gets caught in there, it causes an infection to start. I read a lot on this, I have it and all things point to a low fiber diet. When you get an attack, stop eating solid foods and go liquid all day, let your intestines clear out. Probiotics, digestive enzymes, aloe tabs, help immensely .
