Hemorrhoid Relief: Top Home Remedies and Causes Explained

Vicks

I just had the biggest hemorrhoid ever. I couldn't close my legs or walk or sit or lay down or stand, or even wear underwear and tighter pants. It was the size of a peach pit and protruded out from my cheeks. I wanted to scream. I desperately tried ACV, sitz baths, castor oil, iodine, aloe. The castor oil soothed it a little, but didn't reduce the size of this raging behemoth. ACV didn't do anything and diluted iodine just burned. Aloe went inside my hole by accident and really stung inside all night long. The sitz baths felt good while doing them, but when I dried off, it was back to normal for ol rhoidy. Vicks is the only thing that has soothed it within a minute of application, and decreased the size by half overnight. I was able to walk, sit, and wear underwear again! In three days it went from the size of a peach pit to a small peanut. I could cry; I am so appreciative.

NOTE: I originally had a can of knock-off Vicks from Amazon (bought a while ago) that did not work at all. Why? It did not have turpentine. Turpentine is the key ingredient. I found that out from my sister and immediately went to the store and bought Vicks, and that was the key. A lot of store brands comparable to Vicks do have turpentine, but you have to check those ingredients!

Spring Water

The whole story started a few years ago. In brief, I had problems with breathing. The doctor, professor of medicine, without any thorough examination for the possible reasons (most probably the reason was stress), prescribed antibiotics without any protection (ie. probiotics).

Well, in fact he examined the lungs and didn't find anything suspicious but anyway, preventatively, he prescribed antibiotics. I wasn't wise enough to protect myself on my own at that time.

After completing the treatment with antibiotics I contracted Clostridium difficile infection in a quite severe form. I was very reluctant to take another
antibiotic to kill the infection and that was the mistake. Eventually I took the prescribed metronidazole. Lucky for me it worked and fought the infection (the proof that antibiotics are not always so bad). Unfortunately I waited too long and as a result I got IBS-D (diarrhea form of irritable bowel syndrome). I guess, at that time my microbiota (microorganisms living in the guts) was completely messed up.

As a result of frequent discharging (about ten times a day) I developed internal hemorrhoids (bleeding during discharge, no pain). I tried the methods described on this site but without success.

I was depressed. Finally, without much hope, I switched, in my daily beverages (tea, coffee, water), from tap water to spring water bought at a local shop.
To my surprise, it worked. After three weeks bleeding disappeared, discharging stabilized at once a day on average (although still every couple of days in a liquid form).

I should also mention that this changing from tap to spring water helped my mother-in-law to stop stomach mucosa bleeding caused by tonnes of medicines she is taking. Before that she regularly, once a year, visited hospital to have blood transfusions.

As I am a man of reason, I tried to find some explanation for this. The only explanation which comes to my mind is the following one.

Tap water in my city (as I guess is the case in most places) is chlorinated ie. chlorine compounds are added to water during its treatment to disinfect it.

Chlorine acts on the body as a drying agent (you can notice the effect of dry skin when washing hands in chlorinated water and this is not only soap causing it) and probably, as a result intestinal mucosa becomes dried up, less flexible and more prone to mechanical microdamage during discharge.

As for my IBS-D, it is still there, but in a much milder form. I guess the reason is imbalanced microbiota in my intestines. Most probably I should change my diet to cure it. I know that first of all I should eliminate sugar, but I am simply addicted to it.

I hope this simple and inexpensive method will help the people with similar health problems.

Inversion Therapy

If rutin hasn't stopped the 'roids', borrow an inversion swing. it won't stop you getting the nasties, but will get rid of them until the next attack. and it won't take 24-48 hours, like other miracle remedies, but probably in only 10 mins. or so. Not suitable if pregnant, heavily overweight or with weak ankles. Takes a little getting used to, as you hang upside down like a bat hanging from the ceiling of a cave. Mine has become redundant ever since I started using rutin, but before that the 'swing' was my lifesaver. if, after getting a swing, you have difficulties in using it or getting results, post back for further advice-I've become something of an expert on its usage.

as I got hemorhoids after every bowel movement, which was 1-2 times a day, I was using the swing that many times. after I used the swing, the hemorhoids would be gone until the next bowel movement when I would repeat the process. as stated, the swing does not prevent you getting hemorhoids in the first place, but when you do get them the swing can get rid of them in as little as 2-3 minutes with a little practise. initially, you may have to spend as long as 8-10 minutes until you get the hang of it. believe me, this device borders on the miraculous when it comes to the relief of hemorhoids when all else has failed. please note that most swings come with grossly inadequate foam protection for your ankles when hanging upside down-you will probably have to substantially the foam, or find a far better way of supporting your ankles. please give this method a good try- please reply back if you experience any problems. I speak from first hand experience.

Avoid Blood Thinners

Hemorrhoid prevention/cure by avoiding blood thinners/clot preventers (NSAID, fish oil):

I am a 39 y.o. male, 5'11" 160lb, fit and active. Half Asian and very lactose intolerant, I got my first hemorrhoid a couple months ago. It followed tarry stools and toilet straining I attribute to cheap feta cheese that probably had lactose, and also NSAID I took for headache. I believe the toilet strain + NSAID blood thinning caused it. Healed in a week.

Second hemorrhoid occurred a couple months later, with no poor stools, lactose irritation, or other changes I know except for taking 2 capsules of fish oil (each "1200mg fish oil, 360mg total Omega 3 fatty acids DHA EPA") with lunch daily, chewed with food. After five days of this I woke up with what seems to be relapse of the first hemorrhoid. Just woke up with it, didn't even pass stool that morning yet! The fish oil has a warning if one has bleeding problems. This alerted me to the fact that fish oil thins blood and inhibits clotting and blood vessel constriction, and I suspect it causing the spontaneous relapse. I discontinued it and it healed in a week again.

I have found the holy grail of hemorrhoid treatment that worked for me almost immediately...I thought I would never be free, ..I even had a colonoscopy, & the well known Dr.who took great pride in being smarter than me about these things didn't even give any solution than more fiber & water! But I've discovered essential oils of myrrh & cypress with coconut or olive oil as carrier oils. The holy grail I found first though, was Ma Ying Long, an award winning solution for hemy over in China.

I've been struggling with hemorrhoids all my life, and acne as well, so one time I read that vitamin A can help with acne so I start eating beef liver, pretty decent amount everyday until I found the correct amount to eat everyday for my acne to completely stop. Well, I didn't expect it but it also stopped my hemorrhoids completely. It seems that for me eating a lot more than the recommended amount of vitamin A everyday fixes all my problems.

Turmeric

Hi all. Hems, how annoying. I endured an internal one that would present itself during bowel movements with depressing regularity. Such an annoying and bothersome condition because you're daily reminded about it. Acv, coconut oil, garlic orally and suppository, more fibre, more water, more fruit, more exercise, molasses, cayenne you name it. I tried all of the things I read about here and sure I'm probably more healthy because of it but over a couple of years I have not seen any improvement.... Until about a week ago I started taking Tumeric. I cannot say for sure that it is the singular factor but the correlation of significant improvement with this condition and taking tumeric seems too close to ignore. I say improvement only because I'm still finding it hard to believe that the condition may actually be fixed as I approach with trepidation, every passing motion. People are here because, I guess like me, they prefer natural remedies, don't want surgery and aren't having luck with chemist bought stuff. If you've got hems you've probably done a stack of research and realise that why we get them is still open to conjecture. Some say candida, some say not enough fibre, straining on the toilet etc, in some way I guess you could link them all up as digestive. I'm not a doctor and the stuff I'm reading about Tumeric/Curcurmin talks about how it's anti inflammatory , antic bacterial and a natural liver detoxifier as well as a bunch of other ways its good for you. Anyway I just thought I'd add my experience to the list.

I take a couple of 500mg Tumeric/curcumin tablets with meals every day and after a few days I was surprised by an improvement ( I wasnt taking it explicitly for hemms ) and then after around a week things seem to have at least 90 percent improved, I say 90 percent, maybe its a 100 it's just that after a couple of years with it it's difficult to know what a "normal" bowel movement without a hemm appearing feels like. Anyway if you find yourself in a similar position to me you might want to give Tumeric/curcumin a try. The last thing I wanted to do was subject myself to surgery because of it. It's an annoying condition, like many I suppose, because its depressing and a constant annoyance but hopefully this is the factor that helped me and with many luck you too. Good luck and be patient finding something that will work.

I was trying so many things to cure myself topically, until I finally got wise and tried this. All of the internet hemorrhoid cures being sold out there have ginger and cayenne. I decided to try making my own.

Mix equal parts ginger and cayenne, and then throw in a dash of turmeric. Fill large gel caps you can get a a health store or online.

I take two pills in the morning, and two at night. You can take one with lunch too.

Make sure to drink a glass or two of water when you take them. This prevents burning your stomach and also drinking lots of water helps soften your stool, not to mention it makes everything in your body work better.

I try to cook with ginger and turmeric whenever possible. I'm not so good with spicy, but if I was, I would cook with cayenne too.

The swelling of the hemorrhoids should start to go away as soon as a day, as long as a week. I think it took two days for me to feel results. I've been taking them a month and I'm completely pain free for weeks now. I can use dry toilet paper (though I never recomend it) and I couldn't even touch myself down there last month without intense pain. I also take magnesium to help keep stool soft since fiber and water weren't cutting it.

This mix also helps with other vascular issues like varicose veins, and joint inflamation.

Good luck!

Bulgarian Tribulus Terrestris for Hemorrhoids

This unique herb helped my husband to get rid of his inflamed and bleeding (on and off) hemorrhoids after 26 years of suffering. I bought him 3 bottles of it because they told us he needs to take it for 3 months with a week break in between. Well, he never even got to the second bottle, his hemorrhoids diminished after taking the herb for about two weeks, but he took the capsules for one month. It has been about two months after he stopped taking it, he still cannot believe they are gone, they are not coming back even after he has constipation or ate a spicy meal. Make yourself a favor, do not buy the most expensive product out there, they are not any better, just buy the cheapest one with the yellow label, I am not affiliated with any websites or anything like that, I am just a happy woman for my husband and want to share our success with other sufferers. The one I bought costs about $7 a bottle, and it worked wonders. I will not stop recommending this herb and spreading the word.

And one more benefit - improved libido! Just don't overdo it, because there is a warning for people with enlarged prostates and pregnant women! Do your research first and try it for yourself, you will be glad you did! God Bless this website!

Aloe Vera

Hello All, I am so grateful I found this site. I was getting desperate to find a remedy that worked in the hope of avoiding a doctor's visit. Well, I tried a little bit of this and a little bit of that as suggested on this site and here's what worked for me. After about a week of bleeding 'roids, I tried the sitz bath, the ACV which helped to calm things externally, but there was still the issue of internal roids with bleeding so I decided to experiment with the aloe vera suggestion and take it a step further. In addition to drinking the Aloe Vera juice, I also filleted a small piece, sprinkled a little cayenne pepper (known to stop bleeding) on it and chilled it. Because the piece of Aloe is so small and also soft it was not very easy to insert bc of the sore tissue. I inserted as best I could and then used a homeopathic suppository to help insert it further. Yes, it was hella' hot, but hardly as painful as the roids. The next morning... Less blood and swelling; so, I tried another application (although this is best used before bedtime in case it's too hot for you, you can wash away some of the hotness because you're still at home! )... The following day... No blood and the swelling was gone. that was over a week ago and no problem yet.

Anyone suffering from hemorrhoids will find relief by drinking cayenne pepper in warm water. If you GOOGLE the healing benefits of cayenne, you will see this is brilliant at healing this issue. Try 1/3 a TEAspoon in a cup of warm water, add lemon for flavor if you like. Let your mouth feel the heat as it activates salivary glands to aid in digestion. Drink twice a day.

Corn Starch

Sigh - growing older had its perks for a little while [driving, moving out, and so on] until a couple years later, when all those things nobody tells you about suddenly decide to throw you a surprise party all at once. One of the attendees: hems. Now, I'm only 23, fairly active, fairly fit, quite healthy in terms of my diet, but one random day the magic H word sprouted up like an unwanted guest that never knew when to leave.

I have absolutely no idea what I did the first time - after struggling for two weeks trying to figure out what it was, expensive prescription suppositories that took a few days but did, kind of sort of a little bit, seem to make it better. Then it went away.

This time, again a random occurrence, [conveniently coinciding with another monthly visitor .. Yippee?] nothing seemed to work. Not the suppositories. Not ACV, in or externally [though it provided temporary pain relief when applied topically, the first time only]. Hmmm, wait, hadn't I dusted my bottom with a talc-free powder last time? That seemed to help a lot. Okay, tried that again... Not so much. And this time was SO much more painful than the first. I was hobbling around the house! But before giving up, I decided to spoon some cornstarch into some TP, pack it on and leave it there. Ta da... Magic remedy. Okay, granted it doesn't fix the problem. But after a day, it was MUCH smaller. After three days, almost gone. And then back and forth, back and forth, didn't really want to disappear entirely.... but regardless, cornstarch HAS been at least an immediate relief in terms of comfort and being able to go about my day without wincing at every step and muscle contraction, and by wicking away the extra moisture, seems to do a LOT to keep the inflammation down.

Definitely, definitely try this first, and add alllll the other wonderful remedies into your regime too. Needless to say, I am sufficiently EVEN MORE terrified of pregnancy/childbirth [since this x393840 is now inevitable], and uncomfortable with the effect on my love life. I mean... Come on, seriously Mother Nature?

PS, here in Canada, I couldn't find Rutin, so I didn't get a chance to try that out :( any advice on where to find it?

Corn Starch
Posted by Life's Surprises (Toronto, On, Ca) on 03/23/2012

As an update to my previous post: cornstarch DOES seem to be my 'cure' to the dreaded H-word. Any time I've felt it coming on, patting some cornstarch on seems to shrink it within a few hours, and keeping it up gets rid of it entirely in, at most, a few days. It recurred easily for a week or so, then went away and hasn't come back since. I've been patting some cornstarch on preventatively once every day or other day [to keep friction, heat, and moisture down, which seem to be aggravators], and it seems to be working like a charm. Huh.

I have tried every over the counter medication for hemorrhoids. Needless to say none work, some even made them worse. The best thing I have found is to gently spray your behind with a squirt hygiene bottle, dry the area gently but thoroughly, then apply corn starch all around the hemorrhoid. Sometimes I roll a few cotton balls in the corn starch and press right up against the hemorrhoid. I will wear this all day or night. It has never failed to bring me comfort. I hope it works for yo

I have protruding hems that flare up after using the restroom. I tried ACV and Witch Hazel but got no relieve. Did receive partial relieve by drinking cranberry juice with ginger added to it. However, have now found total relieve by taking fiber capsules (no not Metamucel). I found them at the Health/Nutrition store. The brand is Yerba Prima and each capsule is 625 mg. I take 2 3 times a day (along with each meal) and drink at least 8 oz. of some type of liquid. I've had this problem for at least 12 years and I'm overjoyed.

Hemorrhoids or piles is something genetic in our family. My paternal grandmother had it, my father, my uncles and aunts, all then of them, had it. In family reunions, hemorrhoids was an intimate, humorous conversation piece among them. Years later, eight of us brothers and sisters would have it too. Two of my brothers underwent painful operations to remove their hemorrhoids. I thought, soon I'd be going through the same ordeal too as I was already bleeding everytime I do my morning rituals. That's when I read about cayenne pepper. I took 3 capsules with meals everyday for three months in 2002. Miracle of miracles, my hemorrhoids disappeared...vanished without a trace. For five years now. I only stopped taking it when I was diagnosed for hyperthyroid. After getting into this website, I think I'll go back to taking cayenne pepper again especially because I am hypertensive and has a high cholesterol nowadays. Will get in touch again after a few weeks. Thanks for a very helpful and inspiring forum like this.

You should keep some Witch Hazel (near the rubbing alcohol in the store) on hand. It is an astringent and can reduce hemmorhoids, for awhile at least. I keep it in the fridge, the cold feels so good. For a large rhoid, soak a cotton ball or wad of gauze with it, place it on the rhoid and see if your cheeks won't hold it in place because then you can put on underwear and keep it in place for a long time.

At walmart ,near the feminine pads is a section with cream for yeast infections. Next to it is a cream called vagicaine. It numbs the area. Buy some witch hazel to shrink the hemorrhoid. Buy some yeast cream to put in the rectum just in case you have some imbalance there. Buy some store brand colace to get rid of any constipation. Buy a freezer gel pack to ice the area. Buy two so one can freeze while you use the other. If you are miserable, get in the tub, drink 16 ounces of water and lemon, orange or pineapple. The bath water will trick your brain into thinking the pain is coming from a larger area and shrink the signals. Blessings, Charity. Sit on a core ball.....

The LDN is the one to try first as it has a fairly good track record with IBS/Crohn's disease and although it is helpful for many other diseases, it has shown the most benefit with IBS. The melatonin would be the second choice as there is a chance it can exacerbate the diarrhea.

LDN is by prescription, but it is very mild and slow acting. I've used it in the past and it did not give me any problems.

I was thinking about my daughter in law when I went to bed, she is very ill right now with pneumonia and covid and I woke up and saw a large white cup and felt like it had slippery elm tea in it. I didn't know that was a tea but I do take the herb for digestion issues. It works on mucus, sore throat, burns and the pre and pro biotics and many other things if you google it. Good for crohns, IBS, hemorrhoids

She had other health issues prior. I asked a friend to pray and he put her on a prayer chain. I pray thankful prayers. (It is finished, praise the Lord) I can't speak into my families lives because a prophet is of no effect among his own. Once, when I had constipation, I developed a tiny outside hemorrhoid. MY ND said to drink more water & eat more roughage & it would go away in several days. I researched & read that hemorrhoids are caused by swelling, which is caused by injury. So, I took a single dose of MSM (known for reducing swelling), and the next day my hemorrhoid was gone.
