Kefir

I was nursing my daughter and still am since birth. She developed eczema around 1 month old. At first I had no idea where how this happened as my two other children had no problems. I took her to her pediatrician and she said that some babies just have it and it goes away as they get older. I asked if it could be because of something I was eating and her pediatrician (rated one of the best pediatrician in NYC) said "no, not at all."

Thank God for mothers intuition, I did some research of my own and found that my daughter was sensitive to the foods I was eating. I cut out foods one at a time to see what she was reacting to and found she was sensitive to milk, nuts and eggs? Something I constantly consumed in my diet. So I had to remove them from my diet but occasionally would incorporate them, except for the nuts.

After she turned 2 years, I attended a birthday party and ate cake that was made with nuts, which made her react not just on her hands as she would normally but now on her inner elbow area and it itched and was so red and uncomfortable for her, I had to wrap up her arms. I tried some ointments which helped but it wasn't until I began drinking Kefir and giving my daughter Kefir did it help give her relief. It literally worked within 12 hours. I'd give my daughter Kefir first thing in the morning and before she would go to sleep. (I would try to be consistent although sometimes she was resistant). It made her eczema disappear.

Eczema is a digestive issue and Kefir treats those issues. Western medicine along with most doctors are good at taking your money, and playing with human health in exchange for extra bucks. Kefir is the cure! Don't waste time, buy organic Kefir and save your children and yourself the trouble of spending your money on anything else!

Vitamin B3
Posted by Zark (Emerald City, The Land Of Oz) on 11/24/2014

To put it simply - Vitamin B3 clears eczema and can be taken by mouth or used as a cream.

Earlier in the year I had been using a homemade Vitamin B3 cream to clear my eczema. In the last two or three months I have switched to taking this internally instead. I found that if I take 500mg of B3 orally twice a day then this is sufficient to clear any eczema from my body. Taking it this way has been working very nicely for me. Much better to assist the body through nutrition than to whack the immune system into submission with an immune suppressant.

I'm finding taking it internally is a bit more reliable than using a cream. My body is still prone to various forms of inflammation (eg. rhinitis, proctitis, prostatitis) and I am gradually finding better ways of dealing with each problem. So with that in mind, I think it is sensible to treat this problem systemically, as there is a possibility that it will address some systemic issue.. and who knows, maybe it will knock out the root cause whatever that may be.

Nicotinamide has demonstrated anti-inflammatory actions that may be of benefit to patients with inflammatory skin conditions.[4] These conditions include acne vulgaris, and the compound can suppress antigen-induced, lymphocytic transformation and inhibit 3', 5'-cyclic-AMP phosphodiesterase. Nicotinamide has demonstrated the ability to block the inflammatory actions of iodides known to precipitate or exacerbate inflammatory acne.

Title: C/EBPe mediates nicotinamide-enhanced clearance of Staphylococcus aureus in mice
Source: http://www.jci.org/articles/view/62070?key=a39ce7efc2f764ede04
The myeloid-specific transcription factor, CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein e (C/EBPe) is a critical mediator of myelopoiesis. Mutation of this gene is responsible for neutrophil-specific granule deficiency in humans, a condition that confers susceptibility to Staphylococcus aureus infection. We found that C/EBPe-deficient mice are severely affected by infection with S. aureus, and C/EBPe deficiency in neutrophils contributes to the infectious phenotype. Conversely, exposure to the epigenetic modulator nicotinamide (vitamin B3) increased expression of C/EBPe in WT myeloid cells. Further, nicotinamide increased the activity of C/EBPe and select downstream antimicrobial targets, particularly in neutrophils. In a systemic murine infection model as well as in murine and human peripheral blood, nicotinamide enhanced killing of S. aureus by up to 1,000 fold but had no effect when administered to either C/EBPe-deficient mice or mice depleted of neutrophils. Nicotinamide was efficacious in both prophylactic and therapeutic settings. Our findings suggest that C/EBPe is an important target to boost killing of bacteria by the innate immune system.

Coconut Oil and Turmeric

I love coconut oil!! I swallow a spoonful on an empty stomach in the morning and at night to keep my body healthy and to stave off infections. I have a little remedy I like to do for dry, flaky skin with organic ground turmeric powder and organic virgin coconut oil. Around my mouth was constantly itchy, irritated, flakey, and cracked (in the corners of my mouth) and I made this paste out of the coconut oil and turmeric powder and put it on the effected areas. It cleared up super fast... within a weeks time! I would use this paste again on any annoying, dry and flakey spots!

Ozonated Olive Oil

I'm a natural health practitioner and have also referenced this site for testimonials from others cause I do what works - not studies and theories! I do phone consults anywhere if anyone needs guidance and want to chime in to give back... those challenged with eczema may want to try ozonated Olive Oil!! I had a stubborn dollar size patch behind my thigh for well over 7 or 8 years and nothing touched it and I tried it all and even made my own concoctions, used infrared saunas, lasers, etc. and the ozonated olive oil did the trick within days!!

Also highly recommend this ACV and BS cause I believe one of it's greatest benefits is detoxing from heavy metals and just look up on the sky and see what trails the planes are leaving and that we are breathing... much higher levels of heavy metals are being found in our soil and water tables and they don't come out with normal food intake without reaction of binding to eliminate. Hope this helps as many people as possible!! Thank you EarthClinic!!

Apple Cider Vinegar, Colloidal Silver
Posted by Jaimie (Cove, Ar) on 05/16/2014

Lawrence, I would say the CS because it calmed the itch but dont know for sure because I was (and still am) taking the ACV before I tried the CS. The combination did wonders for me though.

Jaime, do you have any idea if it's the 2 teaspoons of ACV taken internally or the application of colloidal silver to the skin that is mainly responsible for minimizing your eczema or are both necessary? Thanks.

I havent had an eczema outbreak like I have now in many years and I have tried everything under the sun to get rid of it. I was putting ACV on it every couple hours. It would calm it down for an hour or so and then I was having to reapply. I started taking a teaspoon 2 times a day. Once in the morning and once at night and putting colloidal silver directly on it instead of the ACV. It has almost disappeared. Feels so good to finally get a decent nights sleep.

Apple Cider Vinegar, Bentonite Clay, Coconut Oil

I developed seborrheic eczema for 2 years. It started back in 2010 July as a very small on my left cheek and soon developed to a huge red patch. I quickly went to the pharmacy to find out what it was and they said it was fungal since it was inflamed and oozed with yellow liquid. I was scared so I listened to the lady when she recommended me to use clotrimazole (fungal cream). It was going great, the patch was gone within 3 days. However it kept coming back and worse as before. I then went to see a dermatologist and he said it is definitely eczema. He prescribed me the usual 1% hydrocortisone. I used this very thinly for a few weeks and it did the temporary trick, however it keeps coming back and the condition worsened. At this point, I had no more faith in creams. I was depressed everyday looking at myself in the mirror, my skin has been destroyed with this huge patch of red, dry and flaky skin. End of 2010, I went to America for holiday. My aunt is a pharmacist and she took me to a skin specialist. The doctor asked me to wash my face with Head and shoulder shampoo and go on a course of cortisone pills for 7 days. This method did the trick for controlling the eczema for only 3 weeks. After that, it came back in vengeance. Start of 2011, I gave up in finding a doctor or taking pills and using these chemical creams. I started experimenting with natural products. For 1 and a half years I changed my diet by eating super clean (Though my diet was very healthy already before this eczema developed, maybe it was due to stress as I was still studying in university).

Second step is, I started washing my face with apple cider + water and apply coconut oil on the eczema patch. I tried this a few weeks, it did not help.

I then tried juicing raw potato, drink it and also put it on my patch, this also did not work.

Here are a list of things that I also tried (ingesting and/or applying topically) but failed:
- Aloe vera + slippery elm + probiotics
- green barley grass+ green juice + spirulina
- coconut oil (ingest and topically)
- Apple cider vinegar (ingest and topically)
- Hemp, fish, flax seed oil
- Zinc, magnesium, Vit B complex, Vit A.
- Tumeric (make it into paste as face mask and also ingest)
- There are still many other things that I've experimented but with no desired outcome.

Here comes the answers to my prayers. The ONLY things that made my eczema gone was APPLE CIDER VINEGAR + COCONUT + NATURAL BENTONITE CLAY.
I would mix them all into a paste just enough to put all over my face. I leave this on OVERNIGHT and EVERY NIGHT for 4 weeks. The first few days, my face would sting after using the mask over night. it made my skin red (my eczema looked especially angry with drier patch), however this pass in an hr and your skin goes back normal. The most amazing thing is I saw results just after 1 and a half weeks of using these ingredients religiously every night to sleep. I just kept doing it and in the 4th week the eczema DISAPPEARED. You guys have no idea how HAPPPYYYYYYY I was! To maintain this (because I was so traumatize that the eczema might reappear again) I would apply this paste every 2nd night for the next 6 months. After that, I never applied them again. It's nearly 1.5 years ever since I had eczema and it never came back (:

You can buy ANY natural bentonite clay online (I bought mine on ebay) and mix it into a paste with a few drops of apple cider vinegar + coconut oil just so your face won't be too dry. This worked amazingly with quick and fast results! I hope this works for everyone but I know we're all different. Anyone who are struggling with eczema, please please pleaseee give this a try and see how you go! At least give it ONE whole month EVERY NIGHT to see results. Do not worry if the first week makes your skin worse, 2nd week should be ok!

Good luck everybody!

Hello,

Just a note to say that I've been suffering from eczema (on the forehead) for many years. I've tried just about everything, always with some success, but never quite curing it. It seldom flairs up , but still, it does sometimes. Anyway, this is the one thing I can say has had a REAL impact on my condition : beer yeast. I eat it on toast in the morning, and on salads and in soups. When I eat some everyday, my condition gets better, systematically. It is not a cure, but it alleviates every single symptom. It makes my life better.

Thought I would share this.

A trick that worked wonders for me for eczema was cheap, at home and painless. I took 1/4 tsp of tumeric powder mixed with a little warm water. And drank it followed by a large tumbler of water and it worked wonders overnight. Better than ACV and any other medication. I did ensure that I took it a good few hours after my last meal. At the same time: gluten free, healthy diet, cut out sugar and really reduce dairy products. And pray.

Apple Cider Vinegar, Coconut Oil, Epsom Salt Baths
Posted by Dave (Fountain Inn, Sc) on 02/12/2014

Hello Sabrina,

Here's a guess for you based on just a few hints you gave... eczema since birth... and it is over 80 percent of your body...

That's not an external problem. That's internally produced. Liver...endocrine....lymph system. Might even be genetic, but even if genetic that does not mean you can't compensate. If not enough of some amino acid for instance, you can compensate with oral consumption of amino acids.

That the direction I'd go if faced with this. A good internist ... no a great internist .... needs to nail down the cause. He/she may not have the solution but diagnosis is essential or all is guess work. And you can try to deal with the problem by process of elimination but such a shotgun approach will likely lead to frustration in determining the cause.

A few questions: Do you have any relatives with anything like this? (genetic)

Did your mother have this condition at any time? (pathogenic natal carry forward)

What OTHER symptoms do you suffer with? (might give a hint to the underlying cause)

You are dealing with symptoms in taking various baths etc...that's fine...I would be too, but you've got to get to the cause.

Here's a guess....an issue on the cellular level; the cellular pores not allowing essential oils et al to come in and not allowing toxic debris from leaving. Soooooo....want a broad based shotgun approach? Order AEP, membrane integrity factor (amino ethyl phosphoric acid).... "Calcium AEP".... take five a day....for two weeks.

Apple Cider Vinegar, Coconut Oil, Epsom Salt Baths

I have been trying to clear up my eczema for a couple months now using Apple cider vinegar with the Mother both topically on my affected areas and internally (1/2 & 1/2 with water twice daily) for detoxing. It makes my skin very dry, though the redness goes away and sometimes the itching will be for awhile, too.

It is very painful topically, so I can really only work myself up to do it two times a day. It burns, stings, itches and although it clears my skin and body, it is very hard to figure out if my body is getting tolerant, or if I have to go back to adding baking soda to the drink to help with the acidity...

I also take baths in epsom salt, oatmeal or take a shower using just a washcloth to get off any dead skin. I've Boraxo (not Borax) so I haven't done the scalp treatment yet, as I have seen here that Boraxo is much stronger, and sometimes causes more issues with people.

When using epsom salts, I find that my skin is softer as a whole, but gets quite dry upon leaving the bath. Flaking skin is more visible. When taking an oatmeal bath, I find that I get more hydrated, but it doesn't last and soon I am all itchy again. When I take a shower with no soaps involved and just wipe myself down with a washcloth (of course), I am also very dry and agitated upon leaving the shower. I wish I could find something that could give my skin the right moisture..

I also have been using coconut oil (natural, cold pressed) the past few days. Before recently, I've tried using Olive Oil, coconut oil that wasn't cold pressed, and sometimes the occasional lotion.

When using the oils, I feel as if they are too thin, or not fully hydrating my skin- so I apply more when needed. Unfortunately, this makes me very hot and itchy, why I do not know. I would like to know if there is a way to calm the itching, hopefully so I'll have better results with all this effort. My skin will clear up to a certain point, then it stays like that (about half-healed I would assume, as most redness is gone, there's less flaking and a lot more clear patches of skin breaking through the rash) and doesn't get any better- it only seems to get worse because the itch sets in and I have yet to find anything that could help with that on the site.

I have eczema over about 80-90% of my person, it is very hard to figure out what works and what does not, as I'm trying to stick through these remedies to be sure they either do not, or do work- but gradually. I have tried tons of things over the counter as well, such as lotions soaps (even claiming to be for those effected by eczema) but to no avail. Nothing seems to keep the itching at bay- or lessen it enough that I can sleep without scratching through the night, or stop covering myself up with sweatshirts and agitating fabrics in an effort to keep myself from scratching. Sometimes, it helps; other times not so much because I find that the seams or the certain fabric can rub my skin just so... Anyways, I am having problems with more than one remedy here, and hope to know what the issue may be soon. Please, please get back to me. I was born with eczema, I've had problems with it for a couple years in a row now- the same breakout never really going away but with the help of steroids and I do not like using them or taking them.

I really hope someone will know what it is I'm doing wrong...

But to use this just get 375g petroleum jelly, it's the same as Vaseline, get honey put both into a microwave bowl it doesn't matter how much you use of both, and 3 teaspoons or water. Then put into microwave at least for one minute to make sure the Vaseline or petroleum jelly has melted and mix it threw and apply to eczema:) I hope it works for you guys! It has for me:)

Iodine

Dear HM, thank you for sharing this remedy. I started it this afternoon as soon as I read your post! I have tried many home remedies for my dermatitis over the years and nothing has helped. The first application of lugol's definitely burned as you said it would, but not as much as some of the other remedies I tried. I would like to also mention that people should not go out in public just after applying iodine to fair skin on the face. LOL. It does stain for a few hours!

Editor's Choice

I've thrown everything at my eczema (flax seed and flax oil, ACV pills and ACV liquid, baking soda, Vaseline, frankincense, olive oil). I've probably left something off like banana, or onions which did not work. There are probably others, but none worked like IODINE!!! I have atopic dermatitis eczema. Every time I scratch, it spreads.... really unbearable. Also, for those who say you can't catch it they are wrong. I used (by accident) an old razor of someone who had it, and the two spots where the razor hit became inflamed, itchy and spread. Later (not knowing what I had) I scratched it and then my head where it is now. From razor to foot to head all by a scratch.

But I digress... I cleared up the one on my foot using everything including iodine, but did not connect iodine as the main thing because I only did it once and it burned so bad I didn't do it again. But when it spread to my head, neck, and ear I've had more time to experiment. I've had the head eczema for about a 1.5 month, and got relief as soon as I started using iodine. By the 2nd day it is gone. Nothing hurts, my skin is still tough and thick but even that is better and fading.

Mix 1/3 Lugol's iodine with about 2/3 water, using a Q-tip or toilet paper dapped it on affected area. Be careful it stings like a mother (that is why it is mixed with water). I like it to sting a little, then I know it is working. If it stings too much add more water. The first thing that happens is, it stops the itching, second thing is, it dries it up. I used Vaseline to keep it moist and it helps with pain. Also, I did drink a little.... Dipped a q-tip in the lugols solution and then dipped the q-tip in a small amount of water (oz or so) and drank. I drank less than a drop each day of Lugols.

For those who always ask ... it was just plain lugols iodine the only other thing on the bottle is Aqueous Solution.

May God Bless you and end your suffering.

I have eczema ever since I can remember. I always have it on my eye lids and sometimes on my elbow, arms, chest. Steroid creams worked but I believe this past Fall the huge outbreak was due to the accumulation of those creams. My eyelids were all swollen, red, and my neck was covered with red, painful and itchy patches. They even spread to my face and chest. It was miserable. I tried many methods, apple cider vinegar, coconut oil, honey, eventually, what worked for me was hemp seed oil! I took one table spoon in the morning, one at night, and rubbed the oil on my skin as well. The relief came quite quickly, in a couple of days and I was clear of eczema in a month!

Hello, I have three boys (6, 5, and 4 )and all of them suffer from eczema. The oldest one has already outgrown it, the middle one does much better, and the little one is still not good. This is my second post here, the first one you can probably find back a few years ago when I found an aurvedic cream Turmeric from India, that cured my oldest son like a miracle when he was about 2 years old. You can the cream in any Indian store or I buy it online now... We still use this cream a lot for any wounds, cuts... Surprisinly, it didn't help my second and third boys... Long story short, I have been trying everything under the moon to get relieve for the kids. Those parents whose children suffer from eczema, know how painful it is to see your children suffer.... This summer I've been taking boys to the city swimming pool and I noticed that the skin of my youngest boys is so silky and healthy , like a newborn baby. I shared my thoughts with my husband, saying that chlorine cured Michael's skin and my husband only laughed at me. We spent so much money buying an expensive water filter for the whole house(reverse osmosis)... Knowing how bad chlorine is.... I had nothing to say to him.... But I felt that chlorine helped and when we stopped going for the classes, in a few weeks skin got worse... Then we had a consultation with a dermatologyst in Mayo clinic Gainsville. (it is another story and I 'll skip it) , but the doctor noticed that my son's skin is dry... " I'll tell you what to do, You need to wash him in a house bleach 1/4 to 1/2 cup to a tub of water twice-three times a week" I was shocked, so it was not only my feelings! I came home and did search on household bleach and eczema. there is science behind it! you may look thru this article, or you may search many more : http://www.webmd.com/skin-problems-and-treatments/eczema/news/20090427/bleach-baths-may-help-kids-with-ezcema

Reading these articles you'll see the how chlorine helps to cure the skin. And I really want to hear positive results from you!

Apple Fast

I have decided to do the 3-day apple fast after living with a severe eczema flare all over my body for the past 7 months.

I was diagnosed with discoid eczema and was prescribed a steroid cream which does help with the itch; however it has been very damaging to my skin so I have stopped using it.

About a month ago I decided to give up dairy products and see if that makes a difference. My skin improved significantly although it did not clear completely. So my plan is to do the 3 day apple cleanse and then become completely gluten and dairy-free along with taking a probiotic and fish oil supplements. I also apply plenty of moisturiser – ITMve found Cetaphil to be the most effective. Virgin coconut oil and QV lotion are also great hydrators.

I'm now into day 2 of my apple detox and I'm feeling pretty hungry! I only have to look in the mirror though to remind myself why I am doing this. I'm already seeing some improvement in my eczema and I'm not as itchy. Fingers crossed it continues to improve! I will update again at the end of my apply detox!

Please please please try this for 2 weeks - say a capsule every meal ie 3 or 4 capsules a day and in 2 weeks it will be gone. She explained we need to moisturise from the inside out, Cod liver oil has Vit D and I also take Evening Primrose Oil which has Omega 6 - which fish oil doesn't have - Fish oil is not enough - just Google cod liver oil and eczema to see the results - How did I go so long when it was so simple!
