Traditional Chinese Medicine

Hi Sara, You are so welcome, I love sharing what I know if it can help others. As for Chinese herbs for weight loss, well, that's what makes Traditional Chinese medicine so special. Each individual is just that- individual. This is why going to a Chinese herbalist or acupuncturist would be able to find your reason for the extra weight. Of course, if you go into a Chinese medicine store such as the type in Chinatowns you will find many weight loss teas at your disposal. You can look into those but read the labels carefully because some have herbs just to clean you out or act as a diuretic.
The Chinese herbs for weight loss work in different ways. The first type are for "transforming phlegm" which in this case, the one which is very effective is Citrus aurentium. They help burn the brown fatty tissue which is the hardest to burn off.
The second type is to increase qi and yang energy which in this case would be astragalus, ginseng, ginger, cinnamon, epimideum and eucommia bark. All of these increase the body's energy and speed up the metabolism.
And third, the detoxifying herbs which are bitter herbs. They reduce inflammatory, acidic conditions. Ganoderma is one of these herbs as well as coptis, Chinese rhubarb and scute. An indication for these would be people who crave oily, spicy and sweet foods.
One final note is there is also the emotional side of eating which can be addressed with bupleurem root, zizyphus and biota seeds and longan fruit.
So as you can see, there are different avenues to explore. You could call Dragon Herbs and have a free phone consultation and hear their recommendations. There is no obligation to buy anything and if the herbs don't work for you they'll refund or exchange.
Anyway, I hope this information was of value to you. You can of course, always do some exploring on the internet to find formulas based in this info I just gave you. Best to you, Lisa

Thank you Lisa for another beautiful recipe from you. I am just wondering if you know any Chinese Herbal remedy for weight loss. I can not get rid of my belly fat. I know in Chinese medicine one herb does not do the job; there should be a combination of a couple of herbs.

To Andy re: What vegtable oils to avoid? Stay away from those that say hydrogenated oil. They are bad for everyone. Best are flax oil, olive oil, extra virgin coconut oil, sesame If extra virgin and cold pressed even better. Google them when in doubt. I did. It's how I started with coconut oil extra virgin. Very healthy for everyone. Contrary to myths, you lose weight consuming it cause immediately it turns into energy. Does not spike your insulin, and kills cravings. Also it suppresses your appetite so you eat less. I love it. I also traded cow milk for almond milk. Use raw honey instead of regular sugar. Coconut oil instead of butter or honey and I feel great. They give me energy all day long and I feel great. Thank you JESUS!

One tablespoon of virgin cocout oil (VCO) at a time with a food or drink product as described should not be a problem for anyone, unless you have pre-existing bowel issues. Starting with less VCO would only be helpful in those situations, or if you are taking it solo (not what I described). You need at least a tablespoon of VCO at a time before you will see health benefits.

Hi everyone! I don't believe I am supposed to post a brand name here so I will leave that up to the powers that be. I don't like promoting anyones brands at the best of times. But usually that's cause I am never convinced that anything actually does the trick. I have found something that works for me, and has been working for many friends and family members. A fiber supplement made here in Canada. I bought mine at Walmart and wasn't expecting much. Have tried all the diet aids out there. Most of them made me feel spinny or grumpy. Like a form of speed. This product though is JUST fiber. It takes a bit of getting used to, and I had to start taking a digestive enzyme to help my tummy with getting used to this much fiber. The fiber turns to gel when you drink a lot of water. Something that you must do with this stuff. What's so cool about it is it makes my tummy feel full. I started out taking 2 capsules 1 hour before each of my two meals a day. I noticed I am not hungry in between meals. I feel full before I even attempt to eat so I naturally am eating way less. And I am not craving bad stuff or obsessing about food like I was before. I am certainly pooing a lot more, Sorry if that's too much info. I am just thrilled that something is working for me. I eat right and work out as much as I can with a knee injury. These last 30 pounds were not coming off, Being close to 50 yrs old prob isn't helping. I hope this info helps some of you as it is helping me. And I apologize for posting the product name. If its not allowed, maybe there is some other way to make the information available to people who could benefit from this amazing find. I have lost 5 pounds in 2 weeks, and haven't changed anything else. Still eating healthy food as I always am. I was getting so frustrated at not being able to use my treadmill due to a lingering knee injury. Fibroids and a sluggish thyroid make it almost impossible for me to lose weight. Iodine gave my thyroid a little help, but it was this fiber that got the pounds moving. Good luck everyone. It's an amazing discovery. Hope it helps you all too. Sammy

Lecithin
Posted by Citygirl27 (Richardson, Tx, Usa) on 09/22/2012
The fact is, no matter what your metabolic type, weight, or health condition, lecithin is a fat emulsifier. This means it makes fat water-soluble and ready to be flushed out of the body. The reason you see it in foods is because it allows oil to be mixed with water based ingredients without separating or clumping. Lecithin does not contain the phytoestrogens everyone panics about (if present they are trace and insignificant), but rather has phosphatidylcholine. In plain speak, that is choline like that which is in eggs, but instead in the form of a phosphatide from a plant. It works as a liver cleanser. If you are gaining weight, it means that receptors elsewhere in your body from what your liver is releasing are weak and are responsible, not the lecithin. Ted speaks of soy lecithin granules for weight loss in several pages on EC.

When looking at research, I think it's important to keep in mind what sugar they are talking about too. I think people can be misled between refined sugar, simple sugar found in fruits and some higher starch vegetables, and the sugar taken from everyday foods that the body breaks down into glucose. Also, looking back at research, they would do studies on some foods, but wouldn't differentiate between cooked, raw, organic etc. which leads public opinions to fluctuate.
After having many family members falling ill to many diseases, like cancer and severe diabetes, I've found its really important to look at the details in your own natural health journey.
When you eat raw fruits, (let's say an apple) although it is a simple carb, it has enzymes in the fruit to help digestion, plus vitamins and fiber to slow the sugar spike to the bloodstream. My family members have been able to reduce or get off their medication by eating fruits in their natural state. I have nothing against low carb diets if it really works for people, but the more extreme diets and fads I see go through the news and even in health minded groups, the more I believe a simple whole foods diet focusing on variety and moderation is truly the way to go.
P.S. I completely adore this site, and how there's an exchange of information and opinion without it getting crazy!

Avoid Butter and Restaurants
Posted by Citygirl27 (Richardson, Tx, Usa) on 07/30/2012
Butter in itself isn't bad, in fact it is much healthier and will have much less (if any) effect on your weight than the same amount of polyunsaturated oils or hydrogenated oils. The Indian restuarant was probably using clarified butter (ghee) which does not have milk solids in it. Not as bad, but coconut oil in Indian and other cooking is way better and should not be avoided.
As for restaurants, its all about choices. You dont have to "avoid restaurants" altogether. the main thing is to consider the portion size, sugar content, and beware of added flavorings like MSG.

Because exercising improves the supply of new, oxigen rich blood all through your own entire body, moreover, you may often get better a lot more speedily from any sort of personal injury. All-in-all, exercising is really helpful you simply seriously ought to add it for your diet program.
Proceed rising your own weekly physical exercise. You may have started with 1 day of going for walks. And possibly you actually moved for 25 minutes or so. At this moment you may put in a subsequent day of lose weight in a week. You may change from walking the neighboorhood to walks in the nearby mall.
Make use of the sections from the diet regime that don't perform for you personally as commitment to locate points which do get the job done. Raise your physical exercise until finally you're taking walks (or performing other sorts of type of physical exercise) at the least 3 or 4 times every week.

This is a reply to Kelly. The first time I tried a fast, I also got dangerously sick and weak. My husband nearly called an ambulance, but I told him to just bring me some carbs instead--stuff like pasta. And after eating a little, I began to feel better. Then, a friend let me read his copy of the book The Master Cleanse, by Stanley Burroughs. Have you actually read this book? The key thing which I needed to do, to avoid sickness, was to keep bowels moving somehow. This might be why you got so sick. The book says that fasting without having bowel movements, is like sweeping the dirt around and around on your floor, without picking it up in a dustpan. If you don't move all those toxins out, and they are letting loose because you are on a fast, then you will feel extremely sick and weak and head-achy. I have fasted many times since then, and the thing which keeps me from getting sick, is keeping bowels moving from day one. Now, the book says to drink a precise mixture of water and salt, and chug it down every day--and it really works (the salt water comes out the other end in about an hour)! --if you get the balance just right for your body. But it's awful to drink all that salt water! I found that a good colon cleanse with psyllium, bentonite clay, and fruit pectin works great.

Hi Citigirl, If soy is not causing the weight gain, it must be starches in all its forms, because overweight people are sensitive to starches & are fast oxidisers & must stick to protein & veggies. Look up Metabolic Typing it could help you a lot, because then you will know in which direction to go. You will have to send a sample of your hair to be analised.

You have a valid point for everyone. Watch out for the GMO soy. I use organic soy products that are labelled as non GMO. I wish I had a "few" extra pounds, it is a lot more than that and does not respond to calorie reduction and exercise. Would like to hear from anyone who has experienced weight loss, unintentional or not, with lecithin of any variety.

Hello Citygirl27 from Richardson, Tx, Usa, Be VERY careful with soy consumption especially in this day and age where soy is found as non-GMO, and is extremely harmful to one's health.
Only if you find non-GMO, fermented soy you can consume safely once weekly. Otherwise it messes with your hormones and causes weight gain.
Please research / google before you begin the lecithin regime. Better to have a few extra pounds than consume a nasty substance.

I am very familiar with soy and all of its benefits and implications. I have had weight issues way before I ever ate anything soy (my whole life since birth/vaccination), and have not gained any since beginning my soy regime -in fact I have lost a few, so it is nothing to do with soy. Let's keep this on the topic of Lecithin.

Hi Citigirl27, You probably have extra weight because of your soy consumption because soy products contain a lot of phytoestrogen & leads to estrogen dominance & leads to weight gain. Only way to take soy is in its fermented form then its chemical commposition is changed & you only have a small portion/meal. Look up estrogen dominance on the net & you will have a better understanding what you are dealing with.

I decided to the cinnamon and honey tea to my daily routine a week ago and I am already seeing effects!
My process: I put 1 tsp organic ceylon cinnamon into 8 oz of boiling water and let it seep for 30 minutes. Then I add 2 tsp organic raw honey. I drink half of the tea before bed and the other half in the morning 30 minutes before breakfast.
Results/effects so far: I have already been on a weight loss journey and adding the tea gave me an extra edge. In one week my measurements shifted down. I have read that this tea will make you lose inches before lbs.
I will definitely continue to use this on a daily basis, I'm sure I will continue to see other benefits!

Dosing questions: A good place to start is 1 TBSP of coconut oil at a time. I put mine in pomegranate green tea, but you can add it to hot chocolate or your favorite hot drink to melt it. Or you can add 1 TBSP coconut oil to a blended health smoothie/protein style drink that you are creative with. You can also cook with 1 TBSP of it if drinking it feels weird. For the ACV, I use 1 TBSP in 16 oz of water. Personally, I do that with 1 teaspoon of baking soda before bed. Start with a bit less if that is too strong at first. I am doing that once a day at the moment PM, and the coconut oil mid afternoon to control appetite.

I saw big bags of cinnamon sticks at the Indian mkt today but didnt get one bc I have lots of cinnamon (canela) at home. That shop sources pretty much everything from India, or sometimes England like with my Amla hair oil. Spent way too much there this week though, sigh. Too many good things. Thx.

Lately I have been getting good results w/ DMG (Dimethyglycine) as it boost energy as well as immune system. Also Magnesium Malate and/or Calcium Pyruvate are good natural energy boosters which would encourage weight loss. Any source of caffeine if not taken in large amounts illicits a thermogenic effect. Some Ginger/Cayenne caps would also be a winner.

Just some friendly advice but I think the max is 1 tablespoon 3x's per day, someone please help me if I'm wrong! I have used this to slim down in the past so I can at least say that it is a helpful dose and it is possible that too much can be hard on the stomach. If you aren't already, take 30 minutes before each meal for best results with slimming.
Seasalt in water is great for retaining some water and providing minerals if you are having to drink so much. There is much info online about this.
Flaxseed and psyllium husks are also good for flushing things out of the system, but without needing to overconsume water to do it. Milk Thistle and Dandelion are helpful too.
Matcha Green Tea is excellent for metabolism and stress, plus filled with antioxidants (it's the ideal form of green tea for such). These are all things I've used and loved at different times... And thought they might help as well.
Another way to slim down is to avoid grains, rice, wheat, etc and eat these more sparingly when needed. Don't go overboard or do anything unhealthy of course! Either that or check your blood and metabolic type (lots of 'free' tests for this online) and see what it advises. (This is more to be taken for the long term as only time will tell, and the advice offered isn't usually weight, but health oriented... Tho they can go hand in hand). In other words, don't avoid grains if this is just what your type needs... And above all, always listen to your body.

Cinnamon
Posted by Xiang (Cleveland, Ohio) on 04/26/2012

Effects: According to a study published by "The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, " cinnamon has been linked to weight loss because the spice stimulates, or increases, the metabolism of glucose. Glucose, or blood sugar, is a main source of energy and affects how hungry or energetic you feel.
Benefits: A benefit of cinnamon is its ability to delay food from progressing through the digestive system. Food is delayed in the stomach and, as a result, leaves you feeling full for a longer period of time. This results in a reduction of hunger and causes you to eat less. In addition to satiation, the active compound in cinnamon is methyl hydroxy chalcone polymer (MHCP) and works to increase glucose metabolism, according to the USDA. Your blood sugar level determines whether you burn fat or store it. Increasing your glucose metabolism through the use of cinnamon tablets burns excess glucose, which is stored as fat in your body. In short, feeling less hungry and burning excess glucose more effectively equates to eating less and losing weight.
Chia Seeds

How do Chia Seeds keep you feeling full?
When the Chia Seed is exposed to water or other liquids it begins to hydrate. This means that the fibers on the outside of the seed (almost too small to see with the naked eye) begin to trap moisture and form it into a gel. Each seed forms its own big bead of gel, that is not easily removed. When you eat this seed/gel combination, your body treats it like a big piece of food... not the 0 calorie water that it really is! The seeds themselves are tiny and healthy, but it's their ability to absorb 9 TIMES their own weight in water that keeps you feeling full. This means you can use even 1 tsp of seeds to get rid of hunger whenever you want.
This also makes it a great value for you when 1 dry tablespoon of chia makes 9 tablespoons of hunger-fighting chia gel. It's as easy as scoop, pour and wait 10 minutes for the gel to form on its own. Water isn't the only answer, either. You can use your favorite juice drinks too, and chia will never cover up or dilute the flavor you love.

Lemon Juice in Warm Water
Posted by Tapoutking (Chicago, Illinois, US) on 03/04/2012
About a year ago I went on a citrus Fast (Lemons/Limes) for approximately 10 - 12 days. I would use half a lemon and a whole lime since they were small in a 8oz water bottle about 4-5x a day. I didn't think I could last 2-3 days w/o eating a meal. Everything seemed to be going fine, I was feeling good, I wasn't tired or hungry and I saw some shrinkage in my belly area. On the last day of my fast I went to the bathroom and noticed that my urine color had changed from clear to almost brown. I did panic because I have never seen my urine become that dark. I drink lots of water on a daily basis (more than a gallon I know) but not exactly sure how much though.
Can anyone explain to me what they THINK or KNOW what happened? I need to know if that was a good thing or a bad thing that happened.

I've found green tea to be extremely beneficial in helping me to lose 40 pounds in about 7 months. Just note that the tea was used in a holistic approach of eating clean, exercise, and a moderate calorie deficit.
I read about about the myriad of benefits online and experienced the weight loss benefits personally. I started brewing my own green iced tea and religiously drank a quart every two days. I noticed that besides giving me a slight energy boost, the main thing it did was to help inhibit hunger. But it's the catechins in the tea that is supposed to help burn off calories. A friend (who I turned on to it) told me that after a month his weight loss had been accelerated and the only change was that he started drinking the tea. I firmly believe every weight loss program should incorporate green tea!

I just thought I'd check back and see if there were any responses to my "nay" on the master cleanse. There are a couple of people who are confused, and I forget, not everyone is medical minded, and I should have stated my PH was NOT my urine PH. A normal urine Ph CAN be anywhere from 4.8 to 8. That is correct. However, the Ph I was referring to was my ABG results. An ABG is an arterial blood gas. Blood is drawn directly from your artery. 7.11 is dangerously low for a Ph and I scared alot of people that night, not only at the hospital but my family members :-(. Frequently, a person with a Ph of less then 7. 20 (arterial) is a strong candidate for a ventilator (a machine that breathes for you)... So 7.11 REALLY did freak some people out, including myself. Also, I DID use ALL organic lemons, maple syrup, distilled water etc. This diet is just NOT for everyone. Please be careful!

too acidic and that is not the issue.
Perhaps there was issues with the source of your water or lemons. I am wondering if you used organic lemons or the cheap kind or had any household chemicals laying around. Like the lemon might have fallen on the floor, table, etc, etc. Might of been a chemical reaction with something else inside your body.

I have taken 3 Tablespoons of coconut oil for almost a month now, and I have gained no weight. As a matter of fact between the coconut oil and the Apple Cider Vinegar I have lost 30 lbs.

I tried to stick to this for a week, a couple of times, coming off a fast. The first day or two was great. After that, it was just impossible for me to stick to. I got hungry. I think you need more protein than this to lose weight, although it might be good for a temporary cleansing diet. What worked for me was a food journal. I noticed that beef and chocolate did not make me gain weight--surprise, surprise! But soy, cabbage (even cooked), peaches and broccoli would cause me to gain 2 lbs overnight. This points to a thyroid problem, even though my tests results are normal. OK by me--I don't take prescriptions anyway.
