Juicing

Found an incredible juicing recipe in a book called The Raw Food Detox Diet by Natalia Rose . It's called green lemonade and yes, it really does taste like lemonade! I've been drinking at least one glass of this a day for 7 days and it has curbed my appetite like no tomorrow. I do a lot of exercise every day am usually starving afterwards, but not so if I drink this beforehand. It's amazing. I have made it for 3 friends and everyone loves it. The first thing my husband noticed (on me) was glowing, soft skin. First thing I noticed beside the appetite suppressant was increased energy.

Here's the recipe from the book:

1 head romaine lettuce or celery
5 to 6 stalks kale
1 to 2 apples
1 whole organic lemon (don't peel it)
1 to 2 inches fresh ginger (optional)

Juice all ingredients. For best results, drink on an empty stomach. Not a good idea to drink with meals according to the author. You can use any greens in place of romaine and kale. Important thing is to have dark leafy greens.

Highly recommend this book, by the way. Simply prepared "quick-exit" foods. Great philosophy.

Dietary Changes, Exercise, Supplements

This diet is not exactly like atkins, but it does seem like a good one. Veronica, Just a note to let you know that all fruits contain fructose, a high concentration of a form of sugar. Sugar, no matter what form is bad. Potatoes become sugar once they are ingested. The body should not live on this type of chemical as it causes diseases like diabetes, hypoglycemia, hypertension, etc. Anyway, good job Rick. I think I could do this...but not too crazy about giving up my coffee and diet soda...eek. sorry. :(

Rhodiola

I've been taking Rhodiola for 5 weeks and have increased energy and have lost about 15 pounds that I have been struggling with for the last 5 years. I have had breast cysts that have disappeared and my memory has definitely improved. 6 weeks ago I attempted to climb the 7 flights of stairs to my condo when the elevator was out. I had to stop and rest at each floor. Today I take the stairs instead of the elevator without stopping at all.

When I started taking Rhodiola, my daughter had told me about it but I didn't know much about the herb only that it would give me an energy boost that I really needed. The only negative factor that I have experienced is insomnia, so now I make sure that I don't take the herb after about 3pm. I take 2 - 250 mg per day. One in the morning as soon as I get up with 10 oz of warm distilled water and the juice of 1/2 freshly squeezed lemon, and one around 3pm at my work breaktime with lots of water.

Food combining for improved digestion and slow weight loss...

I have had problems with overeating all my life. Since my latest juice fasting, I was determined to find a way to stay slim and not overeat any more. I want to share it: As a general guideline I don't eat any processed foods. I use organic, fresh produce, few nuts, no oils or butters, little carbohydrates, ACV, blackstrap molasses, ground flaxseeds, very little fish and chicken for my cravings, food combining (either protein and vegetables or carbohydrates and vegetables or fruits), our own eggs. I also drink daily Grapefruit-Orange juice.

I use the ACV mostly with the food I eat instead of drinking it. So I started pickling with ACV, make salads with ACV. I eat many small portions (for ex. 3 soft boiled eggs with a bit of horseradish or some olives) during the day. I am never starved, I feel I eat a lot without ever feeling stuffed. I don't need to loose weight but do so very slowly and steadily. My digestion has improved, flatulence and gas are hardly any problem and I feel good. The less I eat, the more I eat quality. I can easily buy everything organic (farmer's market helps, too) as my portions are small now and I am saving big by not buying chips, cakes, chocolates, sweets and all other junk.

Juice fasting for losing weight:

I go on a month-long juice fast every 2 or 3 years or whenever needed. This last time I went for 40 days. I didn't have a hard time apart from the very first day. Only on this day did I feel really bad. All the other days I felt rather good or even euphoric. I did drink fresh fruit juices, mostly in the first part of the fast grapefruit-orange juice (as it was available in our garden) and later added vegetable juices. I also made a rather large vegetable broth from a bowl of veggies including kelp and nutritional yeast. This made a wonderful hot alkaline drink. After I lost a lot of fat, I desired the nutrients of vegetable juices and included a lot of "green drinks". I haven't looked at my weight but I lost all my overweight. I was also determined to overcome my compulsive overeating habits.

Ginger

I wanted to know how much of the ginger am I supposed to take exact to mix it in the water. Also, how many times a day should I take this? I am not a diabetic but would like to try this remedy for weight loss. Please let me know as I am looking forward to at least loosing 15 to 20 pounds.

Kimchee

It is also easy to make your own Kim Chee - and much less expensive, too. Nourishing Traditions cookbook by Sally Fallon and Mary Enig, PhD have a recipe for it, and you could probably find some online, too, and in other cookbooks. Also, it is interesting to know that you can make it with or without salts and starters. A strictly therapeutic raw food version, for example, will not include any salt. Others use salt routinely as a backup safety measure, in case bad bacteria try to proliferate before the good lactobaccili really get going. You can also buy commercial starters that help jumpstart the good bacteria, too. And some recipes mix a little salt with a little starter. But it can be done successfully without any additives at all, just sayin. I've helped make it that way before, and eaten lots of it at a spa where it is a daily feature on the menu, (sauerkraut, actually, without the spices and hot produce that make it the version known as kim chee). It's all the same idea, really good for you. I met a man who cured his cancer (prostate) with a raw food diet, but he ate about a quart of sauerkraut every day, loved it. And for a 70+yo guy, he had great skin. Actually, I know women in their 40's who would wish for his skin, lol! He's had his cancer licked for many years when I met him. I learned that these fermented veggies are great detoxifiers, so it makes sense that they are good for weight loss. They also contain something that, when combined with cooked meats, turns the carcinogenic part of cooked meats into harmless and easily used amino acids. COOL!

Green Tea for Weight Loss: I drink about a liter of green tea every day and have lost five pounds in about three weeks. This is a lose leaf good quality green tea (blueberry green tea to be exact). That is the only thing I had changed in my life style. I am going to keep drinking it!

6 ONIONS
4 CARROTS
6 TOMATOS
1 1/2 KILLOS WATER
1 CELERY

you have to mince all of them together with regular soup (you can usually get this in european stores its just plain soup with nothing on it or you can do it without the soup it all depends on the taste you like)

Eat all of this for one week nothing else and I gurantee you will lose 12 or more pounds in 7 days, I lost 12 in my first week I will continue and let you know...

Good luck

Honey and Cinnamon

i have been drinking honey and cinnamon tea for about a month and have lost 10lbs i don't really change anything about my diet, however i noticed somedays i do eat less and do not have the munchies, but somedays i will pigout and not gain any weight,,,i drink it mainly at nite, and sometimes in the morning if i have time,,,i do add a ginger/honey flavored tea to it to mask the taste of the cinnamon and honey

recipe, i put in two shakes of cinnamon
one spoon of honey to taste, if it doesn't taste good you're not going to drink it, so adjust accordingly and use a tea that is to your taste,,,

it is important to use ceylon cinnamon (Cinnamomum Zeylanicum) not cassia cinnamon (Cinnamomum Cassia) because ceylon cinnamon only has .004% Coumarin and cassia has 5% Coumarin. Relatively small amounts of coumarin can damage the liver of particularly sensitive individuals.

i also found if i used pure raw unprocessed unfiltered honey the results were much faster,,,raw unprocessed honey is not runny and is in a solid state much like butter.

for those who like to follow recipes exactly
i use Owl brand Ginger Honey tea
Wee Bee Honey Naturally Raw
cinnamon from http://www.a1spiceworld.com/cinnamon_ground.html because most cinnamon found in stores are cassia or they are not even labeled, so it was easier to be sure i had the correct kind when i bought online, this was the cheapest place i could find it,,, i bought the 8oz size which comes in a convient shaker, this is lasting me a long time i've barely made a slight dent in the bottle.

hope this helps some of you guys with your weight loss goals!

Distilled Vinegar
Posted by MannaCandace (Phoenix, AZ) on 03/31/2009
★☆☆☆☆

DISTILLED vinegar has been processed - with heat. Raw Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) with the "mother" has not been processed as much. Heat KILLS good bacteria and enzymes in all foods. Therefore, over processed foods of any kind are NOT as good as the least processed comparable you can find. That's why fresh fruit is better than canned, bottled, jar, etc. fruit. So, NO distilled vinegar will noo work the same as Natural ACV with the mother in it. Besides, ACV is not expensive at all.

No Wheat, No Sugar

This may be due the quick rise in blood glucose levels shortly after eating. Mulberry leaf will help lessen the effects of sugar spikes. Good for diabetics, but let your doctor know...

No Wheat, No Sugar

A whole grain bread company had opened up in our town which my husband and I discovered in January. So delicious, it became an addiction. Each week I'd go and buy a loaf of multi-grain bread and some whole grain muffins and fruit bars. I'd only have one slice of bread per day, but before I knew it I gained 4 pounds which I found impossible to take off. I cut back on calories, but I still had to have my one delicious slice of bread every day. At the same time that I gained the pounds, I also started looking older and unhealthy all of a sudden, which I couldn't understand since I eat very healthy food with lots of vegetables every day and exercise 5x a week. Anyway, a week ago I decided enough was enough and went on an anti-candida diet. I cut out all wheat and sugar from my diet. No more delicious bread! In the 7 days that I started my no wheat, no sugar diet, I have lost 4 pounds and look/feel much more healthy. My skin is glowing too. Now it wasn't like I ate a lot of sugar before starting on my diet, but I did have a teaspoon of brown sugar in tea about 4x a day. And then I was only eating 1 slice of bread a day. Not a lot, but even these small quantities were reaking havoc on my body.

I hope everyone who is having trouble losing weight will consider eliminating those 2 things from your diet. The results are fast and remarkable!

No Oils, No Sweeteners
Posted by Gean (Salina, KS) on 03/27/2009

Hi, I would just like to share my recent experience with weight loss. A few months ago I had read about the Budwig diet where you mix cottage cheese and flax oil, how it helps with all kinds of ailments, including auto-immune disease, etc. So loving to experiment, I thought I'd try it. I had up to 4 Tblsp. flax oil a day with cottage cheese. I stayed on this for a couple months, during which I put on 8-10 lbs. I stopped the regiment and tried to lose the weight. Very healthy diet (whole food, vegetarian), little food, lots of food, no suppers, light suppers, exercise, occasional fasts, you name it. Nothing helped. I also tried the "good oil" theory (virgin coconut oil, cod liver oil), and I only put on more weight. ACV, and same.

Then I decided to go on a no free fat diet (no oils of any kind), and no sweeteners of any kind (no honey, molasses, nothing), but I wasn't fanatical if there was a little oil or honey in my bread. I was very careful not to put butter on my bread, no oil on veges, nothing like that. I also stopped any and all stimulants or spices, or anything fermented such as soy sauce, sauerkraut, ACV, etc. Of course no artificial stuff like pop. The first week I didn't notice anything. But the second week I lost 9 lbs. and I feel fantastic. I'm at the end of the second week. I have zero food cravings and eat my fill of whole foods with no free fats or sugars (meaning I eat fresh fruit, some dried fruit, and fats in their natural form such as olives, avocados and nuts (I eat small amounts of even natural fats, as they will overload your liver). I don't drink water with my meals, only between meals. I eat a light supper of a piece of toast (whole grain of course) and a pc. of fruit, around 5 or 6 pm. For breakfast and lunch I eat until I am full.

My conclusion was that the free fats were blocking proper hormonal function, and as long as I was doing that no amount of dieting would work. Now that the hormones are balanced, I don't have to starve, I feel great.

I hope this helps someone.

Apple Cider Vinegar, Blackstrap Molasses
Posted by Carmenza Roldan (Chicago, ILL. USA) on 03/26/2009
★☆☆☆☆

I'm so excited that I found this great website, it seems like I'm addicted since I come here for all kinds of health concerns and I always find great advice from all of you!

I started with the ACV and the Molasses two weeks ago, my main concern was losing weight and be healthier, I feel good I had not experience any allergies or sinuses problems, but I had not seen any improvement in regards of my weight, I had cut down the carbs and I'm eating small portions and still have not seen not even 1 pound.

I bought the organic vinegar the brand recommended in this website with the mother, I take this vinegar 3 times a day before meals the first time I take it right after the molasses first thing in the morning.

I wonder if it is the combination of the 2 the vinegar and molasses that is not allowing me to see any results in regards of the weight. Please advice. Thanks.

Multiple Remedies

Hi Laure:

I do not usually give advice to people, but you did not give your age in the write up. I would think that your hormones are out of whack and need balancing, in order to lose weight. I myself had gained weight, but not as much as you. Since correcting my hormones, I have lost weight and feel way better.

AS for your illness or flu, a biofeedback session might help you. I know of someone who basically gave up. Went through all tests at the doctors and could not find anything wrong. She had Diarreha for six months and was down to 80 lbs. One session of Biofeedback kiled the virus or bacteria she had and she is 100 per cent now. I believe it can get rid of candida, which is a very common problem and causes many other dieases if you are filled with the yeast. Hope this helps.

Multiple Remedies

This is both a weight loss and health issues question.
I REALLY need your help figuring this out.

Eight yrs ago I became very ill with an extreme flu for 3.5 mths, it seemed to mutate every mth. I was given 6 day antibiotic prescriptions 1 x mth for 1st 2 mths. No medication worked.

I had previously eaten a low-carb type lifestyle diet which does contain Healthy Carbs only for 4yrs (Somersizing) with no problems. Due to being ill for so long I gained 30lbs in the 3.5mths, not like me at all. I was barely eating anything each day, sometimes going 1-3days without food. After I got better (not well), & 4mths later, I still had "0" energy & felt sick most of the time. Almost every morning since.... immediately after waking I begin coughing violently (from my stomach not chest), as if I am about to vomit. If I do vomit, its more like spit and sometimes acid (haven't had any "food" at this point). I switched to water in the morning, found this didn't help much. This continues to this day, I've found recently if I drink 2 cups of sage tea before bed it does seem to settle this down.

My doc said "my body had taken a hell of a hit, and would just take time to get over it. About 5mths". I endured the 5mths, continuing my low-carb style WOE (eating only heathly carbs 1x per day). During that 5mths I gained another 10lbs & I really have no clue how. When I went back to the doc....he just shrugged his shoulders and told me to go home and rest that it may take up to another year. I believe this was a total copout on his part. 2 yrs later he finally tested my thyroid and sugar levels & said they were fine. Refuses to test my hormone levels because he doesn't beleive in HRT's (natural or chemical). I just wanted to know where my levels were at.

I've always been one of those people who found it easy to lose weight, then I hit a phase 11 yrs ago where I gained 25lbs and couldn't take it off. I then found my low-carb style WOE (Somersizing: note we DO eat healthy carbs) & lost all the weight over 3 mths & have stayed with it since with not one problem.

It's now 8 yrs later and I'm worse not better (more fatigued), and its a struggled just to do basics everyday. And have gained another 35lbs over time. I love my low-carb type lifestyle WOE (Somersizing) and won't change that. But over the past 3.5 yrs I've noticed something weird going on. I've tried to adjust my WOE to eliminate it, but this hasn't worked either. Instant, sometimes extreme heartburn. The only things that settle it down are homemade ginger tea.....and for instant relief until the ginger is ready, I've found sipping a small amount of cream really lessens the heartburn. I've tracked down some culprits. example: my decafe coffee. I thought it was the brand so I switched brands....nothing changed. So now I can only have 1 decafe coffee every 2nd morning. I do drinks Lots of water per day, and LOTS of veggies. I sometimes get the heartburn when drinking water too. I'm assuming I must be full of acid....any ideas what could be causing all of this? Acid or other.

I've have people suggest carb blockers (but I only eat healthy carb in the morning 4x per week), I can't see where they would help.

I've tried digestive enzymes, didn't seem to do anything. Although in fairness perhaps I didn't take them long enough.

I've been wondering if my body is having difficulty breaking down proteins/fats, and need something for that????

I've now tried sooooo many different "remedies" and am at a loss. And am not rich and tired of spending $$ on what doesn't work.

Various herbal & other supplements etc.

I also tried taking CLA & borage combo and drinking sage tea.

Yes, I've been back to the doc a few times.......but he has been NO help. The most he has said is that I need to lose the weight. Refuses to get down to business regarding the other symptoms.

I don't know whether all of this is connected to my being so ill so long ago or not. Or whether each issue is connect to others or not.

I only mentioned my WOE so you'll understand that I do not eat the regular standard Canada diet, no junk foods, no fast foods, no pop etc. Just healthy foods

If you have any ideas at all they would be welcome.
I'm sorry this is soooo long, but I'm afraid I could leave out a vital clue to figuring this out.

I am desperate now.... beginning to have physical problems due to overweight and fatigue.

Ted, any help you can give me in trying to figure this out would great be appreciated.

ACV and Baking Soda
Posted by Katie (Fort Collins, Colorado) on 03/23/2009

Just thought I'd make a correction to Blanche's post. To "alkalize" the blood would refer to raising the pH. Going from 8 to 6.8 would be lowering the pH and making the blood more acidic, not more alkaline. Also, the ideal pH for the blood is 7.4, so I'm not sure why you are trying to lower it so much...

Raw Food Diet

I signed up for a 10-day raw food cleanse and extended it to 14 days, incorporating green smoothies (yum!!!) I noticed a big difference in how I felt as well as how I looked. My tight pants were loose on me in this very short period of time. I did not break the cleanse well, and ended up in bad habits. Maybe if I had been working out I would have stuck with the healthier life style. But I ended up going back to my "old" self. I'm getting back on the bandwagon because I know it works and it's the best for my body. Wish I could convince my family to want to follow along. Makes it difficult when someone else brings home junk food. My will power has little to be desired!!!

Master Cleanses

I've used the Master Cleanser ("MC") for the past 5 years at least 3 or 4 times each year. I personally think this is by far the BEST cleansing fast I've ever tried. I highly recommend reading the entire "MC" booklet before trying the cleanse. It contains a wealth of information that should NOT be carelessly overlooked.

During the 5 years I've done the fast (always, the recommended 10 days), along with propper diet and exercise changes, I lost approximately 75lbs. I do agree, that the "MC" should not be used as a weight-loss regimine alone, but with propper diet and exercise, I feel it is an excellent way to maintain good health. I'm 46 years old, and thanks to this fast and the changes I've made in lifestyle re diet and exercise, I've been able to maintain the majority of my weight loss.

PS: You don't need to add the Cayenne pepper if you don't want to, but it aids in the removal of mucus. That's why if you have a cold, and you do the fast for 2 or 3 days, the cold will disappear immediately.

The diet you are suggesting is low-carb and low fat. The exclusion of fruit seems questionable. I find it hard to believe anyone is overweight from eating too many apples and grapefruit.

ACV and Baking Soda
Posted by Shinewin (Hildenview, NC) on 03/01/2009

If you have sensitive skin and body, i suggest you don't use the baking soda. I started two days ago with the apple cider vinegar diet. I had baking soda in my drink and the baking soda burn my throat and makes me cough a lot. So yesterday, I switch to not using the baking soda...and so far so good.

I notices, my appetites had changed since i started drinking this diet drink. No matter how good the food looks or smells, my mouth and stomach tells me "no" to it. The hardest thing to me about getting a diet is my appetite! So apple cider vinegar is a two thumbs up for me. I have a thyroid problems, so when i exercise, I have a hard time breathing. I am glad I found something that can help me lose weight without exercising or starving myself.

I sip some before i eat anything in the morning, and after each meal or snacks, I will sip a little. Sometimes, I don't even finish the whole 32 oz that I made.
My recipe:

2tsp Apple Cider Vinegar
1tsp Honey
1tsp Lemon or Lime
1Cup Orange Juice
The rest is water.

I will keep everyone updated on how much weight i will lose in two to three weeks from now. I currently weight 150 to 153.
