Hi Piya,

You can get Borax at some chemists shops, not all chemists keep it but if you place an advance order with them, then they do get you. Or you have yourself to go to the the place in calcutta where these whole sale chemical dealers are there. Like in Mumbai you get it in shops at the Princess street.

Borax is known by the name "Tankan bhasma" in Ayurveda. You can find it in any Ayurvedic shop.

Under what name is borax available in India? If I ask for borax in the local pharmacy, I am given boric acid, which is a white powder we use to keep ants away. I read the initial warning not to use boric acid instead of borax. Kindly let me know what I should look for.

Borax is available in Bangalore in chemist shops behind Commercial Street (Saleh Ahmed Rd) and in Chickpet. I have recently begun to use borax to treat mange on a street dog with amazing results. After watching the disease take over and kill hundreds in my lifetime (untreated mange drives dogs to distraction, many times mistaken for rabies by vets - mites seem to attack their very dna or their nervous system). This particular street dog has been losing a battle with mange for over 2 yrs. Ivermectin didn't help, diet, homeopathy or neem oil - nothing seemed to slow the disease. After just wiping the dog 4 times over 2 weeks with very dilute borax and vinegar, (because I was nervous) I can see the dog at peace with a slow regrowth of hair. Thanks, Ted, I feel like *I've* been cured of a lifetime of suffering watching them go through hell! I hope to use it more boldly with many more street animals over time. :)

I'm replying to my own comment because the first dog that I treated for mites died today anyway. I'm still grateful to the Borax-peroxide because it cured her of a terrible continuous distress, but mites are probably a symptom of a deeper, wasting disease that the skin is trying to excrete. I think that underlying problem of acidity, a failing kidney-liver, blood poisoning, chronic infection should be addressed first, or simultaneously, for healing. Homeopathic borax 3x and 30x are available in Shivajinagar, Mvm and Majestic.

I have a question for you guys? If you know where I can buy borax let me know. It's not available in Tiruvannamalai at all, but they do have boric acid powder which is not so useful to me. Let me know if you know where I can order it from.

I am answering my own question here, but it may help someone else. Unfortunately, I have forgotten the name of the manufacturer (if I find it I will post here), but I was in contact with a company in Coimbatore. I found them on Indiamart.com, I think (it was a while ago, so I am struggling to remember). I spoke to a gentleman who was happy to ship borax to me anywhere in India. He sold in a minimum of 25 Kg quantities and this was quoted at 1800rs. The large quantity suits me fine as I use it for laundry, hair, bathing and consuming. And by the way, for anyone who is wondering about the state of their washing machines or clothes after long term washing with borax, my family has been using only borax (nothing else at all) to wash all their clothes for over 20 years now. We all wear a lot of whites and they look fresh as anything. The washing machines are also functioning perfectly with no build up or residue after many years. We have septic tanks where my family lives and the borax has had no bad effect at all on these either. I encourage all to get rid of the toxic washing powders and body products and try the remedies on Earth Clinic.
