Garlic is a miracle cure! I've had an abscess above my tooth for a few weeks. I did not want to go to the dentist and get the lecture for something I already know is my fault. I was searching online and came across different sites that had garlic on their list of natural cures. This was the only site where I saw reviews. After reading the reviews and heading the warnings (possible chemical burns), I decided to give it a try. Yes it burned like h***, and I walked around with stinky garlic breath but it worked like a charm. After applying off and on periodically yesterday for as long as I could take the pain, it was half the size it was in the morning and I could see the abscess was draining. By this morning I had one little spot which was gone by the afternoon (rinsed with salt water instead of garlic since I had to go to work). This evening very little pain with the garlic but want to make sure it is healed. I can't believe it but it definitely worked for me.

A little goes along way. I usually cut my organic garlic clove in half. Remove the green shoot in the middle with the knife if it's overripe.

My molar filling broke in half. I will Chew half a clove directly on that tooth. I swish with water vigorously. Oil pulling doesn't help any for me. But I will rub the gums with coconut oil or rinse with spring water/ pink Himalayan salt sometimes. I've even used colloidal silver to swish water.

Carry that extra garlic clove in your pocket god forbid the pain returns. Every Dentist wants to sell you a root canal. I just want the thing extracted. I've seen geriatrics gum hard foods. I find it ridiculous to try and save a decaying broke tooth. Surgeons want to put you on a list weeks away.

I have respect for the "redneck dentistry" on YouTube. Though I would never chance it.

Hi Amanda, Your experience with garlic is interesting as you are chewing the stuff directly - wow - hard row to hoe there ! The received wisdom (out there) seems to recommend that the garlic clove (or cloves) be minced up or cut up very finely and allowed to sit there on your dedicated garlic/onion slab (!?) for approximately fifteen minutes while the chemistry struts its stuff (and makes your board stink). This increases the surface area and makes it more effective which is what you want. Source better garlic than some of the imported stuff of VERY questionable origins!! See how I can be politically correct occasionally! The property called Allicin(sp?) is what gives garlic all its anti properties and helped our troops in the trenches in WW 1 before Alexander Fleming could come to their rescue: anti-viral, anti-biotic, anti-oxidant, anti-parasitic etc. plus having a bit of Potassium, Selenium and Sulphur et al. I tend to mix it up with something else and spread it onto toast but you may be steering clear of toast if you have a tooth problem, in which case you could mix it into yoghurt or other dairy products. If you are dairy free then you could consume it with honey. If you are diabetic you may want to chew it directly!! Honey and Garlic in the trenches was a bright idea too. If you mix and mingle you may wish to hunt out something called aged garlic extract. If you use it in cooking then you should include it towards the end of the cooking process so as not to lose its remarkable effects.

It should at least assist in keeping the vampires away.

I hope this helps you.

Joke:

Patient says: Doctor, doctor, I keep on thinking I'm a vampire.

Doctor says: Necks please!

Cheers, Michael

WARNING!

Hi EC loyalists and followers,

I wanted to raise a red flag of caution to all of you who are prepping and using Garlic for tooth problems. I have relied on Earth Clinic for many health insights and cures. I have been super pleased with my results from so many of you who have taken time to share your cures and offer helpful suggestions. I used garlic just yesterday to address a tiny abscess that I noticed on my gum. I applied several pieces of "raw" garlic to the area (by pressing the garlic against the infected side of my jaw). I left each piece on for approx. 5 minutes and then alternated with a warm sea water rinse and a diluted solution of Hydrogen Peroxide. The boil immediately disappeared after 2 or 3 hours but what happened next sent me to the ER this morning and my condition is still a difficult one.

The garlic blew up the inside of my jaw and the lining looks like a road map to hell. In addition, the swelling advanced to my lip where I now have deep redness, a very unattractive swollen lip and blistering that is 4 times the normal size. I had no idea that garlic could cause such serious damage, certainly not real burns! A little innocent home remedy has led me to an ER visit and a very unsightly 2nd degree burn. I am just reaching out to advise one and all NOT to use garlic in its raw state directly on the inside of your mouth!!

The ER physician mentioned that my burn is equivalent to a chemical burn and she was appalled to know that garlic was the culprit. I am not taking any antibiotics or topical meds for it. I'm just icing it every few hours, praying and applying a little Vaseline and aloe gel on it. Needless to say, whenever I use garlic again, it will be in capsule form. Please take precautionary measures when applying it directly to sensitive gum tissue, I don't want anyone to have to endure what I'm going through right now! I am beside myself and if anyone out there can offer me a suggestion or a proven remedy for how to heal this horrible burn (other than aloe and honey, which has not helped me in the least), I would be sincerely grateful and forever in your debt! Thank you.

Also, I wanted to ask if EC worked with any other "healers" like Ted or would know of a resource bank where I could get help from a respected healer to help guide me around healing this very serious burn?

Thank you and continue the incredible work that you do for humanity.

I look forward to your response.

Chewing raw garlic on an abscessed tooth has cleared up over 6 infections for me. Works absolute wonders! And quickly, within a few hours no more pain!

I've had recurring infections in my mouth for years. I'd gotten accustomed to the antibiotic routine at least a couple times a year. My teeth are horrible, I'm preparing to get them all pulled and get dentures, but trying to save to get dentures first so I won't have to go without teeth.

For about two months I'd have severe pain near one of the broken teeth when I'd lay down, but it didn't bother me during the day. Then I noticed a lot of tenderness to the point that I had pain when even the softest of foods touched the area.

I debated going in to get yet another round of antibiotics. Then I decided to try a more natural route. I found this site with various ways to use garlic to cure an infection.

Last night I started biting down on a clove of garlic and holding it on the infected tooth as long as I could stand. I think I lasted about 10 minutes. I spit out the clove and saliva that'd built up (I didn't want to swallow) then I ate another fresh clove of garlic. I felt a lot better.

This morning the tenderness and pain was back but I was out of garlic. Went to the store and got garlic and garlic juice (bottled in the spice area). I again bit down on a clove of garlic for about 10 minutes before spitting, ate a clove and made a mouthwash from the 2oz garlic juice, 12 oz water, and 3 tsp salt. I swished with the mouthwash for about a minute then held it on the infected for a minute before spitting and rinsing with warm water. Feeling a lot better again. Going to keep up the routine a few times a day to try to rid the infection completely.

Firstly, let me be clear here. I am currently 24hrs into a course of antibiotics for a seriously swollen abscess. I had an abscess on the same tooth 3 weeks ago and was prescribed antibiotics. I tried various home remedies at the time (salt water, tea bag, turmeric to name a few) and it took a full 4 days for it to disappear. I hadn't however tried raw garlic. This time I got no warning as I did the last time, I woke up yesterday with what felt like a golf ball in my mouth, swollen from my top lip up to my left eye and in quite a bit of pain so I went to the dentist who prescribed more antibiotics and a follow up in a week. I couldnt wait another 4 days so I tried garlic this time.

Late last night I cut a clove of fresh garlic in half and mashed it flat with a knife, I put it between my upper gum and cheek for as long as I could stand the sting then chewed it up a bit into the damaged tooth and swallowed it with water (to fight it from the inside as well). I left it 10 mins and repeated with the other half and went to bed as the pain was subsiding enough to get some sleep. This morning I went straight at it again with the aforementioned method and again the pain started to subside, the swelling was definitely reduced but I was getting sick of chewing garlic. At around 6pm tonight I decided id manage to eat soup so I chopped half a clove of garlic finely and mixed it into the warm soup and tried to chew the little bits as I went.

To my absolute amazement around half an hour later I could taste blood, I spat it out and it seemed like dark stagnant stuff so I pressed on my cheek, which was painful but worth it. The swelling completely drained down and apart from my gum feeling a little tender I am almost completely pain and swelling free. I can't say for sure it was the garlic but it's the only thing I did different this time and its been a massive improvement and I believe the people who claimed it worked for them.

At the end of the day it's only garlic so just try it anyway.

IMPORTANT NOTE: all products I used were 100% ORGANIC.

First time using this site & successfully overcame tooth abscess. Cured within 1 week. Dentist obviously gave me antibiotics which I did not take. Instead, above and beyond all therapies I implemented, RAW GARLIC worked immediate magic.

So heed to this message: if you can stand the temporary yet intense pain/burning sensation upon chewing on a fresh clove of garlic and placing the pulp with your clean fingers or tongue on the abscessed site for as long as you can stand it, it will immediately start working it's miracle. When done with this burning ordeal, swallow all the garlic you have in your mouth.

On the other hand, if you're unable to do so, then consume raw garlic (either sliced up or minced or whole) with fresh food (like a salad) or just chew it and swallow downing some water or liquid right after if you like. The goal is to get RAW GARLIC in your system as soon as you notice an inflammatory situation come up in your mouth/body. I consumed between 4-6 cloves daily and continue to do so to strengthen my immune system.

As a side note, the first 3 days after doing some research and going by what 3 of my FB peeps had simultaneously advised me, clove oil was my 1st form of attack and it literally burned the inside of my cheek, my gum and the corner of my mouth which caused me to stop using it. My inside cheek and gums looked raw with a whitish layer of skin peeling off. Not good. Anyway, surely it aided in the whole process however, in the future I'd only apply it no more than a couple times a day versus about 4-5 times.

Stick to the garlic and frequent peppermint oil and water (about 4 drops oil per cup of water) gargles multiple times a day, especially after eating. Also, I brushed my teeth after each meal with my homemade OraMD (2T sweet almond oil with 40 drops each of Spearmint and Peppermint oils) which I've been using as my toothpaste for about 4 months and LOVE.

One last resource I believe I'm drawing benefit from is using Colloidal Silver. I apply one dropper full in my mouth and tilt head so it covers my healed abscess tooth area for 30sec before squishing around and swallowing. I do this about 3-4 times a day and will continue to do so perhaps until the bottle empties.

May this help you as it's helped me regain my healthy oral balance.

Whenever I get a gum abscess (not that frequent, but still enough to agitate me.), I have always drained it myself (painful, but has the desired result.) However, very recently, I had an abscess which lasted for over one week and was too painful to drain. I am the opposite of a hypochondriac and I believe in my bodies' ability to heal itself within reason, but this was getting too much. After some research, I found this website which recommended Garlic. I must be honest and say that I am shocked at how effective it actually was. I sliced part of a clove and wedged it between my inner cheek and the abscess (gum). At first, it burns (may burn alot depending on pain threshold) and feels quite uncomfortable, but try and bear it. After an hour, there was no pain and a noticeable reduction in swelling. The abscess then drained and appears to be healing fine. I have always had an interest in the healing powers of plants, herbs and natural methods (within reason) and I am very much anti pharmaceutical drugs, especially when nature can provide an equally good remedy. In this society, economic gain seems to over rule health.

Further research on Garlic has led me onto an interesting history on Garlic and what it can offer in a medicinal sense. Had it not been for this website (and the people who have left honest opinions), I would not have discovered this remedy. Thank you very much.

Here is a post from Earth Clinic in 2012 that encouraged me greatly. I hope it does the same for you, KT:

[YEA] 07/05/2012: Happynurse66 from Santa Monica, California, United States: "I woke up 3 days ago at 6am with a bad toothache. I went to bed the night before at 11pm with not a hint of pain. I called and saw my dentist that morn (Monday). She sent me to an endodontist.

The endodontist said I had a tooth abscess (top tooth, #4), "a real bad infection" to the root of my tooth, and that I need a root canal. He drilled my tooth and and drained pus. I asked, "How come I didn't have any pain at all the night before, and I woke up with such bad pain 7 hours later?" He said I had a "flare up". I had also self-medicated myself with ibuprofen 600mg at 6am when I woke up that day and at noon. After draining my abscess, he filled the hole, and his assistant gave me 600mg of ibuprofen (4pm). He then put me on a stronger antibiotic than he usually prescribes (Augmentin instead of Amoxicillin) and prescribed Vicodin. I have to take Augmentin twice a day for 7 days until gone. He told me to take 600mg ibuprofen every 4 hours continuously for for 3-4 days to help keep the swelling down. My gum and face were swollen. I was to take 1 Vicodin every 4-6 hours, as needed, for (breakthrough) pain. I got to the drug store and took my first dose of Augmentin and Vicocin at 5pm, one hour after leaving the endodontist. I have to return to him to do more dental work in 2 weeks, which I already have an appointment for. He says he can't do any more work until the infection is gone.

I've been diligent about taking the ibuprofen (every 4 hours) and Augmentin as directed. I've tried not taking Vicodin, but the pain has been too much. So, I've been having to take Vicodin every 4 hours, with the ibuprofen, yesterday and Tuesday. (Today is Thursday). I've taken Vicodin every 8 hours since last night. I don't like taking pain meds or antibioitics at all, but I knew the infection needed to clear and I couldn't take the pain.

I came across this site, and I've got garlic on the infected tooth at this very moment. Instead of taking my next dose of ibuprofen/Vicodin combo, I went to the store and bought a head of garlic for $.50. I peeled and cut a clove in half. I put one half on one side of my tooth, and the other half on the other side of the same affected tooth. The garlic did not burn initially, as many have reported on this site. But I bit the garlic piece(s) three sentences ago, and I can feel the burn now. It's starting to subside, but the site is also throbbing right now. Ok, so now I'm chewing on the garlic again, allowing the oils of the garlic to penetrate around my toothache. I'm holding on, like everyone here says to do. My eyes are watery/teary right now. The burning/throbbing feeling and teary eyes slowly go away - until I bite into the garlic again. The burning/throbbing feeling and teary eyes goes away again - until the next bite. I try to put the newly-chewed piece of garlic on the affected tooth until the garlic is all chewed up and consumed. I'm holding on!

Garlic all gone now. I'm going to wait a few minutes to allow the garlic to do its thing in my mouth. Then, I'll oil pull with VCO to get the garlicky smell out of my mouth (hopefully). I should add, I drank about 3 tbsp of ACV in about 16 oz water just before I put the garlic in my mouth. I know the beneficial effects of ACV, so I knew it couldn't hurt.

At this point of my writing, I've eaten all the garlic. No burning, no throbbing, and no teary/watery eyes. I've just written a "live" play-by-play of the all-powerful garlic remedy on toothache/abscess. It seems to be working, as I write this. I'll oil pull in about half an hour.

I wish I had read about this remedy before I saw the dentist and endodontist. I wrote a check for $274 to the endodontist that day (half of the cost) and still owe $274 (and that's with insurance! ). Had I known about this cure, it would have cost me half a dollar only to be rid of this pain and infection.

I know I just did the garlic, but so far, so good. I'll keep you posted.

Thank you EARTH CLINIC for your awesome website! Thank you everyone for posting and sharing your experience, strength and hope with me."

After 4 days of horrific pain I finally got smart enough to check Earth Clinic. Abcessed tooth, deep in the jaw line. Pain was enough to make me wnat to jump from a moving car. First, mistakenly, ran to the drug store and spent $15 onon over-the counter JUNK. LOL.

Then, at 2am on the fourth night, I finally checked in to EC. I saw the garlic cures for pain...as I did not have a fresh clove, but did have some chopped garlic in a jar, I immediately went to work. Scooped a teaspoon full and dropped in right onto to tooth. Ahhh...instant relief from the pain.

Next, I had to deal with getting the infection drawn to the surface. Tried the teabag. Just wet a regular old, cheap, black tea bag and put it directly on my gum and closed my mouth over it. I was able to grab some sleep for about 4 hours. A ringing phone woke me up at about noon. While talking on the phone, I felt a huge lump that had form next to my tooth. Quick...checked the mirror, the infection had surfaced.

I sterilized a needle, and one quick poke.....it started draining. 20 minutes and a bottle of Hydrogen Peroxide later.....DONE. I had my mouth open the whole time...cleaning with the HP and Q-tips.

I was able to attend a community dinner that evening at 5pm and definitely ate my share of hamburger, salads and banana splits....lol I was completely healed with absolutely no pain. Amazing.

As a preventative measure, I have since been mixing a 1/2 a teaspoon of Tumeric into a shot of vegetable juice...just to ward off any more infections.

Thank you EC! You and your posters have saved my life more than once.

Garlic and tea bags cured my tooth abscess.

I just wanted to say thank you to eveyone who took the time to post their experiences and remedies on this site. I am one of those lucky people who do not have dental insurance, I have medi-cal but they no longer provide dental care for adults. Ever since I had my kids I keep getting cavities which I had never had before. Any way, my teeth are not in the best condition and recently I took a trip to the emergency room for an abscessed tooth that I had. I took the full ten day dose of penicilin that they gave me. When the prescription ran out my abscess returned immediately, which means it was never gone, it was just reduced. I decide to hit the internet to research some natural remedies and stumbled upon this site. After reading all of the suggestions I went to my kitchen to see what I had. I had plenty of fresh garlic as well as several different kinds of tea. I sliced the fresh garlic and placed it in between my gum and cheek, right up against the abscess. It burned for the first few minutes. I replaced the garlic like seven times that night. Then when I finally went to bed I placed a tea bag against my gum in my cheek as well. First I used a green tea bag becuase that was what was reccomended but I remembered the caffeine and replaced it whith a camomile tea bag. When I woke up my mouth felt much better but I could tell the infection was still there. I went to work and did not mess with it for the first part of the day. In the afternoon I did the garlic slices two times to help with the swelling. When I got home the abscess was big again and I was getting ready to do the garlic again. I went in to the bathroom to look at it and I could see that the pus was closer to the surface. Then all of a sudden it opened up and snot colored pus and a little blood came out. I rinsed my mouth with hydrogen peroxide twice and then water. The garlic and tea bag did in 24 hrs. what penicilin could not do in ten days!!! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Take 4 cloves internally, crushed. To prevent a burning sensation in the stomach, coat in butter or extra virgin olive oil or honey prior to swallowing & take with food. Also drink lots of water.

Garlic thins the blood, so if your not taking any blood thinners, you can take a few more cloves.

Raw Garlic is the most powerful natural antibiotic, antimicrobial, antiviral & anti-inflammatory agent. It can be used to treat a fever too. Because it's heat sensitive, it loses these medicinal qualities if 'warmed' or cooked.

It can be applied directly onto the sore gum/tooth, also.

The spice, clove, in powder form, can be placed in the problem area to help numb any pain. It's also available as an 'essential' oil which means it's pure.

You can also apply Himalayan pink salt or any other natural salt, directly onto the area of discomfort. It acts as a mild pain reliever. Salt can also be used as a mouthwash and/or toothpaste.

Lyle from another post mentioned oregano oil.

Hope you get some relief soon!

I'm so thankful that I discovered this God given garlic cure for tooth infection. It hasn't been 24hrs yet and I already see 85% improvement.. I stopped taking Tylenol because the garlic worked much better. The pain went from a 10 to a 2. This stuff really works. The swelling and inflammation has gradually become less and less with each use. But I must say the treatment is not for wusses. It burns at first but I only hold it in my mouth till I can't take the burn no more. I chewed and ate a small clove over the course of about 20 to 30 minutes and rubbed my gums with it. Then later on I ate another larger clove repeating the same process. At about six am I repeated the same process with a huge clove but I only ate half. Then at noon I repeated the process with another half. By noon I had almost no pain at all but repeated the process anyway because like a course antibiotics I want a steady stream of it in my system. I also stopped taking my Tylenol at noon and still no pain! I had an appointment with the dentist to get an emergency tooth extraction at noon which I cancelled just to give the garlic a fair chance and so far so good!

I recently had swelling in my cheek on the side of my nose and right above the toothline (externally) it burned really bad :-( weirdly, there were no abcesses in my mouth...my face was tender and swollen and that was it... so, honestly I didn't want to go to the dentist because I do have two root canals in this same area and I guess I was just fearful I'd need to have one of the teeth pulled...so I started looking up all natural remedies to see if I could save a trip to the local Dr.

At first I tried goldenseal capsules in hopes that would kill any bacteria... it helped the pain subside the first day but didn't relieve the swelling... this took place on a Sunday, so over the course of the week as it is now Sunday (again) I have oil pulled with coconut oil, sunflower oil, bought and used colloidal silver, taken ALA, echinacea and goldenseal, put a tea bag on my gums, gargled with hydrogen peroxide, and salt water all in hopes of drawing the infection down out of my cheek...

Yesterday is the day I decided to try one last remedy before I go to the dentist (if this didn't work) and that remedy was garlic slices.... Holy flippin moly!! It stung ridiculously bad! I couldn't hold it on my gum for any longer that 1-2 minutes...but I kept on reapplying it. I noticed that I started to get a pus pocket above the root canal teeth and my jaw was getting really swollen as the night when on. So I went to bed and this morning there were zero changes.. still swollen still full of puss so I continued with the garlic and after 4 hrs it finally drained... it's still draining as I type this and my cheek is still kind of hard and tender so I'm continuing with the garlic slices.

I noticed that the area that was abscessed is now discolored-like bruised...has anyone else experienced this?

Anyway, garlic is what finally worked for me... and I'm hoping it will continue to drain and "get back to normal"

Wow. I mean, wow! I don't believe it.

I have had a really bad tooth infection for a month now. I have been on three big guns broad spectrum antibiotics trying to clear it up. Nothing will touch it. Nothing touches the pain. Yesterday out of desperation I decided to try garlic. I chopped two cloves, smashed it a bit, waited 5 min then swallowed it with water. I did this about 4 more times, then went to bed. Woke up, and the pain had lessened. Second day, I continued the protocol and tonight I'm pain free. I am seriously pain free. And I never even put a garlic clove on my gum yet because I was afraid that it would burn too much.

So here's what I do: Take two garlic cloves, peel, chop, then smash it a bit to where I see some juice come out, wait about 5 minutes and swallow it back. I put it on a spoon and just swallow. Repeated this about 4 times more.

This really works. The swelling and pressure in my gum is gone and the deep pain is gone. This is truly nature's antibiotic. I've been on three big gun antibiotics and it wouldn't even touch it. Amazing!

I am not sure if this is the root of the problem or not but my whole right side of my mouth hurts terribly. I tried the Garlic a little bit ago, it burned a bit and I couldn't hold it in my mouth for a long time due to me being pregnant and wanting to gag. After I used it I felt some relief but now I am in terrible pain again. Is this just the garlic doing it's job?? Or should I try the garlic again?

I got an infection from my wisdom tooth extraction and my face was swollen like a chipmunk. I went to the Surgeon and was told to go on antibiotics or it wouldn't go away.

I refused to take the antibiotics so I used my own remedies and it was fully healed within a week! When I went back for a follow up the surgeon assumed the antibiotics had cured it when I hadn't even taken them.

I cut up a clove of garlic and chewed on it lightly and left it in the area then swallowed it to also get the immune system boost. The garlic was strong and it hurt like crazy but I could feel the healing. I have done this every day before bed and it started to heal as soon as I started doing this.

-- Make sure to clean the infection site (if your specialist says it is OK) with a syringe with warm water and salt after every single meal to avoid infection.

In addition to Garlic I took the following:

  • Apple Cider Vinegar (swish and swallow)
  • Drinking lots of Green Tea
  • Vitamin D
  • Olive Leaf Complex
  • Clove Oil applied to the area
  • Yogurt
  • Vitamin B
  • Ibuprofen for pain/swelling

I am still trying to find a natural anti-inflammatory that actually works.
