Goldenseal

I have been suffering from chronic BV for a year and a half! I have tried everything from metronetizole, clindamycin, metro gel, boric acid, acidophilus, folic acid, vaginal probiotics, the list goes on and on.

I finally found a cure.

It may seem like a lot, but I have been BV free for 3 months now and I cant believe it! The secret is goldenseal root. It is a natural antibiotic. I take one goldenseal root pill, 2 cranberry pills (healthy urinary tract-not meant to help BV), one folic acid, one garlic pill, and one probiotic every morning and one goldenseal root, one garlic and 2 cranberry pills everynight. I did that for the first month and have been only taking the morning set of pills for the last 2 months. I have no bv, no abnormal discharge, or cramping like I used to get! It is amazing! My boyfriend and I are finally able to be intimate without having to worry about the dreaded BV. I had a friend recommend Goldenseal root and also, when I was buying it, there was a lady that asked me if I was using it for BV and she told me it was a godsend for her! I am so happy I found this product! I hope it can help other women out as well!

Bacterial Vaginosis:

The treatment course that I have found works best for me, without having to go to the GYN & taking meds that have side effects is:

First: do not have sex-if you suspect BV and or while treating, it will only take longer to get it cleared up and you could be passing it to your partner-which means, he's just giving it back to you! Watch what you eat! Sugar is terrible for bringing this on, as well as breads & cheeses. Drink plenty of water, take vitamins, like acidodipilus, multi emzymines, vitamins A, B-100/150, C, D, E, COq10, eat yogurt with live cultures(greek) and get the proper amount of rest.

At first onset of the symptoms-ie> the dryish goo/brownish paste, possible no smell, very little smell or slight stinch to foul smell, for some a fish(especially after sex) or bready smell (mine comes after my period, so it seems like a continued period but its not) start the course of inserting "BORIC ACID" immediatly (yes thats "roach away" powder-can be purchased very cheap & goes along way-plus can be used in the household for pest) capsules (get the gelatin capsules from a vitamin store or a medical supply store or possibly from a pharmacy), do this twice a day for at least 5 to 7 days (if really bad up to 10 days). You will want to wear a pad and it is normal to wipe & it be gritty/thats the crystals in the boric coming out, thats what is breaking down the bateria & getting it out of there!

Optional: not neccessary everytime but I've also used the "medicated douche" once in that course (use it at the end of the course of treatment to flush out the rest of the bacteria) but don't over douche-can make things worse.

If you find itching included, you can also add in the course of treatment, insert a capsule of tea tree oil/vitamin E oil (note: put the tea tree oil in the small portion of the capsule & the vitamin E oil in the bigger part) you will want to insert it as far as you can & recline or lay flat for about 15 mins at least, so it don't just run out right away, it will relieve the itching, for some, it might burn/sting for a second, if you've been scratching and have broken the skin but for the most part it is a cooling/methol relieving sesation and both have skin healing properties and are antispetics, which help heal the skin irratations & kill bateria.

How I came about this treatment course: I have had BV off & on now since 2009, I was sexually assaulted and contracted this horrible afflection-I took the medications to only have it come back & it gets expensive having to see a GYN but with this method of treatment, it is getting better & less prominent each time I have it, its inexpensive & best of all-natural without side effects of harmful chemical drugs and the change in diet helps. I also have an unknown auto immune disorder, that makes me more subseptical to these type problems, make life changes & take natural approaches to allow your body to heal itself, take care & God Bless you all!

Baking Soda Douche

I've been suffering from Vaginosis and yeast infection for about 2 years now. I have used flagyl and Canesten 1 vaginal tablet which made me feel better for a few weeks but the infection was back again afterwards. I have also been avoiding food high in sugar and alcohol. So upon reading most of the remedies here in Earth Clinic, I have decided to try the Baking Soda douche last night. I think it's working great right now. The smell is gone and the itch went mild to none. I'll try to use it every other day for one week and will update you guys. The measurement I used was 2 tbsp of baking soda to 2 cups of distilled water. Hope this works for good!

Lactic Acid, Prebiotics

Bacterial vaginosis is caused from an imbalance in the pH, period (no pun intended). Therefore, any treatment should focus on balancing the pH. I've narrowed my causes down to ANYTHING that alters the pH with blood, lubricants, & soap as my biggest culprits.

I spent years doing allopathic remedies for BV and at-home experiments, to no avail. I briefly got rid of the BV for a couple of months after a painful experiment putting an ascorbic acid suppository internally, but it came back. A few months back I moved to a cervical barrier method of BC, but refused to use that N9 spermicide. After much research I located an approved contraceptive gel out of Canada (Contragel) that used ALL naturally derived ingredients. It is pricey, but I figured it was worth not using N9. The main ingredient, "lactic acid". At the time, I had no idea it would work to treat BV. I did a "test" by using a medicine syringe as an applicator (discard after use or sterilize) to put the gel internally and see if I had any reactions, prior to putting it to "formal" use. I woke up the next morning with ZERO BV symptoms and at the time I had both BV and a yeast infection confirmed through a pap, but I had refused to take the pills this time. BOTH were gone and I was actually left with a pleasant sweet odor (the lactic acid).

What I've learned after extensive research that focused on actual lab studies and NOT person dependent testimonials:

*Stop putting ANYTHING that is not pH balanced anywhere near your lady parts. This includes lubricants used by doctors or rad. techs for U/S. Medical professionals think I am crazy for refusing, but it's not that uncomfortable or I bring my own lubricant (recipe below).

*Use water to wash yourself or make your own lactic acid based soap (recipe below). You can also buy Vagisil pH balanced type washes, but they have a bunch of chemicals in them usually or rip you off price wise.

*Probiotics will NOT make their way to your lady parts, so that is a waste of money and you should take ones that will colonize your GI track or use them vaginally (OBGYN taught me this).

*PREbiotics (FOS and GOS) WILL make their way into the lower colon to feed the good bacteria that will make their way to your lady parts. There are many effective studies on the use of PREbiotics for BV treatment (orally & vaginally).

*Use non-lubricated condoms with a homemade pH balanced lubricant or the Contragel spermicide (more expensive). After much research I came up with the following recipe: 91% Distilled water, 5% coconut water, 1% ACV, . 16% non-GMO glycerin, 2% lactic acid, 0.25-3.0% Sorbic Acid until pH is at 4. You can use non-aluminum baking soda to increase pH if you get it too low. Store in fridge or add appropriate broad-spectrum antimicrobial, if concerned. Put it in a container that will not expose the lubricant to air or your hands (like a bottle with pump or serum bottle).

*Make suppositories or gel to use vaginally AFTER you've been exposed to anything that may increase your pH above 4. 5. With research I developed this recipe: 73% Coconut oil, 25% FOS and/or GOS (hard to find, but Bimuno is 100% GOS from Europe), 2% lactic acid. A study also showed that the EO, Palmarosa, was beneficial in combatting candida strains, in vitro, so you could add a few drops of this too, if you're worried about yeast. This is oil based, so do not use it before intercourse, if using a latex condom.

*Take FOS and/or GOS daily to feed probiotics

That's it. The protocol you use should focus on pH, no matter what. You can buy pH strips to test everything too. Good luck and I hope this helps you.

Tea Tree Oil

Hi all you ladies out there who are suffering with this horrible BV! I've been there too... The vicious cycle of going to the doc and getting antibiotics that cause yeast infections as well... Only to have it all come back! Ugh!

I've been suffering off and on with this also for the last 8 years. And like you, I'm tired of the doctors and I'm trying homeopathic remedies. I've found the tea tree oil helps. I have found it in suppository form at Whole Foods. These have helped me tremendously and much easier in a suppository form. Not to mention the smell is sooo much better than that horrible fishy smell! And is soothing.

I've learned that our bodies need to be PH balanced of 7. 0 or better. It is proven that no disease, infection, or even cancer can live in a body that is PH balanced. Cancers thrive in acidic environments. But our vaggies are a different matter. Needing to be acidic.

I am trying these methods I've read on here too... Hoping they will be the answer!

Good luck to all of you! God Bless

I've fought with bv for years. The ONLY thing that has worked for me is douching with borax and hp. I reuse a standard clean douche bottle with a tbl spoon or so of each. Make sure water is hot so the borax dissolves. I use it for a week or so. Adding Borax to your bottled water will also cleanse the Candida from your system too. There is plenty of info on here about supplementing with Borax! It's wonderful stuff!

Hi I'm 33 I started getting bv around 22 after my son was born. I remember my mom suffers from this I used to comment to her after I would use the restroom right that it smelt funny she would get upset and say that's how we are supposed to smell. Ugh no I don't believe so. So after my first experience of being able to smell myself I went to the doctor he said it's bv. I told my grandma. She immediately said I had Trich, a std. Wrong person to tell besides my mother she was raised in the (50's) this is an era where they used Lysol to douche. Anyway I use the antibotic given which last me about 6 months. But I'm sexually active with my boyfriend of 8 year's now he comments now and then but not in mean way just he doesn't prefer oral as much. Yeah thanks BV!! So I found you all in hopes of curing my horrible embarassing bv. So here goes.

Not sure if you have tried this yet , but I have had great success at first sign of the itchy misrable yeast beast. If you use cold processed coconut oil and Vit E capsule. Just insert both and repeat 2-3 times a day. You can not believe how well this works. Minus all the pain and burning of things like Apple Cider Vinegar or tea tree oil. Plus it doesnt seem to mess up the balance ;-). Hopefully this can help someone. I also read about adding a vit B-6 capsule I think but the coconut oil alone is usually all that is needed.

After years of fighting a battle against BV, and now thanks to some antibiotics, yeast too. I decided to tackle this from all angles.

Things you will need:

Probiotic plain yogurt, rubber exam gloves (powder free), a clove of garlic (peeled and with a string sewn through like a tampon), hydrogen peroxide (HP), 2 non-stick guaze pads (3"x3"), tea tree oil.

I've been itching and burning terribly to the point where it keeps me up at night. Today I took some plain yogurt with live cultures and filled the fingers of powder free disposable rubber exam gloves half way. I tied the fingers off and froze them. Once frozen, they resemble the Monistat "ovules" or eggs. Then I did the following:

Took non-stick guaze pads (the kind that are shiny) and soaked it in a solution of hydrogen peroxide. The mix depends on what you can stand, I did 1/3 HP and 2/3 water. I cleaned really well with this. Toss the guaze.

Next I took my frozen yogurt eggs I made and cut off the rubber. I stuck it up my vagina as far as it would go. I followed this with the clove of garlic. Depending on how severe your infection is you should pierce a few slits in the garlic with your finger nail. I just slice off the sides since the inside is what fights infection, it may burn some people to slice it but the cold yogurt will soothe it. Then I soaked another non-stick guaze with the HP solution and added about 5 drops of Tea Tree oil directly on the pad. I folded this pad within the folds of my skin directly over my crotch. Put on cotton panties.

The relief is INSTANT! The tea tree may sting a bit at first since your skin may be raw, I've never experienced this but some may. Anyway, this has worked for me before and seems to be working right now. Hope this helps.

P.S. You may be able to taste the garlic in your mouth. If this bothers you, then just keep the garlic for night time use. I repeat the treatment every 12 hours using the string to pull out the old clove.

Hi Ladies, I too have suffered with chronic BV my entire life. I'm 47. Too many rounds of flagyl, metro that did not work and gave me yeast infections. so heres what I did.

In the morning I douched with half hydrogen peroxide half water. I take 14 billion acidophilus pills, a probiotic for womens health down there, B, 3000 IU of vitamin D3, 500 mg vitamin c and 800 mg folic acid.

At night, I douched with apple cider vinegar half and half, 14 billion more acidophilus( make sure they are the refrigerated kind) a multi vitamin with 2000 IU vitamin D3, 400 mg folic acid and another vitamin c. I also opened about 4 acidophilus capsules and added water to make a small ball and inserted in into my vajay. On day 4 I had unprotected sex with my boyfriend but he pulled out. Semen is the enemy! So far no symptoms and it has been a week. I plan on continuing the vitamins and probiotics. Ladies, google it vitamin D3 and folic acid deficient are linked to BV.

For BV, I have heard of good results with apple cider vinegar(AVC). Both drinking and douching. Look at the responses here https://www.earthclinic.com/cures/bacterial_vaginosis6.html#ACV

Drinking 1-2 tablespoons of AVC in a glass of water daily has helped me with a few different issues. Read about all of the different issues with which people have been helped by drinking AVC. https://www.earthclinic.com/remedies/acvinegar.html

I have suffered for 1 1/2 years w/o a break from BV. I've done 7 rounds of antibiotics, no help what so ever! I've tried the hydergon peroxide distilled douche route, as soon as I stopped douching BV returned :-(. Done holistic approach, acupuncture and boric acid inserts again no resolution! Oh and I've tried the pills orally and vaginally, nothing helped. I am at my wits end, my husband doesn't want to touch me, who can blame him? Horrible discharge and smell not very romantic! ANYONE have any suggestions?

I had reoccurent BV infections. Drove me nutsss!!! Was sick docs useless antibiotics. I went and got a probiotic, some potent garlic capsules (aged or dried contains no allicin and won't do anything), and some good colloidal silver (must be colourless otherwise it's no good and high ppm doesn't necessarily mean good) in rubbed a little right down there doesn't sting irritate or burn jus some instant relief, and a flax seed capsule. Usually it always returned after my period but period has come and gone and I feel great no infection. Give it a shot ladies. I know how embarrassing this can be.

Hi! I have been dealing with BV for years now. It's awful. I tried everything and nothing seemed to work. I recently decided to not use tampons and only use cotton pads through a period and miraculously the BV seemed to disappear. I have also been eating yogurt daily and taking a probiotic for safe measure. I just had my period again and did not use them this time either. We will see what happens. I have my fingers crossed!!

Tea Tree Oil
Posted by Justanotherwoman (Seattle, Wa) on 03/18/2013

I have been struggling with BV since 2005 (after my boyfriend introduced me to unprotected sex). Though I have been careful to wrap it up since, bv has continued to bother me more than mother nature herself. I have tried all forms of metronidozal/flagyl (until I realized that my reoccurring hiver were caused by the medication... My one and only allergy)... Tried peroxide (douche AND tampon) (worked for a couple weeks, but the case of bv tended to be WAY worse than the last each time) (sex also became painful)... Suppositories worked but were VERY pricey and only last about 4 months (and who can afford a bv savings account in this economy?)... While using the suppositories, I felt a tingle when insterting at night and a confident freshness in the morning. I am currently trying tea tree oil. (day one) it doesn't hurt but the scary "burning" that people speak of is a refreshing tingle. I have high hopes.

For those new to the struggle, keep your head up! You are NOT alone. I was lucky to have a boyfriend willing to sit through the ph balance talk (embarrassing but NECESSARY! )

Hey everyone!! WHAT A MIRACLE! I just wanted to tell my experience with these two! I have been battling BV off and on for four years. My body is very prone to infections and so yeast has always been a big issue with me. For the past couple years it's been both yeast and bv. I came across this site and found complete hope! I prayed that this was the answer. And it was! I diagnosed myself this very last time. I could tell by a slight odor, occasionally I would feel irritated, the discharge, and recently I was so irritated and red that I broke out into blisters. (This wasn't an STD, bv/yeast can cause blisters when left untreated and I was diagnosed with bv by them before) so anyways I immediately went to the HEALTH FOOD STORE and grabbed Acidophilus. The REFRIDGERATED 14 billion count LIVE bacteria. It has about ten different strands. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Refridgerated probiotics. It's worth the money. I honestly don't believe it would work if it was shelved. So I took one pro-b in the morning and inserted one vaginally at night for about a week. I started juicing and somewhat followed an alkaline diet. Bad bacteria feed off acidic foods so stay away from most acidic foods as you can! So important! IF YOU DONT KNOW WHAT FOODS ARE ACIDIC, GOOGLE IT. Your vagina naturally fights off infections but if it is weak it causes your vaginal ph to rise. Anything above a 4. creates a breeding ground for bad bacteria. I abstained from sex with my husband for about 3 weeks while treating. I started taking folic acid 800mg and a vitamin b12 after a week of treatment. It's been three weeks and I only take one to two probiotics everyday and do not have to insert one vaginally. ALL my symptoms are gone! Probiotics are so healthy and a life saver! I only used folic acid to get me completely out of the loop. Use your best judgement on when to stop/start taking probiotics/ FA. I took b12 because folic acid has a tendency to deplete this vitamin.

*some very helpful tips I also do to prevent bv from reoccurring:

DO NOT WASH YOUR VAGINA WITH SOAP! I don't even wash with ph balancing soaps. None work for me. Wash with just water! And do not wash inside! Sounds gross but It's really not! My vagina has never been so clean!

DO NOT SLEEP WITH UNDERWEAR! Vagina is naturally warm and moist. Wearing underwear to bed also creates a possibility for reoccurring bv/yeast

BUY UNSCENTED BABY WIPES! These are AWESOME! After intercourse I clean up and also make my husband clean up with baby wipes. He is uncircumsized so bacteria easily hides in he skin folds on his penis. So I make him wipe very good before and after. Also, I use them after each bowel movement. Just to be safe! Sorry if TMI

TRY NOT TO WEAR TAMPONS! I know ladies, pads feel like diapers, but even if you wear a tampon for the heavy days and change FREQUENTLY and on the lighter days use pads, that will help. Use pads when you sleep! Many women don't know that tampons mess up the vaginal ph. When we menstruate, our ph rises to 7.4 because that is the ph of blood. So when we place a tampon inside it is absorbs the fluids that causes our ph to rise.

If you have anymore questions I would love to help as much as I can! Don't give up ladies, there is hope!! Feel free to comment or reach my by email ariann_jones [at] yahoo (dot) com

Cure BV with Kefir. Plain Kefir has more probiotics than anything you can buy in a pill. Drink it in the morning before your meal and at night before you go to bed. Make suppositories with Kefir and a drop of oil of oregano at night for 7 days to kill the bacteria and restore the friendly bacteria all at once. (mix the oil of oregano with the keifer and store it in the freezer). Break off a piece at night and insert it. (only use a drop of oil or it may be too irritating) Buy sulfate free, and a propylene glycol free body products. Follow a ph balanced diet, and avoid sugar when you can. Add peroxide to your final rinse with your laundry to kill bacteria that may still linger in these items. Avoid tampons. Make kefir a part of your every day drink and it will not return.

Go to whole foods or a store that sells refrigerated pro biotics and get rueteri. You must take about 85 billion cultures a day, not dangerous and it will keep it at bay, but you will have to keep taking them. Takes two days to kick in. Sorry Im in the same boat.
