Okay, today I went to the doctor for my follow up appointment to check to see if I had BV because I had it June 7,2015 and they prescribed me Metronidazole pills which did hep until the 2nd to the last day, the BV came back.

Well....I came to this site and Googled other home remedies for BV cures and I totally forgot that Plain Unpasterized Yogurt always did the trick for me. Well I wrote on here a few days ago about the Boric Acid capsules which always work. Well, when I get BV I seem to get back problems, lower back pain, pelvic pain, itching, buring urine, and the whole nine. Well I said enough is enough and I had hubby go to the grocery store and get plain yogurt Dannon because they didn't have unpasterized and I drenched the tampon in the yogurt and inserted it and removed the applicator and left in on me for about one hour and it started feeling better, I still had a little BV but then it was going away, then I looked online the best way to use the yogurt and I inserted the yogurt inside the plastic applicator and the second time an hour later I didn't use the actual tampon, I inserted the applicator filled with yogurt as if it was a Monistat applicator-filled with yogurt and I did this about 6 to 7 times a day and it did the trick, my peed burned a little but not as much. (Your going to have to change your underwear several times and wear sweats because the yogurt will soak your clothes and leak)

I even work out with yogurt tampons so my underwear don't get sweaty (because you can get bv from working out leaving wet under garments on. Anyways, I didn't leave a treatment in over night but you can. I noticed the next morning, I felt so much better. Then I didn't use the yogurt anymore and I noticed that my pee no longer burned and when I went in for my GYn appointment this morning, she checked me for BV, Yeast, and UTI and it was all gone. No more BV, thank GOD. So ladies, Yogurt does work, don't douche because it can mess you all the way up. I use to douche with hydrogen peroxide and apple cider vinegar but it didn't work for me but make me worse.

The doctor thought I had yeast but it was left over yogurt, LoL. Other than that no signs or symptoms of BV, YEAST, or anything. I feel so much better thanks to the Yogurt because the pills do not work at all.

Treatment-Plain Yogurt with live cultures and acidophilis-unpasterized or

Boric acide capsules,

Third make sure you take probiotics as well as Folic Acid 800mg, Vitamin E and D

Fourth Acidophillus capsules(it's like a probiotic

Hope this helped all BV sufferers. Also drink tons of water I drink at least 10 bottles or more a day, especially at night when I get dehydrated. Along with 100% Cranberry Juice Northland brand or Ocean Spray and stay away from sugar as much as you can.

I am telling my story because I swore if I ever got rid of BV I would share what my cure was. I had this condition for over a year. Saw a doctor, what he prescribed did not work. I couldnt afford to keep going back, no insurance. I tried anything and every home remedy, including the boric acid. Did not work. Very frusrating. Cried many nights. Was feeling like I would just have to live with it the rest of my life. Finally I did go back to the doctor, a different one, and he prescribed me: Fluconazole AND Metronidazole. THESE PRESCRIPTIONS WORKED. I have been healthy since February. The end.

I had got bv right before I got pregnant last year. Its awfull. Well I did what my doctor prescribed me. Some inserts and what not. But it came back 5 months after I had my child. But my doctor told me to eat lots of yogurt. He also said its fairly common for women to freeze plain yogurt in a tampon inserter then stick it up your vagina. Its an old school remedy. So I will try this. Also he said eat lots of yogurt. Wish me luck.

Hi ladies! If you're on this site, you were like me, struggling to get rid of this stupid bv! I went to the gyn for a yeast infection and I found out I had bv as well! I took both the oral and vaginal medication for this! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't insert anything into the vagina including the peroxide! Your vagina is super sensitive.. I tried folic acid, probiotics, inserting vitamin c, I can't even remember all that I did! I got BV in December 2014 and it is now June 2015. but for 2 months all I've been doing is drinking lemon water! FRESH lemons. What I do is squeeze 1-2 fresh lemons into water from my tap and add a little sugar and it tastes like lemonade honestly! I do that everyday and my symptoms have gone away! Minimal discharge!!!!!!! I never experienced the fishy smell though. But PLEASE try this. I went online everyday for hours looking for a cure and I just thought that this would be something I would have to deal with forever. But I drink the lemon water, I don't use soap when I wash myself down there in the shower and I ALWAYS pee & shower after sex. PLEASE try these tips. I was just like you a couple months ago. good luck girls! I completely know what youre going through

I did yogurt insert and emptied probiotic pill in plain Fage 0%. Like I mentioned before, I use a medicine syringe. I used 90 billion pill in yogurt....it helped a lot. The plain yogurt alone did not have enough good bacteria to fight infection. I'm so happy this helped me. God bless ladies. This is an embracing condition that I wish on no one. Take care and enough plain yogurt everyday.

Hydrogen Peroxide Variations

I always said that I would post once I found something that truly worked for me. I hope that this information also blesses others that have suffered with BV. After lots of research and the combination of trying many things I have found that the following really works and my BV symptoms have not come back even through sexually intercourse, menstrual cycles, and heavy excercise. I first douched with a 3% hydrogen peroxide, that same evening I inserted a boric acid capsule and allowed that to work and drain over night. The next day there was plenty of discharge so be prepared with a liner. That evening I inserted a probiotic directly into the vagina there maybe some slight discomfort. I have not had any BV issues since. No daily maintenance required, which is truly amazing if you have been through what I have been through. Hope this helps! God Bless!

I found alkaline supplements (capsules) at the local health food store, thinking that would be a better option for me than buying alkaline water. However, I got terrible headaches when I'd take them. I don't know why, or if it was that particular brand, but I stopped taking them. I think like most things, it's trial and error. Good luck!

Where did you get the alkaline supplements? I've been drinking alkaline water for a week and the smell is completely gone but the discharge, now clear thank god, still won't go away. I think I need to take the supplements as well.

Oregano Oil

I suffered with a horrible odor for 4 years, many doctors, many different prescriptions and natural cures....finally, oil of oregano worked, a few drops diluted in about 10 drops of avocado oil, applied for 3 weeks, but started working right away....it was amazing. I cannot believe how long I suffered with this problem!

I thought I had BV, so I went to my OB/GYN for some meds. After several tests and at least 5 more doctors over a 4 year period and 3 different cities, each one said I had something different, and treated me for each issue they thought it was. One doctor tested it as E. Coli and said I must be "colonized" and it will always return no mater what I do. One physician said. "I think this odor problem is just the way you smell." Embarrassing! Gosh! I am, and always have been extremely careful about my hygiene...two showers every day, use antibacterial soap, etc..etc..but no one could cure this awful odor I was experiencing shortly after showering. I was so frustrated, and embarrassed that someone might smell this odor coming from me! I started wondering.... Was it coming from my vagina? My bladder? My glands? Four years, and no cure. I used all the prescribed medications to no avail. I douched with Hydrogen Peroxide. Still returned. Lots of external and internal good bacteria....nothing helped. I got to the point that I decided I was going to have to live with this problem for the rest of my life. I tried tea tree oil down near the opening of my vagina. After about a month, it caused a serious imbalance of my hormones, and my hair started falling out, by the handfuls! I stopped that immediately! So, I start researching essential oils, mainly for my tooth that has been bothering me. I find Oil of Oregano, which is supposed to be a very strong anti-bacterial oil, better than prescribed antibiotics.

I diluted the Oil of Oregano with 100% Avocado Oil, which I just use as face oil at night. Just a couple of drops with about 10 drops of the Avocado Oil. I rubbed it all around my pubic hair, the opening to my vagina, and it did sting just a little at first....but then after a few days, it stopped stinging! I noticed the odor had disappeared. I continued to use it as mentioned above for about 3 more weeks, wanting to make certain that all of the bacteria was gone...it has completely killed whatever that bacteria was, and my odor is gone. I just use it about once a week, to make certain that it never returns. I think that there must have been a bacteria that was resistant to all the drugs, and other treatments. I still don't know what it was exactly, and I think I picked it up in a hospital..... but I am thrilled that this 4 year problem is gone! Oil of Oregano is an excellent oil to keep in your medicine cabinet... make sure it is "ORGANIC". I bought several more bottles.

I was in the worst BV flare up in recent years and searched for an alternative to antibiotics, when I came across this information. After only 24 hours of drinking alkaline water (about 6 liters) I've felt a marked improvement! I'm not only amazed, but so relieved! My daughter suffers from BV as well, and is now drinking alkaline water. Thank you for the info! :)

Natural remedy for BV: I started with the half h2o/h2o2 douching but it's really a temp. fix. Never lasted long enough to be considered a remedy. I saw a posting about vitamin D 3 and decides to give it a try. I use the aformentioned douche method then started a daily regime of 2000 units of D3. I haven't had a problem since. The smell is compeletly gone!! I hope others give this a try. Its a cheap easy remedy that can be bought at your local vitamin store.

I have suffered with bv for years. I have tried vh essentials, metronidazole, probiotics and peroxide all of which helped but it always came back. I stumbled upon what is called baking soda therapy

Baking soda is a natural chemical compound that restores health, cleanses the body and eradicates toxic substances and effective at restoring pH balance in the body without harsh chemicals or toxins

I eat healthy, and run 3-4 times a week however I drink 3 to 4 cups of coffee with a teaspoon of sugar in each cup a day. I realized that this might be the culprit but I LOVE COFFEE and SUGAR!

I started doing the Baking Soda Therapy and within days, the bv started clearing up and it has stayed that way for several months. Every morning I mix a teaspoon of baking soda into about 12 ounces of water (a tall cup) and drink. The only draw back is the taste, it is like drinking a tall cup of salt water however, the benefits are amazing! It has worked wonders for me. Give yourself at least half hour before or after a meal as to not mess with your digestive process. Maybe start with half a teaspoon and gradually increase as your body gets use to it.

I did not have to combine this with any other methods; however if it doesn't do the trick for you, perhaps combine it with probiotics and vh essentials. I hope this helps. Good luck!

Goldenseal

I've had this BV crap for seven years. Reason I had it so long is because I have avoided the doctor because I have a muscle disorder called vaginimus. It's where I unable to insert tampons, suppositories or even have intercourse. My vaginal muscles clamp shut involuntary. I have went to the doctors a few times in the past but they were unable to perform a pap-smear on me due to my disorder. They diagnosed me as a yeast infection and sent me home with antibiotics and creams. Later I read about BV and that sounded like what I had more than a yeast infection. I tried another pap-smear (failed again) and tried to convince my doctor that perhaps my HP level is off due to BV. I had itching, slit burning, red and swollen, white thin discharge that smelled weird. This couldn't be yeast. They sent me home with Flagyl and it hardly did anything but temporary minimize my discharge and itching for three days, I was so disappointed... :(

I decided to try my own approach. This is what has helped me more than anything else:
Take Goldenseal root capsules twice a day for a week. This kills only the bad bacteria and fungi ( if you have a yeast infection too)

Take Folic acid once a day everyday to boost your immune system to fight off bad bacteria.

Take a probotic called Ultimate Flora 50 Billion count by mouth once a day, everyday. (I also would crack open the capsule and pour the powder in my vagina. This puts the good bacteria in you. Also make sure you buy it cold at a vitamin store (EX: I get mine at The Vitamin Shoppe) and put it in the fridge first thing. It has to stay cold to keep the bacteria alive or it will not work as good... :(

Avoid sugar, bread (anything with yeast), and high carb foods.

So far I seem to be system free. I'm waiting for my period to come to see if my symptoms come back. I hasn't been a easy road for me since I can't hardly use any medication vaginally but hopefully this will work for everybody and me. Also I am getting help now for the vaginimus now. I may have to get Botox shots down there but thats another chapter. X(

I hope this works for somebody out there. This is a nightmarish infection that needs more studying.

I have been dealing with BV for 9 years! A huge embarrassment at work....I had to change jobs several times because people can be cruel. Anyway...I have been using plain greek yogurt for 3 days. I bought a medicine dropper and insert yogurt 3-4 times a day. I researched that low lactobacillus is associated with BV and growth of pathogenic bacteria. The doctors are not helpful....what a waste of money. Flagyl and metrogel don't help at all. I used Greek Gods plain yogurt. I'm so damn happy!!!! :-)

Apple Cider Vinegar Variations

I have been suffering from BV for almost 10 long years. Ladies I know what you have all been going through. It has completely ruined my personal Life!

I have tried everything under the sun including numerous antibiotics, that always seemed to make it work. With doctors lack of knowledge makes it that much harder. I have been a repeat BV forum hoping the next time I'm on someone will have found something new. Low and behold, I have combined a couple things, the only things I haven't tried just to overload it and wipe it out. I think I finally have!!

Ok... So Before I went to work I took a tampon saturated it about 20 drops of Tea Tree Oil. I did not use an oil base, just the tea tree. (has a cooling effect for a while, that is normal) I kept it in for about 4 hours and took it out. That night when I got home I inserted a 500mg Vitamin C before I went to bed. I woke up and douched with natural Apple Cider Vinegar.

It has been 3 days and absolutely nothing! No smell, no discharge, no gunk. I am so relieved, I will be using this method once a week just to maintain. I am deathly afraid of it coming back so I am taking no chances.

I know how frustrating and depressing this condition is. I really hope this works you ladies, again, I have been suffering from BV for about 10 years. This is truly a miracle!!!! Let me know how this works out for you, I hope to hear many success stories!

Multiple Remedies

BV cure for me:

1. Stop drinking coffee. For some reason, this has always started problems when I drink coffee for a few months, then bam! I stop drinking coffee (along with a few other things, and no BV for years). Why I never learn and eventually go back to drinking it, I'll never know.

2. Good quality, refrigerated probiotics. The room-temp probiotics on the shelves never did anything for me. You must get the expensive refrigerated (fem, vag, etc.) stuff (over $20). Locally, I go to "the vitamin shoppe" to get mine.

3. vitamin C. also try vitamin D, zinc, and folic acid. These are cheap and you should prob take them anyway. I also hear Iron, but don't know... I am often low on Iron on my blood tests, so makes sense. Take Iron with Iodine to prevent constipation. Try to cut sugar and carbs too.

4. Important event? buy "RePHresh" over the counter. No smell! But it will come back in a day or two. I hear boric acid is similar temporary effect. Just helps with PH.

5. Douching with hydrogen peroxide may work well if you catch it right away, it had for me, but if it is gone too far, or re-occurs, it won't work.

6. In regards to cleaning....The smell literally didn't wash out of me undies with reg detergent... get a natural detergent, like 7th generation, works much better. I also like to clean my bathroom with "bac-out". You can try putting a few drops of tea tree oil in your tub too, if you like to take baths like I do.

Editor's Choice

OH YA"LL! I suffered with it for years! I think it's related to having a candida override in your body. I itched and went to several top rated gynecologist in The Dallas area who all found NOTHING wrong.Top rated Dermatologist found nothing wrong. Even tho I had had std's and BV! I found the Bacteria thing in a magazine, which made my obgyn angry, but I insisted he test me and sure enough, I was positive. YOU would think he could have smelled it, right? The test was just a scrape and scratch & sniff. FRUSTRATing, our medical profession in the USA!!!

Use tampons and buy cottonelle wipes! Keeping the blood away will help. Also I keep the hair region very short. Just keep scissors for this purpose, and clean them with alcohol wipes every time.

NEVER re-use your towels!! I actually feel better when I dry off with the hair dryer anyway.

Take vitamins. Mostly time release C. The brand doesn't matter. You do need the sustained (or time) release, tho and I thought with rose hips helped.

I take the cheap garlic supplements in gel capsules from wally world, but I take 3 or 4 instead of one and twice a day!

I take turmeric twice a day (wally world) and neem seed also. I had to get the neem capsules at Family nutrition, but I think they might be good.

Stop eating cheese and dairy for a while ( I mean a few months), and when you do start back, keep it to just a small amount and NOT every day. Avoid sugar! And for sure, no artificial sweeteners! Stop consuming alcohol (that's a sugar) except I think red wine is not so bad, there's a balance somehow in that.

Omygosh NO BEER. Believe me I know this from experience.

And NO BREAD!!! This is pretty hard, cuz it means no subway unless you get a salad. And NO pizza, till you get better. Then only once a month.

I am 60 now, and it's over. Mainly because of no sex and no menstral cycle. Been over about 10 years now. Maybe only 5 yrs idk, Just soooo relieved.

I wore a panty liner daily. I feel the wicking away thing helps greatly. I still wear a panty liner daily!

Take pro biotics! I had a whitish tongue for years.

it's almost pink now, but I have to take the probiotic every day. I also had to do a diet yeast cleanse. Lost 15 lbs, because the first few days are clear liquids only. Then only one green veggie. Later I made myself stir fry with a lot of fresh ginger, garlic, and onions. No coffee (thats a bummer, but caffeine WILL help any yeasts bond to your system.) Get rid of any dark colored fillings. I had them replaced as they needed it, but if you can afford, get them out! And do not eat tuna or salmon At least for a while. Mercury is a bonding agent for Yeast!

Wash off all fruits and veggies and I even wash the "pre washed" bagged salad. Do not put anything in your mouth that you think might not be washed off.

Avoid antibiotics, unless you just cannot get well.

If you are on antibiotics. Take probiotics in-between the drugs. Like a few hours after your meds. To put back the Good bacteria that gets destroyed! Drs will tell you this now, but they told me it was hogwash in the 70's and 80's. I did it anyway (most the time), glad I did!

If your tummy is rumbly or you have gas, you better get on my program!

Then take the probiotics (lactobicillious, acidophiulus, or both) They should come in a dark glass bottle. Best if you can find a health store that keeps the LIVE cultures in the fridge. Keep yours in the fridge, even if you buy some that was on the shelf. Lately I take Probiotic 10 which I found at vitamin world. It was not refrigerated, but I store it in my frige.

Work out!!!! I love Zumba (mainly becuz I have the best trainer on the planet, She is highly motivated and it's contagious) while you are dancing there will be little or no symptoms, Or at least that's a great mind trick. You have got to sweat! So get moving!!!

Avoid chocolate, I know! But at least for a while.

Treat this as a body invasion! It is! Do a cleanse of some type. Starve the thing to death!

Cilantro is a natural cleansing herb and if you can eat some every day, it'll sure help your body regain it's immunities. It will also keep arthritis away!

If you can afford it, get a vitamix. Or at least a nutribullet.Even if all you use it for is green grapes with a little fresh parsley and some ice, you will be getting amazing cleansing.

If you have a sinus/allergy problem, do use a saline rinse, but I have been able to quit that, by using an alcohol wipe in each nose cavity twice a day, then a swab with a qtip of tea tree oil in each side. Amazing, no drip or odors. But I have to do that every day. I guess we breathe in all kinds of stuff. TTO is a natural antiseptic! You can get that at wally world, too. Get the pharmaceudical grade.

I had to stop eating corn. Wait till you read the labels of all the stuff you eat. Most of it has corn oil. I guess that is a cheap filler. I developed an allergy to corn, so no pop corn or cornbread (this tough here in the south). I stopped eating catsup and bottled pasta sauce, and bottled salad dressing. Instead, increase your olive oil and coconut oils.

I try to only drink bottled spring water. All kinds of parasites live in your faucet.

Keep the faith!

Another woman's veggie lifestyle method of beating BV: The problem is that the American diet is way too acidic, because it is grain based. The only food that actually lowers your pH is vegetables, and our diet is sadly lacking in them. But one thing I found out all by myself is that drinking baking soda water is also very effective at lowering your pH.

So what I did was I started drinking a glass of baking soda water first thing when I got up, and right before I go to bed at night. Now you have to do this carefully. You only want to drink baking soda water (8 oz of water with 1/2 a tsp of baking soda) on an empty stomach. This is very important. If you drink baking soda water with food in your stomach, it interferes with your digestion, and this is very harmful and can cause other problems; so only drink it an hour before you eat something, or 4 hours after -- longer if it is a really big meal.

But I did this religiously for a month and had no BV. But that still didn't fix my diet. So I had to research online the low acid diet. Now I don't mean you have to become a vegan, far from it. Some vegan diets are too grain based. Yes, even whole grains are acidic; it doesn't matter how healthy they make it sound. Yes all grains, wheat, rice, oats, all grains. Again I don't mean you have to give them up completely, just make sure you eat more vegetables than you do an acidic food like grains, sugars (including fruit) and meat and dairy.

I just wanted to add in regard to BV, I had it a couple of years ago and it was recurrent no matter what my Dr. gave me. Finally, I ask a friend of mines who is well versed with natural cures what I should do and she simply said, "2tbsp of natural aloe vera to 8oz of unsweetened cranberry juice. Not only does it get rid of the BV, I have also found that it works well with balder infections. Pray this helps someone as it did me.
