I have High Blood Pressure and was taking Atenolol/Chlorthalidone (100-25mg Tab) for some time now. What got me started on ACV was that my doctor told me that my cholesterol numbers were high and that medication would be the key. I refused because I did not need another drug in my system. I got down to the last of the HBP pills and had to wait for more funds at that time to get more. I panicked but prayed about my situation. I had pounding headaches from no longer being on the meds. ACV (with the 'Mother') was put in my path because of the cholesterol issue so I began taking 2 tbsps with a full glass of water twice a day (began 12-09-16 day one). I then noticed that the headaches subsided over night. I was led to go on the web to research about HBP and found Earth Clinic. I found it positive and uplifting and there were people like myself who wanted to 'heal thyself'. I am now on day two of the regimen taking ACV 2tbsp with a full glass of water (I use a straw and it tastes ok) 3x per day (upon rising after prayer, midday and before I go to sleep). I meditate and walk around 1 hour per day; then I do light yoga daily. Everything positive and healing I focus on and do. My doctor's appointment is in January and I will see what happens. In the meantime, I will continue the regimen, find a reliable BP machine to keep up my readings and pray as well. I am also keeping a tally of my regimen to share in the future with all here.

I read one of the reader's posts (thank the reader) and it talked about beta blockers. The meds I was taking has a beta blocker in it and it blocks calcium from being absorbed in the body ( we need calcium! ). The Chlorthalidone makes you potty and you flush out Potassium (we need that too! ). These drugs are like 2 edge swords sort to speak; they are supposed to help you but hinder you down the road. I am so glad I have the gumption to do research and not buy into the pharmaceutical companies hype. One billion dollars is earned in that industry and people are getting sicker than ever. Enough of the soapbox for now. I will keep the community updated and thank you all. Be Blessed!

Well I have to say ACV is the way to go to lower your HBP...It's the best thing ever! I got diagnose with Bp it was up setting for me. I had went for my annual check up tho my blood results were excellent my Dr. didn't understand how I got Hbp my reading was 165/100 now its 110/73 by just drinking Acv it's AMAZING it really works.. I'm not on any medication I go natural it's the best way to go tho you have to get use to the taste. You have to be consistent with it this is my secret. I drink it every morning b4 anything with 2Tablespoon of Acv, half a lemon w/ a 8oz warm water. I don't eat or drink anything after drinking it, So it can hit the bloodstream after an half an hour I do... Listen this really works and it's the best thing...You have to be consistent with it in order to see results..Trust me it works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And for all of you wondering - here is the SCIENCE behind why vingear (acetic acid) works on lowering BP for SOME but not ALL people - published from John Hopkins 2015.

It's because... wait for it... we have cells that "smell" acetic acid and activate/deactivate receptors that influence blood pressure in the gut, kidney and heart. These special cells are actually also found in your nose!!

Here is the article.

This is fascinating science and it shows why folk cures like ACV work. And by the way, it doesn't HAVE to be Apple, any vinegar (acetic acid) works... through the smell sniffers in your GUT and the bacteria down there... so, moral of the story?

When a natural cure works, there's always a reason/science behind it - just not always understood by us. AND sometimes its just a better way to cure yourself because its free, and mostly side effect free...and that's why doctors and big pharma suppress this type of information. I bet you they will be trying to target a drug to do what vinegar does so well. And charging an arm n leg too.

I would say "ACV" is amazing. I was always in this thought that I ve "White Coat Syndrum" but it was not the reality so I was dignose with HBP(reading 160/100) in May. I want to try some natural remedies instead going on medication as I am taking medication for high cholesterol. I found this wonderful site of natrual remedies. I started taking ACV on Aug. 14 (this day I had Cardiac stress test and my BP was 165/110) within 4 days my BP is down to 133/88. Really I am surprised to see the results THanks to "Earthclinic"

How I take ACV? After reading almost every page on this topic, I choose take it like this:

3 tbls(0. 8 oz) of ACV and 1 tbls of Honey mix in
8-10 oz of warm water. I take it in the morning and bed time.

That s IT

My friend had been on blood pressure medicines and was unsure of what to do when her doctor went out of town and she couldn't consult him for continuation of the dosage.

I suggested that she take a tablespoon of ACV in water or fruit juice once a day till the doc was back and she could consult him again.

2 weeks later, the doc was back and after testing her told her she needn't go back to the medication again:)

When the mother of a 20-year old told me he's been having IBS ever since he was a child and that they've tried everything including holistic treatments, we decided to try the ACV. Same dosage of 1 tablespoon with water or fruit juice once a day. By the end of the first bottle his IBS was gone. It hasn't come back in the 5 years since then:)

Apple cidar vinegar is a miracle worker for me...since I have been using it for about 3-4 months now alot of things have drastically changed.

Let me remind you all that I have had severe high blood pressure since the age of 18 and today at 49 my pressure is normal and for 4 months I am meds free! Although my doc cant figure out how my pressure is normal and I havent filled my prescription in months.

Secondly, I deal with fibroids which makes my stomach bulge but the apple cider v has decreased the blood flow tremendously during periods. Although I am finding ways to shrink fibroids the ACV is shrinking my body weight like crazy! I took birthday pics and when I looked at myself I was greakin shocked! I looked damn goood and like 10 pounds lighter w no photo editing. Every morning I use 1 tablespoon a squeeze of lemon in 8oz of water. Then before dinner same routine. This works for me...

But I warn you DO NOT self medicate with just ACV if you have serious health issues.

For me I wanted another alternative to wean me off bp medication and for me it worked. 4 months later and bp is still normal as I take it every morn. ACV is my miracle worker and I will use it til im old & gray.

Having a family history of early death from heart disease and stroke, I was concerned when I began to develop high blood pressure. Just two nights ago, my concern turned to alarm when my systolic blood pressure readings were anywhere from 164 to 192! I came to this site and began reading. I've never liked the taste of apple cider vinegar, but I took 2 tablespoons that night. Later I took my BP and the reading was still the same.

The next morning, I started again with 2 TBS and about 1/4 tsp of baking soda to help neutralize the taste. Later that afternoon, another 2 TBS. That evening I took my blood pressure and it was down to 122/83. This morning, the third day, I measured again, and it's now down to 117/82!

To say I'm grateful would be an understatement. I'm going to continue this treatment every day from here on out.

My diet has been relatively healthy, and I'm thin for my age, but I'm going to work on eating more vegetables and fruit, and exercise more. But the ACV has been the real game changer. Give it a "shot" -- a shot of apple cider vinegar!

I have had great success also---in only 3 days -- using apple cider vinegar for high blood pressure.

I had been feeling very tired , weak and had a headache for several days. Actually, months! I usually take my blood pressure often because my mother and sister had high blood pressure controlled very poorly by medicine. I've been borderline for years. I finally got up the nerve to take it and was shocked to see it was 196/115. I never go to the doctor, but could see this was serious. It was on Thursday. I decided to try acv.

I drank 1 tbls with the juice of a lime in about a half cup of water. I did this 2 times on Thursday, but pressure still stayed above 190/105. I took the vinegar once yeasterday morning , did not take my pressure but still felt bad. This morning I took a dose, and an hour later took my pressure. I noticed I felt better. Pressure is 145/90. I am so happy. I will take my pressure daily now and continue drinking the Apple Cider Vinegar daily. I hope to see these numbers continue to drop to normal.

Thanks Earth Clinic!

2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar (ACV) mixed in a 12 oz glass of water reduces my blood pressure (BP) in about 30-40 minutes. I have a home BP monitor, ACV consistently reduces my systolic by 10-20 points and diastolic 10-15 points.

I'm responding to the acv. I had the same success with my blood pressure. Someone said that their pressure went down within 45 mins. of taking the acv. I figured it was worth a shot, it's only acv. It went down in that time frame. I feel wonderful joint pain and knee pain even went away. It's been three years now. Thanks for sharing your hb pressure info. Thanks everyone. Thank you Earth Clinic.

Seems like you might want to reverse that--see if you can continue the ACV and reduce or eliminate the lisinopril. ACV is certainly cheaper, less likely to cause serious long-term side effects, and has other nutritional benefits.

I respectfully disagree. Actually, I couldn't disagree more.

Years ago, when I read about using ACV for my high blood pressure, I had some 'regular old' ACV in my cupboard, so I used it and it worked well.

After reading many testimonials here on EC (similar to yours, stating that using organic ACV vs. non-organic was "essential"), I bought and used the organic variety and it 'essentially' did nothing. My blood pressure was back up, full throttle.

When I returned to the regular old ACV, my blood pressure went back down again, and I've stayed with it ever since.

I have heard of using apple cider vinegar (ACV) before but never tried it. Unfortunately I ran out of medicine and couldn't get a refill until I saw Dr. My Bp has been rising over last few weeks. On yesterday it was 160/100. I couldn't sleep I thought I might die. I prayed about natural remedies went online and saw this immediately went to get ACV.

This morning it was 157/96. At 5 144/90 I have taken apple cider vinegar twice today and now 137/78. This is lowest in 2 weeks. I am still going to Dr. But I thank GOD. I will continue my ACV.

You may not see immediate results. I have been taking ACV for about two months and recently my doctor decreased my blood pressure medication by 1/2. My blood pressure has been too low! I suggest you give it a try! I mix raw unfiltered honey and cayenne pepper.

Dear Mehnaaz,

Your father is blessed to have you researching and studying on his behalf!

I think your suggestion for him of Apple Cider Vinegar and baking soda is a good one. This has helped people with cholesterol and with high blood pressure. I am not aware of this being contraindicated with any medications, but everyone is different so he ought to just watch how he feels. It might be best to start with less and then try more if less agrees with him. (Less being 1 Tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar with 1/8th teaspoon of sodium bicarbonate in a glass of water. More being 2 Tablespoons of vinegar and 1/4 teaspoon sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) in a glass of water.)

Cayenne pepper is also helpful to many for high cholesterol and high blood pressure. I have a friend who had high blood pressure for years. She did not do anything to treat it but did start to take cayenne pepper. Now her blood pressure is normal.

But again, everyone is different. Hopefully he will have success with what he tries first and that will encourage him to continue trying natural remedies.

Let us know how it goes for him!

I think it is entirely possible that plain old ACV would work quicker, in some cases. Organic ACV is whole food and when the body gets a hold of it, it's going to use it where it needs it most and that's not always going to coincide with what a person THINKS is needed most.

I would say that if organic ACV doesn't work for you, take the regular, by all means, but ALSO work in some doses of the organic every once in a while so the body can use it as IT chooses.

Natural medicine is a conversation with the body. Certainly, it is important to address the concerns of the individual to give them peace of mind, but the body doesn't speak your language. You have to be aware of what it is and is NOT doing with what you give it. If organic ACV doesn't lower your blood pressure then that's a sign that the body has more critical uses for it. You can't ignore the mind of the individual - you must provide it with some relief - but you also can't ignore what the body tells you.

Organic ACV is MUCH more than merely ACV. It's a conscious living organism that is going to have a conscious and intimate conversation with your body - a conversation to which you will not be a party.

This is good news because anyone who fails to get the result they want from organic ACV can use regular ACV to get the peace of mind they need because that peace of mind will go a LONG way to helping them get better.

One possibility as to why organic doesn't always work might be anxiety. If one is anxious ABOUT the discovery that one has high blood pressure, it's entirely possible that wrangling the adrenaline produced by the anxiety is of a higher priority and that the organic ACV has something the body can use to deal with that.

At any rate, there is ZERO need to fight about it. Use what gives you peace of mind. If it works one way for some and the other way for others, so what? Use what works. Use what makes you feel better. Personally, I just took a dose of ascorbic acid (vitamin C) and feel MUCh better.

For those interested in that, I use 1 tsp of ascorbic acid and 1/4 tsp of backing soda in a green Perrier bottle with the cap from an organic ACV bottle (because the Perrier cap was metal). I then fill it with filtered water, shake it up, drink about half, put the cap on and set it by the sink. From that point, I take a couple swallows periodically throughout the day. I hadn't been doing that lately, which is why I wasn't feeling good. That mixture comes out to about 5 grams of vitamin C. You could do the same with your ACV mixtures.

And no, I don't drink Perrier water as a rule, I bought it for the bottle. I needed a glass bottle, Perrier is yummy, so I bought myself a little 4-pack and voilà! Some yummy water and four pretty glass bottles.

I started taking ACV 2 tbsp in the mid morning, after I eat. I mix it with a bit of water. I like vinegar, so it isn't too bad for me to get it down.

My blood pressure readings have gone down approx 10-15 points systolic and about 10-12 points diastolic, doing absolutely nothing but drinking my ACV. I plan to reduce my medication at my next doc visit. ACV and this website are MIRACLES!

I was on Atenolol for less than 3 months..My hands and feet were freezing..My PCP told me to go off it as my dose was low at 25 mgs...My heart would beat a bit erratically but I'd be Ok..I went off and my heart went haywire 160 beats per minute. Ventricular tachycardia...

I had to be wheelchaired into a hospital in Boston for a 2 1/2 hour cardiac ablation with ZERO pain medication..

Things worked out but my feet and hands took 10 years to clear up/BTW the reason I was on Atenolol was because a doctor talked me into going on it because MY FATHER had heart issues at my age..I never once registered High Blood Pressure..Nice huh?? How dumb was I???

Just yesterday (1/19/10) I discovered your site. I have been experiencing high blood pressure in recent weeks. I read about the organic apple cider vinegar with mother being able to control HBP. I have some that was in the cabinet for salad dressing use. I took 2 TBSP at about 3 PM and by 4 PM I checked my pressure and it was 123/71!!! I was elated. I checked again after dinner and it was 121/73. I took 2 more TBSP just before bedtime and slept better than I have in months. When I woke I took the BP and it was 119/70!! I'm a true believer and am on the ACV program for good. BP has been in the 120s/70s all day today too. Thank You Earth Clinic for all the valuable info.

Apple Cider vinegar and High Blood Pressure - YEA!!! Organic Apple Cider Vinegar works like a charm! One Tablespoon in eight ounces of water, three times a day. Within one day my blood pressure was down fifteen points. In three days it was down by thirty points. I'm in my mid 50's, meditate daily, I'm slender, very athletic, don't drink, don't smoke, no sugar, no caffeine, little salt (mineral sea salt only), no processed foods, all as organic and close to original as possible. Some fish, some meat, some dairy. Am taking fresh garlic, CoQ10, Calcium, Magnesium and Potassium, Omega 3's fish oil, Vit. C, E, B's, etc. Doc said I shouldn't have HBP, but went on to prescribe my first and only Rx. (I did have serious stress for the last few years.) I decided to go the natural/home remedy route first. I found STRENUOUS aerobic exercise, daily, to be the only thing to reliably make a difference, but it was exhausting. (Simple walking, gardening or cycling wasn't enough...) I found Earth Clinic's ACV reviews and gave it a try. WOW! Thank you! My guess is, that I wasn't producing enough stomach acid to process the nutrients I was taking in, properly. (Stress and adrenaline will shut down digestion, and digestive juices. This could also just be a natural aging affect or an inherited trait, too.) Anyway, I think the ACV added just enough acid to digest my food properly and especially make use of magnesium/calcium and potassium.(The holy triumvirate of blood pressure.) This is my guess... Thank you all for posting your reviews. They were most helpful. And thank you Earth Clinic! Kind regards, Michele

Hi, Penny!

I have been on BP medicine for about 5 years having switched from Lisinopril. I did not have chest pains, yet I do have headaches from letting it go. I have changed my diet and eating foods rich in potassium (google "potassium rich foods"), cutting down sodium by using less salt and reading labels when I shop.

Just do the ACV with the mother, 2 tbsp in 8 oz glass of water 1 time a day and see how it goes. Do not get off the drugs as of yet, just monitor your pressure. Take a calcium and magnesium combo. I may have to take the BP meds a bit longer until I bring my weight down and the headaches subside (I will see). I still do the ACV with the mother 3 times per day with water and add a tsp of Agave (a natural sweetener, google "agave"). I also do yoga and meditation as well as exercise.

Be sure to eat better and even if you walk daily for 30 minutes that will get you started. Let me know how you do and thanks for writing to me. :)

I agree with the idea of using raw, unfiltered vinegar. Anyone who believes that they can get good results with filtered, and bad results with unfiltered is either a liar or a rare exception.

I started out using the typical store vinegar in the jug. It constipated me so bad that I had blood in the stool. And I believe it is because that vinegar "cleans" your intestinal walls to the point of making it VERY difficult to pass anything through. This even sounds dangerous to me.

But since I began using the good stuff, I haven't had this problem. Now I will admit something that might get me flamed by certain vinegar advocates.

I was normally using the new Heinz raw vinegar that Walmart began carrying. And with good results. But I had heard of Braggs many times. I later realized that the Amish store down the road carries the Braggs. So I bought a bottle of that just to keep on hand. I decided to begin using that. And it seems like only a couple days after that I began feeling weird. Turns out my blood pressure was up. Now is this a coincidence? I have no idea. But I at least know the Heinz stuff works. And it even prevented an allergy infection my 6 yr old was trying to get.

@Joe - I had the exact same experience.

Initially, I used regular old 'H' brand ACV with good results. After reading many posts here on EC, most of which scoffed at the notion of using H brand vs. B's (with the mother), I switched to the B's brand expecting greater efficacy.

It turned out that the opposite was true. When I switched to B's, my blood pressure shot back up. I returned to using the H brand and never looked back.
